We propose a two component dark matter set-up by extending the Standard Model with a singlet and a hypercharge-less triplet scalars, each of them being odd under different $Z_2$ symmetries. We observe that the inter-conversion between the two dark matter components allow a viable parameter space where masses of both the dark matter candidates can be below TeV, even though their individual contribution to single component dark matter rules out any such sub-TeV dark matter. We find that a lighter mass of the neutral component of the scalar triplet, playing the role of one dark matter component, compared to the scalar one is favored. In addition, the set-up is shown to make the electroweak vacuum absolutely stable till the Planck scale, thanks to Higgs portal coupling with the scalar dark matter components.
A new weak-isospin triplet of scalar bosons is introduced to the Standard Model in order to ensure the electroweak symmetry for a conjectured new weak coupling between a hidden sector of the Universe, responsible for cold dark matter, and the Standard-Model sector (involving now the new triplet). The considered coupling may be called "electroweak portal" to the structure of hidden sector. After spontaneously breaking the electroweak symmetry by the Standard-Model Higgs mechanism, it includes the so called "photonic portal" introduced by us previously.
The neutral component of a real pseudoscalar electroweak (EW) triplet can produce a diphoton excess at 750 GeV, if it is somewhat mixed with an EW singlet pseudoscalar. This triplet-singlet mixing allows for greater freedom in the diboson branching ratios than the singlet-only case, but it is still possible to probe the parameter space extensively with 300 fb$^{-1}$. The charged component of the triplet is pair-produced at the LHC, which results in a striking signal in the form of a pair of $Wγ$ resonances with an irreducible rate of 0.27 fb. Other signatures include multiboson final states fr…
In the QCD context, the non-singlet structure functions of u and d -quarks are identical, save the initial quark densities. Electroweak radiative corrections, being flavor-dependent, bring further difference between the non-singlets. This difference is calculated in the double-logarithmic approximation and the impact of the electroweak corrections on the non-singlet intercepts is estimated numerically.
We compute the electroweak S and T parameters induced by SU(2)_L triplet scalars up to one-loop order. We consider the most general renormalizable potential for a triplet and the Standard Model Higgs doublet. Our calculation is performed by integrating out the triplet at the one-loop level and also includes the one-loop renormalization group running. Effective field theory framework allows us to work in the phase with unbroken SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y symmetry. Both S and T parameters exhibit decoupling when all dimensionful parameters are large while keeping dimensionless ratios fixed. We use bounds …
We study an extension of the MSSM which includes both new SU(2) triplets with hypercharge $\pm 1$ and a SM gauge singlet (a la NMSSM) which are coupled to each other. We are motivated by the little hierarchy problem, as well as by the $μ$ problem of the MSSM. We show that the NMSSM and the triplet-extended MSSM can successfully solve problems of one another: while triplets are responsible for large correction to the lightest physical Higgs mass, the singlet's VEV explains why the $μ$ terms (for the Higgs doublets and the new triplets) are naturally of order the electroweak (EW) scale. We also …
We match the electroweak chiral Lagrangian with two singlet scalars to the next-to-minimal composite Higgs model with $ SO(6)/SO(5) $ coset structure and extract the scalar divergences to one loop. Assuming the additional scalar to be heavy, we integrate it out and perform a matching to the well-established electroweak chiral Lagrangian with one light Higgs.
The successful description of current data provided by the Standard Model includes fundamental fermions that are color-singlets and electroweak-nonsinglets, but no fermions that are electroweak-singlets and color-nonsinglets. In an effort to understand the absence of such fermions, we construct and study {\it gedanken} models that do contain electroweak-singlet chiral quark fields. These models exhibit several distinctive properties, including the absence of any neutral lepton and the fact that both the $(uud)$ and $(ddu)$ nucleons are electrically charged. We also explore how such models coul…
Electroweak scale active right-handed neutrinos such as those proposed in a recent model necessitate the enlargement of the SM Higgs sector to include Higgs triplets with doubly charged scalars. The search for and constraints on such Higgs sector has implications not only on the nature of the electroweak symmetry breaking but also on the possibility of testing the seesaw mechanism at colliders such as the LHC and the ILC.
Singlet extensions of the Standard Model (SM) allow for a strongly first order electroweak phase transition, because of trilinear terms in the tree-level potential. We present a systematic procedure to study the parameter space of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric SM (NMSSM). We find that this model is consistent with electroweak baryogenesis for a wide range of parameters, allowing Higgs masses up to at least 115 GeV.
We present an extension of the SM involving three triplet fermions, one triplet scalar and one singlet fermion, which can explain both neutrino masses and dark matter. One triplet of fermions and the singlet are odd under a $Z_2$ symmetry, thus the model features two possible dark matter candidates. The two remaining $Z_2$-even triplet fermions can reproduce the neutrino masses and oscillation parameters consistent with observations. We consider the case where the singlet has feeble couplings while the triplet is weakly interacting and investigate the different possibilities for reproducing th…
We reveal the origin of the CP violation required by the leptogenesis in variously popular seesaw models. Especially we clarify that in a pure type-I/III seesaw with two fermion singlets/triplets, a combined type-I+III seesaw with one fermion singlet and one fermion triplet, or a combined type-I/III+II seesaw with one fermion singlet/triplet and one Higgs triplet, the CP violation for the leptogenesis can exactly come from the imaginary part of the neutrino mass matrix in a special basis where the Yukawa couplings involving one fermion singlet/triplet are allowed to get rid of any CP phases. W…
The model of radiative neutrino mass with dark matter proposed by one of us is extended to include a real singlet scalar field. There are then two important new consequences. One is the realistic possibility of having the lightest neutral singlet fermion (instead of the lightest neutral component of the dark scalar doublet) as the dark matter of the Universe. The other is a modification of the effective Higgs potential of the Standard Model, consistent with electroweak baryogenesis.
We extend the so-called singlet doublet dark matter model, where the dark matter is an admixture of a Standard Model singlet and a pair of electroweak doublet fermions, by a singlet scalar field. The new portal coupling of it with the dark sector not only contributes to the dark matter phenomenology (involving relic density and direct detection limits), but also becomes important for generation of dark matter mass through its vacuum expectation value. While the presence of dark sector fermions affects the stability of the electroweak vacuum adversely, we find this additional singlet is capable…
We examine the collider and dark matter phenomenology of the Standard Model extended by a hypercharge-zero SU(2) triplet scalar and gauge singlet scalar. In particular, we study the scenario where the singlet and triplet are both charged under a single $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry. We find that such an extension is capable of generating the observed dark matter density, while also modifying the collider phenomenology such that the lower bound on the mass of the triplet is smaller than in minimal triplet scalar extensions to the Standard Model. A high triplet mass is in tension with the parameter sp…
We describe a simple extension of the standard model, containing a scalar singlet and a triplet fermion. The model can explain the possible enhancement in the decay $H \rightarrow γγ$ at the LHC together with the excess found in the Higgs boson search at LEP2. The structure of the model is motivated by a recent argument, that was used to explain the number of fermion generations. For the sake of completenes we also considered the contributions from higher multiplets.
We propose a multiscalar singlet extension of the singlet-triplet Higgs model capable of explaining the SM fermion mass spectrum and mixing parameters. Our model is based on the $Δ\left( 27\right) $ family symmetry, supplemented by cyclic symmetries, which are spontaneously broken thus yielding the observed hierarchy of the SM charged fermion masses and quark mixing angles. The masses of the light active neutrinos are produced by type-II seesaw mechanism mediated by the neutral component of the $SU(2)_{L}$ scalar triplet. The model symmetries lead to the extended Gatto-Sartori-Tonin relations …
We consider singlet extensions of the standard model, both in the fermion and the scalar sector, to account for the generation of neutrino mass at the TeV scale and the existence of dark matter respectively. For the neutrino sector we consider models with extra singlet fermions which can generate neutrino mass via the so called inverse or linear seesaw mechanism whereas a singlet scalar is introduced as the candidate for dark matter. We show that although these two sectors are disconnected at low energy, the coupling constants of both the sectors get correlated at high energy scale by the cons…
SUSY models with a gauge singlet easily allow for a strongly first order electroweak phase transition (EWPT). We discuss the wall profile, in particular transitional CP violation during the EWPT. We calculate CP violating source terms for the charginos in the WKB approximation and solve the relevant transport equations to obtain the generated baryon asymmetry.
It was shown recently that the original SU(5) theory of Georgi and Glashow, augmented with an adjoint fermionic multiplet 24_F, can be made compatible both with neutrino masses and gauge coupling unification. In particular, the model predicts that either electroweak-triplet states are light, within the reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), or proton decay will become accessible at the next generation of megaton-scale facilities. In this paper, we present the computation of the correlation function between the electroweak-triplet masses and the unification scale at the next-to-next-to-leadi…
We investigate lepton flavor violation (LFV) in the the singlet-triplet scotogenic model in which neutrinos acquire non-zero masses at the 1-loop level. In contrast to the most popular variant of this setup, the singlet scotogenic model, this version includes a triplet fermion as well as a triplet scalar, leading to a scenario with a richer dark matter phenomenology. Taking into account results from neutrino oscillation experiments, we explore some aspects of the LFV phenomenology of the model. In particular, we study the relative weight of the dipole operators with respect to other contributi…
We reconsider the strength of the electroweak phase transition in the singlet Majoron extension of the Standard Model, with a low (~TeV) scale of the singlet VEV. A strongly first order phase transition, of interest for electroweak baryogenesis, is found in sizeable regions of the parameter space, especially when the cross-coupling lambda_{hs}|S|^2|H|^2 between the singlet and the doublet Higgs is significant. Large Majorana Yukawa couplings of the singlet neutrinos, y_i S nu_i^c nu_i, are also important for strengthening the transition. We incorporate the LEP and Tevatron constraints on the H…
We study the production of scalar leptoquarks at IceCube, in particular, a particle transforming as a triplet under the weak interaction. The existence of electroweak-triplet scalars is highly motivated by models of grand unification and also within radiative seesaw models for neutrino mass generation. In our framework, we extend the Standard Model by a single colored electroweak-triplet scalar leptoquark and analyze its implications on the excess of ultra-high energy neutrino events observed by the IceCube collaboration. We consider only couplings between the leptoquark to first generation le…
We investigate the viability of electroweak baryogenesis in a model with a first order electroweak phase transition induced by the addition of two gauge singlet scalars. A vector-like lepton doublet is introduced in order to provide CP violating interactions with the singlets and Standard Model leptons, and the asymmetry generation dynamics are examined using the vacuum expectation value insertion approximation. We find that such a model is readily capable of generating sufficient baryon asymmetry while satisfying electron electric dipole moment and collider phenomenology constraints.
A two-component scalar DM scenario comprising an additional scalar doublet and a $Y$ = 0 scalar triplet is proposed. Key features of the ensuing dark matter phenomenology are highlighted with emphasis on inter-conversion between the two dark matter components. For suitable choices of the model parameters, we show that such inter-conversion can explain the observed relic abundance when the doublet dark matter component has mass in the \emph{desert} region while the triplet component has sub-TeV mass. This finding is important in the context of such mass regions known to predict under-abundant r…
Among various scenarios of baryon asymmetry of the Universe, electroweak baryogenesis is directly connected with physics of the Higgs sector. We discuss spectra of gravitational waves which are originated by the strongly first order phase transition at the electroweak symmetry breaking, which is required for a successful scenario of electroweak baryogenesis. In the $Z_3$ symmetric singlet scalar model, the significant gravitational waves are caused by the multi-step phase transition. We show that the model can be tested by measuring the characteristic spectra of the gravitational waves at futu…
We consider a model with a gauge singlet Dirac fermion as a cold dark matter candidate. The dark matter particle communicates with the Standard Model via a gauge singlet scalar mediator that couples to the Higgs. The scalar mediator also serves to create a tree-level barrier in the scalar potential which leads to a strongly first order electroweak phase transition as required for Electroweak Baryogenesis. We find a large number of models that can account for all the dark matter and provide a strong phase transition while avoiding constraints from dark matter direct detection, electroweak preci…
The framework of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian with a light Higgs is extended by an additional scalar and then generalized to N scalars in the Higgs sector. Divergences from scalar fluctuations are renormalized up to one loop using the background field method. The results are crosschecked against the case of one scalar. A subset of the divergences is demonstrated and crosschecked diagrammatically. Together with the complete one-loop renormalization of the electroweak chiral theory with one light Higgs conducted previously, this constitutes a renormalization framework of any pure scalar ext…
We investigate the extended Higgs sectors, specially the charged Higgs sector in a supersymmetric $Y=0$ $SU(2)$ triplet and a Standard Model (SM) gauge singlet extension of SM. We show that in this model the allowed data for the Higgs boson interaction eigenstates tend to group into separate blocks for $SU(2)$ triplet, doublet and singlet. The triplet sector has two degenerate paired states, each pair composed of a mostly-triplet charged Higgs and of a mostly-triplet scalar or pseudoscalar state. The mostly-doublet sector involves a Standard Model like Higgs of 125 GeV and extra mass-degenerat…
We consider the possibility that the dark matter particle is a scalar WIMP messenger associated to neutrino mass generation, made stable by the same symmetry responsible for the radiative origin of neutrino mass. We focus on some of the implications of this proposal as realized within the singlet-triplet scotogenic dark matter model. We identify consistent parameter sets consistent both with neutrino mass and the observed dark matter abundance. Finally we characterize the expected phenomenological profile of heavy Higgs boson physics at the LHC as well as at future linear Colliders.
We study a scalar singlet dark matter (DM) having mass in sub-TeV regime by extending the minimal scalar singlet DM setup by additional vector like fermions. While the minimal scalar singlet DM satisfies the relic and direct detection constraints for mass beyond TeV only, presence of its portal coupling with vector like fermions opens up additional co-annihilation channels. These vector like fermions also help in achieving electroweak vacuum stability all the way up to Planck scale. We find that for one generation of vector like quarks consisting of a $SU(2)_L$ doublet and a singlet, scalar si…
We explore the use of the Inverse Amplitude Method for unitarization of scattering amplitudes to derive the existence and properties of possible new heavy states associated with perturbative extensions of the electroweak breaking sector of the Standard Model starting from the low energy effective theory. We use a toy effective theory generated by integrating out a heavy singlet scalar and compare the pole mass and width of the unitarized amplitudes with those of the original model. Our results show that the Inverse Amplitude Method reproduces correctly the singlet mass up to factors of O(1-3),…
The Supersymmetric Custodial Triplet Model, a supersymmetric generalization of the Georgi-Machacek model, has proven to be an interesting modification of the MSSM. It extends the MSSM Higgs sector by three extra SU(2)L triplets in such a way that approximate custodial invariance is preserved and rho-parameter deviations are kept under control. By means of a sizeable triplet contribution to electroweak breaking the model is able to generate a barrier at tree level between the false vacuum and the electroweak one. This will result in a strong first order phase transition for an important region …
We study the dynamics of electroweak phase transition in a simple extension of the Standard Model where the Higgs sector is extended by adding an $SU(2)_L$-triplet with hypercharge Y=2. By making random scans over the parameters of the model, we show that there are regions consistent with constraints from collider experiments and the requirement for a strong first-order electroweak phase transition which is needed for electroweak baryogenesis. Further, we also study the power spectrum of the gravitational waves which can be generated due to the first-order phase transitions. Moreover, the dete…
It is widely believed that the existence of singlet scalars in some Standard Model extensions can easily make the electroweak phase transition strongly first order, which is needed for the electroweak baryogenesis scenario. In this paper, we will examine the strength of the electroweak phase transition in the simplest extension of the Standard Model with a real singlet using the sphaleron energy at the critical temperature. We find that the phase transition is stronger by adding a singlet; and also that the criterion for a strong phase transition Omega (Tc)/Tc>1, where Omega =(v^2+(x-x0)^2)^(1…
In this paper, we present the one-loop radiative corrections to the electroweak precision observable $Δρ$ coming from the $I_W=1$ multiplet excited leptons. We have calculated the couplings of the exotic lepton triplet to the vector bosons and ordinary leptons using effective Lagrangian approach. These couplings are then used to estimate the excited lepton triplet contribution to the $Δρ$ parameter. The mass degenerate excited lepton contribution to $Δρ$ is small and can be neglected. However, if the excited leptons are non-degenerate, their contribution can be large which can result in more s…
We study several aspects of electroweak vacuum metastability when an extra gauge singlet scalar, a viable candidate for a dark matter particle, is added to the standard model of particle physics, which is assumed to be valid up to the Planck scale. Phase diagrams are drawn for different parameter spaces, and based on that, we graphically demonstrate how the confidence level, at which stability of electroweak vacuum is excluded, depends on such new physics parameters.
We analyse a simple extension of the SM with just an additional scalar singlet coupled to the Higgs boson. We discuss the possible probes for electroweak baryogenesis in this model including collider searches, gravitational wave and direct dark matter detection signals. We show that a large portion of the model parameter space exists where the observation of gravitational waves would allow detection while the indirect collider searches would not.
We analyze the collider signatures of the real singlet extension of the Standard Model in regions consistent with a strong first-order electroweak phase transition and a singlet-like scalar heavier than the Standard Model-like Higgs. A definitive correlation exists between the strength of the phase transition and the trilinear coupling of the Higgs to two singlet-like scalars, and hence between the phase transition and non-resonant scalar pair production involving the singlet at colliders. We study the prospects for observing these processes at the LHC and a future 100 TeV $pp$ collider, focus…
Models with singlet fields coupling to the Higgs can enable a strongly first order electroweak phase transition, of interest for baryogenesis and gravity waves. We improve on previous attempts to self-consistently solve for the bubble wall properties -- wall speed $v_w$ and shape -- in a highly predictive class of models with $Z_2$-symmetric singlet potentials. A new algorithm is implemented to determine $v_w$ and the wall profiles throughout the singlet parameter space in the case of subsonic walls, focusing on models with strong enough phase transitions to satisfy the sphaleron washout const…
We consider a real scalar singlet field which provides a strong first-order electroweak phase transition via its coupling to the Higgs boson, and gives a $CP$ violating contribution on the top quark mass via a dimension-6 operator. We study the correlation between the baryon-to-entropy ratio produced by electroweak baryogenesis, and the gravitational wave signal from the electroweak phase transition. We show that future gravitational wave experiments can test, in particular, the region of the model parameter space where the observed baryon-to-entropy ratio can be obtained even if the new physi…
The recent high precision measurement of $W$ boson mass by CDF-II collaboration points to the contribution(s) of new physics beyond the Standard Model. One of the minimalistic ways to account for the anomalous $W$ boson mass is by introducing a hyperchargeless real $SU(2)_L$ triplet scalar whose vacuum expectation value explicitly contributes to the $W$ boson mass at the tree level while the $Z$ boson mass remains the same. Such a triplet can be naturally embedded in a singlet-triplet scotogenic model for one loop neutrino mass generated by dark sector particles running in the loop. We discuss…
The standard picture of electroweak baryogenesis requires slowly expanding bubbles. This can be difficult to achieve if the vacuum expectation value of a gauge singlet scalar field changes appreciably during the electroweak phase transition. It is important to determine the bubble wall velocity in this case, since the predicted baryon asymmetry can depend sensitively on its value. Here, this calculation is discussed and illustrated in the real singlet extension of the Standard Model. The friction on the bubble wall is computed using a kinetic theory approach and including hydrodynamic effects.…
We compute the baryon asymmetry generated from Cold Electroweak Baryogenesis, when a dynamical Beyond-the-Standard-Model scalar singlet field triggers the spinodal transition. Using a simple potential for this additional field, we match the speed of the quench to earlier simulations with a "by-hand" mass flip. We find that for the parameter subspace most similar to a by-hand transition, the final baryon asymmetry shows a similar dependence on quench time and is of the same magnitude. For more general parameter choices the Higgs-singlet dynamics can be very complicated, resulting in an enhancem…
