The third release of the RIT public catalog of numerical relativity black-hole-binary waveforms \url{http://ccrg.rit.edu/~RITCatalog} consists of 777 accurate simulations that include 300 precessing and 477 nonprecessing binary systems with mass ratios $q=m_1/m_2$ in the range $1/15\leq q\leq1$ and individual spins up to $s/m^2=0.95$. The catalog also provides initial parameters of the binary, trajectory information, peak radiation, and final remnant black hole properties. The waveforms are corrected for the center of mass drifting and are extrapolated to future null infinity. We successfully test this correction comparing with simulations of low radition content initial data. As an initial application of this waveform catalog we reanalyze all the peak radiation and remnant properties to find new, simple, correlations among them for practical astrophysical usage.
This fourth release of the RIT public catalog of numerical relativity black-hole-binary waveforms \url{http://ccrg.rit.edu/~RITCatalog} consists of 1881 accurate simulations that include 446 precessing and 611 nonprecessing quasicircular/inspiraling binary systems with mass ratios $q=m_1/m_2$ in the range $1/128\leq q\leq1$ and individual spins up to $s/m^2=0.95$; and 824 in eccentric orbits in the range $0<e\leq1$. The catalog also provides initial parameters of the binary, trajectory information, peak radiation, and final remnant black hole properties. The waveforms are corrected for the cen…
The RIT numerical relativity group is releasing a public catalog of black-hole-binary waveforms. The initial release of the catalog consists of 126 recent simulations that include precessing and non precessing systems with mass ratios $q=m_1/m_2$ in the range $1/6\leq q\leq1$. The catalog contains information about the initial data of the simulation, the waveforms extrapolated to infinity, as well as information about the peak luminosity and final remnant black hole properties. These waveforms can be used to independently interpret gravitational wave signals from laser interferometric detector…
The RIT numerical relativity group is releasing the second public catalog of black-hole-binary waveforms \url{http://ccrg.rit.edu/~RITCatalog}. This release consists of 320 accurate simulations that include 46 precessing and 274 nonprecessing binary systems with mass ratios $q=m_1/m_2$ in the range $1/6\leq q\leq1$ and individual spins up to $s/m^2=0.95$. The new catalog contains search and ordering tools for the waveforms based on initial parameters of the binary, trajectory information, peak radiation, and final remnant black hole properties. The final black hole remnant properties provided …
Using exclusively the 777 full numerical waveforms of the third Binary Black Holes RIT catalog, we reanalyze the ten black hole merger signals reported in LIGO/Virgo's O1/O2 observation runs. We obtain binary parameters, extrinsic parameters, and the remnant properties of these gravitational waves events which are consistent with, but not identical to previously presented results. We have also analyzed three additional events (GW170121, GW170304, GW170727) reported in Venumadhav et al. 2019, and found closely matching parameters. We finally assess the accuracy of our waveforms with convergence…
The asymptotic approach derived by Kozameh-Quiroga (K-Q) provides a modern framework to obtain the evolution of global variables of isolated sources of gravitational radiation. We test the K-Q formalism evolving the equations of motion for the center of mass, the intrinsic angular momentum, and several other global variables, for black hole binary coalescence. First we evolve the equations of motion using 777 simulations from the RIT catalogue numerical data of $ψ_4$ [J. Healy and C.O. Lousto, Third RIT binary black hole simulations catalog, Phys. Rev. D 102, 104018 (2020).]. We then analyze t…
We perform a hierarchical Bayesian analysis of the GWTC-2 catalog to investigate the mixed scenario in which the merger events are explained by black holes of both astrophysical and primordial origin. For the astrophysical scenario we adopt the phenomenological model used by the LIGO/Virgo collaboration and we include the correlation between different parameters inferred from data, the role of the spins in both the primordial and astrophysical scenarios, and the impact of accretion in the primordial scenario. Our best-fit mixed model has a strong statistical evidence relative to the single-pop…

We present the third Open Gravitational-wave Catalog (3-OGC) of compact-binary coalescences, based on the analysis of the public LIGO and Virgo data from 2015 through 2019 (O1, O2, O3a). Our updated catalog includes a population of 57 observations, including four binary black hole mergers that had not previously been reported. This consists of 55 binary black hole mergers and the two binary neutron star mergers GW170817 and GW190425. We find no additional significant binary neutron star or neutron star--black hole merger events. The most confident new detection is the binary black hole merger …
In this work, we use the coherent WaveBurst (cWB) pipeline enhanced with machine learning (ML) to search for binary black hole (BBH) mergers in the Advanced LIGO-Virgo strain data from the third observing run (O3). We detect, with equivalent or higher significance, all gravitational-wave (GW) events previously reported by the standard cWB search for BBH mergers in the third GW Transient Catalog (GWTC-3). The ML-enhanced cWB search identifies five additional GW candidate events from the catalog that were previously missed by the standard cWB search. Moreover, we identify three marginal candidat…
The LIGO and Virgo observatories have reported 39 new gravitational-wave detections during the first part of the third observation run, bringing the total to 50. Most of these new detections are consistent with binary black-hole coalescences, making them suitable targets to search for gravitational-wave memory, a non-linear effect of general relativity. We extend a method developed in previous publications to analyse these events to determine a Bayes factor comparing the memory hypothesis to the no-memory hypothesis. Specifically, we calculate Bayes factors using two waveform models with highe…
The Advanced LIGO and Virgo detectors have now observed approximately 50 black-hole-binary mergers, from which we can begin to infer how rapidly astrophysical black holes spin. The LIGO-Virgo Collaboration (LVC) analysis of detections up to the end of the first half of the third observing run (O3a) appeared to uncover a distribution of spin magnitudes that peaks at $\sim$0.2. This is surprising: is there a black-hole formation mechanism that prefers a particular, non-zero spin magnitude, or could this be the cumulative effect of multiple formation processes? We perform an independent analysis …
The Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) will detect and characterize $\sim10^4$ Galactic Binaries consisting predominantly of two White Dwarfs (WD). An interesting prospect within this population is a third object--another WD star, a Circumbinary Exoplanet (CBP), or a Brown Dwarf (BD)--in orbit about the inner WD pair. We present the first fully Bayesian detection and posterior analysis of sub-stellar objects with LISA, focusing on the characterization of CBPs. We used an optimistic astrophysically motivated catalogue of these CBP third-body sources, including their orbital eccentricity …
The improvements in the sensitivity of the gravitational wave (GW) network enable the detection of several large redshift GW sources by third-generation GW detectors. These advancements provide an independent method to probe the large-scale structure of the universe by using the clustering of the binary black holes. The black hole catalogs are complementary to the galaxy catalogs because of large redshifts of GW events, which may imply that binary black holes (BBHs) are a better choice than galaxies to probe the large-scale structure of the universe and cosmic evolution over a large redshift r…

Primordial black holes (PBHs) might be formed in the early Universe and could comprise at least a fraction of the dark matter. Using the recently released GWTC-2 dataset from the third observing run of the LIGO-Virgo Collaboration, we investigate whether current observations are compatible with the hypothesis that all black hole mergers detected so far are of primordial origin. We constrain PBH formation models within a hierarchical Bayesian inference framework based on deep learning techniques, finding best-fit values for distinctive features of these models, including the PBH initial mass fu…
