In this paper, we present a detailed asteroseismological analysis of six GW Vir stars including the observations collected by the TESS mission. We processed and analyzed TESS observations of RX J2117+3412, HS 2324+3944, NGC 6905, NGC 1501, NGC 2371, and K 1-16. We carried out a detailed asteroseismological analysis of these stars on the basis of PG 1159 evolutionary models that take into account the complete evolution of the progenitor stars. In total, we extracted 58 periodicities from the TESS light curves using a standard pre-whitening procedure to derive the potential pulsation frequencies. All the oscillation frequencies that we found are associated with g-mode pulsations with periods spanning from $\sim 817$ s to $\sim 2682$ s. We find constant period spacings for all but one star, which allowed us to infer their stellar masses and constrain the harmonic degree $\ell$ of the modes. We performed period-to-period fit analyses on five of the six analyzed stars. For four stars, we were able to find an asteroseismological model with masses in agreement with the stellar-mass values inferred from the period spacings, and generally compatible with the spectroscopic masses. We estimated the seismological distance and compared it with the precise astrometric distance measured with GAIA. Finally, we find that the period spectrum of K 1-16 exhibits dramatic changes in frequency and amplitude. The high-quality data collected by the TESS space mission, considered simultaneously with ground-based observations, are able to provide a very valuable input to the asteroseismology of GW Vir stars, similar to the case of other classes of pulsating white-dwarf stars. The TESS mission, in conjunction with future space missions and upcoming surveys, will make impressive progress in white-dwarf asteroseismology.
We present the results of complex seismic modelling of the Slowly Pulsating B-type star HD74560. The star pulsates in five frequencies detected in photometric observations. For all these frequencies, we identify the mode degree, $\ell$. For two of them, found also in spectroscopic data, we are able to derived the empirical values of the complex nonadiabatic parameter $f$. We test effects of chemical composition and opacity data. Our results show that the properties of seismic models of SPB stars differ significantly from those of the more massive $β$ Cephei stars.
Asteroseismology offers the possibility of probing stellar interiors and testing evolutionary and seismic models. Precise photometry and spectroscopy obtained during multi-site campaigns on young open clusters allows discovering rich samples of pulsating stars and using them in a simultaneous seismic modelling called ensemble asteroseismology. The aim of this study is to obtain the age of the open cluster NGC 6910 by means of ensemble asteroseismology of the early-type pulsating members, to derive their stellar parameters, and to classify the excited modes. We used time-series analysis, perfor…
At present, a large number of pulsating white dwarf (WD) stars is being discovered either from Earth-based surveys such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, or through observations from space (e.g., the Kepler mission). The asteroseismological techniques allow us to infer details of internal chemical stratification, the total mass, and even the stellar rotation profile. In this paper, we first describe the basic properties of WD stars and their pulsations, as well as the different sub-types of these variables known so far. Subsequently, we describe some recent findings about pulsating low-mass WDs…
The success of helioseismology is due to its capability of measuring p-mode oscillations in the Sun. This allows us to extract informations on the internal structure and rotation of the Sun from the surface to the core. Similarly, asteroseismology is the study of the internal structure of the stars as derived from stellar oscillations. In this review we highlight the progress in the observational asteroseismology, including some basic theoretical aspects. In particular, we discuss our contributions to asteroseismology through the study of chemically peculiar stars under the "Nainital-Cape Surv…
We present a preliminary analysis of the cool pulsating white dwarf GD 1212, enabled by more than 11.5 days of space-based photometry obtained during an engineering test of the two-reaction-wheel-controlled Kepler spacecraft. We detect at least 19 independent pulsation modes, ranging from 828.2-1220.8 s, and at least 17 nonlinear combination frequencies of those independent pulsations. Our longest uninterrupted light curve, 9.0 days in length, evidences coherent difference frequencies at periods inaccessible from the ground, up to 14.5 hr, the longest-period signals ever detected in a pulsatin…
In the course of their evolution, white-dwarf stars go through at least one phase of variability in which the global pulsations they undergo allow astronomers to peer into their interiors, this way making possible to shed light on their deep inner structure and evolutionary stage by means of asteroseismology. The study of pulsating white dwarfs has witnessed substantial progress in the last decade, and this has been so largely thanks to the arrival of continuous observations of unprecedented quality from space, like those of the CoRoT, Kepler, and TESS missions. This, along with the advent of …
We present analysis of a new pulsating helium-atmosphere (DB) white dwarf, EPIC~228782059, discovered from 55.1~days of {\em K2} photometry. The long duration, high quality light curves reveal 11 independent dipole and quadruple modes, from which we derive a rotational period of $34.1 \pm 0.4$~hr for the star. An optimal model is obtained from a series of grids constructed using the White Dwarf Evolution Code, which returns $M_{*} = 0.685 \pm 0.003 M_{\odot}$, $T_{\rm{eff}}= 21{,}910 \pm 23$\,K and $\log g = 8.14 \pm0.01$\,dex. These values are comparable to those derived from spectroscopy by …
Why bother with asteroseismology while studying exoplanets? There are several answers to this question. Asteroseismology and exoplanetary sciences have much in common and the synergy between the two opens up new aspects in both fields. These fields and stellar activity, when taken together, allow maximum extraction of information from exoplanet space missions. Asteroseismology of the host star has already proved its value in a number of exoplanet systems by its unprecedented precision in determining stellar parameters. In addition, asteroseismology allows the possibility of discovering new exo…
We briefly review progress in developing a pathway to nonlinear astereoseismology, both from theoretical and observational aspects. As predicted by the theory of weak nonlinear interactions between resonant modes, their amplitude and frequency can be modulated according to various kinds of patterns. However, those subtle modulations could hardly be well characterized from ground-based photometric monitoring. The {\sl Kepler} spacecraft offered a new window to find clear-cut evidence of well-determined amplitude and frequency modulations, leading to the first discoveries of such variations in p…
Scientific research is a continuous process, and the speed of future progress can be estimated by the pace of finding explanations for previous research questions. In this observers based view of stellar pulsation and asteroseismology, we start with the earliest observations of variable stars and the techniques used to observe them. The earliest variable stars were large amplitude, radial pulsators but were followed by other classes of pulsating stars. As the field matured, we outline some cornerstones of research into pulsating star research with an emphasis on changes in observational techni…
The interior physics of stars is currently not well constrained for early-type stars. This is particularly pertinent for multiple systems as binary interaction becomes more prevalent for more massive stars, which strongly affects their evolution. High-precision photometry from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission offers the opportunity to remedy the dearth of observations of pulsating stars that show evidence of binary interaction, specifically pulsating mass-accreting components of semi-detached Algol-type eclipsing binary (oEA) systems. We present the TESS light curve of …
TIC033834484 and TIC309658435 are long-period pulsating subdwarf B star, which were observed extensively (675 and 621 days, respectively) by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). The high-precision photometric light curve reveals the presence of more than 40 pulsation modes including both stars. All the oscillation frequencies that we found are associated with gravity (g)-mode pulsations, with frequencies spanning from 80 $μ$Hz (2 500 s) to 400 $μ$Hz (12 000 s). We utilize the asteroseismic tools including asymptotic period spacings and rotational frequency multiplets in order to i…
SDSS J111215.82+111745.0 is the second pulsating extremely low-mass white dwarf discovered. Two short-period pulsations, 107.56 and 134.275 s, were detected on this star, which would be the first observed pressure mode ($p$-mode) pulsations observed on a white dwarf. While the two potential $p$-modes have yet to be confirmed, they make SDSS J111215.82+111745.0 an interesting object. In this work, we analyzed the whole set of seven periods observed on SDSS J111215.82+111745.0. We adopt three independent period-spacing tests to reveal a roughly 93.4 s mean period spacing of $\ell=1$ $g$-modes, w…
Many low-mass white dwarfs are being discovered in the field of our galaxy and some of them exhibit $g$-mode pulsations, comprising the extremely low-mass variable (ELMV) stars class. Despite it is generally believed that these stars are characterized by thick H envelopes, from stellar evolution considerations, the existence of low-mass WDs with thin H envelopes is also possible. We have performed detailed asteroseismological fits to all the known ELMVs to search for a representative model by employing a set of fully evolutionary models that are representative of low-mass He-core white dwarf s…
We present an asteroseismological study on the two high-gravity pulsating PG1159 (GW Vir or DOV) stars, PG 2131+066 and PG 1707+427, and on the pulsating [WCE] star NGC 1501. We compute adiabatic $g$-mode pulsation periods on PG1159 evolutionary models with stellar masses ranging from 0.530 to 0.741 Msun. These models take into account the complete evolution of progenitor stars, through the thermally pulsing AGB phase, and born-again episode. We constrain the stellar mass of PG 2131+066, PG 1707+427 and NGC 1501 by comparing the observed period spacing with the asymptotic period spacing and wi…
Recent progress in the seismic interpretation of field beta Cep stars has resulted in improvements of the physics in the stellar structure and evolution models of massive stars. Further asteroseismic constraints can be obtained from studying ensembles of stars in a young open cluster, which all have similar age, distance and chemical composition. We present an observational asteroseismology study based on the discovery of numerous multi-periodic and mono-periodic B-stars in the open cluster NGC 884. We describe a thorough investigation of the pulsational properties of all B-type stars in the c…
Context. Asteroseismic determinations of structural parameters of hot B subdwarfs (sdB) have been carried out for more than a decade now. These analyses rely on stellar models whose reliability for the required task needs to be evaluated critically. Aims. We present new models of the so-called third generation (3G) dedicated to the asteroseismology of sdB stars. These parameterized models are complete static structures suitable for analyzing both p- and g-mode pulsators, contrary to the former second generation (2G) models that were limited to p-modes. While the reliability of the 2G models ha…
The {\sl TESS} space mission has recently demonstrated its great potential to discover new pulsating white dwarf and pre-white dwarf stars, and to detect periodicities with high precision in already known white-dwarf pulsators. We report the discovery of two new pulsating He-rich atmosphere white dwarfs (DBVs) and present a detailed asteroseismological analysis of three already known DBV stars employing observations collected by the {\sl TESS} mission along with ground-based data. We extracted frequencies from the {\sl TESS} light curves of these DBV stars using a standard pre-whitening proced…
Hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus pulsating stars show acoustic ($p$) oscillation modes typical of $δ$ Scuti variable stars, and gravity ($g$) pulsation modes characteristic of $γ$ Doradus variable stars simultaneously excited. Observations from space missions like MOST, CoRoT, and \emph{Kepler} have revealed a large number of hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus pulsators, thus paving the way for a exciting new channel for asteroseismic studies. We perform a detailed asteroseismological modeling of five hybrid $δ$ Scuti-$γ$ Doradus stars. We employ a grid-based modeling approach to sound the internal stru…
Many pulsating low-mass white-dwarf stars have been detected in the last years in the field of our Galaxy. Given that some of them exhibit multiperiodic variation of brightness, it is possible to probe their interiors through asteroseismology. We present a detailed asteroseismological study of all the known low-mass variable white dwarf stars based on a complete set of fully evolutionary models representative of low-mass He-core white dwarf stars. We employed adiabatic radial and nonradial pulsation periods for low-mass white dwarf models with stellar masses ranging from $0.1554$ to $0.4352\ M…
Binary systems anchor many of the fundamental relations relied upon in asteroseismology. Masses and radii are rarely constrained better than when measured via orbital dynamics and eclipse depths. Pulsating binaries have much to offer. They are clocks, moving in space, that encode orbital motion in the Doppler-shifted pulsation frequencies. They offer twice the opportunity to obtain an asteroseismic age, which is then applicable to both stars. They enable comparative asteroseismology -- the study of two stars by their pulsation properties, whose only fundamental differences are the mass and rot…
Eclipsing binary stars have long served as benchmark systems to measure fundamental stellar properties. In the past few decades, asteroseismology - the study of stellar pulsations - has emerged as a new powerful tool to study the structure and evolution of stars across the HR diagram. Pulsating stars in eclipsing binary systems are particularly valuable since fundamental properties (such as radii and masses) can determined using two independent techniques. Furthermore, independently measured properties from binary orbits can be used to improve asteroseismic modeling for pulsating stars in whic…
Seismic modeling of the Slowly Pulsating B-type star HD182255 yields strong constraints on the radial orders of the two dominant modes. For these frequencies, we derive also the empirical values of the complex nonadiabatic parameter $f$. These two seismic tools, i.e., pulsational frequencies and the associated values of $f$, allow to test available opacity data, chemical composition and overshooting efficiency.
This is a progress report on the ongoing project dealing with ensemble asteroseismology of B-type stars in young open clusters. The project is aimed at searches for B-type pulsating stars in open clusters, determination of atmospheric parameters for some members and seismic modeling of B-type pulsators. Some results for NGC 457, IC 1805, IC 4996, NGC 6910 and alpha Per open clusters are presented. For the last cluster, BRITE data for five members were used.

It is well known that asteroseismology is the unique technique permitting the study of the internal structure of pulsating stars using their pulsational frequencies, which is per se very important. It acquires an additional value when the star turns out to be a planet host. In this case, the asteroseismic study output may be a very important input for the study of the planetary system. With this in mind, we use the large time-span of the Kepler public data obtained for the star system HAT-P-7, first to perform an asteroseismic study of the pulsating star using Time-Dependent-Convection (TDC) m…
The internal structures of pulsating white dwarfs can be explored only with asteroseismology. Time series photometric observations were made for the pulsating DA white dwarf (ZZ Ceti star) WD~0246+326 during 9 nights in 2014 with a bi-site observation campaign. Eleven frequencies were detected including 1 triplet, 2 doublets, and 4 single modes, which are identified as either $l=1$ or $l=2$ modes with the complementarity of frequencies present in the literature. From the multiplets, the rotation period of \astrobj{WD~0246+326} is derived as $3.78\pm 0.11$ days. The average period spacing of th…
Chemical turbulent mixing induced by rotation can affect the internal distribution of mu near the energy-generating core of main-sequence stars, having an effect on the evolutionary tracks similar to that of overshooting. However, this mixing also leads to a smoother chemical composition profile near the edge of the convective core, which is reflected in the behaviour of the buoyancy frequency and, therefore, in the frequencies of gravity modes. We show that for rotational velocities typical of main-sequence B-type pulsating stars, the signature of a rotationally induced mixing significantly p…
The collection of high-quality photometric data by space telescopes is revolutionizing the area of white-dwarf asteroseismology. Among the different kinds of pulsating white dwarfs, there are those that have He-rich atmospheres, and they are called DBVs or V777 Her variable stars. The archetype of these pulsating white dwarfs, GD~358, is the focus of the present paper. We report a thorough asteroseismological analysis of the DBV star GD~358 (TIC~219074038) based on new high-precision photometric data gathered by the {\it TESS} space mission combined with data taken from the Earth. In total, we…
Pulsating hydrogen-deficient white dwarfs and pre-white dwarfs observed with TESS VI. Asteroseismology of the GW Vir-type central star of the Planetary Nebula NGC 246
We introduce our PhD project in which we focus on pulsating stars in eclipsing binaries. The combination of high-precision Kepler photometry with high-resolution HERMES spectroscopy allows for detailed descriptions of our sample of target stars. We report here the detection of three false positives by radial velocity measurements.
Pulsation frequencies reveal the interior structures of white dwarf stars, shedding light on the properties of these compact objects that represent the final evolutionary stage of most stars. Two-minute cadence photometry from TESS will record pulsation signatures from bright white dwarfs over the entire sky. We aim to demonstrate the sensitivity of TESS data to measuring pulsations of helium-atmosphere white dwarfs in the DBV instability strip, and what asteroseismic analysis of these measurements can constrain about their stellar structures. We present a case study of the pulsating DBV WD 01…
The field of asteroseismology has enjoyed a large swath of data coming from recent missions (e.g., CoRoT, Kepler, K2). This wealth of new data has allowed the field to expand beyond the previous limitation of a few extremely bright and evolved stars. Asteroseismology relies on accurate surface measurements for boundary conditions, but the predicted physical parameters in the Kepler Input Catalog (KIC) are unreliable for hot stars. We present stellar parameters of 25 candidate pulsating B star candidates in the Kepler field. We use blue optical spectra to measure the projected rotational veloci…
The properties of the Extreme Horizontal Branch stars are quite well understood, but much uncertainty surrounds the many paths that bring a star to this peculiar configuration. Asteroseismology of pulsating EHB stars has been performed on a number of objects, bringing us to the stage where comparisons of the inferred properties with evolutionary models becomes feasible. In this review I outline our current understanding of the formation and evolution of these stars, with emphasis on recent progress. The aim is to show how the physical parameters derived by asteroseismology can enable the discr…
We present the results of the asteroseismological analysis of two rich DAVs, G38-29 and R808, recent targets of the Whole Earth Telescope. 20 periods between 413 s and 1089 s were found in G38-29's pulsation spectrum, while R808 is an even richer pulsator, with 24 periods between 404 s and 1144 s. Traditionally, DAVs that have been analyzed asteroseismologically have had fewer than half a dozen modes. Such a large number of modes presents a special challenge to white dwarf asteroseismology, but at the same time has the potential to yield a detailed picture of the interior chemical make-up of D…
The high precision data obtained by the {\it Kepler} satellite allows us to detect hybrid type pulsator candidates more accurately than the data obtained by ground-based observations. In this study, we present preliminary results on the new analysis of the {\it Kepler} light curve and high resolution spectroscopic observations of pulsating Am star KIC\,9204718. Our tentative analysis therefore show that the star has hybrid pulsational characteristics.
Some low-mass white-dwarf (LMWD) stars with H atmospheres show long-period g-mode pulsations, comprising the class of pulsating WDs called extremely low-mass variable (ELMV) stars. It is generally believed that these stars have thick H envelopes. However, from stellar evolution considerations, the existence of LMWDs with thin H envelopes is also possible. We present a thorough asteroseismological analysis of ELMV stars based on a complete set of fully evolutionary models that represents low-mass He-core WD stars harboring a range of H envelope thicknesses. Although there are currently nine ELM…
Studying stellar pulsations in open clusters offers the possibility to perform ensemble asteroseismology. The reasonable assumption that the cluster members have the same age, distance, and overall metallicity aids in the seismic modelling process and tightly constrains it. Therefore it is important to identify open clusters with many pulsators. New pulsating stars of the Beta Cephei type were searched for among the members of the open cluster NGC 637. Thirty-one hours of time resolved V filter CCD photometry were obtained. The measurements confirmed two previously known variables, and reveale…
SPB star HD 50230, in fact a hybrid B-type pulsator, has been observed by CoRoT least 137 days. A nearly equidistant period spacing pattern are found among 8 modes which are extracted from the oscillation spectrum with more than 500 frequencies. However, it is thought to be most likely accidental by Szewczuk et al. (2014). In the present work, we analyze the 8 modes in depth with the $χ^2$-matching method. Based on the best fitting model (model MA), we find that they can be well explained as a sequences of consecutive dipolar $(l,~m)=(1,~0)$. The period discrepancies between observations and t…
We have carried out a statistic survey on the pulsating variable stars with multiple identities. These stars were identified to exhibit two types of pulsation or multiple light variability types in the literature, and are usually called hybrid pulsators. We extracted the hybrid information based on the Simbad database. Actually, all the variables with multiple identities are retrieved. The survey covers various pulsating stars across the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. We aim at giving a clue in selecting interesting targets for further observation. Hybrid pulsators are excellent targets for aste…
After a brief introduction into the asteroseismic modelling of stars, we provide a compilation of the current seismic estimates of the core overshooting parameter and of the rotational frequency of single and binary massive stars. These important stellar parameters have meanwhile become available for eleven OB-type stars, among which three spectroscopic pulsating binaries and one magnetic pulsator. We highlight the potential of ongoing and future analyses of eclipsing binary pulsators as essential laboraties to test stellar structure and evolution models of single and binary stars.
The results of our six year systematic observational survey on candidate eclipsing binaries with a delta Sct component are briefly presented. A new catalogue for this kind of systems as well as the properties of their delta Sct members are also presented. The comparison between the components-pulsators and the single delta Sct stars shows that both the evolution and the pulsating properties differ significantly. Finally, we introduce the new era of studying stellar pulsations using high accuracy data from Kepler mission and emphasizing the great opportunities that are now opened for a deep kno…
ZZ Ceti stars are pulsating white dwarfs with a carbon-oxygen core build up during the core helium burning and thermally pulsing Asymptotic Giant Branch phases. Through the interpretation of their pulsation periods by means of asteroseismology, details about their origin and evolution can be inferred. The whole pulsation spectrum exhibited by ZZ Ceti stars strongly depends on the inner chemical structure. At present, there are several processes affecting the chemical profiles that are still not accurately determined. We present a study of the impact of the current uncertainties of the white dw…
Red-giant stars are proving to be an incredible source of information for testing models of stellar evolution, as asteroseismology has opened up a window into their interiors. Such insights are a direct result of the unprecedented data from space missions CoRoT and Kepler as well as recent theoretical advances. Eclipsing binaries are also fundamental astrophysical objects, and when coupled with asteroseismology, they would provide two independent methods to obtain masses and radii and exciting opportunities to develop highly constrained stellar models. Gaulme et al. (2013) reported the discove…
In the last few years, we have carried out several extensive observational campaigns on pulsating hot subdwarf stars using the Mont4K CCD camera attached to the 1.55 m Kuiper Telescope on Mount Bigelow. The Mont4K is a joint partnership between the University of Arizona and Universite de Montreal. It was designed and built at Steward Observatory. Using the Mont4K/Kuiper combination, we have so far, and among others, gathered high-sensitivity broadband light curves for PG 1219+534, PB8783, HS 0702+6043, and Feige 48. We report very briefly on some of the most interesting observational results t…
Recent progress in the seismic interpretation of field β Cep stars has resulted in improvements of the physical description in the stellar structure and evolution model computations of massive stars. Further asteroseismic constraints can be obtained from studying ensembles of stars in a young open cluster, which all have similar age, distance and chemical composition. We present an observational asteroseismic study based on the discovery of numerous multi-periodic and mono-periodic B-stars in the open cluster NGC 884. Our study illustrates the current status of ensemble asteroseismology of a y…
Hot subdwarf B stars (sdBs) are evolved, core helium-burning objects located on the extreme horizontal branch. Their formation history is still puzzling as the sdB progenitors must lose nearly all of their hydrogen envelope during the red-giant phase. About half of the known sdBs are in close binaries with periods from 1.2 h to a few days, a fact that implies they experienced a common-envelope phase. Eclipsing hot subdwarf binaries (also called HW Virginis systems) are rare but important objects for determining fundamental stellar parameters. Even more significant and uncommon are those binari…
We perform an asteroseismological study on the DAV star G117-B15A on the basis of a modern set of fully evolutionary DA white dwarf models that have consistent chemical profiles at the core and the envelope. We found an asteroseismological model for G117-B15A that closely reproduces its observed pulsation periods. Then, we use the most recently measured value of the rate of period change for the dominant mode of this pulsating star to impose a preliminary upper limit to the mass of the axion.
Stellar structure and evolution theory is one of the basis in modern astronomy. Stellar inner structures and their evolutionary states can be precisely tested by asteroseismology, since the inner information is brought to the stellar surface by the global oscillating waves and becomes observable. For stellar evolutionary speed (i.e. how long time scale does a star stay at a special evolution phase?), because of the insurmountable gap between the time scales of the evolutionary history of human civilization and a star, it can only be roughly tested by ensemble of stars in different evolutionary…
Ultra-massive white dwarfs are relevant for their role as type Ia Supernova progenitors, the occurrence of physical processes in the asymptotic giant-branch phase, the existence of high-field magnetic white dwarfs, and the occurrence of double white dwarf mergers. Some hydrogen-rich ultra-massive white dwarfs are pulsating stars, and as such, they offer the possibility of studying their interiors through asteroseismology. On the other hand, pulsating helium-rich ultra-massive white dwarfs could be even more attractive objects for asteroseismology if they were found, as they should be hotter an…
We propose a novel and feasible method to detect dark matter (DM) electron interaction via pulsating white dwarfs (WDs) in the central region of globular clusters. Annihilation of the DM particles captured by those WDs can provide additional energy source along the natural cooling evolution of WDs and the cooling print can be well offered by precise asteroseismology. The measurement of the long time scale physical quantity -- the rates of period variation of pulsation modes -- could be used to constrain the cross section between DM particles and electrons ($σ_{e}$), when DM particle mass $m_χ …
Context. There is currently a niche for providing high-cadence, high resolution, time-series optical spectroscopy from space, which can be filled by using a low-cost cubesat mission. The Belgian-led ESA CubeSpec mission is specifically designed to provide space-based, low-cost spectroscopy with specific capabilities that can be optimised for a particular science need. Approved as an ESA in-orbit demonstrator, the CubeSpec satellite's primary science objective will focus on obtaining high-cadence, high resolution optical spectroscopic data to facilitate asteroseismology of pulsating massive sta…
We investigate the internal rotation profile of the GW Vir (PG1159-type) star PG 0122+200 by employing an asteroseismological model that closely reproduces the observed periods of this star. We adopt a forward approach and two inversion methods based on the rotational splitting of the pulsation frequencies to explore the properties of the rotation of PG 0122+200. We found evidence for differential rotation in this star.
As white-dwarf (WD) stars cool, they go through one or more stages of $g$(gravity)-mode pulsational instability, becoming multiperiodic variable stars. Stars passing through these instability domains allow astronomers to study their interiors through asteroseismological techniques, as if they could "look" at their interiors by analyzing the spectra of pulsation periods. WD asteroseismology has experienced extraordinary advances in recent years thanks to photometric observations of unprecedented quality delivered by space missions such as Kepler and TESS. These advances in the monitoring of var…
The present work contains light curve, spectroscopic and asteroseismic analyses for KIC 04851217 and KIC 10686876. These systems are detached eclipsing binaries hosting a pulsating component of delta Scuti type and have been observed with the unprecedented accuracy of the Kepler space telescope. Using ground based spectroscopic observations, the spectral types of the primary components of the systems were estimated as A6V and A5V for KIC 04851217 and KIC 10686876, respectively, with an uncertainty of one subclass. The present spectral classification together with literature radial velocities c…
One of the largest uncertainties in stellar structure and evolution theory is the transport of angular momentum in the stellar interiors. Asteroseismology offers a powerful tool for measuring the internal rotation frequencies of pulsating stars, but the number of such measurements has remained few for $\gtrsim 3\,{\rm M}_\odot$ main-sequence stars. In this work, we compile a list of 52 slowly pulsating B stars for which the interior rotation has been measured asteroseismically. The measurements of the spin parameters, which describe the relative importance of rotation, for the gravito-inertial…
Turbulent mixing of chemical elements by convection has fundamental effects on the evolution of stars. The standard algorithm at present, mixing-length theory (MLT), is intrinsically local, and must be supplemented by extensions with adjustable parameters. As a step toward reducing this arbitrariness, we compare asteroseismically inferred internal structures of two Kepler slowly pulsating B stars (SPB's; $M\sim 3.25 M_\odot$) to predictions of 321D turbulence theory, based upon well-resolved, truly turbulent three-dimensional simulations (Arnett , et al. 2015, Christini, et al. 2016) which inc…
Context. This research paper contains light curve modelling, spectroscopy and detailed asteroseismic studies for four out of five in total semidetached eclipsing binaries with a delta Scuti component, that have been detected to date through Kepler mission, namely KIC 06669809, KIC 10581918, KIC 10619109 and KIC 11175495. Aims. The goal is to study the pulsational characteristics of the oscillating stars of the systems as well as to estimate their absolute parameters and enrich the so far poor sample of this kind of systems. Methods. Ground based spectroscopic observations provide the means to …
