Pseudogap in hole-doped cuprate superconductors is acknowledged as a possible key to understanding their ground normal state, however, existing pseudogap models have essential inconsistencies with experiments. In our approach pseudogap emerges due to impact of autolocalized carriers on stationary states of delocalized ones and topology of the 2D hole-like dispersion. Autolocalized carriers create potential which transforms Bloch quasiparticles into distributed wave packets (DWPs) with different momentums in areas with different potential. Topology of hole-like constant energy curves in 2D-conducting cuprates forbids DWPs with average momentums near antinode. Manifestation of permitted DWPs in ARPES spectra demonstrates all known pseudogap features including midpoint shift, giant broadening and Fermi momentum misalignment. Calculated doping dependence of the pseudogap width and onset temperature agrees with experiments. The obtained ground normal state of the hole-doped cuprates, in which all the doped holes are autolocalized until high doping is reached and near-antinodal electron DWPs are absent, explains Fermi surface reconstruction from small electron pocket to large hole-like Fermi surface observed in quantum oscillation measurements. Our results open a possibility of creating systems with artificial pseudogap and switchable density of states on the base of highly polarizable layered structures with 2D conductivity and hole-like dispersion.
We present NMR measurements of the layered nitride superconductor Li_xZrNCl. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate, 1/T_1, shows that the coherence peak is strongly suppressed in Li_xZrNCl in contrast to conventional BCS superconductors. In the lightly-doped region close to the insulating state, the system shows a gap-like behavior, i.e., pseudogap, that is characterized by a reduction in the magnitude of the Knight shift and 1/T_1T. A higher superconducting (SC) transition temperature, T_c, is achieved by coexisting with the pseudogap state. These unusual behaviors, which deviate from the …
In this study, the pairing mechanism for layered HTS materials based on attraction between electrons from adjacent layers is proposed. Initially, each layer has expanded Fermi sphere owing to ridged geometry. When the two layers are close enough for tunneling, it becomes energetically advantageous to form correlated quantum states (CQS), reducing the Fermi sphere volume. Cooper pairs, comprising inter-tunneling electrons, occupy the CQS. The image force is responsible for the electron-electron attraction. Pair-binding energy and the corresponding effective mass vary in a wide range. At T>0, so…
We report on the phase diagram of antiferromagnetism (AFM) and superconductivity (SC) in three-layered Ba_2Ca_2Cu_3O_6(F,O)_2 by means of Cu-NMR measurements. It is demonstrated that AFM and SC uniformly coexist in three-layered compounds as well as in four- and five-layered ones. The critical hole density p_c for the long range AFM order is determined as p_c ~ 0.075, which is larger than p_c ~ 0.02 and 0.055 in single- and bi-layered compounds, and smaller than p_c ~ 0.08-0.09 and 0.10-0.11 in four- and five-layered compounds, respectively. This variation of p_c is attributed to the magnetic …
The magnetic field and temperature dependence of the in-plane tunneling conductance $dI/dV(V)$ in high-quality nonsuperconducting (down to 10 mK) layered oxycarbonate Bi$_{2+x}$Sr$_{4-x}$Cu$_2$CO$_3$O$_{8+δ}$ single crystals has been investigated using break junctions. Combining measurements of the in-plane magnetoresistivity $ρ_{ab}(T,H)$ and the magnetotunneling, we present evidence for the existence of a small "pseudogap" in a nonsuperconducting cuprate, without local incoherent pairs or any correlation phenomena associated with superconductivity. We are unable to distinguish if such a "pse…
Superconducting Gap and Pseudogap in Sm(O$_{1-x}$F$_x$)FeAs Layered Superconductor from Photoemission Spectroscopy
对非超导的SmOFeAs母体化合物和超导的Sm(O $_{1-x}$ F $_x$)FeAs(x=0.12和0.15)化合物进行了高分辨光电子能谱测量。
We derive analytic expressions for the critical temperatures of the superconducting (SC) and pseudogap (PG) phases of the high-Tc cuprates, which are in excellent agreement with the experimental data for single-layered materials such as LSCO, Bi2201 and Hg1201. Our effective Hamiltonian, defined in the oxygen square sub-lattices formed by the alternate hybridization of $p_x$ and $p_y$ orbitals with the $3d$ copper orbitals, provides an unified explanation for the $d_{x^2-y^2}$ symmetry of both the SC and PG order parameters. Attractive and repulsive interactions involve holes of the two differ…
Quasiparticles and Energy Scaling in Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_{n-1}$Cu$_n$O$_{2n+4}$ ($\it{n}$=1-3): Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy
By using high magnetic field data to estimate the background conductivity, Rullier-Albenque and coworkers have recently published [Phys.Rev.B 84, 014522 (2011)] experimental evidence that the in-plane paraconductivity in cuprates is almost independent of doping. In this Comment we also show that, in contrast with their claims, these useful data may be explained at a quantitative level in terms of the Gaussian-Ginzburg-Landau approach for layered superconductors, extended by Carballeira and coworkers to high reduced-temperatures by introducing a total-energy cutoff [Phys.Rev.B 63, 144515 (2001)…
We have performed high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on single-layered cuprate Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CuO$_6$ to clarify the origin of the pseudogap. By using various photon energies, we have succeeded in directly observing two different pseudogaps with two different energy scales which coexist in the antinodal region: one reflects the $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave pairing strength while the other has a larger energy scale suggesting an origin distinct from superconductivity. The observed two-pseudogap behavior provides a key to fully understand the pseudogap phenomena in cuprates.
We derive analytic expressions for the critical temperatures of the superconducting (SC) and pseudogap (PG) transitions of the high-Tc cuprates as a function of doping. These are in excellent agreement with the experimental data both for single-layered materials such as LSCO, Bi2201 and Hg1201 and multi-layered ones, such as Bi2212, Bi2223, Hg1212 and Hg1223. Optimal doping occurs when the chemical potential vanishes, thus leading to an universal expression for the optimal SC transition temperatures. This allows for the obtainment of a quantitative description of the growth of such temperature…
Layered doped Mott insulators, such as the cuprates, show unusual temperature dependence of the resistivity. Intriguingly, the resistivity perpendicular to the CuO$_2$ planes, $ρ_c(T)$, shows both metallic ($dρ_c/dT > 0$) and semi-conducting ($dρ_c/dT<0$) behavior. We shed light on this puzzle by calculating $ρ_c$ for the two-dimensional Hubbard model within plaquette cellular dynamical mean-field theory and strong-coupling continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo as the impurity solver. The temperature, $T$, and doping, $δ$, dependencies of $ρ_c$ are controlled by the first-order transition betwee…
In two-dimensional lattices the electronic levels are unevenly spaced, and the density of states (DOS) displays a logarithmic divergence known as the Van Hove singularity (VHS). This is the case in particular for the layered cuprate superconductors. The scanning tunneling microscope (STM) probes the DOS, and is therefore the ideal tool to observe the VHS. No STM study of cuprate superconductors has reported such an observation so far giving rise to a debate about the possibility of observing directly the normal state DOS in the tunneling spectra. In this study, we show for the first time that …
Free energy of a two-liquid system of charge carriers in strongly coupled electron and phonon fields and common nature of three phases in hole-doped cuprates
Scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) measurements were carried out on a multi-layered cuprate superconductor Ba$_2$Ca$_5$Cu$_6$O$_{12}$(O$_{1-x}$,F$_x$)$_2$. STM topography revealed random spot structures with the characteristic length $\le 0.5$ nm. The conductance spectra dI/dV(V) show the coexistence of smaller gaps $Δ_S$ and large gaps (pseudogaps) $Δ_L$. The pseudogap-related features in the superconducting state were traced with the spatial resolution of $\sim$ 0.07 nm. Here, $I$ and $V$ are the tunnel current and bias voltage, respectively. The temperature, $T$, dependenc…
The layered ternary sp conductor NaAlSi, possessing the iron-pnictide "111" crystal structure, superconducts at 7 K. Using density functional methods, we show that this compound is an intrinsic (self-doped) low-carrier-density semimetal with a number of unusual features. Covalent Al-Si valence bands provide the holes, and free-electron-like Al 3s bands, which propagate in the channel between the neighboring Si layers, dip just below the Fermi level to create the electron carriers. The Fermi level (and therefore the superconducting carriers) lies in a narrow and sharp peak within a pseudogap in…
