Transport of charge and valley degrees of freedom coupled to order-parameter dynamics in magnetic Weyl semimetals is studied in the framework of nonequilibrium thermodynamics. In addition to the established valley-related transport anomalies that are rooted in band-structure topology, we construct dissipative couplings between the three dynamic constituents of the system driven out of equilibrium by electromagnetic perturbations. We show how the valley degree of freedom mediates an effective coupling between the charge and magnetic sectors of the system, through a combination of the chiral anomaly, on the electric side, and the Onsager-paired valley torque and pumping, on the magnetic side. This work compliments previous studies of magnetic Weyl semimetals by a more systematic analysis of collective dissipation. We discuss several concrete examples of the valley-mediated current-driven magnetic instabilities and charge pumping, and extend the theory to the antiferromagnetic case.
Multi-band touchings such as 3-band, 6-band and 8-band touchings together with the emergence of high pseudospin fermions were predicted recently at high-symmetry points in three-dimensional space. In this paper, we propose a simple cubic model whose unit cell contains three atoms. There are 6 bands in the system due to the spin degrees of freedom. The 4-band and 2-band touchings are realized at high-symmetry points, where we derive low-energy theories, demonstrating the emergence of pseudospin-3/2 fermions and Weyl fermions, respectively. Away from the high-symmetry points, we find critical We…
We propose a two-dimensional Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) type interference experiment for Weyl fermions in graphene and 3D topological insulators. Since Weyl fermions exhibit linear dispersion, similar to photons in vacuum, they can be used to obtain the HOM interference intensity pattern as a function of the delay time between two Weyl fermions. We show that while the Coulomb interaction leads to a significant change in the angle dependence of the tunneling of two identical Weyl fermions incident from opposite sides of a potential barrier, it does not affect the HOM interference pattern, in contrast…
In the fermionic systems with topologically stable Fermi points the emergent two - component Weyl fermions appear. We propose the topological classification of these fermions based on the two invariants composed of the two - component Green function. We define these invariants using Wigner - Weyl formalism also in case of essentially non - homogeneous systems. In the case when values of these invariants are minimal ($\pm 1$) we deal with emergent relativistic symmetry. The emergent gravity appears, and our classification of Weyl fermions gives rise to the classification of vierbein. Transforma…
We identify a Weyl semimetal state in an inversion breaking, stoichiometric compound strontium silicide, SrSi$_2$, with many new and novel properties that are distinct from the TaAs family. We theoretically show that SrSi$_2$ is a Weyl semimetal even without spin-orbit coupling and that, after the inclusion of spin-orbit coupling, two Weyl fermions stick together forming an exotic double Weyl fermion with quadratic dispersions and a higher chiral topological charge of 2. Moreover, we find that the Weyl nodes with opposite charges are located at different energies due to the absence of mirror s…
Using Floquet theory, we illustrate that Floquet Weyl fermions can be created in circularly-polarised-light-irradiated three-dimensional stacked graphene systems. One or two semi-Dirac points can be formed due to overlapping of Floquet sub-bands. Each pair of Weyl points have a two-component semi-Dirac point parent, instead of a four-component Dirac point parent. Decreasing the light frequency will make the Weyl points move in the momentum space, and the Weyl points can approach to the Dirac points when the frequency becomes very small. The frequency-amplitude phase diagram is worked out. It i…
Quantum oscillations of response functions in high magnetic fields tend to reveal some of the most interesting properties of metals. In particular, the oscillation phase shift is sensitive to topological band features, thereby helping to identify the presence of Weyl fermions. In this work we predict characteristic parameter dependence of the phase shift for Weyl fermions with tilted and overtilted dispersion (type I and type II Weyl fermions) and an arbitrary topological charge (multi-Weyl fermions). For type-II Weyl fermions our calculations capture the case of magnetic breakthrough between …
Thus far, a detection of the Dirac or Weyl fermions in topological semimetals remains often elusive, since in these materials conventional charge carriers exist as well. Here, measuring a field-induced length change of the prototype Weyl semimetal TaAs at low temperatures, we find that its $c$-axis magnetostriction amounts to relatively large values whereas the $a$-axis magnetostriction exhibits strong variations with changing the orientation of the applied magnetic field. It is discovered that at magnetic fields above the ultra-quantum limit, the magnetostriction of TaAs contains a linear-in-…
We report the electrical transport properties for Weyl semimetal TaAs in an intense magnetic field. Series of anomalies occur in the longitudinal magnetoresistance and Hall signals at ultra-low temperatures when the Weyl electrons are confined into the lowest Landau level. These strongly temperature-dependent anomalies are ascribed to the electron-hole pairing instability. Our measurements show that the Weyl semimetal TaAs in the ultraquantum regime provides a good platform for studying electron-electron interaction in topological nontrivial semimetals.
A Weyl semimetal has Weyl nodes that always come in pairs with opposite chiralities. Notably, different ways of connection between nodes are possible and would lead to distinct topologies. Here we identify their differences in many respects from two proposed models with different vorticities. One prominent feature is the behaviour of zeroth Landau levels (LLs) under magnetic field. We demonstrate that the magnetic tunnelling does not always expel LLs from zero energy because the number of zero-energy modes is linked to the vorticity of the Weyl nodes, instead of the chirality. Other respects i…
Carbon allotropes such as diamond, nano-tube, Fullerene, and Graphene, have unique lattice symmetries of crystal lattice, but these are topologically trivial. We have proposed a topologically-nontrivial allotrope, named Hopfene, which has three-dimensional (3D) arrays of Hopf-links to bind 2D Graphene sheets both vertically and horizontally. Here, we describe the electronic structures of Hopfene by simple tight-binding calculations. We confirmed the original Dirac points of 2D Graphene were topologically protected upon the introduction of the Hopf links, and low-energy excitations are describe…
We report theoretical and experimental discovery of Lorentz-violating Weyl fermion semimetal type-II state in the LaAlGe class of materials. Previously type-II Weyl state was predicted in WTe2 materials which remains unrealized in surface experiments. We show theoretically and experimentally that LaAlGe class of materials are the robust platforms for the study of type-II Weyl physics.
The type-II Weyl/Dirac fermions are a generalization of conventional or type-I Weyl/Dirac fermions, whose conic spectrum is tilted such that the Fermi surface becomes lines in two dimensions, and surface in three dimensions rather than discrete points of the conventional Weyl/Dirac fermions. The mass-independent renormalization group calculations show that the tilting parameter decreases monotonically with respect to the length scale, which leads to a transition from two dimensional type-II Weyl/Dirac fermions to the type-I ones. Because of the non-trivial Fermi surface, a photon gains a finit…
By using first-principles calculations, we propose that WC-type ZrTe is a new type of topological semimetal (TSM). It has six pairs of chiral Weyl nodes in its first Brillouin zone, but it is distinguished from other existing TSMs by having additional two paris of massless fermions with triply degenerate nodal points as proposed in the isostructural compounds TaN and NbN. The mirror symmetry, three-fold rotational symmetry and time-reversal symmetry require all of the Weyl nodes to have the same velocity vectors and locate at the same energy level. The Fermi arcs on different surfaces are show…
The outstanding electronic properties of relativistic-like fermions have been extensively studied in solid state systems with isotropic linear dispersions such as graphene. Here, we show that 2D and 3D Dirac-Weyl (DW) materials exhibiting tilted energy dispersions could induce drastically different transport phenomena, compared to the non-tilted case. Indeed, the Klein tunneling of DW fermions of opposite chiralities is predicted to appear along two separated oblique directions. In addition, valley filtering and beam splitting effects are easily tailored by dopant engineering techniques while …
We discuss first-principles topological electronic structure of noncentrosymmetric SrSi$_2$ materials class based on the hybrid exchange-correlation functional. Topological phase diagram of SrSi$_2$ is mapped out as a function of the lattice constant with focus on the semimetal order. A tunable double-Weyl Fermion state in Sr$_{1-x}$Ca$_{x}$Si$_2$ and Sr$_{1-x}$Ba$_{x}$Si$_2$ alloys is identified. Ca doping in SrSi$_2$ is shown to yield a double-Weyl semimetal with a large Fermi arc length, while Ba doping leads to a transition from the topological semimetal to a gapped insulator state. Our st…
We study the effects of disorder and Coulomb interactions on the physics of three-dimensional type-I Weyl fermions with tilted and anisotropic dispersions in a renormalization group approach. To lowest non-trivial loop order we show that the tendency of the Coulomb interactions to restore the symmetry of the dispersion in the semimetallic region of the phase diagram dominates the stabilization of the tilt and anisotropy favored by weak disorder. We argue that the topology of the renormalization flow of the disorder and Coulomb couplings is essentially determined by gauge invariance, so that th…
Weyl semimetal is a new phase of matter that provides the first solid state realization of chiral Weyl fermions. Most of its unique physics is a consequence of chiral anomaly, namely nonconservation of the number of particles of a given chirality. Mathematically, this is expressed in the appearance of the so called $θ$-term in the action of the electromagnetic field, when the Weyl fermions are integrated out. Recently, however, it has been suggested that the analogy between the chiral fermions of quantum field theory with unbounded linear dispersion, and their solid state realization with a di…
The Weyl semimetal is characterized by three-dimensional linear band touching points called Weyl nodes. These nodes come in pairs with opposite chiralities. We show that the coupling of circularly polarized photons with these chiral electrons generates a Hall conductivity without any applied magnetic field in the plane orthogonal to the light propagation. This phenomenon comes about because with all three Pauli matrices exhausted to form the three-dimensional linear dispersion, the Weyl nodes cannot be gapped. Rather, the net influence of chiral photons is to shift the positions of the Weyl no…
The first Weyl semimetal was recently discovered in the NbP class of compounds. Although the topology of these novel materials has been identified, the surface properties are not yet fully understood. By means of scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we find that NbPs (001) surface hosts a pair of Dirac cones protected by mirror symmetry. Through our high resolution spectroscopic measurements, we resolve the quantum interference patterns arising from these novel Dirac fermions, and reveal their electronic structure, including the linear dispersions. Our data, in agreement with our theoretical calcu…
Majorana bound states exist inside a core of half-quantum vortex in spin-triplet superconductors. Despite intense efforts, they have not been discovered in any spin-triplet superconductor candidate materials. After the success of topological insulator, another route to achieve Majorana fermions has been suggested: heterostructures of s-wave superconductors and topological insulator or semimetal with strong spin-orbit coupling provide an effective spinless $p+ip$ pairing which supports Majorana bound states in a single vortex. This theoretical observation has stimulated both experimental and th…
Lorentz-violating type-II Weyl fermions, which were missed in Weyl's prediction of nowadays classified type-I Weyl fermions in quantum field theory, have recently been proposed in condensed matter systems. The semimetals hosting type-II Weyl fermions offer a rare platform for realizing many exotic physical phenomena that are different from type-I Weyl systems. Here we construct the acoustic version of type-II Weyl Hamiltonian by stacking one-dimensional dimerized chains of acoustic resonators. This acoustic type-II Weyl system exhibits distinct features in finite density of states and unique t…
It was shown recently that Weyl fermions in a superconducting vortex lattice can condense into Landau levels. Here we study the chiral magnetic effect in the lowest Landau level: The appearance of an equilibrium current $I$ along the lines of magnetic flux $Φ$, due to an imbalance between Weyl fermions of opposite chirality. A universal contribution $dI/dΦ=(e/h)^2μ$ (at equilibrium chemical potential $μ$ relative to the Weyl point) appears when quasiparticles of one of the two chiralities are confined in vortex cores. The confined states are charge-neutral Majorana fermions.
We reconsider the problem of the anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnetic SrRuO$_3$, incorporating insights from the recently developed theory of Weyl semimetals. We demonstrate that SrRuO$_3$ possesses a large number of Weyl nodes, separated in momentum space, in its bandstructure. While the nodes normally do not coincide with the Fermi energy, unless the material is doped, we show that even the nodes inside the Fermi sea have a significant effect on the physical properties of the material. In particular, we show that the common belief that (non-quantized part of) the intrinsic anomalous Hall c…
Due to the many unique transport properties of Weyl semimetals, they are promising materials for modern electronics. We investigate the electrons in the strong coupling approximation near Weyl points based on their representation as massless Weyl fermions. We have constructed a new fluid model based on the many-particle quantum hydrodynamics method to describe the behavior of electrons gas with different chirality near Weyl points in the low-energy limit in the external electromagnetic fields, based on the many-particle Weyl equation and many-particle wave function. The derived system of equat…
Quantum simulation aims to simulate a quantum system using a controble laboratory system that underline the same mathematical model. Cavity QED lattice system is that prescribe system to simulate the relativistic quantum effect. We quantum simulate the Dirac fermion mode, Majorana fermion mode and Majorana-Weyl fermion mode and a crossover between them in cavity QED lattice. We also present the different analytical relations between the field operators for different mode excitations.
A Coulomb impurity placed in an undoped Weyl semimetal spontaneously surrounds itself with a cloud of condensed Weyl fermions. We find that the ground-state of this system exhibits an experimentally accessible Landau zero-charge effect: the fermion condensate completely screens out the impurity charge. In a narrow band gap semiconducor this effect manifests itself in the near universality of observable charge of a highly-charged recombination center.
Weyl fermions, which are fermions with definite chiralities, can give rise to anomalous breaking of the symmetry of the physical system which they are a part of. In their (3+1)-dimensional realizations in condensed matter systems, i.e., the so-called Weyl semimetals, this anomaly gives rise to topological electromagnetic response of magnetic fluctuations, which takes the form of non-local interaction between magnetic fluctuations and electromagnetic fields. We study the physical consequences of this non-local interaction, including electric field assisted magnetization dynamics, an extra gaple…
Based on $k\cdot p$ analysis and realistic tight-binding calculations, we find that time-reversal-breaking Weyl semimetals can be realized in magnetically-doped (Mn, Eu, Cr etc.) Sn$_{1-x}$Pb$_x$(Te,Se) class of topological crystalline insulators. All the Weyl points are well separated in momentum space and possess nearly the same energy due to high crystalline symmetry. Moreover, both the Weyl points and Fermi arcs are highly tunable by varying Pb/Sn composition, pressure, magnetization, temperature, surface potential etc., opening up the possibility of manipulating Weyl points and rewiring t…
We point out that, contrary to an assertion by Chen, Bergman and Burkov [Phys. Rev. B 88, 125110 (2013)], the non-quantized part of the intrinsic anomalous Hall conductivity can indeed be expressed as a Fermi-surface property even when Weyl points are present in the bandstructure.
The Weyl semimetal phase is a recently discovered topological quantum state of matter characterized by the presence of topologically protected degeneracies near the Fermi level. These degeneracies are the source of exotic phenomena, including the realization of chiral Weyl fermions as quasiparticles in the bulk and the formation of Fermi arc states on the surfaces. Here, we demonstrate that these two key signatures show distinct evolutions with the bulk band topology by performing angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, supported by first-principle calculations, on transition-metal monophos…
The Fermi liquid has an emergent low-energy symmetry that corresponds to charge conservation at each momentum on the Ferm surface. Recently Else, Thorngren and Senthil (ETS) argued that the emergent symmetry had a specific t'Hooft anomaly. We give a simple derivation of the ETS anomaly using the chiral anomaly of Weyl fermions.
The recent discovery of a Weyl semimetal in TaAs offers the first Weyl fermion observed in nature and dramatically broadens the classification of topological phases. However, in TaAs it has proven challenging to study the rich transport phenomena arising from emergent Weyl fermions. The series Mo$_x$W$_{1-x}$Te$_2$ are inversion-breaking, layered, tunable semimetals already under study as a promising platform for new electronics and recently proposed to host Type II, or strongly Lorentz-violating, Weyl fermions. Here we report the discovery of a Weyl semimetal in Mo$_x$W$_{1-x}$Te$_2$ at $x = …
We propose that the noncentrosymmetric LiGaGe-type hexagonal $ABC$ crystal SrHgPb realizes a new type of topological semimetal that hosts both Dirac and Weyl points in momentum space. The symmetry-protected Dirac points arise due to a band inversion and are located on the sixfold rotation $z$-axis, whereas the six pairs of Weyl points related by sixfold symmetry are located on the perpendicular $k_z=0$ plane. By studying the electronic structure as a function of the buckling of the HgPb layer, which is the origin of inversion symmetry breaking, we establish that the coexistence of Dirac and We…
We show that the intensity of pumped states near Weyl point is different when pumped with left- and right-handed circular polarized light, which leads to a special circular dichroism (CD) in time-dependent angle resolved photoemission spectra (ARPES). We derive the expression for the CD of time-dependent ARPES, which is directly related to the chirality of Weyl fermions. Based on the above derivation, we further propose a method to determine the chirality for a given Weyl point from the CD of time-dependent ARPES. The corresponding CD spectra for TaAs has then been calculated from the first pr…
Dirac and Weyl nodal materials can host low-energy relativistic quasiparticles. Under strong magnetic fields, the topological properties of Dirac/Weyl materials can directly manifest through quantum Hall states. However, most Dirac/Weyl nodes generically exist in semimetals without exploitable bandgaps due to their accidental band-crossing origin. Here we report the first experimental observation of Weyl fermions in a semiconductor. Tellurene, the 2D form of tellurium, possesses chiral crystal structure which induces unconventional Weyl nodes with a hedgehog-like radial spin texture near the c…
A two-dimensional (2D) Weyl semimetal featuring a spin-polarized linear band dispersion and a nodal Fermi surface is a new topological phase of matter. It is a solid-state realization of Weyl fermions in an intrinsic 2D system. The nontrivial topology of 2D Weyl cones guarantees the existence of a new form of topologically protected boundary states, Fermi string edge states. In this work, we report the realization of a 2D Weyl semimetal in monolayer-thick epitaxial bismuthene grown on SnS(Se) substrate. The intrinsic band gap of bismuthene is eliminated by the space-inversion-symmetry-breaking…
We report on exotic response properties in 3D time-reversal invariant Weyl semimetals with mirror symmetry. Despite having a vanishing anomalous Hall coefficient, we find that the momentum-space quadrupole moment formed by four Weyl nodes determines the coefficient of a mixed \emph{electromagnetic charge-stress} response, in which momentum flows perpendicular to an applied electric field, and electric charge accumulates on certain types of lattice defects. This response is described by a mixed Chern-Simons-like term in 3 spatial dimensions, which couples a rank-2 gauge field to the usual elect…
A Weyl semimetal possesses spin-polarized band-crossings, called Weyl nodes, connected by topological surface arcs. The low-energy excitations near the crossing points behave the same as massless Weyl fermions, leading to exotic properties like chiral anomaly. To have the transport properties dominated by Weyl fermions, Weyl nodes need to locate nearly at the chemical potential and enclosed by pairs of individual Fermi surfaces with nonzero Fermi Chern numbers. Combining angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy and first-principles calculation, here we show that TaP is a Weyl semimetal with o…
When the right and the left handed Weyl points are separated in energy, they give rise to a non-dissipative charge current along the direction of a uniform applied magnetic field, even in the absence of an external electric field. This effect is known as the chiral magnetic effect and is a hallmark of the underlying chiral anomaly of the Weyl fermions. According to the linearized continuum theory of Weyl fermions, the induced current is proportional to the magnetic field strength and the energy separation with a universal coefficient $e^2/h^2$. By considering a generic tight binding model for …
We examine the magneto-optical response of chiral multifold fermions. Specifically, we show that they are ideal candidates for observing the Helical Magnetic Effect (HME) previously predicted for simple Weyl fermions. Unlike Weyl fermions, the HME is present in multifold fermions even in the simplest case where the low-energy dispersion is linear and spherically symmetric. In this ideal case, we derive an analytical expression for the HME and find it is proportional to the circular photogalvanic effect; for realistic parameters and accounting for the geometry of the setup, the HME photocurrent…
We perform a systematic study of the Zitterbewegung effect of fermions, which are described by a Gaussian wave with broken spatial-inversion symmetry in a three-dimensional low-energy Weyl semimetal. Our results show that the motion of fermions near the Weyl points is characterized by rectilinear motion and Zitterbewegung oscillation. The ZB oscillation is affected by the width of the Gaussian wave packet, the position of the Weyl node, and the chirality and anisotropy of the fermions. By introducing a one-dimensional cosine potential, the new generated massless fermions have lower Fermi Veloc…
Weyl semimetals are conductors whose low-energy bulk excitations are Weyl fermions, whereas their surfaces possess metallic Fermi arc surface states. These Fermi arc surface states are protected by a topological invariant associated with the bulk electronic wavefunctions of the material. Recently, it has been shown that the TaAs and NbAs classes of materials harbor such a state of topological matter. We review the basic phenomena and experimental history of the discovery of the first Weyl semimetals, starting with the observation of topological Fermi arcs and Weyl nodes in TaAs and NbAs by ang…
Weyl fermions can be created in materials with both time reversal and inversion symmetry by applying a magnetic field, as evidenced by recent measurements of anomalous negative magnetoresistance. Here, we do a thorough analysis of the Weyl points in these materials: by enforcing crystal symmetries, we classify the location and monopole charges of Weyl points created by fields aligned with high-symmetry axes. The analysis applies generally to materials with band inversion in the $T_d$, $D_{4h}$ and $D_{6h}$ point groups. For the $T_d$ point group, we find that Weyl nodes persist for all directi…
Fermion-induced quantum critical points (FIQCPs) were recently discovered at the putatively first-order transitions between two-dimensional (2D) Dirac semimetals and the Kekule valence bond solids on the honeycomb lattice by sign-free quantum Monte Carlo simulations [Nature Communications 8, 314, (2017)]. Here, we investigate possible FIQCP in 3D topological Weyl semimetals at a $Z_3$ symmetry-breaking transition that is putatively first-order according to the Landau criterion. We construct a lattice model featuring 3D double-Weyl fermions (monopole charges $\pm$2) and we show that $Z_3$ nodal…
Disorder such as impurities and dislocations in Weyl semimetals (SMs) drives a quantum critical point (QCP) where the density of states at the Weyl point gains a non-zero value. Near the QCP, the asymptotic low energy singularities of physical quantities are controlled by the critical exponents $ν$ and $z$. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate, which originates from the hyperfine coupling between a nuclear spin and long-range orbital currents in Weyl fermion systems, shows intriguing critical behavior. Based on the self-consistent Born approximation for impurities, we study the nuclear spi…
Weyl semimetal with Weyl fermions at Fermi energy is one of the topological materials, and is a condensed-matter realization of the relativistic fermions. However, there are several crucial differences such as the shift of Fermi energy, which can hinder the expected interesting physics. Chiral anomaly is a representative nontrivial phenomenon associated with Weyl fermions, which dictates the transfer of fermions between the Weyl fermions with opposite chirality; it is manifested as the negative magnetoresistance. Here we demonstrate that the magnetoresistance is robust against the deviation fr…
A Coulomb impurity placed in an undoped Weyl semimetal spontaneously surrounds itself with a cloud of condensed Weyl fermions. We study this system within the Thomas-Fermi approximation. We find that the ground-state of the system is electrically neutral and exhibits an experimentally accessible Landau zero-charge effect: the impurity charge is screened out at any finite distance in the limit of vanishing impurity size. Specifically, we show how in this limit the Thomas-Fermi equation for the electrostatic potential transforms into the Gell-Mann-Low equation for the charge.
Owing to comparably strong spin-orbit coupling and Hubbard interaction, iridium based 227 pyrochlore oxides harbor a rich confluence of competing magnetic orders and emergent multipolar Weyl quasiparticles. Here we show that this family of materials is predominantly susceptible toward the nucleation of electronic noncoplanar all-in all-out (AIAO) and three-in one-out (3I1O) orders, respectively transforming under the singlet $A_{2u}$ and triplet $T_{1u}$ representations, supporting octupolar and dipolar Weyl fermions, and favored by strong on-site Hubbard and nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic int…
We present two band models for free fermion with charge conjugation symmetry in three dimensions. Without time reversal symmetry (TRS), the weak pairing gapless $A$-phase is a Majorana fermion $p_x+ip_y$ wave FFLO state while the strong pairing gapped $B$-phase belongs to topologically trivial Class $D$. With TRS, there is a Majorana fermion $B$-phase belonging to Class $DIII$ with a non-zero Hopf invariant. The TRS $A$-phase is also a Majorana fermion FFLO state with TRS. The surface states of the TRS $B$-phase are either a valley-momentum locked Majorana-Dirac cone or a linear-quadratic mixe…
A Weyl semimetal is a new state of matter that host Weyl fermions as quasiparticle excitations. The Weyl fermions at zero energy correspond to points of bulk band degeneracy, Weyl nodes, which are separated in momentum space and are connected only through the crystal's boundary by an exotic Fermi arc surface state. We experimentally measure the spin polarization of the Fermi arcs in the first experimentally discovered Weyl semimetal TaAs. Our spin data, for the first time, reveal that the Fermi arcs' spin polarization magnitude is as large as 80% and possesses a spin texture that is completely…
We study the fate of double-Weyl fermions in three-dimensional systems in the presence of long-range Coulomb interactions. By employing the momentum-shell renormalization group approach, we find that the fixed point of noninteracting double-Weyl fermions is unstable against Coulomb interactions and flows to a nontrivial stable fixed point with anisotropic screening effect. Moreover, experimentally measurable quantities such as specific heat obtain unusual logarithmic corrections. We also discuss implications of our results to three-dimensional materials HgCr2Se4 and SrSi2, candidate materials …
The family of binary compounds including TaAs, TaP, NbAs, and NbP was recently discovered as the first realization of Weyl semimetals. In order to develop a comprehensive description of the charge carriers in these Weyl semimetals, we performed systematic electronic structure calculations which reveal the nature of Fermi surfaces and their complex interconnectivity in TaAs, TaP, NbAs, and NbP. Our work report the first comparative and comprehensive study of Fermi surface topology and band structure details of all known members of the Weyl semimetal family and provide the necessary building blo…
