We argue that extensions of the SM with a warped extra dimension, together with a new $\mathbb{Z}_2$-odd scalar singlet, provide a natural explanation not only for the hierarchy problem but also for the nature of fermion bulk masses and the observed dark matter relic abundance. In particular, the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the new scalar particle, which is required to naturally obtain fermion bulk masses through Yukawa-like interactions, can be the leading portal to any fermion propagating into the bulk of the extra dimension and playing the role of dark matter. Moreover, such scalar excitations will necessarily mix with the Higgs boson, leading to modifications of the Higgs couplings and branching ratios, and allowing the Higgs to mediate the coannihilation of the fermionic dark matter. We study these effects and explore the viability of fermionic dark matter in the presence of these new heavy scalar mediators both in the usual freeze-out scenario and in the case where the freeze-out happens during an early period of matter domination.
We show that fermionic dark matter (DM) which communicates with the Standard Model (SM) via the Higgs portal is a viable scenario, even if a SM-like Higgs is found at around 125 GeV. Using effective field theory we show that for DM with a mass in the range from about 60 GeV to 2 TeV the Higgs portal needs to be parity violating in order to be in agreement with direct detection searches. For parity conserving interactions we identify two distinct options that remain viable: a resonant Higgs portal, and an indirect Higgs portal. We illustrate both possibilities using a simple renormalizable toy …
The diphoton excess around 750 GeV observed by ATLAS and CMS can be interpreted as coming from a massive spin-2 excitation. We explore this possibility in the context of warped five-dimensional models with the Standard Model (SM) fields propagating in the bulk of the extra dimension. The 750 GeV resonance is identified with the first Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitation of the five-dimensional graviton that is parametrically lighter than KK resonances of SM fields. Our set-up makes it possible to realize non-universal couplings of the spin-2 resonance to matter, and thus to explain non-observation of …
We study the sensitivity of future electron-positron colliders to UV completions of the fermionic Higgs portal operator $H^\dagger H \bar χχ$. Measurements of precision electroweak $S$ and $T$ parameters and the $e^+e^- \to Zh$ cross section at the CEPC, FCC-ee, and ILC are considered. The scalar completion of the fermionic Higgs portal is closely related to the scalar Higgs portal, and we summarize existing results. We devote the bulk of our analysis to a singlet-doublet fermion completion. Assuming the doublet is sufficiently heavy, we construct the effective field theory (EFT) at dimension-…
We introduce a new class of renormalisable models, consisting of a dark $SU(2)_D$ gauge sector connected to the Standard Model (SM) through a Vector-Like (VL) fermion mediator, not requiring a Higgs portal, in which a massive vector boson is the Dark Matter (DM) candidate. These models are labelled Fermion Portal Vector Dark Matter (FPVDM). Multiple realisations are possible, depending on the properties of the VL partner and of the scalar potential. One example is discussed in detail. FPVDM models have a large number of applications in collider and non-collider experiments, depending on the me…
We investigate catalysis of electroweak baryogenesis by fermionic Higgs portal dark matter using a two Higgs doublet model augmented by vector-like fermions. The lightest neutral fermion mass eigenstate provides a viable dark matter candidate in the presence of a stabilizing symmetry Z_2 or gauged U(1)_D symmetry. Allowing for a non-vanishing CP-violating phase in the lowest-dimension Higgs portal dark matter interactions allows generation of the observed dark matter relic density while evading direct detection bounds. The same phase provides a source for electroweak baryogenesis. We show that…
We explore the possibility that the discrepancy in the observed anomalous magnetic moment of the muon $Δa _μ$ and the predicted relic abundance of Dark Matter by Planck data, can be explained in a lepto-philic 2-HDM augmented by a real SM singlet scalar of mass $\sim$ 10-80 GeV. We constrain the model from the observed Higgs Decay width at LHC, LEP searches for low mass exotic scalars and anomalous magnetic moment of an electron $Δa_e$. This constrained light singlet scalar serves as a portal for the fermionic Dark Matter, which contributes to the required relic density of the universe. A larg…
We investigate a beyond standard model (SM) portal scenario for dark matter (DM) particle with leptoquark being the mediator field. Leptoquark, a colored particle having both baryon and lepton number, allows the DM to interact with the SM fields via renormalizable interaction. By focusing on a vector leptoquark portal with Majorana fermion DM candidate, we find the only unknown coupling in the model is sensitive to all three main features of a DM model namely, relic density, direct detection as well as indirect detection, while being consistent with collider data. We explore the parameter spac…
We revisit the simplest model of Higgs portal fermionic dark matter. The dark matter in this scenario is thermally produced in the early universe due to the interactions with the Higgs boson which is described by a non-renormalisable dimension-5 operator. The dark matter-Higgs scattering amplitude grows as $\propto \sqrt{s}$, signalling a breakdown of the effective description of the Higgs-dark matter interactions at large enough (compared to the mass scale $Λ$ of the dimention-5 operator) energies. Therefore, in order to reliably compute Higgs-dark matter scattering cross sections, we employ …
We consider fermionic (Dirac or Majorana) cold thermal relic dark-matter coupling to standard-model particles through the effective dimension-5 Higgs portal operators $Λ^{-1} \ \mathcal{O}_{\text{DM}} \cdot H^\dagger H$, where $\mathcal{O}_{\text{DM}}$ is an admixture of scalar $\barχχ$ and pseudoscalar $\barχiγ_5 χ$ DM operators. Utilizing the relic abundance requirement to fix the couplings, we consider direct detection and invisible Higgs width constraints, and map out the remaining allowed parameter space of dark-matter mass and the admixture of scalar and pseudoscalar couplings. We emphas…
We propose a renormalizable model of a fermionic dark matter by introducing a gauge singlet Dirac fermion and a real singlet scalar. The bridges between the singlet sector and the standard model sector are only the singlet scalar interaction terms with the standard model Higgs field. The singlet fermion couples to the standard model particles through the mixing between the standard model Higgs and singlet scalar and is naturally a weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP). The measured relic abundance can be explained by the singlet fermionic dark matter as the WIMP within this model. Collide…
A classically scale-invariant scalar singlet can be a MeV-scale dark matter, with a feeble Higgs portal coupling at $\mathcal{O}(10^{-10})$. Besides, an $\mathcal{O}(0.1)$ self-interaction coupling could further serve to alleviate the small-scale problems in the Universe. We show that, such a dark matter candidate can naturally arise in the warped extra dimension, with the huge span of parameter space predicted well within $\mathcal{O}(1)$ fundamental parameters.
Standard model (SM) spin-zero singlets are constrained through their di-Bosonic decay channels via an effective coupling induced by a vector-like quark (VLQ) loop at the LHC for $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. These spin-zero resonances are then considered as portals for scalar, vector or fermionic dark matter particle interactions with SM gauge bosons. We find that the model is validated with respect to the observations from LHC data and from cosmology, indirect and direct detection experiments for an appreciable range of scalar, vector and fermionic DM masses greater than 300 GeV and VLQ masses $\ge$ 4…
The fermionic Z-portal dark matter model suffers from severe constraints from direct detection experiments. However, a narrow parameter space around the Z-funnel region is beyond the reach due to the resonance annihilation. In this paper, we provide an intriguing collider prospect for probing the Z-funnel dark matter mass range at the future lepton colliders including the beam polarization feature. We have done a comprehensive analysis for mono-photon signal at the colliders for such a dark matter. A realistic estimation for the 90% C.L. constraints with the systematic beam uncertainties has a…

We review predictions and constraints for nuclear recoil signals from Higgs portal dark matter under the assumption of standard thermal creation from freeze-out. Thermally created scalar and vector Higgs portal dark matter masses are constrained to be in the resonance region near half the Higgs mass or above several TeV. The resonance region for these models will be tested by XENONnT and LZ. The full mass range up to the unitarity limit can be tested by DarkSide-20k and DARWIN. Fermionic Higgs portal dark matter with a pure CP odd coupling is constrained by the Higgs decay width, but has stron…
We investigate an inflationary model involving a gauge singlet scalar and fermionic dark matter. The mixing between the singlet scalar and the Higgs boson provides a portal to dark matter. The inflaton could either be the Higgs boson or the singlet scalar, and slow roll inflation is realized via its non-minimal coupling to gravity. In this setup, the effective scalar potential is stabilized by the mixing between two scalars and coupling with dark matter. We study constraints from collider searches, relic density and direct detection, and find that dark matter mass should be around half the mas…
Warm dark matter (WDM) of order keV mass may be able to resolve the disagreement between structure formation in cold dark matter simulations and observations. The detailed properties of WDM will depend upon its energy distribution, in particular how it deviates from the thermal distribution usually assumed in WDM simulations. Here we focus on WDM production via the Ultra-Violet (UV) freeze-in mechanism, for the case of fermionic Higgs portal dark matter $ψ$ produced via the portal interaction $\barψψH^{\dagger}H/Λ$. We introduce a new method to simplify the computation of the non-thermal energ…
Motivated by the Galactic Center gamma-ray excess in the Fermi-LAT data, we study the signatures of a class of tau portal dark matter (DM) models where DM particles preferentially couple to tau leptons at the LHC. We consider the constraints from the DM direct detection and investigate the sensitivity of the LHC to di-tau plus missing energy signatures. We find that the LHC with a high luminosity of 3000 fb$^{-1}$ can test the tau portal DM models with fermionic mediators in the mass range of $120\sim450$ GeV.
Higgs-portal effective field theories are widely used as benchmarks in order to interpret collider and astroparticle searches for dark matter (DM) particles. To assess the validity of these effective models, it is important to confront them to concrete realizations that are complete in the ultraviolet regime. In this paper, we compare effective Higgs-portal models with scalar, fermionic and vector DM with a series of increasingly complex realistic models, taking into account all existing constraints from collider and astroparticle physics. These complete realizations include the inert doublet …
We consider a simple extension of the standard model with a singlet fermionic dark matter. Its thermal relic density can be easily accommodated by a real singlet scalar messenger that mixes with the standard model Higgs boson. The model can change significantly the Higgs signals at the LHC via sizable invisible decays of two Higgs-like scalar bosons. After imposing the constraints from the electroweak precision tests, colliders and dark matter search experiments, one concludes that two or one or none of the two Higgs bosons, depending on the mass relations among two scalar bosons and the dark …
Motivated by the fact that, so far, the whole body of evidence for dark matter is of gravitational origin, we study the decays of dark matter into Standard Model particles mediated by gravity portals, i.e., through nonminimal gravitational interactions of dark matter. We investigate the decays in several widely studied frameworks of scalar and fermionic dark matter where the dark matter is stabilized in flat spacetime via global symmetries. We find that the constraints on the scalar singlet dark matter candidate are remarkably strong and exclude large regions of the parameter space, suggesting…
Higgs portal models are the most minimal way to explain the relic abundance of the Universe. They add just a singlet that only couples to the Higgs through a single parameter that controls both the dark matter relic abundance and the direct detection cross-section. Unfortunately this scenario, either with scalar or fermionic dark matter, is almost ruled out by the latter. In this paper we analyze the Higgs-portal idea with fermionic dark matter in the context of a 2HDM. By disentangling the couplings responsible for the correct relic density from those that control the direct detection cross s…
We examine a model with a fermionic dark matter candidate having pseudoscalar interaction with the standard model particles where its direct detection elastic scattering cross section at tree level is highly suppressed. We then calculate analytically the leading loop contribution to the spin independent scattering cross section. It turns out that these loop effects are sizable over a large region of the parameter space. Taking constraints from direct detection experiments, the invisible Higgs decay measurements, observed DM relic density, we find viable regions which are within reach in the fu…
The DAMPE experiment has recently reported strong indications for the existence of an excess of high-energy electrons and positrons. If interpreted in terms of the annihilation of dark matter, the DAMPE result restricts the dark matter mass and possible annihilation channels to a few case. In this paper we explain the DAMPE result with the electron-flavored $Z^\prime$-portal fermionic dark matter. We show that the Dirac dark matter scenario is promising to explain the excess via the process $\bar χχ\to\mathbf{Z}'\to \bar e e$. The reduced annihilation cross section is limited in a range of $10…
We explore the Dirac fermionic and complex scalar dark matter in the framework of a hidden $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{X}$ gauge theory with kinetic mixing between the $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{X}$ and $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{Y}$ gauge fields. The $\mathrm{U}(1)_\mathrm{X}$ gauge symmetry is spontaneously broken due to a hidden Higgs field. The kinetic mixing provides a portal between dark matter and standard model particles. Besides, an additional Higgs portal can be realized in the complex scalar case. Dark matter interactions with nucleons are typically isospin violating, and direct detection constr…
Higgs-portal interactions of fermionic dark matter -- in contrast to fermions coupled via Yukawa interactions -- can have a stabilizing effect on the standard-model Higgs potential. A non-perturbative renormalization-group analysis reveals that, similar to higher-order operators in the Higgs potential itself, the fermionic portal coupling can increase the metastability scale by only about one order of magnitude. Furthermore, this regime of very weakly coupled dark matter is in conflict with relic-density constraints. Conversely, fermionic dark matter with the right relic abundance requires eit…
Fermionic dark matter interacting with the Standard Model sector through a pseudoscalar portal could evade the direct detection constraints while preserving a WIMP miracle. We study the LHC constraints on the pseudoscalar production in simplified models with the pseudoscalar either dominantly coupled to b quarks or tau leptons and explore their implications for the GeV excesses in gamma ray observations. We also investigate models with new vector-like fermions that could realize the simplified models of pseudoscalar portal dark matter. These models yield new decay channels and signatures of ve…
We study a multi-component dark matter model where interactions with the Standard Model are primarily via the Higgs boson. The model contains vector-like fermions charged under $SU(2)_W \times U(1)_Y$ and under the dark gauge group, $U(1)^\prime$. This results in two dark matter candidates. A spin-1 and a spin-1/2 candidate, which have loop and tree-level couplings to the Higgs, respectively. We explore the resulting effect on the dark matter relic abundance, while also evaluating constraints on the Higgs invisible width and from direct detection experiments. Generally, we find that this model…
We study a fermionic dark matter model in which the interaction of the dark and visible sectors is mediated by Higgs portal type couplings. Specifically, we consider the mixing of a dark sector scalar with the scalars of a Two Higgs Doublet Model extension of the Standard Model. Given that scalar exchange will result in a spin-independent dark matter-nucleon scattering cross section, such a model is potentially subject to stringent direct detection constraints. Moreover, the addition of new charged scalars introduce non-trivial flavour constraints. Nonetheless, this model allows more freedom t…

The search for the a Standard Model Higgs boson at the LHC is reaching a critical stage as the possible mass range for the particle has become extremely narrow and some signal at a mass of about 125 GeV is starting to emerge. We study the implications of these LHC Higgs searches for Higgs portal models of dark matter in a rather model independent way. Their impact on the cosmological relic density and on the direct detection rates are studied in the context of generic scalar, vector and fermionic thermal dark matter particles. Assuming a sufficiently small invisible Higgs decay branching ratio…
We study the fermionic dark matter (DM) particle interacting with Standard Model quarks via a light pseudoscalar mediator. We consider separately the scenarios for which the DM-pseudoscalar coupling is $CP$ conserving or $CP$ violating. We show that taking a contact interaction is not suitable, even when the mediator has a mass of the same order of magnitude as the typical momentum transfer at the direct-detection experiments, such that the allowed DAMA region is excluded or considerably modified by the correct relic density requirement. The DAMA result seems to indicate that the $CP$-violatin…
In the context of a two-Higgs doublet model, supplemented by an additional light pseudoscalar Higgs boson and a stable isosinglet fermion, we consider the possibility of addressing simultaneously the discrepancy from the standard expectation of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon recently measured at Fermilab and the longstanding problem of the dark matter in the universe which can be accounted for by a thermal weakly interacting massive particle. We show that it is indeed possible, for a range of masses and couplings of the new light pseudoscalar and the fermionic states, to explain at …
We consider models with fermionic dark matter that transforms under a non-Abelian dark gauge group. Exotic, vector-like leptons that also transform under the dark gauge group can mix with standard model leptons after spontaneous symmetry breaking and serve as a portal between the dark and visible sectors. We show in an explicit, renormalizable model based on a dark SU(2) gauge group how this can lead to adequate dark matter annihilation to a standard model lepton flavor so that the correct relic density is obtained. We identify a discrete symmetry that allows mass mixing between the vector-lik…
The type Ib seesaw, as an alternative explanation to the origin of neutrino mass, provides a new intriguing way to connect the neutrino physics to cosmology. In this proceeding, we consider a minimal type Ib seesaw model where the effective neutrino mass operator involves two different Higgs doublets and a heavy Dirac mass. We propose a minimal dark matter extension of this model, in which the Dirac heavy neutrino is coupled to a dark Dirac fermion and a dark complex scalar field, both odd under a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, where the lighter one serves as a dark matter candidate. Focussing on th…
We present a class of models in which dark matter (DM) is a fermionic singlet under the Standard Model (SM) gauge group but is charged under a symmetry of flavour that acts as well on the SM fermions. Interactions between DM and SM particles are mediated by the scalar fields that spontaneously break the flavour symmetry, the so-called flavons. In the case of gauged flavour symmetries, the interactions are also mediated by the flavour gauge bosons. We first discuss the construction and the generic features of this class of models. Then a concrete example with an abelian flavour symmetry is cons…
We explore a simple and renormalizable model which incorporates a new stable fermion that accounts for the dark matter in the universe and which, at the same time, provides an interpretation of two recent measurements that deviate from the expectation in the Standard Model: the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the mass of the W-boson recently performed by the CDF collaboration. The model has a fermionic sector that involves a singlet and a doublet fields and in which the lightest state is the DM and interacts mainly through the Higgs portal. Two realizations of such a possibility are conside…
We introduce a light dark photon $A_μ^\prime$ to the minimal Higgs portal model, by coupling the Higgs boson to "dark QED" containing fermionic dark matter, which gives rise to rich and interesting collider phenomenology. There are two prominent features in such a simple extension -- the Higgs boson could have decays into the long-lived dark photon through the "mono-$A^\prime$ channel," or into multiple collimated leptons via "darkonium," depending on the mixing parameter of the $A_μ^\prime$ with the visible photon. We initiate a study on the possibility of probing the parameter space of the m…
We explore the Renormalization Group flow of massive uncharged fermions -- a candidate for dark matter -- coupled to a scalar field through a Higgs portal. We find that fermionic fluctuations can lower the bound on the scalar mass that arises from vacuum stability. Further, we discuss that despite the perturbative nonrenormalizability of the model, it could be ultraviolet complete at an asymptotically safe fixed point. In our approximation, this simple model exhibits two mechanisms for asymptotic safety: a balance of fermionic and bosonic fluctuations generates a fixed point in the scalar self…
We investigate the role of the Higgs \emph{doublet} in the thermal decoupling of multi-TeV dark matter coupled to the Weak interactions of the Standard Model and the Higgs. The Higgs doublet can mediate a long-range force that affects the annihilation processes and binds dark matter into bound states. More importantly, the emission of a Higgs doublet by a pair of dark matter particles can give rise to extremely rapid monopole bound-state formation processes and bound-to-bound transitions. We compute these effects in the unbroken electroweak phase. To this end, we consider the simplest renormal…
We work with a UV conformal U(1)' extension of the Standard Model, motivated by the hierarchy problem and recent collider anomalies. This model admits fermionic vector portal WIMP dark matter charged under the U(1)' gauge group. The asymptotically safe boundary conditions can be used to fix the coupling parameters, which allows the observed thermal relic abundance to constrain the mass of the dark matter particle. This highly restricts the parameter space, allowing strong predictions to be made. The parameter space of several UV conformal U(1)' scenarios will be explored, and both bounds and p…
Pulsars apparently missing from the galactic center could have been destroyed by asymmetric fermionic dark matter ($m_X = 1-100$ GeV) coupled to a light scalar ($m_ϕ= 5-20$ MeV), which mixes with the Higgs boson. We point out that this pulsar-collapsing dark sector can resolve the core-cusp problem and will either be excluded or discovered by upcoming direct detection experiments. Another implication is a maximum pulsar age curve that increases with distance from the galactic center, with a normalization that depends on the couplings and masses of dark sector particles. In addition, we use old…
We study the phenomenology of the inverse seesaw mechanism in the scalar-Higgs portal dark matter model. The model is an extension of the Standard Model including two additional neutrinos, a singlet scalar and a fermionic dark matter. We consider the inverse seesaw mechanism where the mass of 2 additional neutrinos are made dynamic by the singlet scalar. We found that the natural scale for the scalar vacuum expectation value is naturally close to the weak scale. Motivating by this fact, we focus on the possibility of the singlet scalar connecting with dark matter, i.e., the scalar is also the …
Warped models with the Higgs confined to the weak brane and the gauge and matter fields accessing the $AdS_5$ bulk provide viable setting to address the gauge hierarchy problem. Brane kinetic terms for the bulk fields are known to ease some of the tensions of these models with precision electroweak observables and flavor constraints. We study the loop-driven Higgs coupling to the gluons that are relevant to the Higgs program at LHC, in this scenario. We demonstrate a partial cancellation in the contribution of the fermionic Kaluza-Klein (KK) towers within such framework relatively independent …
