By using a regularity approximation argument, the global existence and uniqueness are derived for a class of nonlinear SPDEs depending on both the whole history and the distribution under strong enough noise. As applications, the global existence and uniqueness are proved for distribution-path dependent stochastic transport type equations, which are arising from stochastic fluid mechanics with forces depending on the history and the environment. In particular, the distribution-path dependent stochastic Camassa--Holm equation with or without Coriolis effect has a unique global solution when the noise is strong enough, whereas for the deterministic model wave-breaking may occur. This indicates that the noise may prevent blow-up almost surely.
We give meaning to linear and semi-linear (possibly degenerate) parabolic partial differential equations with (affine) linear rough path noise and establish stability in a rough path metric. In the case of enhanced Brownian motion (Brownian motion with its Lévy area) as rough path noise the solution coincides with the standard variational solution of the SPDE.
We consider a nonlinear stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) in divergence form where the forcing term is a Gaussian noise, that is white in time and colored in space such that the gradient of the solution is Hölder-continuous, but not differentiable. Then, we prove a generalized Taylor expansion of the difference between the solution to the SPDE and the solution to its linearization around a fixed basepoint. The result is reminiscent of the theory of (controlled) rough paths and agrees with the general observation, that, in settings with a rough driver, subtracting the solution to …
We survey some of our recent results on existence, uniqueness and regularity of function solutions to parabolic and transport type partial differential equations driven by non-differentiable noises. When applied pathwise to random situations, they provide corresponding statements for stochastic partial differential equations driven by fractional noises of sufficiently high regularity order. The approach is based on semigroup theory.
We present two criteria to conclude that a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) posseses a unique maximal strong solution. This paper provides the full details of the abstract well-posedness results first given in arXiv:2202.09242v2, and partners a paper which rigorously addresses applications to the 3D SALT (Stochastic Advection by Lie Transport) Navier-Stokes Equation in velocity and vorticity form, on the torus and the bounded domain respectively. Each criterion has its corresponding set of assumptions and can be applied to viscous fluid equations with additive, multiplicative or…
In this paper we study the regularity of non-linear parabolic PDEs and stochastic PDEs on metric measure spaces admitting heat kernels. In particular we consider mild function solutions to abstract Cauchy problems and show that the unique solution is Hölder continuous in time with values in a suitable fractional Sobolev space. As this analysis is done via a-priori estimates, we can apply this result to stochastic PDEs on metric measure spaces and solve the equation in a pathwise sense for almost all paths. The main example of noise term is of fractional Brownian type and the metric measure spa…
In this article, we show how the theory of rough paths can be used to provide a notion of solution to a class of nonlinear stochastic PDEs of Burgers type that exhibit too high spatial roughness for classical analytical methods to apply. In fact, the class of SPDEs that we consider is genuinely ill-posed in the sense that different approximations to the nonlinearity may converge to different limits. Using rough paths theory, a pathwise notion of solution to these SPDEs is formulated, and we show that this yields a well-posed problem, which is stable under a large class of perturbations, includ…
We discuss regular and weak solutions to rough partial differential equations (RPDEs), thereby providing a (rough path-)wise view on important classes of SPDEs. In contrast to many previous works on RPDEs, our definition gives honest meaning to RPDEs as integral equation, based on which we are able to obtain existence, uniqueness and stability results. The case of weak "rough" forward equations, may be seen as robustification of the (measure-valued) Zakai equation in the rough path sense. Feynman-Kac representation for RPDEs, in formal analogy to similar classical results in SPDE theory, play …
We prove global well-posedness for a class of dissipative semilinear stochastic evolution equations with singular drift and multiplicative Wiener noise. In particular, the nonlinear term in the drift is the superposition operator associated to a maximal monotone graph everywhere defined on the real line, on which no continuity nor growth assumptions are imposed. The hypotheses on the diffusion coefficient are also very general, in the sense that the noise does not need to take values in spaces of continuous, or bounded, functions in space and time. Our approach combines variational techniques …
We are interested in (uniformly) parabolic PDEs with a nonlinear dependance of the leading-order coefficients, driven by a rough right hand side. For simplicity, we consider a space-time periodic setting with a single spatial variable: \begin{equation*} \partial_2u -P( a(u)\partial_1^2u - σ(u)f ) =0 \end{equation*} where $P$ is the projection on mean-zero functions, and $f$ is a distribution and only controlled in the low regularity norm of $ C^{α-2}$ for $α> \frac{2}{3}$ on the parabolic Hölder scale. The example we have in mind is a random forcing $f$ and our assumptions allow, for example, …
We prove $L^{p}$-uniqueness of Dirichlet operators for Gibbs measures on the path space $C(\mathbb R, \mathbb R^{d})$ associated with exponential type interactions in infinite volume by extending an SPDE approach presented in previous work by the last two named authors. We also give an SPDE characterization of the corresponding dynamics. In particular, we prove existence and uniqueness of a strong solution for the SPDE, though the self-interaction potential is not assumed to be differentiable, hence the drift is possibly discontinuous. As examples, to which our results apply, we mention the st…
We prove existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for a class of semilinear stochastic evolution equations driven by general Hilbert space-valued semimartingales, with drift equal to the sum of a linear maximal monotone operator in variational form and of the superposition operator associated to a random time-dependent monotone function defined on the whole real line. Such a function is only assumed to satisfy a very mild symmetry-like condition, but its rate of growth towards infinity can be arbitrary. Moreover, the noise is of multiplicative type and can be path-dependent. The solution i…
We prove existence and uniqueness of solutions to a class of stochastic semilinear evolution equations with a monotone nonlinear drift term and multiplicative noise, considerably extending corresponding results obtained in previous work of ours. In particular, we assume the initial datum to be only measurable and we allow the diffusion coefficient to be locally Lipschitz-continuous. Moreover, we show, in a quantitative fashion, how the finiteness of the $p$-th moment of solutions depends on the integrability of the initial datum, in the whole range $p \in ]0,\infty[$. Lipschitz continuity of t…

We establish exact, dimension-dependent, spatio-temporal, uniform and local moduli of continuity for (1) the fourth order L-Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (L-KS) SPDEs and for (2) the time-fractional stochastic partial integro-differential equations (SPIDEs), driven by space-time white noise in one-to-three dimensional space. Both classes were introduced---with Brownian-time-type kernel formulations---by Allouba in a series of articles starting in 2006, where he presented class (2) in its rigorous stochastic integral equations form. He proved existence, uniqueness, and sharp spatio-temporal Hölder regul…
We prove pathwise uniqueness for an abstract stochastic reaction-diffusion equation in Banach spaces. The drift contains a bounded Hölder term; in spite of this, due to the space-time white noise it is possible to prove pathwise uniqueness. The proof is based on a detailed analysis of the associated Kolmogorov equation. The model includes examples not covered by the previous works based on Hilbert spaces or concrete SPDEs.
We discuss stochastic calculus for large classes of Gaussian processes, based on rough path analysis. Our key condition is a covariance measure structure combined with a classical criterion due to Jain and Monrad [Ann. Probab. 11 (1983) 46-57]. This condition is verified in many examples, even in absence of explicit expressions for the covariance or Volterra kernels. Of special interest are random Fourier series, with covariance given as Fourier series itself, and we formulate conditions directly in terms of the Fourier coefficients. We also establish convergence and rates of convergence in ro…
We introduce an approach to study certain singular PDEs which is based on techniques from paradifferential calculus and on ideas from the theory of controlled rough paths. We illustrate its applicability on some model problems like differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motion, a fractional Burgers type SPDE driven by space-time white noise, and a non-linear version of the parabolic Anderson model with a white noise potential.
Combining fractional calculus and the Rough Path Theory we study the existence and uniqueness of mild solutions to evolutions equations driven by a Hölder continuous function with Hölder exponent in $(1/3,1/2)$. Our stochastic integral is in some sense a generalization of the well-known Young integral and can be defined independently of the initial condition. Similar to the Rough Path Theory we establish a second variable which is given, roughly speaking, by a tensor product. It is then necessary to formulate a second equation for this new variable, and we do in a mild sense. The crucial point…
The Boussinesq equations are fundamental in meteorology. Among other aspects, they aim to model the process of front formation. We use the approach presented in [Hol15] to introduce stochasticity into the incompressible Boussinesq equations. This is, we introduce cylindrical transport noise in a way that the geometric properties in the Euler-Poincaré formulation are preserved. One of our main results establishes the local well-posedness of regular solutions for these new stochastic Boussinesq equations. We also construct a blow-up criterion and derive some general estimates, which are crucial …
