We consider a compressible Euler system with singular velocity alignment, known as the Euler-alignment system, describing the flocking behaviors of large animal groups. We establish a local well-posedness theory for the system, as well as a global well-posedness theory for small initial data. We also show the asymptotic flocking behavior, where solutions converge to a constant steady state exponentially in time.
We give sufficient conditions on the regularity of solutions to the inhomogeneous incompressible Euler and the compressible isentropic Euler systems in order for the energy to be conserved. Our strategy relies on commutator estimates similar to those employed by P. Constantin et al. for the homogeneous incompressible Euler equations.
We prove the existence of a large class of global-in-time expanding solutions to vacuum free boundary compressible Euler flows without relying on the existence of an underlying finite-dimensional family of special affine solutions of the flow.

We consider the compressible Euler system with a family of nonlinear velocity alignments. The system is a nonlinear extension of the Euler-alignment system in collective dynamics. We show the asymptotic emergent phenomena of the system: alignment and flocking. Different types of nonlinearity and nonlocal communication protocols are investigated, resulting in a variety of different asymptotic behaviors.
In this work, the space of admissible entropy functions for the compressible multicomponent Euler equations is explored, following up on [Harten, \textit{J. Comput. Phys.}, 49 (1), 1983, pp. 151-164]. This effort allows us to prove a minimum entropy principle on entropy solutions, whether smooth or discrete, in the same way it was originally demonstrated for the compressible Euler equations by [Tadmor, \textit{Appl. Numer. Math.}, 49 (3-5), 1986, pp. 211-219].
We study the structure of shock-free solutions of the compressible Euler equations with large data. We describe conditions under which the Rarefactive/Compressive character of solutions changes, and conditions under which the vacuum is formed asymptotically. We present several new examples of shock-free solutions, which demonstrate a large variety of behaviors.
In this paper we investigate the zero dielectric constant limit to the non-isentropic compressible Euler-Maxwell system. We justify this singular limit rigorously in the framework of smooth solutions and obtain the non-isentropic compressible magnetohydrodynamic equations as the dielectric constant tends to zero.
In this paper, we study the limiting behavior of Riemann solutions to the Euler equations of one-dimensional compressible fluid flow as $γ$ tends to one. We show that the limit solution forms the delta wave to the pressureless Euler system of one-dimensional compressible fluid flow in the distribution sense. Some numerical results exhibiting the phenomena of concentration are also presented.
We consider the compressible Euler system describing the motion of an ideal fluid confined to a straight layer $Ω_δ=(0,δ)\times\mathbb{R}^2, \ \ δ>0$. In the framework of dissipative measure-valued solutions, we show the convergence to the strong solution of the 2D incompressible Euler system when the Mach number tends to zero and $δ\rightarrow0$.
This paper justifies the compressible Euler and acoustic limits from quantum Boltzmann equation with Fermi-Dirac statistics (briefly, BFD) rigorously. This limit was formally derived in Zakrevskiy's thesis \cite{Zakrevskiy} by moment method. We employ the Hilbert approach. The forms of the classical compressible Euler system and the one derived from BFD are different. Our proof is based on the analysis of the nonlinear implicit transformation of these two forms, and a few novel nonlinear estimates.
We define compressive and rarefactive waves and give the differential equations describing smooth wave steepening for the compressible Euler equations with a varying entropy profile and general pressure laws. Using these differential equations, we directly generalize P. Lax's singularity (shock) formation results for hyperbolic systems with two variables to the compressible Euler equations for a polytropic ideal gas. Our results are valid globally without restriction on the size of the variation of initial data.
In this paper, the compressible Euler system with velocity alignment and damping is considered, where the influence matrix of velocity alignment is not positive definite. Sound speed is used to reformulate the system into symmetric hyperbolic type. The global existence and uniqueness of smooth solution for small initial data is provided.
In this paper, vacuum and singularity formation are considered for compressible Euler equations with time-dependent damping. For $1<γ\leq 3$, by constructing some new control functions ingeniously, we obtain the lower bounds estimates on density for arbitrary classical solutions. Basing on these lower estimates, we succeed in proving the singular formation theorem for all $λ$, which was open in [1] for some cases.Moreover, the singularity formation of the compressible Euler equations when $γ=3$ is investigated, too.
We show that 1-D rarefaction wave solutions are unique in the class of bounded entropy solutions to the multidimensional compressible Euler system. Such a result may be viewed as a counterpart of the recent examples of non-uniqueness of the shock wave solutions to the Riemann problem, where infinitely many solutions are constructed by the method of convex integration.
In this paper, the singularity formation of classical solutions for the compressible Euler equations with general pressure law is considered. The gradient blow-up of classical solutions is shown without any smallness assumption by the delicate analysis on the decoupled Riccati type equations. The proof also relies on a new estimate for the upper bound of density.
We consider a class of wild initial data to the compressible Euler system that give rise to infinitely many admissible weak solutions via the method of convex integration. We identify the closure of this class in the natural $L^1$-topology and show that its complement is rather large, specifically it is an open dense set.
The work is devoted to the relaxation limit in larger Besov spaces for compressible Euler equations, which contains previous results in Sobolev spaces and Besov spaces with critical regularity. Such an extension depends on a revision of commutator estimates and an elementary fact which indicates the connection between homogeneous and inhomogeneous Chemin-Lerner spaces.
This note is devoted to the linear stability of the Couette flow for the non-isentropic compressible Euler equations in a domain $\mathbb{T}\times \mathbb{R}$. Exploiting the several conservation laws originated from the special structure of the linear system, we obtain a Lyapunov type instability for the density, the temperature, the compressible part of the velocity field, and also obtain an inviscid damping for the incompressible part of the velocity field.
We deal with entropy solutions to the Cauchy problem for the isentropic compressible Euler equations in the space-periodic case. In more than one space dimension, the methods developed by De Lellis-Székelyhidi enable us to show failure of uniqueness on a finite time-interval for entropy solutions starting from any continuously differentiable initial density and suitably constructed bounded initial linear momenta.
The well-posedness of Cauchy problem of 3D compressible Euler equations is studied. By using Smith-Tataru's approach \cite{ST}, we prove the local existence, uniqueness and stability of solutions for Cauchy problem of 3D compressible Euler equations, where the initial data of velocity, density, specific vorticity $v, ρ\in H^s, \varpi \in H^{s_0} (2<s_0<s)$. It's an alternative and simplified proof of the result given by Q. Wang in \cite{WQEuler}.
We prove shock formation results for the compressible Euler equations and related systems of conservation laws in one space dimension, or three dimensions with spherical symmetry. We establish an $L^\infty$ bound for $C^1$ solutions of the one-D Euler equations, and use this to improve recent shock formation results of the authors. We prove analogous shock formation results for one-D MHD with orthogonal magnetic field, and for compressible flow in a variable area duct, which has as a special case spherically symmetric three dimensional flow on the exterior of a ball
We study the Cauchy problem for a system of equations corresponding to a singular limit of radiative hydrodynamics, namely the 3D radiative compressible Euler system coupled to an electromagnetic field through the MHD approximation. Assuming the presence of damping together with suitable smallness hypotheses for the data, we prove that this problem admits a unique global smooth solution.

In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem of one-dimensional isentropic compressible Euler equations with the source term $βρ|u|^αu$. By means of wave decomposition and the uniform a-priori estimates, we prove the global existence of smooth solutions under small perturbations around the supersonic Fanno flow. Then, by Gronwall's inequality, we get the smooth solution is time-periodic.
An important problem in the theory of compressible gas flows is to understand the singular behavior of vacuum states. The main difficulty lies in the fact that the system becomes degenerate at the vacuum boundary, where the characteristics coincide and have unbounded derivative. In this paper, we overcome this difficulty by presenting a new formulation and new energy spaces. We establish the local in time well-posedness of one-dimensional compressible Euler equations for isentropic flows with the physical vacuum singularity in some spaces adapted to the singularity.
In this paper, we numerically study a class of solutions with spiraling singularities in vorticity for two-dimensional, inviscid, compressible Euler systems, where the initial data have an algebraic singularity in vorticity at the origin. These are different from the multi-dimensional Riemann problems widely studied in the literature. We introduce a variational time discretization for the multi-dimensional gas dynamics equations, in the spirit of minimizing movements for curves of maximal slope. Each timestep requires the minimization of a functional measuring the acceleration of fluid elements, over the cone of monotone transport maps. We prove convergence to measure-valued solutions for the pressureless gas dynamics and the compressible Euler equations. For one space dimension, we obtain sticky particle solutions for the pressureless case.
In this paper, we propose a new approach to singular limits of inviscid fluid flows based on the concept of dissipative measure-valued solutions. We show that dissipative measure-valued solutions of the compressible Euler equations converge to the smooth solution of the incompressible Euler system when the Mach number tends to zero. This holds both for well-prepared and ill-prepared initial data, where in the latter case the presence of acoustic waves causes difficulties. However this effect is eliminated on unbounded domains thanks to dispersion.
This article is concerned with the local well-posedness problem for the compressible Euler equations in gas dynamics. In [25], Moffatt introduced the concept of helicity in an inviscid fluid and examined the helicity preservation of smooth solution to barotropic compressible flow. In this paper, it is shown that the weak solutions of the above system in Onsager type spaces $\dot{B}^{1/3}_{p,c(\mathbb{N})}$ guarantee the conservation of the helicity. The parallel results of homogeneous incompressible Euler equations and the surface quasi-geostrophic equation are also obtained.
We prove a priori estimates for the three-dimensional compressible Euler equations with moving {\it physical} vacuum boundary, with an equation of state given by $p(ρ) = C_γρ^γ$ for $γ>1$. The vacuum condition necessitates the vanishing of the pressure, and hence density, on the dynamic boundary, which creates a degenerate and characteristic hyperbolic {\it free-boundary} system to which standard methods of symmetrizable hyperbolic equations cannot be applied.

In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem of the compressible Euler system with strongly singular velocity alignment. We prove the existence and uniqueness of global solutions in critical Besov spaces to the considered system with small initial data. The local-in-time solvability is also addressed. Moreover, we show the large-time asymptotic behavior and optimal decay estimates of the solutions as $t\to \infty$.
Can every measure-valued solution to the compressible Euler equations be approximated by a sequence of weak solutions? We prove that the answer is negative: Generalizing a well-known rigidity result of Ball and James to a more general situation, we construct an explicit measure-valued solution for the compressible Euler equations which can not be generated by a sequence of distributional solutions. This paper is concerned with the three dimensional compressible Euler--Poisson equations with moving physical vacuum boundary condition. This fluid system is usually used to describe the motion of a self-gravitating inviscid gaseous star. The local existence of classical solutions for initial data in certain weighted Sobolev spaces is established in the case that the adiabatic index satisfies $1 < γ< 3$.
Let $\mathcal{S} = \{ τ_n \}_{n=1}^\infty \subset (0,T)$ be an arbitrary countable (dense) set. We show that for any given initial density and momentum, the compressible Euler system admits (infinitely many) admissible weak solutions that are not strongly continuous at each $τ_n$, $n=1,2,\dots$. We consider a sequence of approximate solutions to the compressible Euler system admitting uniform energy bounds and/or satisfying the relevant field equations modulo an error vanishing in the asymptotic limit. The relaxation limit in critical Besov spaces for the multidimensional compressible Euler equations is considered. As the first step of this justification, the uniform (global) classical solutions to the Cauchy problem with initial data close to an equilibrium state are constructed in the Chemin-Lerner's spaces with critical regularity. Furthermore, it is shown that the density converges towards the solution to the porous medium equation, as the relaxation time tends to zero. Several important estimates are achieved, including a crucial estimate of commutator.
We consider the Cauchy problem for the isentropic compressible Euler equations in a three-dimensional periodic domain under general pressure laws. For any smooth initial density away from the vacuum, we construct infinitely many entropy solutions with no presence of shock. In particular, the constructed density is smooth and the momentum is $α$-Hölder continuous for $α<1/7$. Also, we provide a continuous entropy solution satisfying the entropy inequality strictly.
The work addresses a singular limit for a rotating compressible Euler system in the low Mach number and low Rossby number regime. Based on the concept of dissipative measure-valued solution, the quasi-geostrophic system is identified as the limit problem in case of ill-prepared initial data. The ill-prepared initial data will cause rapidly oscillating acoustic waves. Using dispersive estimates of Strichartz type, the effect of the acoustic waves in the asymptotic limit is eliminated.
In this paper, for compressible Euler equations in multiple space dimensions, we prove the break-down of classical solutions with a large class of initial data by tracking the propagation of radially symmetric expanding wave including compression. The singularity formation is corresponding to the finite time shock formation. We also provide some new global sup-norm estimates on velocity and density functions for classical solutions. The results in this paper have no restriction on the size of solutions, hence are large data results.
This paper is concerned with the existence of compactly supported admissible solutions to the Cauchy problem for the isentropic compressible Euler equations. In more than one space dimension, convex integration techniques developed by De Lellis-Székelyhidi and Chiodaroli enable us to prove failure of uniqueness on a finite time-interval for admissible solutions starting from any continuously differentiable initial density and suitably constructed bounded initial momenta. In particular, this extends Chiodaroli's work from periodic boundary conditions to bounded domains or the whole space.
In this note, we prove that the solutions obtained to the spherically symmetric Euler equations in the recent works [2, 3] are weak solutions of the multi-dimensional compressible Euler equations. We consider the Cauchy problem for the barotropic Euler system coupled to Helmholtz or Poisson equations, in the whole space. We assume that the initial density is small enough, and that the initial velocity is close to some reference vector field u0 such that the spectrum of Du0 is bounded away from zero. We prove the existence of a global unique solution with (fractional) Sobolev regularity, and algebraic time decay estimates. Our work extends the papers by D. Serre and M. Grassin [20, 21, 43] dedicated to the compressible Euler system without coupling and integer regularity exponents.
Energy conservations are studied for inhomogeneous incompressible and compressible Euler equations with general pressure law in a torus or a bounded domain. We provide sufficient conditions for a weak solution to conserve the energy. By exploiting a suitable test function, the spatial regularity for the density is only required to be of order $2/3$ in the incompressible case, and of order $1/3$ in the compressible case. When the density is constant, we recover the existing results for classical incompressible Euler equation.

The goal of the present paper is to prove that if a weak limit of a consistent approximation scheme of compressible complete Euler system in the full space $ \mathbb{R}^d,\; d=2,3 $ is a weak solution of the system then eventually the approximate solutions converge strongly in suitable norms locally under a minimal assumption on the initial data of the approximate solutions. The class of consistent approximate solutions is quite general including the vanishing viscosity and heat conductivity limit. In particular, they may not satisfy the minimal principle for entropy.
