The objective of this research is to explore a convex feasibility problem, which consists of a monotone variational inequality problem and a fixed point problem. We introduce four inertial extragradient algorithms that are motivated by the inertial method, the subgradient extragradient method, the Tseng's extragradient method and the Mann-type method endowed with a simple step size. Strong convergence theorems of the algorithms are established under some standard and suitable conditions enforced by the cost operators. Finally, we implement some computational tests to show the efficiency and advantages of the proposed algorithms and compare them with some existing ones.
In this paper, we study the strong convergence of two Mann-type inertial extragradient algorithms, which are devised with a new step size, for solving a variational inequality problem with a monotone and Lipschitz continuous operator in real Hilbert spaces. Strong convergence theorems for our algorithms are proved without the prior knowledge of the Lipschitz constant of the operator. Finally, we provide some numerical experiments to illustrate the performances of the proposed algorithms and provide a comparison with related ones.
In this paper, we introduce an inertial Tseng's extragradient method for solving multi-valued variational inequalits, in which only one projection is needed at each iterate. We also obtain the strong convergence results of the proposed algorithm, provided that the multi-valued mapping is continuous and pseudomonotone with nonempty compact convex values. Moreover, numerical simulation results illustrate the efficiency of our method when compared to existing methods.
In this paper, we propose and study the asymptotic convergence and nonasymptotic global convergence rates (iteration-complexity) of an inertial under-relaxed version of the relative-error hybrid proximal extragradient (HPE) method for solving monotone inclusion problems. We analyze the proposed method under more flexible assumptions than existing ones on the extrapolation and relative-error parameters. As applications, we propose and/or study inertial under-relaxed forward-backward and Tseng's modified forward-backward type methods for solving structured monotone inclusions.
In this paper, we generalize the classical extragradient algorithm for solving variational inequality problems by utilizing nonzero normal vectors of the feasible set. In particular, conceptual algorithms are proposed with two different linesearchs. We then establish convergence results for these algorithms under mild assumptions. Our study suggests that nonzero normal vectors may significantly improve convergence if chosen appropriately.
The main purpose of this paper is to propose a variance-based Bregman extragradient algorithm with line search for solving stochastic variational inequalities, which is robust with respect an unknown Lipschitz constant. We prove the almost sure convergence of the algorithm by a more concise and effective method instead of using the supermartingale convergence theorem. Furthermore, we obtain not only the convergence rate $\mathcal{O}(1/k)$ with the gap function when $X$ is bounded, but also the same convergence rate in terms of the natural residual function when $X$ is unbounded. Under the Mint…
In this paper, we study a class of generalized monotone variational inequality (GMVI) problems whose operators are not necessarily monotone (e.g., pseudo-monotone). We present non-Euclidean extragradient (N-EG) methods for computing approximate strong solutions of these problems, and demonstrate how their iteration complexities depend on the global Lipschitz or Hölder continuity properties for their operators and the smoothness properties for the distance generating function used in the N-EG algorithms. We also introduce a variant of this algorithm by incorporating a simple line-search procedu…

Extragradient method (EG) (Korpelevich, 1976) is one of the most popular methods for solving saddle point and variational inequalities problems (VIP). Despite its long history and significant attention in the optimization community, there remain important open questions about convergence of EG. In this paper, we resolve one of such questions and derive the first last-iterate $O(1/K)$ convergence rate for EG for monotone and Lipschitz VIP without any additional assumptions on the operator unlike the only known result of this type (Golowich et al., 2020) that relies on the Lipschitzness of the J…

The monotone variational inequality is a central problem in mathematical programming that unifies and generalizes many important settings such as smooth convex optimization, two-player zero-sum games, convex-concave saddle point problems, etc. The extragradient algorithm by Korpelevich [1976] and the optimistic gradient descent-ascent algorithm by Popov [1980] are arguably the two most classical and popular methods for solving monotone variational inequalities. Despite their long histories, the following major problem remains open. What is the last-iterate convergence rate of the extragradient…
Nonconvex-nonconcave saddle-point optimization in machine learning has triggered lots of research for studying non-monotone variational inequalities (VI). In this work, we introduce two mirror frameworks, called mirror extragradient method and mirror extrapolation method, for approximating solutions to relatively Lipschitz and monotone-like VIs. The former covers the well-known Nemirovski's mirror prox method and Nesterov's dual extrapolation method, and the recently proposed Bregman extragradient method; all of them can be reformulated into a scheme that is very similar to the original form o…
We propose an extragradient method with stepsizes bounded away from zero for stochastic variational inequalities requiring only pseudo-monotonicity. We provide convergence and complexity analysis, allowing for an unbounded feasible set, unbounded operator, non-uniform variance of the oracle and, also, we do not require any regularization. Alongside the stochastic approximation procedure, we iteratively reduce the variance of the stochastic error. Our method attains the optimal oracle complexity $\mathcal{O}(1/ε^2)$ (up to a logarithmic term) and a faster rate $\mathcal{O}(1/K)$ in terms of the…
In this paper we study the bounded perturbation resilience of the extragradient and the subgradient extragradient methods for solving variational inequality (VI) problem in real Hilbert spaces. This is an important property of algorithms which guarantees the convergence of the scheme under summable errors, meaning that an inexact version of the methods can also be considered. Moreover, once an algorithm is proved to be bounded perturbation resilience, superiorizion can be used, and this allows flexibility in choosing the bounded perturbations in order to obtain a superior solution, as well exp…
A dynamic sampled stochastic approximated (DS-SA) extragradient method for stochastic variational inequalities (SVI) is proposed that is \emph{robust} with respect to an unknown Lipschitz constant $L$. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first provably convergent \emph{robust} SA \emph{method with variance reduction}, either for SVIs or stochastic optimization, assuming just an unbiased stochastic oracle in a large sample regime. This widens the applicability and improves, up to constants, the desired efficient acceleration of previous variance reduction methods, all of which still assume …
The Stochastic Extragradient (SEG) method is one of the most popular algorithms for solving min-max optimization and variational inequalities problems (VIP) appearing in various machine learning tasks. However, several important questions regarding the convergence properties of SEG are still open, including the sampling of stochastic gradients, mini-batching, convergence guarantees for the monotone finite-sum variational inequalities with possibly non-monotone terms, and others. To address these questions, in this paper, we develop a novel theoretical framework that allows us to analyze severa…

We consider the smooth convex-concave bilinearly-coupled saddle-point problem, $\min_{\mathbf{x}}\max_{\mathbf{y}}~F(\mathbf{x}) + H(\mathbf{x},\mathbf{y}) - G(\mathbf{y})$, where one has access to stochastic first-order oracles for $F$, $G$ as well as the bilinear coupling function $H$. Building upon standard stochastic extragradient analysis for variational inequalities, we present a stochastic \emph{accelerated gradient-extragradient (AG-EG)} descent-ascent algorithm that combines extragradient and Nesterov's acceleration in general stochastic settings. This algorithm leverages scheduled re…
In this paper, we propose two iterative methods for finding a common solution of a finite family of equilibrium problems for pseudomonotone bifunctions. The first is a parallel hybrid extragradient-cutting algorithm which is extended from the previously known one for variational inequalities to equilibrium problems. The second is a new cyclic hybrid extragradient-cutting algorithm. In the cyclic algorithm, using the known techniques, we can perform and develop practical numerical experiments.
The extragradient (EG), introduced by G. M. Korpelevich in 1976, is a well-known method to approximate solutions of saddle-point problems and their extensions such as variational inequalities and monotone inclusions. Over the years, numerous variants of EG have been proposed and studied in the literature. Recently, these methods have gained popularity due to new applications in machine learning and robust optimization. In this work, we survey the latest developments in the EG method and its variants for approximating solutions of nonlinear equations and inclusions, with a focus on the monotoni…
Weak convergence of inertial iterative method for solving variational inequalities is the focus of this paper. The cost function is assumed to be non-Lipschitz and monotone. We propose a projection-type method with inertial terms and give weak convergence analysis under appropriate conditions. Some test results are performed and compared with relevant methods in the literature to show the efficiency and advantages given by our proposed methods.

This paper introduces a family of stochastic extragradient-type algorithms for a class of nonconvex-nonconcave problems characterized by the weak Minty variational inequality (MVI). Unlike existing results on extragradient methods in the monotone setting, employing diminishing stepsizes is no longer possible in the weak MVI setting. This has led to approaches such as increasing batch sizes per iteration which can however be prohibitively expensive. In contrast, our proposed methods involves two stepsizes and only requires one additional oracle evaluation per iteration. We show that it is possi…

The main contributions of this paper are the proposition and the convergence analysis of a class of inertial projection-type algorithm for solving variational inequality problems in real Hilbert spaces where the underline operator is monotone and uniformly continuous. We carry out a unified analysis of the proposed method under very mild assumptions. In particular, weak convergence of the generated sequence is established and nonasymptotic $O(1/n)$ rate of convergence is established, where $n$ denotes the iteration counter. We also present some experimental results to illustrate the profits ga…
Tseng's forward-backward-forward algorithm is a valuable alternative for Korpelevich's extragradient method when solving variational inequalities over a convex and closed set governed by monotone and Lipschitz continuous operators, as it requires in every step only one projection operation. However, it is well-known that Korpelevich's method converges and can therefore be used also for solving variational inequalities governed by pseudo-monotone and Lipschitz continuous operators. In this paper, we first associate to a pseudo-monotone variational inequality a forward-backward-forward dynamical…

We develop a new stochastic algorithm with variance reduction for solving pseudo-monotone stochastic variational inequalities. Our method builds on Tseng's forward-backward-forward (FBF) algorithm, which is known in the deterministic literature to be a valuable alternative to Korpelevich's extragradient method when solving variational inequalities over a convex and closed set governed by pseudo-monotone, Lipschitz continuous operators. The main computational advantage of Tseng's algorithm is that it relies only on a single projection step and two independent queries of a stochastic oracle. Our…
In this paper, we introduce some adaptive methods for solving variational inequalities with relatively strongly monotone operators. Firstly, we focus on the modification of the recently proposed, in smooth case [1], adaptive numerical method for generalized smooth (with Hölder condition) saddle point problem, which has convergence rate estimates similar to accelerated methods. We provide the motivation for such an approach and obtain theoretical results of the proposed method. Our second focus is the adaptation of widespread recently proposed methods for solving variational inequalities with r…

We propose stochastic variance reduced algorithms for solving convex-concave saddle point problems, monotone variational inequalities, and monotone inclusions. Our framework applies to extragradient, forward-backward-forward, and forward-reflected-backward methods both in Euclidean and Bregman setups. All proposed methods converge in the same setting as their deterministic counterparts and they either match or improve the best-known complexities for solving structured min-max problems. Our results reinforce the correspondence between variance reduction in variational inequalities and minimizat…
The Past Extragradient (PEG) [Popov, 1980] method, also known as the Optimistic Gradient method, has known a recent gain in interest in the optimization community with the emergence of variational inequality formulations for machine learning. Recently, in the unconstrained case, Golowich et al. [2020] proved that a $O(1/N)$ last-iterate convergence rate in terms of the squared norm of the operator can be achieved for Lipschitz and monotone operators with a Lipschitz Jacobian. In this work, by introducing a novel analysis through potential functions, we show that (i) this $O(1/N)$ last-iterate …
