The flux of electron and positron cosmic rays measured by the space-based experiments PAMELA, AMS-02, CALET, DAMPE and Fermi-LAT shows an unexpected behaviour at high energies, in comparison with expectations from standard astrophysical sources. In particular, AMS-02 observations provide compelling evidence for a new source of positrons and electrons whose origin is still unknown. Plausible scenarios include either the contribution of dark matter or unresolved astrophysical sources, such as nearby pulsars. It has been shown that explanations based mostly on dark matter, tend to overproduce gamma-rays, entering in conflict with measurements of the extra-galactic gamma-ray background (EGB). Although this situation seems to be quite generic, it ultimately depends on the properties of the dark matter candidate. In this work we revisit a model in which the gravitino is a dark matter candidate decaying to SM particles through R-parity violating couplings. We show that decay channels allowed by trilinear couplings produce more electrons and positrons and fewer photons in comparison to channels allowed by bilinear couplings. Indeed, when considering AMS-02 data alone we find that the trilinear model is compatible with EGB constraints. However, this result may change when DAMPE or CALET measurements of the sum of electrons and positrons fluxes are considered instead of AMS-02 data. Therefore, in order to evaluate this model further, discrepancies between the data collected by these experiments need to be clarified
Recent positron flux fraction measurements in cosmic-rays (CR) made by the AMS-02 satellite confirm and extends the evidence on the existence of a new (yet unknown) source of high energy positrons. To explain this excess, we use the gravitino of bilinear R-parity violating SUSY models as a decaying Dark Matter candidate, as the source of those high energy particles. Being a long lived weak-interacting and spin 3/2 particle, it offers several particularities which makes it an attractive candidate. We compute the electron, positron and $γ$-ray\ fluxes produced by each gravitino decay channel at …
We propose a new class of R-parity violating extension of MSSM with type II seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses where an unstable gravitino is the dark matter of the Universe. It decays predominantly into three leptons final states, thereby providing a natural explanation of the positron excess but no antiproton excess in the PAMELA experiment. The model can explain neutrino masses without invoking any high scale physics while keeping the pre-existing baryon asymmetry of the universe in tact.
Motivated by the recent results from the PAMELA and ATIC, we study the cosmic-ray electron and positron produced by the decay of gravitino dark matter. We calculate the cosmic-ray electron and positron fluxes and discuss implications to the PAMELA and ATIC data. In this paper, we will show that the observed anomalous fluxes by the PAMELA and ATIC can be explained in such a scenario. We will also discuss the synchrotron radiation flux from the Galactic center in such a scenario.
The AMS-02 collaboration has recently reported an excess of cosmic-ray positron fractions, which is consistent with previous results at PAMELA and Fermi-LAT experiments. The result indicates the existence of new physics phenomena to provide the origin of the energetic cosmic-ray positron. We pursue the possibility that the enhancement of the positron fraction is due to the decay of gravitino dark matter. We discuss that such a scenario viably fits into the models in which the soft SUSY breaking parameters are dominantly from gauge-mediation mechanism with superparticle masses of around 10 TeV.…
We present the phenomenology of a supersymmetric model with sneutrino as the next to lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) in the gravitino dark matter scenario at the LHC. We focus on the leptonic signatures and study the feasibility of a particular trilepton signature as a possible discovery channel of supersymmetry.
Gravitino dark matter, together with thermal leptogenesis, implies an upper bound on the masses of superparticles. In the case of broken R-parity the constraints from primordial nucleosynthesis are naturally satisfied and decaying gravitinos lead to characteristic signatures in high energy cosmic rays. Electron and positron fluxes from gravitino decays cannot explain both, the PAMELA positron fraction and the electron + positron flux recently measured by Fermi LAT. The observed fluxes require astrophysical sources. The measured antiproton flux allows for a sizable contribution of decaying grav…
We study gamma ray and positron in high energy cosmic ray from the decay of the gravitino dark matter in the framework of supersymmetric model with R-parity violation. Even though R-parity is violated, the lifetime of the gravitino, which is assumed to be the lightest superparticle, can be longer than the present age of the universe if R-parity violating interactions are weak enough. In such a case, gravitino can be dark matter of the universe and its decay produces high energy cosmic rays. We calculate the fluxes of gamma ray and positron from the decay of the gravitino dark matter and discus…
We analyze the cosmic-ray signatures of decaying gravitino dark matter in a model independent way based on an operator analysis. Thermal leptogenesis and universal boundary conditions at the GUT scale restrict the gravitino mass to be below 600 GeV. Electron and positron fluxes from gravitino decays, together with the standard GALPROP background, cannot explain both, the PAMELA positron fraction and the electron + positron flux recently measured by Fermi LAT. For gravitino dark matter, the observed fluxes require astrophysical sources. The measured antiproton flux allows for a sizable contribu…
The $[SU(3)]^4$ quartification model of Babu, Ma, and Willenbrock (BMW), proposed in 2003, predicts a confining leptonic color $SU(2)$ gauge symmetry, which becomes strong at the keV scale. It also predicts the existence of three families of half-charged leptons (hemions) below the TeV scale. These hemions are confined to form bound states which are not so easy to discover at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). However, just as $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ appeared as sharp resonances in $e^-e^+$ colliders of the 20th century, the corresponding 'hemionium' states are expected at a future $e^-e^+$ collider of th…
The scenario of gravitino dark matter with broken R-parity naturally reconciles three paradigms that, albeit very well motivated separately, seem to be in mutual conflict: supersymmetric dark matter, thermal leptogenesis and standard Big Bang nucleosynthesis. Interestingly enough, the products of the gravitino decay could be observed, opening the possibility of indirect detection of gravitino dark matter. In this paper, we compute the positron and the antiproton fluxes from gravitino decay. We find that a gravitino with a mass of 150 GeV and a lifetime of 10^26 s could simultaneously explain t…
We study the charged cosmic rays arising from the slow decay of gravitino dark matter within supersymmetric scenarios with trilinear R-parity violation. It is shown that operators of the LLE type can very well account for the recent anomalies in cosmic ray electron and positron data reported by PAMELA, ATIC and Fermi LAT, without violating any other bounds. This scenario will soon be tested by the Fermi LAT data on diffuse gamma ray emission.
We studied the dimension-6 leptonic anomalous gauge couplings in the formulation of linearly realized gauge symmetry effective Lagrangian and investigated the constraints on these anomalous couplings from the existed experimental data including LEP2 and $W$/$Z$ boson decay. Some bounds of $O(0.1-10){\rm TeV}^{-2}$ on four relevant anomalous couplings are given by the Z factories. We studied the sensitivity of testing the leptonic anomalous couplings via the process $e^+e^-\rightarrow W^+W^-$ at future $e^+e^-$ linear colliders. We discussed different sensitivities to anomalous couplings at pol…
The cross sections for the reactions of muonium(anti-muonium) production in high energy electron(positron) scattering by nuclei e^-(e^+) + Z -> Z + M^0(anti-M^0) + mu^-(mu^+) are calculated in dependence on an energy and polarization of an initial electron(positron) and a polarization of a final mu^-(mu^+)-meson. Due to coherent phenomenon the cross sections are proportional to Z^2. For Z ~ 100 due to the factor Z^2 the cross sections are large enough to be measured at energies available at the HERA Collider in DESY. The results are discussed in connection with a test of CPT invariance.

Supersymmetric models provide very interesting scenarios to account for the dark matter of the Universe. In this talk we discuss scenarios with gravitino dark matter in R-parity breaking vacua, which not only reproduce very naturally the observed dark matter relic density, but also lead to a thermal history of the Universe consistent with the observed abundances of primordial elements and the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry. In this class of scenarios the dark matter gravitinos are no longer stable, but decay with very long lifetimes into Standard Model particles, thus opening the possibi…
Recent observatons of high-energy positrons and electrons by the PAMELA and ATIC experiments may be an indication of the annihilation of dark matter into leptons and not quarks. This leptonic connection was foreseen already some years ago in two different models of radiative neutrino mass. We discuss here the generic interactions (nu eta^0 - l eta^+) chi and l^c zeta^- chi^c which allow this to happen, where chi and/or chi^c are fermionic dark-matter candidates. We point out in particular the importance of chi chi to l^+ l^- gamma to both positron and gamma-ray signals within this framework.
It was recently pointed out that in supersymmetric scenarios with gravitino dark matter and bilinear R-parity violation, gravitinos with masses below Mw typically decay with a sizable branching ratio into the 3-body final states W^*+lepton and Z^*+neutrino. In this paper we study the indirect detection signatures of gravitino dark matter including such final states. First, we obtain the gamma ray spectrum from gravitino decays, which features a monochromatic contribution from the decay into photon+neutrino and a continuum contribution from the three-body decays. After studying its dependence o…
The cosmic-ray excess observed by PAMELA in the positron fraction and by FERMI and HESS in the electron + positron flux can be interpreted in terms of DM annihilations or decays into leptonic final states. Final states into tau's or 4mu give the best fit to the excess. However, in the annihilation scenario, they are incompatible with photon and neutrino constraints, unless DM has a quasi-constant density profile. Final states involving electrons are less constrained but poorly fit the excess, unless hidden sector radiation makes their energy spectrum smoother, allowing a fit to all the data wi…
Positronium, the electron-positron bound state, is described to a good approximation by pure QED. The states of positronium have definite values of C and P. Consequently, positronium is an attractive system for the investigation of possible violations of the discrete symmetries in the leptonic sector. We discuss signals for CP and CPT violation in the decay of spin-polarized orthopositronium and show where such correlations might arise in the context of the Standard-Model Extension.
The gravitino in models with a small violation of R-parity is a well-motivated decaying dark matter candidate that leads to a cosmological scenario that is consistent with big bang nucleosynthesis and thermal leptogenesis. The gravitino lifetime is cosmologically long-lived since its decays are suppressed by the Planck-scale as well as the small R-parity violating parameter. We discuss the signals in different cosmic-ray species coming from the decay of gravitino dark matter, namely gamma rays, positrons, antiprotons, antideuterons and neutrinos. Comparison to cosmic-ray data can be used to co…
Recently PAMELA released their first results on the positron and antiproton ratios. Stimulated by the new data, we studied the cosmic ray propagation models and calculated the secondary positron and antiproton spectra. The low energy positron ratio can be consistent with data in the convection propagation model. Above $\sim 10$ GeV PAMELA data shows a clear excess on the positron ratio. However, the secondary antiproton is roughly consistent with data. The positron excess may be a direct evidence of dark matter annihilation or decay. We compare the positron and anti-proton spectra with data by…
We show that, if decaying gravitino dark matter is responsible for the PAMELA and ATIC/PPB-BETS anomalies in the cosmic-ray electron and positron fluxes, both a reheating temperature and a gluino mass are constrained from above. In particular, the gluino mass is likely within the reach of LHC, if the observed baryon asymmetry is explained by thermal leptogenesis scenario.
The non-unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix is a generic signal of new physics aiming at the generation of the observed neutrino masses. We discuss the Minimal Unitarity Violation (MUV) scheme, an effective field theory framework which represents the class of extensions of the Standard Model (SM) by heavy neutral leptons, and discuss the present bounds on the non-unitarity parameters as well as estimates for the sensitivity of the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), based on the performance parameters from the preCDR.
New heavy charged lepton production and decay signatures at future electron-positron colliders are investigated at $\sqrt {s}=500$ GeV. The consequences of model dependence for vector singlets and vector doublets are studied. Distributions are calculated including hadronization effects and experimental cuts that suppress the standard model background. The final state leptonic energy distributions are shown to give a very clear signature for heavy charged leptons.
The gravitino is a promising supersymmetric dark matter candidate which does not require exact R-parity conservation. In fact, even with some small R-parity breaking, gravitinos are sufficiently long-lived to constitute the dark matter of the Universe, while yielding a cosmological scenario consistent with primordial nucleosynthesis and the high reheating temperature required for thermal leptogenesis. In this paper, we compute the neutrino flux from direct gravitino decay and gauge boson fragmentation in a simple scenario with bilinear R-parity breaking. Our choice of parameters is motivated b…
We have compared the virtual corrections to electron-positron annihilation to fermion pairs with single hard bremsstrahlung as calculated by S. Jadach, M. Melles, B.F.L. Ward and S.A. Yost to several other expressions. The most recent of these comparisons is to the leptonic tensor calculated by J.H. Kuhn and G. Rodrigo for radiative return. Agreement is found to within $10^{-5}$ or better, as a fraction of the Born cross section.
We show that R-parity violating decay of Wino dark matter of mass \sim 3 TeV can naturally account for the flux and spectral shape of the cosmic-ray electrons and positrons observed by the PAMELA and Fermi satellites. To provide a theoretical basis for the scenario, we also present a model that trilinear R-parity breaking appears with a coefficient suppressed by powers of the gravitino mass, which naturally leads to the Wino lifetime of O(10^26) sec.
At future electron-positron colliders, one of the largest irreducible backgrounds to top searches in the channel `4 jets + lepton + missing energy' comes from QCD events of order $α_s^2$. We compute here such processes exactly at the parton level by resorting to 2 -> 6 matrix elements exploiting helicity amplitude techniques. We adopt a typical selection procedure based on the tagging of a high momentum and separated lepton. We finally outline kinematic differences between signal and background events that can be exploited to further reduce such a QCD noise.
We discuss a model of dark matter consisting of high energy anti-electron-neutrinos with leptonic force, which is produced by the conserved leptonic charge $g_\ell$ associated with Lee-Yang's $U_1$ gauge symmetry. Based on particle-cosmology for early universe, the high energy neutrino (HEN) model of dark matter assumes that the neutron decay processes, $n\to p^+ + e^- +\ovν_e$, dominate the epoch after the creation, collision and confinement processes of quarks and antiquarks in the beginning. The HEN model implies the following results: There are almost equal numbers of electrons, protons an…
AMS-02 provided the unprecedented statistics in the measurement of the positron fraction from cosmic rays. That may offer a unique opportunity to distinguish the positron spectrum coming from various dark matter (DM) annihilation channels, if DM is the source of this positron excess. Therefore, we consider the scenario that the DM can annihilate into leptonic, quark, and massive gauge boson channels simultaneously with floating branching ratios to test this hypothesis. We also study the impacts from MAX, MED, MIN, and DC diffusion models as well as from isothermal, NFW, and Einasto DM density …
We analyze the capability of the next generation of linear electron--positron colliders to unravel the spin and couplings of excited leptons predicted by composite models. Assuming that these machines will be able to operate both in the $e^+e^-$ and $e^-γ$ modes, we study the effects of the excited electrons of spin $\frac{1}{2}$ and $\frac{3}{2}$ in the reactions $e^-γ\rightarrow e^-γ$ and $e^+e^- \rightarrow γγ$. We show how the use of polarized beams is able not only to increase the reach of these machines, but also to determine the spin and couplings of the excited states.
We confront the signals expected from unstable gravitino dark matter with observations of indirect dark matter detection experiments in all possible cosmic-ray channels. For this purpose we calculate in detail the gravitino decay widths in theories with bilinear violation of R parity, particularly focusing on decay channels with three particles in the final state. Based on these calculations we predict the fluxes of gamma rays, charged cosmic rays and neutrinos expected from decays of gravitino dark matter. Although the predicted spectra could in principal explain the anomalies observed in the…
We calculate the flux of cosmic positrons from the dark matter annihilation in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity. The dark matter annihilates mainly into weak gauge bosons in the halo, and high energy positrons are produced through leptonic and hadronic decays of the bosons. We investigate a possibility to detect the positron signal in upcoming experiments such as PAMELA and AMS-02. We found that the dark matter signal can be distinguished from the background in the PAMELA experiment when the dark matter mass is less than 120 GeV and the signal flux is enhanced due to a small scale cluste…
If dark matter possesses a lepton number, it is natural to expect the dark-matter annihilation and/or decay mainly produces the standard model leptons, while negligible amount of the antiproton is produced. To illustrate such a simple idea, we consider a scenario that a right-handed sneutrino dark matter decays into the standard model particles through tiny R-parity violating interactions. Interestingly enough, charged leptons as well as neutrinos are directly produced, and they can lead to a sharp peak in the predicted positron fraction. Moreover, the decay of the right-handed sneutrino also …
We probe the dimension-six operators contributing to Higgs production in association with a $Z$ boson at the future high-luminosity electron-positron colliders. Potential constraints on dimension-six operators in the Higgs sector are determined by performing a shape analysis on the differential angular distribution of the Higgs and $Z$ boson decay products. The analysis is performed at the center-of-mass energies of 350 and 500 GeV including a realistic detector simulation and the main sources of background processes. The 68\% and 95\% confidence level upper limits are obtained on the contribu…
We present here a quantitative analysis of the recent AMS-02 data with the purpose of investigating the interplay between astrophysical sources and Dark Matter in their interpretation. First, we show that AMS-02 leptonic measurements are in a remarkably good agreement with the hypothesis that all electrons and positrons are the outcome of primary or secondary astrophysical processes. Then, we add Dark Matter to the picture, in order to establish which are the informations on its annihilation cross section (or lifetime) that can be inferred by fitting AMS-02 data within a scenario in which Dark…
The model--independent QED radiative corrections to polarization observables in elastic scattering of unpolarized and longitudinally--polarized electron beam by the deuteron target have been calculated in leptonic variables. The experimental setup when the deuteron target is arbitrarily polarized is considered and the procedure for applying derived results to the vector or tensor polarization of the recoil deuteron is discussed. The basis of the calculations consists of the account for all essential Feynman diagrams which results in the form of the Drell-Yan representation for the cross-sectio…
We propose a strategy for distinguishing the Dirac / Majorana character of heavy neutrinos with masses below the $W$ boson mass, using purely leptonic decays at the LHC. The strategy makes use of a forward-backward asymmetry of the opposite charge lepton in the $W^{+}\rightarrow l^{+}l^{+}l^{'-}ν$ decay. In order to check the experimental feasibility of the model, we show, through a numerical analysis, that in the decay $W^{+}\rightarrow e^{+}e^{+}μ^{-}ν$ the two positrons in the final state can be distinguished for different ranges of the heavy neutrino masses. Finally, we estimated the numbe…
Secondary radiation of hadrons from a tau pair produced in electron positron collisions may constitute an important obstacle for precision measurements of the production cross section and of branching ratios. The rate for real and virtual radiation is calculated and various distributions are presented. For Z decays a comprehensive analysis is performed which incorporates real and virtual radiation of leptons. The corresponding results are also given for primary electron and muon pairs. Compact analytical formulae are presented for entirely leptonic configurations. Measurements of $Z$ partial d…
The process $e^+e^-\to H t\bar t$ can be used at the Next Linear Collider to measure the Higgs-top Yukawa coupling. In this paper, we compute $2\to 8$ processes of the form $e^+e^-\to b\bar b b\bar b W^+W^-\to b\bar b b\bar b \ell^\pmν_\ell q\bar q'$, accounting for the Higgs-top-antitop signal as well as several irreducible backgrounds in the semi-leptonic top-antitop decay channel. We restrict ourselves to the case of a light Higgs boson in the range 100 GeV $\le M_H \le$ 140 GeV. We use helicity amplitude techniques to compute exactly such processes at tree level in the framework of the Sta…
The cosmic electron and positron excesses have been explained as possible dark matter (DM) annihilation products. In this work we investigate the possible effects of such a DM annihilation scenario during the evolution history of the Universe. We first calculate the extragalactic $γ$-ray background (EGRB), which is produced through the final state radiation of DM annihilation to charged leptons and the inverse Compton scattering between electrons/positrons and the cosmic microwave background. The DM halo profile and the minimal halo mass, which are not yet well determined from the current N-bo…
In this paper we show that positron data from AMS seems to rule out the explanation of the ARCADE isotropic radio background excess in terms of self-annihilating dark matter. In earlier works it was found that leptonic annihilation channels of light dark matter provide a good fit to the excess due to synchrotron emission of the final state particles. However, limits on the self-annihilation cross-section derived from the positron data of AMS now severely constrain light self-annihilating dark matter and cross-sections below that of a thermal relic are already tested for leptonic annihilation c…
The Michel parameter xi" has been determined from a measurement of the longitudinal polarization of positrons emitted in the decay of polarized and depolarized muons. The result, xi" = 0.981 +- 0.045stat +- 0.003syst, is consistent with the Standard Model prediction of unity, and provides an order of magnitude improvement in the relative precision of this parameter. This value sets new constraints on exotic couplings beyond the dominant V-A description of the leptonic weak interaction.
The AMS experiment onboard the International Space Station has recently provided cosmic ray electron and positron data with unprecedented precision in the range from 0.5 to 350 GeV. The observed rise in the positron fraction at energies above 10 GeV remains unexplained, with proposed solutions ranging from local pulsars to TeV-scale dark matter. Here, we make use of this high quality data to place stringent limits on dark matter with masses below ~300 GeV, annihilating or decaying to leptonic final states, essentially independent of the origin of this rise. We significantly improve on existing…
Recently published results from the PAMELA experiment have shown conclusive evidence for an excess of positrons at high (~ 10 - 100 GeV) energies, confirming earlier indications from HEAT and AMS-01. Such a signal is generally expected from dark matter annihilations. However, the hard positron spectrum and large amplitude are difficult to achieve in most conventional WIMP models. The absence of any associated excess in anti-protons is highly constraining on any model with hadronic annihilation modes. We revisit an earlier proposal, whereby the dark matter annihilates into a new light (<~GeV) b…
While the excess in cosmic-ray electrons and positrons reported by PAMELA and Fermi may be explained by dark matter decaying primarily into charged leptons, this does not necessarily mean that dark matter should not have any hadronic decay modes. In order to quantify the allowed hadronic activities, we derive constraints on the decay rates of dark matter into WW, ZZ, hh, qqbar and gg using the Fermi and HESS gamma-ray data. We also derive gamma-ray constraints on the leptonic e+e-, mu+mu- and tau+tau- final states. We find that dark matter must decay primarily into mu+mu- or tau+tau- in order …
Motivated by the recent PAMELA and ATIC results, we calculate the electron and positron fluxes from the decay of lightest-superparticle (LSP) dark matter. We assume that the LSP is the dominant component of dark matter, and consider the case that the R-parity is very weakly violated so that the lifetime of the LSP becomes of the order of 10^26 sec. We will see that, with such a choice of the lifetime, the cosmic-ray electron and positron from the decay can be the source of the anomalous electron and positron fluxes observed by PAMELA and ATIC. We consider the possibilities that the LSP is the …
Weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) are among the favored candidates for cold dark matter in the universe. The phenomenology of supersymmetric WIMPs has been quite developed during recent years. However, there are other possibilities which have not been discussed as much. One example is a right-handed massive neutrino, which has recently been proposed in the context of a version of the Zee model for massive neutrinos. This TeV-scale, leptonic WIMP (or LIMP, for short) may at first sight appear to be essentially undetectable. However, we point out that the radiatively induced annihilat…
We consider possible leptonic three-body decays of spin-1/2, charge-asymmetric dark matter. Assuming a general Dirac structure for the four-fermion contact interactions of interest, we study the cosmic-ray electron and positron spectra and show that good fits to the current data can be obtained for both charged-lepton-flavor-conserving and flavor-violating decay channels. We find that different choices for the Dirac structure of the underlying decay operator can be significantly compensated by different choices for the dark matter mass and lifetime. The decay modes we consider provide differin…
We explore the discovery potential of Higgs pair production at a 100 TeV collider via full leptonic mode. The same mode can be explored at the LHC when Higgs pair production is enhanced by new physics. We examine two types of fully leptonic final states and propose a partial reconstruction method. The reconstruction method can reconstruct some kinematic observables. It is found that the $m_{T2}$ variable determined by this reconstruction method and the reconstructed visible Higgs mass are important and crucial to discriminate the signal and background events. It is also noticed that a new vari…
We study two CP sensitive triple-product asymmetries for neutralino production e+e- \to\tildeχ^0_i \tildeχ^0_j and the subsequent leptonic two-body decay \tildeχ^0_i \to \tilde l l, \tilde l \to \tildeχ^0_1 l, for ł= e,μ,τ. We calculate the asymmetries, cross sections and branching ratios in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters μand M_1. We present numerical results for the asymmetries to be expected at a linear electron-positron collider in the 500 GeV range. The asymmetries can go up to 25 %. We estimate the event rates which are necessary to observe the asymmetr…
Particles with TeV mass and strong self-interactions generically have the right annihilation cross section to explain an observed excess of cosmic electrons and positrons if the end-product of the annihilation is charged leptons. We present an explicit model of strongly-coupled TeV-scale dark matter whose relic abundance related to the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the observed universe. The B - L asymmetry of the standard model is transfered to the dark sector by an operator carrying standard model lepton number. Lepton number violation naturally induces dark matter particle-antiparticle osc…
We perform a combined analysis of the recent AMS-02 data on electrons, positrons, electrons plus positrons and positron fraction, in a self-consistent framework where we realize a theoretical modeling of all the astrophysical components that can contribute to the observed fluxes in the whole energy range. The primary electron contribution is modeled through the sum of an average flux from distant sources and the fluxes from the local supernova remnants in the Green catalog. The secondary electron and positron fluxes originate from interactions on the interstellar medium of primary cosmic rays,…
We discuss challenges to a dark matter annihilation interpretation of the excess positron fraction in the cosmic rays observed by the PAMELA, Fermi-LAT and AMS-02 collaborations. The spectra of positrons from annihilations into the leptonic two-body final states like $τ^+ τ^-$ or $μ^+ μ^-$, fit well the AMS-02 data for the positron ratio and the electron flux. Furthermore, we discuss the hadronic annihilation channels $b \bar{b}$ and $W^+ W^-$. However, this interpretation requires a very large annihilation cross section especially for the hadronic channels, conflicting with the unitarity uppe…
Unexpected features in the energy spectra of cosmic rays electrons and positrons have been recently observed by PAMELA and Fermi-LAT satellite experiments, opening to the exciting possibility of an indirect manifestation of new physics. A TeV-scale fourth lepton family is a natural extension of the Standard Model leptonic sector (also linked to the hierarchy problem in Minimal Walking Technicolor models). The heavy Majorana neutrino of this setup mixes with Standard Model charged leptons through a weak charged current interaction. Here, we first study analytically the energy spectrum of the el…
An extended Higgs sector may allow for new scalar particles well below the weak scale. In this work, we present a detailed study of a light scalar $S$ with enhanced coupling to leptons, which could be responsible for the existing discrepancy between experimental and theoretical determinations of the muon anomalous magnetic moment. We present an ultraviolet completion of this model in terms of the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and an additional scalar singlet. We then analyze a plethora of experimental constraints on the universal low energy model, and this UV completion, along with t…
We perform a detailed quantitative analysis of the recent AMS-02 electron and positron data. We investigate the interplay between the emission from primary astrophysical sources, namely Supernova Remnants and Pulsar Wind Nebulae, and the contribution from a dark matter annihilation or decay signal. Our aim is to assess the information that can be derived on dark matter properties when both dark matter and primary astrophysical sources are assumed to jointly contribute to the leptonic observables measured by the AMS-02 experiment. We investigate both the possibility to set robust constraints on…
