With the development of the super-resolution convolutional neural network (SRCNN), deep learning technique has been widely applied in the field of image super-resolution. Previous works mainly focus on optimizing the structure of SRCNN, which have been achieved well performance in speed and restoration quality for image super-resolution. However, most of these approaches only consider a specific scale image during the training process, while ignoring the relationship between different scales of images. Motivated by this concern, in this paper, we propose a cascaded convolution neural network for image super-resolution (CSRCNN), which includes three cascaded Fast SRCNNs and each Fast SRCNN can process a specific scale image. Images of different scales can be trained simultaneously and the learned network can make full use of the information resided in different scales of images. Extensive experiments show that our network can achieve well performance for image SR.
This study proposes a convolutional nonlinear dictionary (CNLD) for image restoration using cascaded filter banks. Generally, convolutional neural networks (CNN) demonstrate their practicality in image restoration applications; however, existing CNNs are constructed without considering the relationship among atomic images (convolution kernels). As a result, there remains room for discussing the role of design spaces. To provide a framework for constructing an effective and structured convolutional network, this study proposes the CNLD. The backpropagation learning procedure is derived from cer…
We propose methodologies to train highly accurate and efficient deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for image super resolution (SR). A cascade training approach to deep learning is proposed to improve the accuracy of the neural networks while gradually increasing the number of network layers. Next, we explore how to improve the SR efficiency by making the network slimmer. Two methodologies, the one-shot trimming and the cascade trimming, are proposed. With the cascade trimming, the network's size is gradually reduced layer by layer, without significant loss on its discriminative ability.…

Different from previous learning-based methods, we propose a flexible cascaded CNN for single hazy image restoration, which considers the m…

Image denoising techniques are essential to reducing noise levels and enhancing diagnosis reliability in low-dose computed tomography (CT). Machine learning based denoising methods have shown great potential in removing the complex and spatial-variant noises in CT images. However, some residue artifacts would appear in the denoised image due to complexity of noises. A cascaded training network was proposed in this work, where the trained CNN was applied on the training dataset to initiate new trainings and remove artifacts induced by denoising. A cascades of convolutional neural networks (CNN)…
The deep convolutional neural networks have achieved significant improvements in accuracy and speed for single image super-resolution. However, as the depth of network grows, the information flow is weakened and the training becomes harder and harder. On the other hand, most of the models adopt a single-stream structure with which integrating complementary contextual information under different receptive fields is difficult. To improve information flow and to capture sufficient knowledge for reconstructing the high-frequency details, we propose a cascaded multi-scale cross network (CMSC) in wh…

In this paper we address the problem of hallucinating high-resolution facial images from unaligned low-resolution inputs at high magnification factors. We approach the problem with convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and propose a novel (deep) face hallucination model that incorporates identity priors into the learning procedure. The model consists of two main parts: i) a cascaded super-resolution network that upscales the low-resolution images, and ii) an ensemble of face recognition models that act as identity priors for the super-resolution network during training. Different from competing…
Face Alignment is an active computer vision domain, that consists in localizing a number of facial landmarks that vary across datasets. State-of-the-art face alignment methods either consist in end-to-end regression, or in refining the shape in a cascaded manner, starting from an initial guess. In this paper, we introduce DeCaFA, an end-to-end deep convolutional cascade architecture for face alignment. DeCaFA uses fully-convolutional stages to keep full spatial resolution throughout the cascade. Between each cascade stage, DeCaFA uses multiple chained transfer layers with spatial softmax to pr…

Face detection is challenging as faces in images could be present at arbitrary locations and in different scales. We propose a three-stage cascade structure based on fully convolutional neural networks (FCNs). It first proposes the approximate locations where the faces may be, then aims to find the accurate location by zooming on to the faces. Each level of the FCN cascade is a multi-scale fully-convolutional network, which generates scores at different locations and in different scales. A score map is generated after each FCN stage. Probable regions of face are selected and fed to the next st…
