We consider the cooperative spontaneous emission of a system of two identical atoms, interacting with the electromagnetic field in the vacuum state and in the presence of an oscillating mirror. We assume that the two atoms, one in the ground state and the other in the excited state, are prepared in a correlated (symmetric or antisymmetric) {\em Bell}-type state. We also suppose that the perfectly reflecting plate oscillates adiabatically, with the field modes satisfying the boundary conditions at the mirror surface at any given instant, so that the time-dependence of the interaction Hamiltonian is entirely enclosed in the instantaneous atoms-wall distance. Using time-dependent perturbation theory, we investigate the spectrum of the radiation emitted by the two-atom system, showing how the oscillation of the boundary modifies the features of the emitted spectrum, which exhibits two lateral peaks not present in the case of a static boundary. We also evaluate the transition rate to the collective ground state of the two-atom system in both cases of the superradiant (symmetric) and subradiant (antisymmetric) state. We show that it is modulated in time, and that the presence of the oscillating mirror can enhance or inhibit the decay rate compared to the case of atoms in vacuum space or near a static boundary. Our results thus suggest that a dynamical (i.e. time-modulated) environment can give new possibilities to control and manipulate radiative processes of atoms or molecules nearby, such as the cooperative decay, and strongly indicate a similar possibility for other radiative processes, for example the resonance interaction and the energy transfer between atoms or molecules.
We investigate the spontaneous emission of one atom placed near an oscillating reflecting plate. We consider the atom modeled as a two-level system, interacting with the quantum electromagnetic field in the vacuum state, in the presence of the oscillating mirror. We suppose that the plate oscillates adiabatically, so that the time-dependence of the interaction Hamiltonian is entirely enclosed in the time-dependent mode functions, satisfying the boundary conditions at the plate surface, at any given time. Using time-dependent perturbation theory, we evaluate the transition rate to the ground-st…
We investigate the dynamical Casimir effect for a one-dimensional resonant cavity, with one oscillating mirror. Specifically, we study the discrete spectrum of created particles in a region of frequencies above the oscillation frequency $ω_0$ of the mirror. We focus our investigation on an oscillation time equal to $2L_0/c$, where $L_0$ is the initial and final length of the cavity, and $c$ is the speed of light. For this oscillation duration, a field mode, after perturbed by the moving mirror, never meets this mirror in motion again, which allows us to exclude this effect of re-interaction on…
We study the resonance interaction between two entangled identical atoms coupled to a quantized scalar field vacuum, and accelerating between two mirrors. We show how radiative processes of the two-atom entangled state can be manipulated by the atomic configuration undergoing noninertial motion. Incorporating the Heisenberg picture with symmetric operator ordering, the vacuum fluctuation and the self-reaction contributions are distinguished. We evaluate the resonance energy shift and the relaxation rate of energy of the two atom system from the self-reaction contribution in the Heisenberg equa…
We propose a scheme for the remote preparation of entangled matter qubits in free space. For this purpose, a setup of two opposing parabolic mirrors is considered, each one with a single ion trapped at its focus. To get the required entanglement in this extreme multimode scenario, we take advantage of the spontaneous decay, which is usually considered as an apparent nuisance. Using semiclassical methods, we derive an efficient photon-path representation to deal with this problem. We also present a thorough examination of the experimental feasibility of the scheme. The vulnerabilities arising i…
We present a scheme for cavity-assisted generation of hybrid entanglement between a moving mirror belonging to an optomechanical cavity and a single trapped ion located inside a second cavity. Due to radiation pressure, it is possible to entangle the moving mirror with one of the cavity fields. Also, by tuning the second cavity field with the internal degrees of freedom of the ion, an entangled state of the cavity field/ion can be independently generated. The fields leaking from each cavity are then combined in a beam-splitter, and following the detection of the outgoing photons by convenientl…
We report the experimental observations of Bell Inequality Violations (BIV) in entangled photons causally separated by a rotating mirror. A Foucault mirror gating geometry is used to causally isolate the entangled photon source and detectors. We report an observed BIV of CHSH-$S = 2.30 \pm 0.07 > 2.00$. This result rules out theories that explain correlations with traveling communication between source and detectors.
We review the application of discrete time crystals created in a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of ultracold atoms bouncing resonantly on an oscillating mirror to the investigation of condensed matter phenomena in the time dimension. Such a bouncing BEC system can exhibit dramatic breaking of time-translation symmetry, allowing the creation of discrete time crystals having up to about 100 temporal lattice sites and suitable for hosting a broad range of temporal condensed matter phenomena. We first consider single-particle condensed matter phenomena in the time dimension which include Anderson …
We study a hybrid semiconductor-optomechanical system, which consists of a cavity with an oscillating mirror made by semiconducting materials or with a semiconducting membrane inside. The cavity photons and the excitons in the oscillating mirror or semiconducting membrane form into polaritons. And correspondingly, the optomechanical interaction between the cavity photons and the mirror or membrane is changed into the polariton-mechanical interaction. We theoretically study the eigenenergies and eigenfunctions of this tripartite hybrid system with the generalized rotating-wave approximation. We…

The multiphonon quantum dynamics in laser-pumped cavity optomechanical samples containing a vibrating mirror is investigated. Especially, we focus on dispersive interaction regimes where the externally applied coherent field frequency detuning from the optical resonator frequency is not equal to the mirror's oscillating frequency or to its multiples. As a result, for moderately strong couplings among the involved subsystems, the quantum dynamics of this complex system is described by multiphonon absorption or emission processes, respectively. Particularly, we demonstrate efficient ways to moni…

Time crystals are quantum many-body systems which are able to self-organize their motion in a periodic way in time. Discrete time crystals have been experimentally demonstrated in spin systems. However, the first idea of spontaneous breaking of discrete time translation symmetry, in ultra-cold atoms bouncing on an oscillating mirror, still awaits experimental demonstration. Here, we perform a detailed analysis of the experimental conditions needed for the realization of such a discrete time crystal. Importantly, the considered system allows for the realization of dramatic breaking of discrete …
Entangled spin states are created by implanting muons into single crystal LiY0.95Ho0.05F4 to form a cluster of correlated, dipole-coupled local magnetic moments. The resulting states have well-defined energy levels allowing experimental manipulation of the state populations by electromagnetic excitation. Experimental control of the evolution of the muon spin polarization is demonstrated through application of continuous, radio-frequency magnetic excitation fields. A semiclassical model of quantum, dipole-coupled spins interacting with a classical, oscillating magnetic field accounts for the mu…
We theoretically study the radiation-induced interaction between the mechanical motion of an oscillating mirror and a remotely trapped atomic cloud. When illuminated by continuous-wave radiation, the mirror motion will induce red and blue sideband radiation, which respectively increases and reduces motional excitation. We find that by suitably driving $Λ$-level atoms, the mirror correlation with a specific radiation sideband could be converted from the outgoing to the incoming radiation. Such process allows us to manipulate the heating and cooling effects. Particularly, we develop an optomecha…
According to quantum mechanics, if we keep observing a continuous variable we generally disturb its evolution. For a class of observables, however, it is possible to implement a so-called quantum nondemolition measurement: by confining the perturbation to the conjugate variable, the observable is estimated with arbitrary accuracy, or prepared in a well-known state. For instance, when the light bounces on a movable mirror, its intensity is not perturbed (the effect is just seen on the phase of the radiation), but the radiation pressure allows to trace back its fluctuations by observing the mirr…
We study quantum dissipative effects due to the non-relativistic, bounded, accelerated motion of a single neutral atom in the presence of a planar perfect mirror, i.e. a perfect conductor at all frequencies. We consider a simplified model whereby a moving `scalar atom' is coupled to a quantum real scalar field, subjected to either Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions on the plane. We use an expansion in powers of the departure of the atom with respect to a static average position, to compute the vacuum persistence amplitude, and the resulting vacuum decay probability. We evaluate transitio…
