We study electroweak symmetry breaking in minimal composite Higgs models $SU(4)/Sp(4)$ with purely fermionic UV completions based on a confining Hypercolor gauge group and find that the extra Higgs potential from the underlying preon mass can destruct the correlation between the mass of Higgs and composite partners. Thus the composite partners can be very heavy for successful electroweak symmetry breaking without enhancing the separation between the new physical scale and Higgs VEV. So this kind of model can be easily realized by ordinary strong dynamics theories without artificial assumptions and more likely consistent with lattice simulations. The UV completion of partial compositeness predicts a light singlet Goldstone boson which interacts with QCD and electroweak gauge bosons through Wess-Zumino-Witten terms. It can be produced through gluon fusion at LHC and decay into gauge boson pairs. We briefly discuss its phenomenology and derive its bounds from LHC searches.
In composite Higgs models light fermionic top partners often play an important role in obtaining a 126 GeV Higgs mass. The presence of these top partners implies that coloured vector mesons, or massive gluon partners, most likely exist. Since the coupling between the top partners and gluon partners can be large there are then sizeable two-loop contributions to the composite Higgs mass. We compute the radiative correction to the Higgs mass from a gluon partner in the minimal composite Higgs model and show that the Higgs mass is in fact reduced. This allows the top partner masses to be increased…
In a composite model of leptons and quarks, composite particles with heavy Majorana particles appear provided that the V-rishon is regarded as a Majorana particle. In this paper, the decay mode of such "Majorana partners" is isestigated. It is shown that the life time of Majorana partners are fairly long. Our model suggests that a new mechanism of proton decay is possible, where the X and Y bosons in GUTs are not necessary.
We consider a particular composite Higgs model which contains SU(3) color octet top partners besides the usually considered triplet representations. Moreover, color singlet top partners are present as well which can in principle serve as dark matter candidates. We investigate the LHC phenomenology of these unusual top partners. Some of these states could be confused with gluinos predicted in supersymmetric models at first glance.
Composite Higgs models with a fermionic UV completion can contain additional colored states beside the usual top-partners. We focus here on a model which contains in addition SU(3) color octet top partners as well as color singlet ones. The latter can in principle serve as a dark matter candidate. We consider a particular composite Higgs model which contains SU(3) color octet top partners besides the usually considered triplet representations. Moreover, color singlet top partners are present as well which can in principle serve as dark matter candidates. We investigate the LHC phenomenology of…
Vector-like quarks, usually dubbed top partners, are a common presence in composite Higgs models. Being composite objects, their mass is expected to be of the order of their inverse size, that is the condensation scale of the new strong interactions. Light top partners, while not being a generic prediction, are however often considered in phenomenological models. We suggest that their lightness may be due to the matching of global 't Hooft anomalies of the underlying theory. We check this mechanism in explicit models showing that, in one case, composite fermions with the quantum numbers of the…
In composite Higgs models, the generation of quark masses requires the standard model-like quarks to be partially or fully composite states which are accompanied by composite quark partners. The composite quark partners decay into a standard model-like quark and an electroweak gauge boson or Higgs boson, which can be searched for at the LHC. In this article, we study the phenomenological implications of composite quarks in the minimal composite Higgs model based on the coset $SO(5)/SO(4)$. We focus on light quark partners which are embedded in the $SO(4)$ singlet representation. In this case, …
Anomalously light fermionic partners of the top quark often appear in explicit constructions, such as the 5d holographic models, where the Higgs is a light composite pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson and its potential is generated radiatively by top quark loops. We show that this is due to a structural correlation among the mass of the partners and the one of the Higgs boson. Because of this correlation, the presence of light partners could be essential to obtain a realistic Higgs mass. We quantitatively confirm this generic prediction, which applies to a broad class of composite Higgs models, by s…
We give an explicit example of a composite Higgs model with a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone Higgs in which the top Yukawa coupling is generated via the partial compositeness mechanism. This mechanism requires composite top partners which are relatively light compared to the typical mass scale of the strongly coupled theory. While most studies of the phenomenology of such models have focused on a bottom-up approach with a minimal effective theory, a top-down approach suggests that that the theory should contain a limit in which an unbroken global chiral symmetry protects the mass of the top partners, …
Fermionic third generation top partners are generic in composite Higgs models. They are likely to decay into third generation quarks and electroweak bosons. We propose a novel cut-and-count-style analysis in which we cross correlate the model-dependent single and model-independent pair production processes for the top partners $X_{5/3}$ and $B$. In the class of composite Higgs models we study, $X_{5/3}$ is very special as it is the lightest exotic fermion. A constraint on the mass of $X_{5/3}$ directly extends to constrains on all top partner masses. By combining jet substructure methods with …
The composite subquark model previously proposed by us shows that the intermediate $Z^{0}$-weak-boson is realized as the composite particle and that its scalar partner has the mass value larger than $Z^{0}$-weak-boson mass. It is suggested that 125 Gev Higgs-boson found at LHC is a scalar partner of 91 Gev $Z^{0}$-weak-boson. We predict the existence of charged Higgs-bosons with the mass value around 100 to 120 Gev as the scalar partners of $W^{\pm}$. We also discuss about Dark energy and Dark matter.
Colored fermionic partners of the top quark are well-known signatures of the Composite Higgs scenario and for this reason they have been and will be subject of an intensive experimental study at the LHC. Performing an assessment of the theoretical implications of this experimental effort is the goal of the present paper. We proceed by analyzing a set of simple benchmark models, characterized by simple two-dimensional parameter spaces where the results of the searches are conveniently visualized and their impact quantified. We only draw exclusion contours, in the hypothesis of no signal, but of…
Guided us by the scenario of weak scale naturalness and the possible existence of exotic resonances, we have explored in a $SO(5)$ Composite Higgs set-up the interplay among three matter sectors: elementary, top partners and vector resonances. We parametrise it through explicit interactions of spin-1 $SO(4)$-resonances, coupled to the $SO(5)$-invariant fermionic currents and tensors presented in this work. Such invariants are built upon the Standard Model fermion sector as well as top partners sourced by the unbroken $SO(4)$. The mass scales entailed by the top partner and vector resonance sec…
An important ingredient of many composite-Higgs scenarios is partial compositeness: a mass for the top quark is generated via mixing with baryonic operators of the same new strong dynamics that produces the composite Higgs particle. These baryonic operators are scale dependent. We construct these operators, and calculate their one-loop anomalous dimension, in a set of ultraviolet completions of the Standard Model proposed by Ferretti and Karateev.
We study the implications of a large degree of compositeness for the light generation quarks in composite pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone-boson Higgs models. We focus in particular on viable scenarios where the right-handed up-type quarks have a sizable mixing with the strong dynamics. For concreteness we assume the latter to be characterized by an SO(5)/SO(4) symmetry with fermionic resonances in the SO(4) singlet and fourplet representations. Singlet partners dominantly decay to a Higgs boson and jets. As no dedicated searches are currently looking for these final states, singlet partners can still b…
In this paper we explore composite Higgs scenarios through the effects of light top-partners in Higgs+Jet production at the LHC. The pseudo-Goldstone boson nature of the Higgs field means that single-Higgs production via gluon fusion is insensitive to the mass spectrum of the top-partners. However in associated production this is not the case, and new physics scales may be probed. In the course of the work we consider scenarios with both one and two light top-partner multiplets in the spectrum of composite states. We study corrections to the Higgs couplings and the effects that the light top-p…
Partial top quark compositeness is a crucial aspect of theories with strong electroweak symmetry breaking. Together with the heavy top partners that lift the top quark mass to its observed value, these theories predict correlated modifications of the top quark's electroweak couplings. Associated measurements therefore provide direct constraints on the ultraviolet structure of the underlying hypercolour dynamics. In this paper we employ a minimal version of top compositeness to discuss how measurements related to the top's electroweak gauge interactions can inform the potential composite nature…
We consider how best to search for top partners in generic composite Higgs models. We begin by classifying the possible group representations carried by top partners in models with and without a custodial $SU(2)\times SU(2) \rtimes \mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry protecting the rate for $Z \rightarrow b\overline{b}$ decays. We identify a number of minimal models whose top partners only have electric charges of $\frac{1}{3}, \frac{2}{3},$ or $\frac{4}{3}$ and thus decay to top or bottom quarks via a single Higgs or electroweak gauge boson. We develop an inclusive search for these based on a top veto, wh…
Light top partners are the prime sign of naturalness in composite Higgs models. We explore here the possibility of non-standard top partner phenomenology. We show that even in the simplest extension of the minimal composite Higgs model, featuring an extra singlet pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson, the branching ratios of the top partners into standard channels can be significantly altered, with no substantial change in the generated Higgs potential. Together with the variety of possible final states from the decay of the pseudo-scalar singlet, this motivates more extensive analyses in the search fo…
We propose a new search strategy for quark partners which decay into a boosted Higgs and a light quark. As an example, we consider phenomenologically viable right handed up-type quark partners of mass $\sim 1$ TeV in composite pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone-boson Higgs models within the context of flavorful naturalness. Our results show that $S/B > 1$ and signal significance of $\sim 7σ$ is achievable at $\sqrt{s} = 14$ TeV LHC with 35 $fb^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, sufficient to claim discovery of a new particle. A combination of a multi-dimensional boosted Higgs tagging technique, kinematics of…
Composite Higgs models provide a natural, non-supersymmetric solution to the hierarchy problem. In these models, one or more sets of heavy top-partners are typically introduced. Some of these new quarks can be relatively light, with a mass of a few hundred GeV, and could be observed with the early LHC collision data expected to be collected during 2010. We analyse in detail the collider signatures that these new quarks can produce. We show that final states with two (same-sign) or three leptons are the most promising discovery channels. They can yield a 5 sigma excess over the Standard Model e…
We consider four-dimensional UV descriptions of composite Higgs models without elementary scalars, in which four-fermion interactions are introduced to an underlying gauge theory like in the gauged NJL model. When the anomalous dimension of the fermion bilinear is large, these interactions drive the spontaneous global symmetry breaking in the model, with the Higgs identified as a Nambu-Goldstone boson. The UV descriptions support composite top partner operators, also with large anomalous dimensions, thereby providing an explicit realisation of the idea of partial compositeness. In particular, …
The radial excitation of the global symmetry-breaking vacuum in composite Higgs models, called the "global Higgs", has been recently a focus of investigation. In this paper we study the prospects for detecting this composite scalar at the 13 TeV LHC. We compute the global Higgs production rates and estimate the discovery potential of a global Higgs decaying into top quark pairs and into Higgs and electroweak gauge bosons with subsequent hadronic decays. The global Higgs may also decay into fermion resonances such as top partners, providing a new window into compositeness. We show that top part…
We analyze quantitatively the tuning of composite Higgs models with partial compositeness and its interplay with the predicted Higgs mass. In this respect we identify three classes of models, characterized by different quantum numbers of the fermionic colored resonances associated with the top quark, the so-called top partners. The main result of this classification is that in all models with moderate tuning a light Higgs, of 125 GeV mass, requires the presence of light top partners, around 1 TeV. The minimal tuning is comparable to the one of the most attractive supersymmetric models in parti…
Composite Higgs models, together with partial compositeness, predict the existence of new scalars and vector-like quarks (partners) at and above the TeV scale. Generically, the presence of these additional scalars opens up new decay topologies for the partners. In this paper we show how to systematically construct the general low energy Lagrangian to capture this feature. We emphasize the specific pattern in the top-partner spectrum arising in this class of models. We then present a concrete realization in the context of the SU(5)/SO(5) coset. We show that the top-partners in this model can ha…
If the Higgs boson $H(125)$ is a composite due to new strong interactions at high energy, it has spin-one partners, $ρ_H$ and $a_H$, analogous to the $ρ$ and $a_1$ mesons of QCD. These bosons are heavy, their mass determined by the strong interaction scale. The strongly interacting particles light enough for $ρ_H$ and $a_H$ to decay to are the longitudinal weak bosons $V_L = W_L,\, Z_L$ and the Higgs boson $H$. These decay signatures are consistent with resonant diboson excesses recently reported near 2 TeV by ATLAS and CMS. We calculate $σ\times BR(ρ_H \to VV) =$ few fb and $σ\times BR(a_H \t…
Motivated by Beyond the Standard Model theories of composite fermions or top partners, we propose a holographic mechanism that generates light baryonic states in a strongly coupled gauge theory. The starting point are the fermionic fluctuations of massive probe branes embedded into AdS$_5 \times S^5$. We first consider the D3/probe D7-brane system. We derive in detail the fermionic fluctuation equations and show the supersymmetric degeneracy of the mesinos with the mesons. Here we view the fermionic mesinos as potential realizations of composite fermions or top partners. We then add higher dim…
We study the Higgs mass in composite Higgs models with partial compositeness, extending the results of Ref. [1] to different representations of the composite sector for SO(5)/SO(4) and to the coset SO(6)/SO(5). For a given tuning we find in general a strong correlation between the mass of the top partners and the Higgs mass, akin to the one in supersymmetry. If the theory is natural a Higgs mass of 125 GeV typically requires fermionic partners below TeV which might be within the reach of the present run of LHC. A discussion of CP properties of both cosets is also presented.
The subquark model previously proposed by us showes that the intermediate $Z^0$-boson is realized as the composite object and its scalar partner has the mass value larger than $Z^0$-boson mass, which is about 110 GeV.
We study a holographic realisation of a composite Higgs model with an SO(6)/SO(5) symmetry breaking coset in which the top sector includes colour-neutral twin-partners that reduce the sensitivity of the Higgs mass to the cut-off. Key to this neutral-naturalness mechanism is a Z2 symmetry that leaves the Yukawa couplings to the Higgs boson invariant under an exchange of the top quark and twin top quark, but the symmetry structure of the model means that the Z2 symmetry is not present in the gauge boson couplings to the Higgs. Within the calculable framework of holography we construct and study …
In composite Higgs models with partial compositeness, the small value of the observed Higgs mass implies the existence of light fermionic resonances, the top partners, whose quantum numbers are determined by the symmetry (and symmetry breaking) structure of the theory. Here we study light top partners with electric charge 8/3, which are predicted, for instance, in some of the most natural composite Higgs realizations. We recast data from two same sign lepton searches and from searches for microscopic blackholes into a bound on its mass, M8/3 > 940 GeV. Furthermore, we compare potential reach o…
We discuss anomalous dimensions of top-partner candidates in theories of Partial Compositeness. First, we revisit, confirm and extend the computation by DeGrand and Shamir of anomalous dimensions of fermionic trilinears. We present general results applicable to all matter representations and to composite operators of any allowed spin. We then ask the question of whether it is reasonable to expect some models to have composite operators of sufficiently large anomalous dimension to serve as top-partners. While this question can be answered conclusively only by lattice gauge theory, within pertur…
We consider the scenario of composite Higgs with partial compositeness to address the muon g-2 anomaly. We show that this anomaly is resolved by one-loop correction due to composite muon partners with mass scale of order TeVs and large Yukawa coupling to composite Higgs, which is different from interpretations of vectorlike lepton models. We present parameter space by imposing indirect constraints from precise measurements on Higgs, Z and oblique electroweak parameters. We analyze direct constraints in light of both Drell-Yan and Higgs-associated productions of the composite muon partners at h…
In composite Higgs models (CHMs), electroweak precision data generically push colourless composite vector resonances to a regime where they dominantly decay into pairs of light top partners. This greatly attenuates their traces in canonical collider searches, tailored for narrow resonances promptly decaying into Standard Model final states. By reinterpreting the CMS same-sign dilepton (SS2$\ell$) analysis at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), originally designed to search for top partners with electric charge $5/3$, we demonstrate its significant coverage over this kinematical regime. We also sh…
Minimal Composite Higgs Models (MCHM) have long provided a solution to the hierarchy problem of the Standard Model, yet suffer from various sources of fine tuning that are becoming increasingly problematic with the lack of new physics observations at the LHC. We develop a new fine tuning measure that accurately counts each contribution to fine tuning (single, double, triple, etc) that can occur in a theory with $n_p$ parameters, that must reproduce $n_o$ observables. We then use a novel scanning procedure to perform a comprehensive study of three different two-site, 4D, $SO(5)\rightarrow SO(4)…
Composite Higgs models, where the Higgs boson is identified with the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone-Boson (pNGB) of a strong sector, typically have light composite fermions (top partners) to account for a light Higgs. This type of models generically also predicts the existence of heavy vector fields (composite gluons) which appear as an octet of QCD. These composite gluons generically become very broad resonances once phase-space allows them to decay into two composite fermions. This makes their traditional experimental searches, which are designed to look for narrow resonances, quite ineffective. In …
A composite Higgs boson of 125 GeV mass, only mildly fine-tuned, requires top partners with a semi-perturbative coupling and a mass not greater than about a TeV. We analyze the strong constraints on such picture arising from flavour and electroweak precision tests in models of partial compositeness. We consider different representations for the composite fermions and compare the case of an anarchic flavour structure to models with a U(3)^3 and U(2)^3 flavour symmetry. Although non trivially, some models emerge that look capable of accommodating a 125 GeV Higgs boson with top partners in an int…
The discovery of the Higgs boson has put considerable pressure on theories that aim to solve the hierarchy problem. Scenarios in which the Higgs is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (NGB) of some new strong dynamics must possess a number of non-generic features in order to pass the progressively stringent collider bounds and simultaneously meet our naturalness criteria. Among these features are the existence of light fermionic partners of the top quark and an efficient collective breaking of the Nambu-Goldstone symmetry. The top partners have to be not only parametrically lighter than the other c…
We demonstrate that the inclusion of a realistic lepton sector can relax significantly the upper bound on top partner masses in minimal composite Higgs models, induced by the lightness of the Higgs boson. To that extend, we present a comprehensive survey of the impact of different realizations of the fermion sectors on the Higgs potential, with a special emphasis on the role of the leptons. The non-negligible compositeness of the $τ_R$ in a general class of models that address the flavor structure of the lepton sector and the smallness of the corresponding FCNCs, can have a significant effect …
We study analytically and numerically the bounds imposed by the electroweak precision tests on a minimal composite Higgs model. The model is based on spontaneous SO(5)/SO(4) breaking, so that an approximate custodial symmetry is preserved. The Higgs arises as a pseudo-Goldstone boson at a scale below the electroweak symmetry breaking scale. We show that one can satisfy the electroweak precision constraints without much fine-tuning. This is the case if the left-handed top quark is fully composite, which gives a mass spectrum within the reach of the LHC. However a composite top quark is strongly…
We present a novel realization of a composite Higgs, which can naturally produce top partners above the current LHC bounds without increasing the tuning above 10%. The essential ingredients are softened breaking of the Higgs shift symmetry as well as maximal symmetry, which turn out to perfectly complement each other. The 5D realization of this model is particularly simple: universal UV and IR boundary conditions for the bulk fermions containing the SM fields will cure the problems of existing holographic composite Higgs models and provide a complete viable model for a naturally light Higgs wi…
We classify the four-dimensional purely fermionic gauge theories that give a UV completion of composite Higgs models. Our analysis is at the group theoretical level, addressing the necessary (but not sufficient) conditions for the viability of these models, such as the existence of top partners and custodial symmetry. The minimal cosets arising are those of type SU(5)/SO(5) and SU(4)/Sp(4). We list all the possible "hyper-color" groups allowed and point out the simplest and most promising ones.
Two potential sources of tuning exist in composite Higgs models: one comes from keeping the Higgs VEV below the compositeness scale and one comes from keeping the Higgs light after constraints on the top partner masses are applied. We construct a measure that determines whether these tunings are independent or not and combines them appropriately. We perform a comprehensive scan of the parameter space for three explicit models and report the minimum tuning values compatible with existing collider constraints. Tuning values are given as functions of resonance masses and deviations to the Higgs c…
The top quark can be naturally singled out from other fermions in the Standard Model due to its large mass, of the order of the electroweak scale. We follow this reasoning in models of pseudo Nambu Goldstone Boson composite Higgs, which may derive from an underlying confining dynamics. We consider a new class of flavour models, where the top quark obtains its mass via partial compositeness, while the lighter fermions acquire their masses by a deformation of the dynamics generated at a high flavour scale. One interesting feature of such scenario is that it can avoid all the flavour constraints …
We analyze the corrections to the precision EW observables in minimal composite Higgs models by using a general effective parametrization which also includes the lightest fermionic resonances. A new, possibly large, logarithmically divergent contribution to S is identified, which comes purely from the strong dynamics. It can be interpreted as a running of S induced by the non-renormalizable Higgs interactions due to the non-linear sigma-model structure. As expected, the corrections to the T parameter coming from fermion loops are finite and dominated by the contributions of the lightest compos…
We consider a class of composite Higgs models based on asymptotically free $SO(d)$ gauge theories with $d$ odd, with fermions in two irreducible representations, and in which the Higgs field arises as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson and the top quark is partially composite. The Nambu-Goldstone coset containing the Higgs field, or Higgs coset, is either $SU(4)/Sp(4)$ or $SU(5)/SO(5)$, whereas the top partners live in two-index representations of the relevant flavor group ($SU(4)$ or $SU(5)$). In both cases, there is a large number of terms in the most general four-fermion lagrangian describing t…
We use lattice simulations to compute the baryon spectrum of SU(4) lattice gauge theory coupled to dynamical fermions in the fundamental and two-index antisymmetric (sextet) representations simultaneously. This model is closely related to a composite Higgs model in which the chimera baryon made up of fermions from both representations plays the role of a composite top-quark partner. The dependence of the baryon masses on each underlying fermion mass is found to be generally consistent with a quark-model description and large-Nc scaling. We combine our numerical results with experimental bounds…
We study the consequences of combining SUSY with a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson Higgs coming from an SO(5)/SO(4) coset and partial compositeness. In particular, we focus on how electroweak symmetry breaking and the Higgs mass are reproduced in models where the symmetry SO(5) is linearly realized. The global symmetry forbids tree-level contributions to the Higgs potential coming from D-terms, differently from what happens in most of the SUSY little-Higgs constructions. While the stops are generally heavy, light fermion top partners below 1 TeV are predicted. In contrast to what happens in non-S…
Top partners from a new strong sector can be discovered soon, at the 8 TeV LHC, by analyzing their single production, which exhibits a large enhancement in the cross section compared to the analogous productions of bottom partners and exotic quarks. We analyze the subsequent decay of the top partners into a 125 GeV Higgs. This channel proves to be very promising for both the discovery of top partners and a test of the Higgs sector. For a reference value $λ_{\tilde{T}}=3$ of the Higgs coupling to the top partner, we could have a discovery (observation) at the 8 TeV LHC, with 30 fb$^{-1}$, for t…
We present a model of partial compositeness arising as the IR limit of a SU(4) gauge theory with only fermionic matter. This group is one of the most promising ones among a handful of possible choices allowing a symmetry breaking pattern incorporating custodial symmetry and a top partner candidate, while retaining asymptotic freedom. It is favored for not giving rise to lepto-quarks or Landau poles in the SM gauge couplings. The minimal UV theory consists of five hyperfermions in the anti-symmetric representation and three in the fundamental and anti-fundamental. The IR theory is centered arou…
We provide gauge/gravity dual descriptions of the strong coupling sector of composite Higgs models using insights from non-conformal examples of the AdS/CFT correspondence. We calculate particle masses and decay constants for proposed Sp(4) and SU(4) gauge theories, where there is the best lattice data for comparison. Our results compare favorably to lattice studies and go beyond those due to a greater flexibility in choosing the fermion content. That content changes the running dynamics and its choice can lead to sizable changes in the bound state masses. We describe top partners by a dual fe…
We find the exchange symmetry between left and right handed top quark in composite Higgs model with partial compositeness is efficient to soften the Higgs potential and reduce fine tuning. This symmetry can keep the Higgs potential in top sector invariant under trigonometric parity $\sin (h/f) \leftrightarrow \cos (h/f)$ and thus the Higgs quadratic divergences can be completely cancelled, resulting a UV insensitive Higgs potential. We explicitly construct the minimal left-right symmetric model based on coset space $SO(6)/SO(5)$ which is locally isomorphic to $SU(4)/Sp(4)$ and thus has well de…
We study the lepton sector of composite Higgs models with partial compositeness. The standard anarchic scenario is in conflict with the absence of observable charged lepton flavor violation. This tension can be completely solved in MFV scenarios that require either left-handed or right-handed SM leptons to be equally composite. Constraints on this scenario are weak and the composite lepton partners could be as light as few hundreds GeVs with interesting LHC signatures. The contribution to the muon (g-2) in theories where the Higgs is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson is also discussed.
Like many other models, Composite Higgs Models feature the existence of heavy vector-like quarks. Mixing effects between the Standard Model fields and the heavy states, which can be quite large in case of the top quark, imply deviations from the SM. In this work we investigate the possibility of heavy bottom partners. We show that they can have a significant impact on electroweak precision observables and the current Higgs results if there is a sizeable mixing with the bottom quark. We explicitly check that the constraints from the measurement of the CKM matrix element $V_{tb}$ are fulfilled, …
Composite Higgs Models are often constructed including fermionic top partners with a mass around the TeV scale, with the top partners playing the role of stabilizing the Higgs potential and enforcing partial compositeness for the top quark. A class of models of this kind can be formulated in terms of fermionic strongly coupled gauge theories. A common feature they all share is the presence of specific additional scalar resonances, namely two neutral singlets and a colored octet, described by a simple effective Lagrangian. We study the phenomenology of these scalars, both in a model independent…
Models of compositeness can successfully address the origin of the Higgs boson, as a pseudo Nambu Goldstone boson (pNGB) of a spontaneously broken global symmetry, and flavour physics via the partial compositeness mechanism. If the dynamics is generated by a confining gauge group with fermionic matter content, there exists only a finite set of models that have the correct properties to account for the Higgs and top partners at the same time. In this letter we explore the theory space of this class of models: remarkably, all of them contain - beyond the pNGB Higgs - a pNGB singlet, $a$, which c…
We study gravity wave production and baryogenesis at the electroweak phase transition, in a real singlet scalar extension of the Standard Model, including vector-like top partners to generate the CP violation needed for electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG). The singlet makes the phase transition strongly first-order through its coupling to the Higgs boson, and it spontaneously breaks CP invariance through a dimension-5 contribution to the top quark mass term, generated by integrating out the heavy top quark partners. We improve on previous studies by incorporating updated transport equations, compa…
The phenomenology entailed by a scalar resonance in a top partner model is analysed here in a $SO(5)$ Composite Higgs formalism. Heavy scalar resonances production and their decays modes are explored along a benchmark resonance mass range. The production of single-double partner final states has been scanned along the partner mass scale. QCD drives such production, as well as the SM gauge, Higgs, plus the intermediation of the scalar resonance. Non-zero contributions are induced as long as extra fermion-resonance effects are included. Finally, we have excluded regions of the parameter spaces u…
