On the algebraic K-theory of 3-manifold groups

We provide descriptions of the Whitehead groups, and the algebraic $K$-theory groups, of the fundamental group of a connected, oriented, closed $3$-manifold in terms of Whitehead groups of their finite subgroups and certain Nil-groups. The main tools we use are: the K-theoretic Farrell-Jones isomorphism conjecture, the construction of models for the universal space for the family of virtually cyclic subgroups in 3-manifold groups, and both the prime and JSJ-decompositions together with the well-known geometrization theorem.

Cut and paste invariants of manifolds via algebraic K-theory

Recent work of Jonathan Campbell and Inna Zakharevich has focused on building machinery for studying scissors congruence problems via algebraic $K$-theory, and applying these tools to studying the Grothendieck ring of varieties. In this paper we give a new application of their framework: we construct a $K$-space that recovers the classical $\mathrm{SK}$ ("schneiden und kleben," German for "cut and paste") groups for manifolds on $π_0$, and we construct a derived version of the Euler characteristic.

Algebraic structures of $F$-manifolds via pre-Lie algebras

We relate the operad FMan controlling the algebraic structure on the tangent sheaf of an $F$-manifold (weak Frobenius manifold) defined by Hertling and Manin to the operad PreLie of pre-Lie algebras: for the filtration of PreLie by powers of the ideal generated by the Lie bracket, the associated graded object is FMan.

An algebraic index theorem for Poisson manifolds

The formality theorem for Hochschild chains of the algebra of functions on a smooth manifold gives us a version of the trace density map from the zeroth Hochschild homology of a deformation quantization algebra to the zeroth Poisson homology. We propose a version of the algebraic index theorem for a Poisson manifold which is based on this trace density map.

Foliated manifolds, algebraic K-theory, and a secondary invariant

We introduce a $\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{Z}$-valued invariant of a foliated manifold with a stable framing and with a partially flat vector bundle. This invariant can be expressed in terms of integration in differential $K$-theory, or alternatively, in terms of $η$-invariants of Dirac operators and local correction terms. Initially, the construction of the element in $\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{Z}$ involves additional choices. An algebraic approach to the algebraic Weinstein conjecture

How does one measure the failure of Hochschild homology to commute with colimits? Here I relate this question to a major open problem about dynamics in contact manifolds -- the assertion that Reeb orbits exist and are detected by symplectic homology. More precisely, I show that for polarizably Weinstein fillable contact manifolds, said property is equivalent to the failure of Hochschild homology to commute with certain colimits of representation categories of tree quivers. So as to be intelligible to algebraists, I try to include or black-box as much of the geometric background as possible.

Multisymplectic 3-forms on 7-dimensional manifolds

The goal of the paper is to give characterization of closed connected manifolds which admit a global multisympletic 3-form of some algebraic type. A generic type of such 3-form is equivalent to a G2-structure. This is the most interesting case and was solved in [Gr]. Some other algebraic types were solved quite recently. In this paper we give characterization in the remaining cases.

Equivariant Algebraic Index Theorem

We prove a Γ-equivariant version of the algebraic index theorem, where Γ is a discrete group of automorphisms of a formal deformation of a symplectic manifold. The particular cases of this result are the algebraic version of the transversal index theorem related to the theorem of A. Connes and H. Moscovici for hypoelliptic operators and the index theorem for the extension of the algebra of pseudodifferential operators by a group of diffeomorphisms of the underlying manifold due to A. Savin, B. Sternin, E. Schrohe and D. Perrot.
