Let $ K $ be a number field, $ S $ a finite set of places of $ K $, and $ \mathcal{O}_S $ be the ring of $ S $-integers. Moreover, let $$ G_n^{(0)} Z^d + \cdots + G_n^{(d-1)} Z + G_n^{(d)} $$ be a polynomial in $ Z $ having simple linear recurrences of integers evaluated at $ n $ as coefficients. Assuming some technical conditions we give a description of the zeros $ (n,z) \in \mathbb{N} \times \mathcal{O}_S $ of the above polynomial. We also give a result in the spirit of Hilbert irreducibility for such polynomials.
We discuss a problem initially thought for the Mathematical Olympiad but which has several interpretations. The recurrence sequences involved in this problem may be generalized to recurrence sequences related to a much larger set of diophantine equations.
We obtain new recurrence relations, an explicit formula, and convolution identities for higher order geometric polynomials. These relations generalize known results for geometric polynomials, and lead to congruences for higher order geometric polynomials, particularly for p-Bernoulli numbers.
In \cite{luo2006,luosri2005}, Luo and Srivastava introduced some generalizations of the Apostol -Bernoulli polynomials and the Apostol-Euler polynomials. The main object of this paper is to extend the result of \cite{prevost2010} to these generalized polynomials. More precisely, using the Padé approximation of the exponential function, we obtain recurrence relations for Apostol-Bernoulli, Euler and also Genocchi polynomials of higher order. As an application we prove lacunary relation for some particular cases.
Let $\{B_n\}$, $\{B_n(x)\}$ and $\{E_n(x)\}$ be the Bernoulli numbers, Bernoulli polynomials and Euler polynomials, respectively. In this paper we mainly establish formulas for $\sum_{6\mid k-3}\binom nkB_{n-k}(x)$, $\sum_{6\mid k}\binom nkE_{n-k}(x)$ and $\sum_{6\mid k-3}\binom nkm^kB_{n-k}$ in the cases $m=2,3,4$.
We study elements of second order linear recurrence sequences $(G_n)_{n= 0}^{\infty}$ of polynomials in $\mathbb{C}[x]$ which are decomposable, i.e. representable as $G_n=g\circ h$ for some $g, h\in \mathbb{C}[x]$ satisfying $\operatorname{deg}g,\operatorname{deg}h>1$. Under certain assumptions, and provided that $h$ is not of particular type, we show that $\operatorname{deg}g$ may be bounded by a constant independent of $n$, depending only on the sequence.
Let $n$ and $n'$ be positive integers such that $n-n'\in \{0,1\}$. Let $F$ be either $\mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$. Let $K_n$ and $K_{n'}$ be maximal compact subgroups of $\mathrm{GL}(n,F)$ and $\mathrm{GL}(n',F)$, respectively. We give the explicit descriptions of archimedean Rankin--Selberg integrals at the minimal $K_n$- and $K_{n'}$-types for pairs of principal series representations of $\mathrm{GL}(n,F)$ and $\mathrm{GL}(n',F)$, using their recurrence relations. Our results for $F=\mathbb{C}$ can be applied to the arithmetic study of critical values of automorphic $L$-functions.
Let $(G_n(x))_{n=0}^\infty$ be a $d$-th order linear recurrence sequence having polynomial characteristic roots, one of which has degree strictly greater than the others. Moreover, let $m\geq 2$ be a given integer. We ask for $n\in\mathbb{N}$ such that the equation $G_n(x)=g\circ h$ is satisfied for a polynomial $g\in\mathbb{C}[x]$ with deg$g=m$ and some polynomial $h\in\mathbb{C}[x]$ with deg$h>1$. We prove that for all but finitely many $n$ these decompositions can be described in "finite terms" coming from a generic decomposition parameterized by an algebraic variety. All data in this descr…
Let $F$ be an integral linear recurrence, $G$ be an integer-valued polynomial splitting over the rationals, and $h$ be a positive integer. Also, let $\mathcal{A}_{F,G,h}$ be the set of all natural numbers $n$ such that $\gcd(F(n), G(n)) = h$. We prove that $\mathcal{A}_{F,G,h}$ has a natural density. Moreover, assuming $F$ is non-degenerate and $G$ has no fixed divisors, we show that $\mathbf{d}(\mathcal{A}_{F,G,1}) = 0$ if and only if $\mathcal{A}_{F,G,1}$ is finite.
Let $F$ and $G$ be linear recurrences over a number field $\mathbb{K}$, and let $\mathfrak{R}$ be a finitely generated subring of $\mathbb{K}$. Furthermore, let $\mathcal{N}$ be the set of positive integers $n$ such that $G(n) \neq 0$ and $F(n) / G(n) \in \mathfrak{R}$. Under mild hypothesis, Corvaja and Zannier proved that $\mathcal{N}$ has zero asymptotic density. We prove that $\#(\mathcal{N} \cap [1, x]) \ll x \cdot (\log\log x / \log x)^h$ for all $x \geq 3$, where $h$ is a positive integer that can be computed in terms of $F$ and $G$. Assuming the Hardy-Littlewood $k$-tuple conjecture, o…
We give a simplified presentation of some results about recurrences of certain sequences of binomial sums in terms of (generalized) Fibonacci and Lucas polynomials.
The degree sequence of the algebraic numbers in an algebraic linear recurrence sequence is shown to be virtually periodic. This is proved using the Skolem-Mahler-Lech theorem. It has applications to the degree sequence and the minimal polynomial sequence for exponential sums over finite fields. The degree periodicity also holds for some more complicated non-linear recurrence sequences. We give one example from the iterations of a polynomial map. This depending on the dynamic Mordell-Lang conjecture which has been proved in some cases.
Using purely combinatorial means we obtain results on simultaneous Diophantine approximation modulo 1 for systems of polynomials with real coefficients and no constant term.
We recast homogeneous linear recurrence sequences with fixed coefficients in terms of partial Bell polynomials, and use their properties to obtain various combinatorial identities and multifold convolution formulas. Our approach relies on a basis of sequences that can be obtained as the INVERT transform of the coefficients of the given recurrence relation. For such a basis sequence $(y_n)$ with generating function $Y(t)$, and for any positive integer $r$, we give a formula for the convolved sequence generated by $Y(t)^r$ and prove that it satisfies an elegant recurrence relation.
We determine closed and compact expressions for the epsilon-expansion of certain Gaussian hypergeometric functions expanded around half-integer values by explicitly solving for their recurrence relations. This epsilon-expansion is identified with the normalized solution of the underlying Fuchs system of four regular singular points. We compute its regularized zeta series (giving rise to two independent associators) whose ratio gives the epsilon-expansion at a specific value. Furthermore, we use the well known one-loop massive bubble integral as an example to demonstrate how to obtain all-order…
Following an approach presented by N. Frantzikinakis, B. Host and B. Kra, we show that the parameters in the multidimensional Szemerédi theorem for closest integer polynomials have non-empty intersection with the set of shifted primes $\mathbb{P}-1$ (or similarly of $\mathbb{P}+1$). Using the Furstenberg Correspondence Principle, we show this result by recasting it as a polynomial multiple recurrence result in measure ergodic theory. Furthermore, we obtain integer part polynomial convergence results by the same method, which is a transference principle that enables one to deduce results for $\…
In this paper we show how polynomial walks can be used to establish a twisted recurrence for sets of positive density in $\mathbb{Z}^d$. In particular, we prove that if $Γ\leq \operatorname{GL}_d(\mathbb{Z})$ is finitely generated by unipotents and acts irreducibly on $\mathbb{R}^d$, then for any set $B \subset \mathbb{Z}^d$ of positive density, there exists $k \geq 1$ such that for any $v \in k \mathbb{Z}^d$ one can find $γ\in Γ$ with $γv \in B - B$. Our method does not require the linearity of the action, and we prove a twisted recurrence for semigroups of maps from $\mathbb{Z}^d$ to $\mathb…
