We study the semileptonic decay of the $B_c (0^-)$ to charmonia through the bottom-to-charm-quark electroweak current in the framework of basis light-front quantization. Explicitly, we calculate the weak transition form factors for processes of $B_c$ decaying into $η_c$ or $J/ψ$ based on the corresponding initial and final valence light-front wave functions both obtained from the basis light-front quantization. We also present the corresponding differential decay width and branching ratios, as well as the branching ratios for decays into the $η_c'$ and the $ψ'$. We observe unphysical frame dependence of the calculated form factors, which is attributed to only including the valence light-front wave functions. Based on the analysis of current component, we propose a preferred set of frames to calculate these form factors.
We consider tree-level corrections to hypercharge changing semileptonic decays of certain baryons induced by a minimal supersymmetric standard model with explicitly broken R-parity via $L$-violation. This study leads to a new set of constraints on the products of couplings arising from the LQd$^c$ operator of the superpotential.
Inspired by the newly observed $D^{(*)}(3000)$, and $D_{sJ}(3040)$ states, in this work we study the production of $D^{(*)}(3000)$, $D_{sJ}(3040)$ and their partners through the semileptonic decays of $B_{(s)}$ mesons, where the light-front Quark model is applied to the whole calculation. Our numerical results indicate that the $B_{(s)}$ semileptonic decays into the $2P$ states of the charmed or charmed-strange meson family have considerable branching ratios, which shows that these semileptonic decays can be accessible at future experiments, especially LHCb and the forthcoming Belle II.
We present the analysis of exclusive $0^{-}$$\to$$0^{-}$ semileptonic heavy meson decays using the constituent quark model based on the light-front quantization. Our model is constrained by the variational principle for the well-known linear plus Coulomb interaction motivated by QCD. Our method of analytic continuation to obtain the weak form factors avoids the difficulty associated with the contribution from the nonvalence quark-antiquark pair creation. Our numerical results for the heavy-to-heavy and heavy-to-light meson decays are in a good agreement with the available experimental data and…
A brief review of the theoretical description of exclusive and inclusive semileptonic charm decays is given. In light of the recent experimental puzzles in leptonic charm decays, the complementary role of semileptonic modes is emphasized. The relevance of semileptonic charm decay studies to the precise determination of the Vub CKM matrix element from semileptonic B decays is also discussed. Some interesting and important theoretical challenges are mentioned.
A generalization of the parton-like formula is used for the first time to find the differential distributions in the inclusive semileptonic weak decays of the B meson. The main features of this new approach are the treatment of the b-quark as an on-mass-shell particle and the inclusion of the effects arising from the b-quark transverse motion in the B-meson. Using the b-quark light-front (LF) distribution function related to the equal time momentum wave function taken from the ACM model we compute the electron energy spectra and the total semileptonic widths of the B meson. We find an impressi…
This note emphasizes that due to isospin violation the two central states in the octet mix, and this mixing can be measured in semileptonic decays, in particular with an accurate determination of the sigma plus semileptonic branching ratio.
We make predictions for the exclusive semileptonic and the non-leptonic decay widths of the B_c meson. We evaluate the B_c semileptonic form factors for different decay channels in a relativistic model, and use factorization to obtain the non-leptonic decay widths.
We present a detailed analysis of exclusive semileptonic decays of Bc meson involving pseudoscalar and vector mesons in the BSW framework, by investigating the effects of the flavor dependence on the average transverse quark momentum inside a meson. Branching ratios of exclusive semileptonic decays of Bc meson are predicted.
Consequences of the interference between external and internal spectator amplitudes for the lifetimes and semileptonic decay fractions of $B^0$ and $B^+$ mesons are discussed. Extrapolating from the constructive interference observed in 11 exclusive hadronic $B$ decays we find an inclusive semileptonic decay fraction of $(11.2 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.7)$\%, significantly closer to the experimental results than previous predictions.
We review semi-inclusive charmless B decays, focussing on threshold logarithmic resumming and on universality of QCD dynamics in radiative and semileptonic decays.
Some emerging difficulties in the theoretical description of exclusive semileptonic $\bar B$ decays are discussed in the context of the quark model. While there are no unambiguous problems at this time, I discuss physics beyond the valence quark model which should eventually be probed by precision measurements of $\bar B$ semileptonic decays.
We summarize the status of semileptonic and leptonic $B$ decays, including $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ exclusive and inclusive determinations, decays to excited states of the charm meson spectrum and decays into $τ$ leptons.
There exist heavy tetraquark states $QQ \bar q \bar q$ in the heavy quark limit. These states are stable with respect to strong interactions and hence must decay weakly. It is shown that the semileptonic decay depends on a single Isgur--Wise form factor, which can be expressed in term of the Isgur--Wise form factors which govern the semileptonic decays of the $Qqq$ and $QQq$ baryons.
The one-loop supersymmetric QCD corrections to the top quark semileptonic decays $t\to b \bar{l} {ν_l}$ are considered. The corrections are found to reduce the decay width. In the still acceptable parameter space the corrections to the percentage change in top quark semileptonic decay width can reach the level of -0.7%.
The order alpha_s^2 contribution to the inclusive semileptonic decay width of a b quark Γ(b -> X_u e \barν_e) is calculated analytically for zero mass u quarks.
It is shown that the absolute rate of the semileptonic decays of the $Ξ_c$ baryons can be as much as two times higher than the semileptonic decay rate of $Λ_c$ due to the Pauli interference of the strange quark. This interference effect is still larger in the semileptonic decay rate of $Ω_c$. An experimental measurement of the difference of these rates would thus provide an important piece of information on the spectator effects in decays of hadrons containing a heavy quark.
An explicit relativistic light-front quark model is presented which gives the momentum transfer dependent form factors of weak hadronic currents among heavy pseudoscalar and vector mesons in the whole accessible kinematic region $ 0\leq q^2 \leq q^2_{max} $. For the numerical investigations of the $ B \to D^* l ν_l $, $ B \to ρl ν_l $, $ D\to K^* l ν_l $ and $ D \to ρl ν_l $ semileptonic decays the equal time wave functions corresponding to the updated version of the ISGW model are adopted. Using the available experimental information on branching fractions $ BR(B \to D^* l ν_l) $ and $ BR(B \…
Exclusive semileptonic $B$ decays into excited charmed mesons are studied with QCD sum rules in the leading order of heavy quark effective theory. Two universal Isgur-Wise functions τand ζfor semileptonic B decays into four lowest lying excited $D$ mesons ($D_1$, $D_2^*$, $D'_0$, and $D'_1$) are determined. The decay rates and branching ratios for these processes are calculated.
We investigate the semileptonic and nonleptonic decays of $B_s$ mesons. We work within the context of nonrelativistic constituent quark models. We calculate the different form factors that parameterize the hadron matrix elements.
Using our relativistic constituent quark model we present results on the exclusive nonleptonic and semileptonic decays of the Bc-meson. The nonleptonic decays are studied in the framework of the factorization approximation. We calculate the branching ratios for a large set of exclusive nonleptonic and semileptonic decays of the Bc-meson and compare our results with the results of other models.
The recently measured semileptonic D_s decay rate can be used to constrain weak annihilation (WA) effects in semileptonic D and B decays. We revisit the theoretical predictions for inclusive semileptonic D_{(s)} decays using a variety of quark mass schemes. The most reliable results are obtained if the fits to B decay distributions are used to eliminate the charm quark mass dependence, without using any specific charm mass scheme. Our fit to the available data shows that WA is smaller than commonly assumed. There is no indication that the WA octet contribution (which is better constrained than…
Semileptonic decay of the $B_c$ meson is studied in the heavy quark limit. The six possible form factors for $B_c \rightarrow B_s (B^0),B_s^* (B^{*0})$ semileptonic decay are determined by two invariant functions. Only one of these functions contributes at zero recoil, where it is calculable to lowest order in an operator product expansion in terms of the meson decay constant $f_B$ and the $B_c$ wavefunction. A similar result is found for $B_c \rightarrow D^0,D^{*0}$ and for $B_c\rightarrowη_c,J/ψ$ semileptonic decay for a restricted kinematic region. Semileptonic $B_c$ decay provides a means …
I give a short overview of what has been done in radiative and semileptonic Kaon decays in Chiral Perturbation Theory. This includes for semileptonic decays the work which has been done to order $p^6$ including preliminary results of isospin breaking to that order in $K_{\ell3}$. For the radiative decays I mainly present some results from recent work concerning $K_{\ell3γ}$.
An analysis of charm mesons decaying semileptonically via Flavor Changing Neutral Currents is presented. We calculate the Wilson coefficients within the Standard Model. A window in the decay distribution, where physics beyond the Standard Model could be measured is identified. Exemplary, we study effects of leptoquark models.
We investigate the effects of R-parity violation on the semileptonic decays of B-meson in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with explicit R-parity violation and discuss its physical implications. We find that the semileptonic decays of B-meson can be largely affected by the R-parity violation.
The exclusive semileptonic decay Lambda_b -> Lambda_c + l nu_l is investigated including both radiative and first-order power corrections in the inverse heavy-quark mass, while the Isgur-Wise function is calculated within a light-front constituent quark model. It turns out that the dependence on the model parameters can be effectively constrained using recent lattice QCD results at low values of the recoil. Our final predictions for the exclusive semileptonic branching ratio, the longitudinal and transverse asymmetries, and the longitudinal to transverse decay ratio are: Br(Lambda_b -> Lambda_…
This paper studies the leading chiral corrections to heavy quark-diquark symmetry predictions for doubly heavy baryon semileptonic decay form factors. We derive the coupling between heavy diquarks and weak current in the limit of heavy quark-diquark symmetry, and construct the chiral Lagrangian for doubly heavy baryons coupled to weak current. We evaluate chiral corrections to doubly heavy baryon zero-recoil semileptonic decay for both unquenched and partially quenched QCD. This theory is used to derive chiral extrapolation expressions for measurements of form factors of doubly heavy baryon ze…
The form factors parameterizing the B_c semileptonic matrix elements can be related to a few invariant functions if the decoupling of the spin of the heavy quarks in B_c and in the mesons produced in the semileptonic decays is exploited. We compute the form factors as overlap integral of the meson wave-functions obtained using a QCD relativistic potential model, and give predictions for semileptonic and non-leptonic B_c decay modes. We also discuss possible experimental tests of the heavy quark spin symmetry in B_c decays.
B meson semileptonic decays are a crucial tool in our studies of the quark mixing parameters Vcb and Vub. The interplay between experimental and theoretical challenges to achieve precision in the determination of these fundamental parameters is discussed.
We present a brief discussion about expressions of decay widths of exclusive nonleptonic and semileptonic B decays at tree level including $l=0$ and $l=1$ mesons in final state. Our analysis is carried out assuming factorization hypothesis and using parametrizations of hadronic matrix elements given in WSB and ISGW quark models. Special interest is focused on dynamics of these processes and several important ratios between decay widths to determine form factors and decay constants are given.
This talk is a short review on the theoretical issues and uncertainties in the calculation of partial decay rates in inclusive B decays. The main emphasis is on charmless semileptonic decays, the B -> X(s) gamma photon spectrum, and the extraction of Vub using model-independent methods.
A brief update is given on recent developments in the theory of exclusive semileptonic charm decays. A check on analyticity arguments from the kaon system is reviewed. Recent results on form factor shape measurements are discussed.
We set up sum rules for heavy lambda decays in a full QCD calculation which in the heavy quark mass limit incorporates the symmetries of heavy quark effective theory. For the semileptonic $\La_c$ decay we obtain a reasonable agreement with experiment. For the $\La_b$ semileptonic decay we find at the zero recoil point a violation of the heavy quark symmetry of about 20%.
Pade-approximant methods are used to estimate the three-loop perturbative contributions to the inclusive semileptonic $b \to u$ decay rate. These improved estimates of the decay rate reduce the theoretical uncertainty in the extraction of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$ from the measured inclusive semileptonic branching ratio.
We calculate $B_{(s)}$, and $D_{(s)}$ to $K^*_0(1430)$ transition form factors, and study semileptonic decays of $B_{(s)}$ and $D_{(s)}\to K_0^*(1430) \bar{\ell}ν$ based on QCD sum rule. Measuring these semileptonic decays with high statistics will give valuable information on the nature of light scalar mesons.
We study the semileptonic decays of the lowest lying double heavy baryons using the relativistic three-quark model. We do not employ a heavy quark mass expansion but keep the masses of the heavy quarks and baryons finite. We calculate all relevant form factors and decay rates.
Consequences of the interference between spectator amplitudes for the lifetimes and semileptonic decay fractions of B^0 and B^+ mesons are discussed. Assuming duality and constructive interference between spectator amplitudes we are able to explain the low experimental value for the semileptonic decay fraction of $B$ mesons. Extracting these amplitudes from a fit to 11 exclusive hadronic B decay fractions we find a_1 = 1.05 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.10, a_2 =+0.227 +/ 0.012 +/- 0.022, an inclusive semileptonic decay fraction of (11.2 +/- 0.5 +/- 1.7), and a lifetime ratio tau(B^+) / tau(B^0) = 0.83 +/- 0…
We consider the isospin breaking corrections to charmless semileptonic decays of B mesons. Both, the recently measured branching ratios of exclusive decays by the CLEO Collaboration and the end-point reion of the inclusive lepton spectrum in form factor models, can be affected by these corrections. Isospin corrections can affect the determination of |V_ub| from exclusive semileptonic B decays at a level comparable to present statistical uncertainties.
We present a complete $O(α_s^2)$ correction to the differential width of the inclusive semileptonic decay $b\to clν_l$ at the kinematical point of vanishing invariant mass of the leptons, $q^2=0$. Together with the recently computed $O(α_s^2)$ correction at the upper boundary of the lepton invariant mass spectrum, this new information permits an estimate of the $O(α_s^2)$ effect in the total inclusive semileptonic decay width $b\to clν_l$. We argue that the non-BLM part of the $O(α_s^2)$ correction gives at most 1% correction to the inclusive semileptonic decay width $b\to clν_l$. This signifi…
The magnitude of the CKM matrix elements Vcb can be extracted from inclusive semileptonic B decays in a model independent way pioneered by Kolya Uraltsev and collaborators. I review here the present status and latest developments in this field.
We present a new charged Higgs search technique using the effects of scalar dynamics in semileptonic meson decay. Applying this method to a modest sample of B meson decays yields sensitivity to the high tan(beta) region well beyond existing charged Higgs searches. We present a new charged Higgs search technique using the effects of scalar dynamics in semileptonic meson decay. The sum rule for charmless inclusive semileptonic B-meson decays allows a theoretically clean and experimentally efficient determination of |V_{ub}|. The leading twist contribution to the sum rule is known in QCD. We compute higher twist corrections to the sum rule using the heavy quark effective theory.
If $R$-parity is broken and the photino, although unstable, does not decay within the detector, then in new semileptonic $B$-decay modes a light ($\sim$ 2--3 GeV) photino can be produced carrying missing energy. However, the photino, being massive, arranges a different kinematical configuration for the visible decay products as compared to a standard semileptonic event where the neutrino carries the missing energy. We study the above kinematic distributions in an attempt to explore the above scenario.
We extend the approach based on the light-cone expansion and the heavy quark effective theory to the inclusive semileptonic decay of an unpolarized $b$-flavored hadron. It is applied to calculate the semileptonic decay width of the $Λ_b$ baryon and its ratio to that of the B meson. We obtain $Γ_{SL}(Λ_b)= 51\pm 9 |V_{cb}|^2{ps}^{-1}$ and $Γ_{SL}(Λ_b)/Γ_{SL}(B)= 1.052\pm 0.006$. From the latter, the semileptonic branching fraction for $Λ_b$ is predicted to be $(8.7\pm 0.7)%$.
We calculate semileptonic decays of light and heavy baryons in a relativistically covariant constituent quark model. The model is based on the Bethe-Salpeter-equation in instantaneous approximation. It generates satisfactory mass spectra for mesons and baryons up to the highest observable energies. Without introducing additional free parameters we compute on this basis helicity amplitudes of electronic and muonic semileptonic decays of baryons. We thus obtain form factor ratios and decay rates in good agreement with experiment.
Heavy Quark Expansions for semileptonic decays of beauty hadrons are briefly reviewed. I analyze how $|V(cb)|$ can be extracted from the semileptonic width of $B$ mesons, the average semileptonic width of all weakly decaying beauty hadrons and from $B \ra l νD^*$ at zero recoil. Special attention is paid to present theoretical uncertainties (including correlations among them) and on how to reduce them in the future. Finally I will comment on theoretical uncertainties in $|V(ub)/V(cb)|$.
Recent progress in calculating O(alpha_s^2) corrections to inclusive and exclusive semileptonic b-->c transitions is reviewed. The impact of these corrections on the |V_cb| determination from both inclusive and exclusive B decays is discussed.
In this talk, we review the QCD calculation of the lepton spectrum from inclusive semileptonic $B$ decay. We compare this prediction to that of the ACCMM model. This latter work was done in collaboration with Csaba Csaki.
Starting from an Operator Product Expansion in the Heavy Quark Effective Theory up to order 1/m_b^2 we calculate the inclusive semileptonic decays of unpolarized bottom hadrons including lepton mass effects. We calculate the differential decay spectra dΓ/(dE_τ), and the total decay rate for B meson decays to final states containing a τlepton.
We obtain the wave function of mesonic systems interacting via a Cornell potential by applying improved variational approach. We study Isgur-Wise function and its parameters. Then we report our calculations on the parameters of semileptonic decay of B and Bs mesons. B-->D*l$nu$ process is also investigated in this work.
Based on the predictions of the relevant form factors from the covariant light-front quark model, we show the branching fractions for the $D (D_s) \to (P,\,S,\,V,\,A)\,\ellν_\ell$ ($\ell=e$ or $μ$) decays, where $P$ denotes the pseudoscalar meson, $S$ the scalar meson with a mass above 1 GeV, $V$ the vector meson and $A$ the axial-vector one. Comparison with the available experimental results are made, and we find an excellent agreement. The predictions for other decay modes can be tested in a charm factory, e.g., the BESIII detector. The future measurements will definitely further enrich our …
We calculate the semileptonic baryon octet-octet transition form factors using a manifestly Lorentz covariant quark model approach based on the factorization of the contribution of valence quarks and chiral effects. We perform a detailed analysis of SU(3) breaking corrections to the hyperon semileptonic decay form factors. We present complete results on decay rates and asymmetry parameters including lepton mass effects for the rates.
We study the inclusive semileptonic B decays in the parton model. The model gives a decay spectrum which is in excellent agreement with experiment and makes several predictions to be tested in the forseeable future.
Semileptonic decays of D-mesons into scalar hadronic states are investigated. Two extreme cases are considered: a) the meson decays directly into an uncorrelated scalar state of two two mesons and b) the decay proceeds via resonance formation. QCD sum rules including instanton contributions are used to calculate total and differential decay rates under the two assumptions.
We review current issues in exclusive semileptonic tau decays. We present the formalism of structure functions, and then discuss predictions for final states with kaons, for decays into four pions and for radiative corrections to the decay into a single pion. Implications for testing the standard model at low energies are discussed.
