Jahn-Teller coupling to moirè phonons in the continuum model formalism for small angle twisted bilayer graphene

We show how to include the Jahn-Teller coupling of \mo phonons to the electrons in the continuum model formalism which describes small-angle twisted bilayer graphene. These phonons, which strongly couple to the valley degree of freedom, are able to open gaps at most integer fillings of the four flat bands around the charge neutrality point. Moreover, we derive the full quantum mechanical expression of the electron-phonon Hamiltonian, which may allow accessing phenomena such as the phonon-mediated superconductivity and the dynamical Jahn-Teller effect.

Chaos in a Jahn-Teller Molecule

The Jahn-Teller system E x b_1 + b_2 has a particular degeneracy, where the vibronic potential has an elliptical minimum. In the general case where the ellipse does not reduce to a circle, the classical motion in the potential is chaotic, tending to trapping near one of the extrema of the ellipse. In the quantum problem, the motion consists of correlated tunneling from one extremum to the opposite, leading to an average angular momentum reminiscent of that of the better known E x e dynamic Jahn-Teller system.

Pseudogap state of underdoped cuprate HTSC as a display of the Jahn-Teller pseudoeffect

Polar Jahn-Teller centers and magnetic neutron scattering cross-section in copper oxides

In the framework of the model of the polar singlet-triplet Jahn-Teller centers the cross-section is obtained for magnetic neutron scattering in high-$T_{c}$ cuprates. Multi-mode character of the $CuO_{4}$ cluster ground manifold in the new phase of polar centers determines the dependence of magnetic form-factor on the local structure and charge state of the center. It is shown that magnetic inelastic neutron scattering in the system of the polar singlet-triplet Jahn-Teller centers permits to investigate the non-magnetic charge and structure excitations.

Dynamic Jahn-Teller Mechanism of Superconductivity in MgB$_2$

We propose a novel mechanism of superconductivity in MgB$_2$ based on the dynamic electronic structure of the $pσ$-orbitals coupled with $e_{2g}$ phonons. A nonconventional superconducting state is found to arise frome lectron-phonon interactions in the presence of additional pairing channels made available by the dynamic Jahn-Teller effects. A partially broken pseudo-spin symmetry in this Jahn-Teller system, together with two-phonon exchange pairing, naturally gives rise to two distinct gaps both of which are basically isotropic in the ($k_x$, $k_y$) space. Finite-wavevector Jahn-Teller-pairing and superconductivity in the cuprat es

A model interaction is proposed in which pairing is caused by a non-local Jahn-Teller (JT) -like instability due to the coupling between planar O states and knot equal to 0 phonons. Apart from pairing, the interaction is found to naturally allow metallic stripe formation. The consequences of the model for superconductivity in the cuprates are discussed. The model is shown to be consistent with numerous sets of experimental data in quite some detail.

Weak-Coupling Theory for Multiband Superconductivity Induced by Jahn-Teller Phonons

Emergence of superconductivity in a two-band system coupled with breathing and Jahn-Teller phonons is discussed in a weak-coupling limit. With the use of a standard quantum mechanical procedure, the phonon-mediated attraction is derived. From the analysis of the model including such attraction, a BCS-like formula for a superconducting transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ is obtained. When only the breathing phonon is considered, $T_{\rm c}$ is the same as that of the one-band model. The $CuO_4$-cluster based copper oxides are considered as generalized quantum lattice bose-gas or a system of the local singlet bosons moving in a lattice of the hole Jahn-Teller centers $[CuO_{4}^{5-}]_{JT}$. The $E\otimes e$ Jahn-Teller Polaron in Comparison with the Holstein Polaron

Based on an exact expression for the self-energy of the Jahn-Teller polaron, we find that symmetry of pseudospin rotation makes the vertex correction much less effective than that for the Holstein polaron. This ineffectiveness brings about a smaller effective mass m^* and a quantitatively differenent large-to-small polaron crossover, as examined by exact diagonalization in a two-site system. In the strong-coupling and antiadiabatic region, a rigorous analytic expression is found for m^*.

Electronic states in metallic nanoclusters form energy shells and degree of their filling depends on the number of delocalized electrons. Jahn-Teller Impurity States in LaSrCuO: XAFS Evidence and Implications for High Tc Superconductivity

Polarized XAFS measurements on powder of LaSrCuO with aligned c-axes find that apical oxygens neighboring only the Sr dopants have a double-site distribution. This result requires that the doped holes reside in impurity states peaked on the CuO6 octahedron neighboring the dopant (denoted as Sr-octahedrons).
