Logarithmic differential forms and logarithmic vector fields associated to a hypersurface with an isolated singularity are considered in the context of computational complex analysis. As applications, based on the concept of torsion differential forms due to A.G. Aleksandrov, regular meromorphic differential forms introduced by D. Barlet and M. Kersken, and Brieskorn formulae on Gauss-Manin connections are investigated. (i) A method is given to describe singular parts of regular meromorphic differential forms in terms of non-trivial logarithmic vector fields via Saito's logarithmic residues. The resulting algorithm is illustrated by using examples. (ii) A new link between Brieskorn formulae and logarithmic vector fields is discovered and an expression that rewrites Brieskorn formulae in terms of non-trivial logarithmic vector fields is presented. A new effective method is described to compute non trivial logarithmic vector fields which are suitable for the computation of Gauss-Manin connections. Some examples are given for illustration.
We introduce meromorphic nearby cycle functors and study their functorial properties. Moreover we apply them to monodromies of meromorphic functions in various situations. Combinatorial descriptions of their reduced Hodge spectra and Jordan normal forms will be obtained.
Kyoji Saito defined a residue map from the logarithmic differential 1-forms along a reduced complex analytic hypersurface to the meromorphic functions on the hypersurface. He studied the condition that the image of this map coincides with the weakly holomorphic functions, that is, with the functions on the normalization. With Michel Granger, the author proved that this condition is equivalent to the hypersurface being normal crossing in codimension one. In this article, the condition is given a natural interpretation in terms of regular differential forms beyond the hypersurface case. For redu…
The goal of this article is to provide an explicit algorithmic construction of formal $F$-manifold structures, formal Frobenius manifold structures, and higher residue pairings on the primitive middle-dimensional cohomology $\mathbb{H}$ of a smooth projective Calabi-Yau complete intersection variety $X$ defined by homogeneous polynomials $G_1(\underline x), \dots, G_k(\underline x)$. Our main method is to analyze a certain dGBV (differential Gerstenhaber-Batalin-Vilkovisky) algebra $\mathcal{A}$ obtained from the twisted de Rham complex which computes $\mathbb{H}$. More explicitly, we introduc…
We study the local invariants that a meromorphic $k$-differential on a Riemann surface of genus $g\geq0$ can have. These local invariants are the orders of zeros and poles, and the $k$-residues at the poles. We show that for a given pattern of orders of zeroes, there exists, up to a few exceptions, a primitive $k$-differential having these orders of zero. The same is true for meromorphic $k$-differentials and in this case, we describe the tuples of complex numbers that can appear as $k$-residues at their poles. For genus $g\geq2$, it turns out that every expected tuple appears as $k$-residues.…
K. Kato's conjecture about the cohomological Hasse principle for regular connected schemes $\mathfrak X$ which are flat and proper over the complete discrete valuation rings $\mathcal O_N$ of higher local fields $F_N$ is proven. This generalizes the work of M. Kerz, S. Saito and U. Jannsen for finite fields to the case of all higher local fields. For that purpose a $p$-alteration theorem for the local uniformization of schemes over valuation rings of arbitrary finite rank and a corresponding Bertini theorem is developed extending the results of O. Gabber, J. deJong, L. Illusie, M. Temkin, S. S…
M. Levine proved an enrichment of the classical Riemann-Hurwitz formula to an equality in the Grothendieck-Witt group of quadratic forms. In its strongest form, Levine's theorem includes a technical hypothesis on ramification relevant in positive characteristic. We consider wild ramification at points whose residue fields are non-separable extensions of the ground field k. We show an analogous Riemann-Hurwitz formula, and consider an example suggested by S. Saito.
Kyoji Saito's notion of a free divisor was generalized by the first author to reduced Gorenstein spaces and by Delphine Pol to reduced Cohen-Macaulay spaces. Starting point is the Aleksandrov-Terao theorem: A hypersurface is free if and only if its Jacobian ideal is maximal Cohen-Macaulay. Pol obtains a generalized Jacobian ideal as a cokernel by dualizing Aleksandrov's multi-logarithmic residue sequence. Notably it is essentially a suitably chosen complete intersection ideal that is used for dualizing. Pol shows that this generalized Jacobian ideal is maximal Cohen-Macaulay if and only if the…
An old theorem of Weil and Kodaira says that for a compact Kähler manifold $X$ there is a closed logarithmic $1$-form with residue divisor $D$ if and only if $D$ is homologous to zero in $H_{2n-2}(X,\mathbb C)$. In the first part of this paper, we generalize the above theorem to general compact complex manifolds by showing that the necessary and sufficient condition in general is described by a holomorphic invariant called the $\mathcal Q$-flat class. Next, we prove that the holomorphic criterion is reduced to the topological one when $X$ has Property $(H)$. Since all Kähler manifolds have Pro…
Given a complete real-valued field $k$ of residue characteristic zero, we study properties of a meromorphic $q$-differential form $ξ$ (a section of $Ω_X^{\otimes q}$) on a smooth proper $k$-analytic curve $X$. In particular, we associate to $(X,ξ)$ a natural tropical reduction datum combining tropical-geometric data over the value group of $|k^\times|$ and algebro-geometric reduction data over the residue field $\widetilde{k}$. We show that this datum satisfies natural compatibility conditions, and prove a lifting theorem asserting that any compatible tropical reduction datum lifts to an actua…
The local invariants of a meromorphic Abelian differential on a Riemann surface of genus $g$ are the orders of zeros and poles, and the residues at the poles. The main result of this paper is that with few exceptions, every pattern of orders and residues can be obtain by an Abelian differential. These exceptions are two families in genus zero when the orders of the poles are either all simple or all nonsimple. Moreover, we even show that the pattern can be realized in each connected component of strata. Finally we give consequences of these results in algebraic and flat geometry. The main ingr…
The purpose of this paper is to investigate properties of the minimal free resolution of the modules of multi-logarithmic forms along a reduced equidimensional subspace. We first consider a notion of freeness for reduced complete intersections, and more generally for reduced equidimensional subspaces embedded in a smooth manifold, which generalizes the notion of Saito free divisors. The first main result is a characterization of freeness in terms of the projective dimension of the module of multi-logarithmic k -forms, where k is the codimension. We also prove that there is a perfect pairing be…
Using the embedding of the moduli space of generalized GL(n) Hitchin's spectral covers to the moduli space of meromorphic abelian differentials we study the variational formulae of the period matrix, the canonical bidifferential, the prime form and the Bergman tau function. This leads to residue formulae which generalize the Donagi-Markman formula for variations of the period matrix. Computation of second derivatives of the period matrix reproduces the formula derived by Baraglia and Zhenxi Huang using the framework of topological recursion.
We give a simple proof of the uniqueness of extensions of good sections for formal Brieskorn lattices, which can be used in a paper of C. Li, S. Li, and K. Saito for the proof of convergence in the non-quasihomogeneous polynomial case. Our proof uses an exponential operator argument as in their paper, although we do not use polyvector fields nor smooth differential forms. We also present an apparently simpler algorithm for an inductive calculation of the coefficients of primitive forms in the Brieskorn-Pham polynomial case. In a previous paper on the structure of Brieskorn lattices, there were…
