In this paper, we consider inner automorphisms that leave invariant fixed subspaces of real and complex Clifford algebras -- subspaces of fixed grades and subspaces determined by the reversion and the grade involution. We present groups of elements that define such inner automorphisms and study their properties. Some of these Lie groups can be interpreted as generalizations of Clifford, Lipschitz, and spin groups. We study the corresponding Lie algebras. Some of the results can be reformulated for the case of more general algebras -- graded central simple algebras or graded central simple algebras with involution.
Double coverings of the orthogonal groups of the real and complex spaces are considered. The relation between discrete transformations of these spaces and fundamental automorphisms of Clifford algebras is established, where an isomorphism between a finite group of the discrete transformations and an automorphism group of the Clifford algebras plays a central role. The complete classification of Dabrowski groups depending upon signatures of the spaces is given. Two types of Dabrowski quotient groups are introduced in case of odd-dimensional spaces. Application potentialities of the introduced q…
An algebraic description of basic discrete symmetries (space reversal P, time reversal T and their combination PT) is studied. Discrete subgroups of orthogonal groups of multidimensional spaces over the fields of real and complex numbers are considered in terms of fundamental automorphisms of Clifford algebras. In accordance with a division ring structure, a complete classification of automorphisms groups is established for the Clifford algebras over the field of real numbers. The correspondence between eight double coverings (Dabrowski groups) of the orthogonal group and eight types of the re…
A signature epsilon=(p,q) dependent transposition anti-involution T of real Clifford algebras Cl_{p,q} for non-degenerate quadratic forms was introduced in [arXiv.1005.3554v1]. In [arXiv.1005.3558v1] we showed that, depending on the value of (p-q) mod 8, the map T gives rise to transposition, complex Hermitian, or quaternionic Hermitian conjugation of representation matrices in spinor representation. The resulting scalar product is in general different from the two known standard scalar products [Lounesto, Clifford algebras and Spinors 2001]. We provide a full signature (p,q) dependent classif…
We prove that if $A$ is a regular graded skew Clifford algebra and is a twist of a regular graded Clifford algebra $B$ by an automorphism, then the subalgebra of $A$ generated by a certain normalizing sequence of homogeneous degree-two elements is a twist of a polynomial ring by an automorphism, and is a skew polynomial ring. We also present an example that demonstrates that this can fail when $A$ is not a twist of $B$.
We first review the definition of the angle between subspaces and how it is computed using matrix algebra. Then we introduce the Grassmann and Clifford algebra description of subspaces. The geometric product of two subspaces yields the full relative angular information in an explicit manner. We explain and interpret the result of the geometric product of subspaces gaining thus full practical access to the relative orientation information.
Clifford theory relates the representation theory of finite groups to those of a fixed normal subgroup by means of induction and restriction, which is an adjoint pair of functors. We generalize this result to the situation of a Krull-Schmidt category on which a finite group acts as automorphisms. This then provides the orbit category introduced by Cibils and Marcos, and studied intensively by Keller in the context of cluster algebras, and by Asashiba in the context of Galois covering functors. We formulate and prove Clifford's theorem for Krull-Schmidt orbit categories with respect to a finite…
Viewing the complex Clifford algebra $C(V)$ of a real inner product space $V$ as a superalgebra, we offer several proofs of the fact that if $W$ is a subspace of the complexification of $V$ then the supercommutant of the Clifford algebra $C(W)$ is precisely the Clifford algebra $C(W^{\perp})$.
Let $V$ be a real inner product space and $C[V]$ its ${\rm C}^*$ Clifford algebra. We prove that if $Z$ is a subspace of $V$ then $C[Z^{\perp}]$ coincides with the supercommutant of $C[Z]$ in $C[V]$.
In the present paper, we determine the group of automorphisms of pseudo $H$-type Lie algebras, which are two-step nilpotent Lie algebras closely related to the Clifford algebras $\Cl(\mathbb R^{r,s})$.
In this article we study graded Clifford algebras with a gradation preserving action of automorphisms given by $H_p$, the Heisenberg group of order $p^3$ with $p$ prime. After reviewing results in dimensions 3 and 4, we will determine the graded Clifford algebras that are AS-regular algebras of global dimension 5 and generalize certain results to arbitrary dimension $p$. More specifically, we prove that there is a nice correspondence between $\mathbb{P}^1_{\mathbb{F}_p}$ and the algebras isomorphic to the quantum space $\mathbb{C}_{-1}[x_0,\ldots,x_{p-1}]$.
Albuquerque and Majid have shown how to view Clifford algebras $\cl_{p,q}$ as twisted group rings whereas Chernov has observed that Clifford algebras can be viewed as images of group algebras of certain 2-groups modulo an ideal generated by a nontrivial central idempotent. Ablamowicz and Fauser have introduced a special transposition anti-automorphism of $\cl_{p,q}$, which they called a "transposition", which reduces to reversion in algebras $\cl_{p,0}$ and to conjugation in algebras $\cl_{0,q}$. The purpose of this paper is to bring these concepts together in an attempt to investigate how the…
This paper concentrates on the homogeneous (conformal) model of Euclidean space (Horosphere) with subspaces that intuitively correspond to Euclidean geometric objects in three dimensions. Mathematical details of the construction and (useful) parametrizations of the 3D Euclidean object models are explicitly demonstrated in order to show how 3D Euclidean information on positions, orientations and radii can be extracted.
We study central simple algebras in various ways, focusing on the role of $p$-central subspaces. The first part of my thesis is dedicated to the study of Clifford algebras. The standard Clifford algebra of a given form is the generic associative algebra containing a $p$-central subspace whose exponentiation form is equal to the given form. There is an old question as for whether these algebras have representations of finite rank over the center, and jointly with Daniel Krashen and Max Lieblich we managed to provide a positive answer. Different generalizations of the structure of the Clifford a…
Let $K$ be a field of characteristic different from 2 and let $C$ be an octonion algebra over $K$. We show that there is a seven-dimensional subspace of $7\times 7$ skew-symmetric matrices over $K$ which is invariant under the automorphism group of $C$. This subspace consists of elements of rank 6 when $C$ is a division algebra, and elements of rank 4 and 6 when $C$ is a split algebra. In the latter case, the automorphism group is the exceptional group $G_2(K)$.
By using a lattice characterization of continuous projections defined on a topological vector space E arising from a dual pair, we determine the automorphism group of their orthomodular poset Proj(E) by means of automorphisms and anti-automorphisms of the lattice L of all closed subspaces of E. A connection between the automorphism group of the ring of all continuous linear mappings defined on E and the automorphism group of the orthoposet Proj(E) is established.
Each matrix A in GL_n(Z) naturally defines an automorphism f of the free r-step nilpotent Lie algebra on n generators. We study the relationship between the matrix A and the eigenvalues and rational invariant subspaces for f. We give applications to the study of Anosov automorphisms.

In this paper, we make the case that Clifford algebra is the natural framework for root systems and reflection groups, as well as related groups such as the conformal and modular groups: The metric that exists on these spaces can always be used to construct the corresponding Clifford algebra. Via the Cartan-Dieudonné theorem all the transformations of interest can be written as products of reflections and thus via `sandwiching' with Clifford algebra multivectors. These multivector groups can be used to perform concrete calculations in different groups, e.g. the various types of polyhedral grou…
Given an automorphism and an anti-automorphism of a semigroup of a Geometric Algebra, then for each element of the semigroup a (generalized) projection operator exists that is defined on the entire Geometric Algebra. A single fundamental theorem holds for all (generalized) projection operators. This theorem makes previous projection operator formulas equivalent to each other. The class of generalized projection operators includes the familiar subspace projection operation by implementing the automorphism `grade involution' and the anti-automorphism `inverse' on the semigroup of invertible vers…
We introduce a family of Cauchy integral formulas for slice and slice regular functions on a real associative *-algebra. For each suitable choice of a real vector subspace of the algebra, a different formula is given, in which the domains of integration are subsets of the subspace. In particular, in the quaternionic case, we get a volume Cauchy formula. In the Clifford algebra case, the choice of the paravector subspace R^(n+1) gives a volume Cauchy formula for slice monogenic functions.
Suppose that a finite group $G$ admits a Frobenius group of automorphisms $FH$ with kernel $F$ and complement $H$ such that the fixed-point subgroup of $F$ is trivial: $C_G(F)=1$. In this situation various properties of $G$ are shown to be close to the corresponding properties of $C_G(H)$. By using Clifford's theorem it is proved that the order $|G|$ is bounded in terms of $|H|$ and $|C_G(H)|$, the rank of $G$ is bounded in terms of $|H|$ and the rank of $C_G(H)$, and that $G$ is nilpotent if $C_G(H)$ is nilpotent. Lie ring methods are used for bounding the exponent and the nilpotency class of…
