Asymmetric jet clustering in deep-inelastic scattering

We propose a new jet algorithm for deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) that accounts for the forward-backward asymmetry in the Breit frame. The Centauro algorithm is longitudinally invariant and can cluster jets with Born kinematics, which enables novel studies of transverse-momentum-dependent observables. Furthermore, we show that spherically-invariant algorithms in the Breit frame give access to low-energy jets from current fragmentation. We propose novel studies in unpolarized, polarized, and nuclear DIS at the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Deep inelastic scattering on asymmetric nuclei

We study deep inelastic scattering on isospin asymmetric nuclei. In particular, the difference of the nuclear structure functions and the Gottfried sum rule for the lightest mirror nuclei, 3He and 3H, are investigated. It is found that such systems can provide significant information on charge symmetry breaking and flavor asymmetry in the nuclear medium. Furthermore, we propose a new method to extract the neutron structure function from radioactive isotopes far from the line of stability. We also discuss the flavor asymmetry in the Drell-Yan process with isospin asymmetric nuclei.

Clustering structure of nuclei in deep inelastic processes

A clustering aspect is explained for the $^9$Be nucleus in charged-lepton deep inelastic scattering. Nuclear modifications of the structure function $F_2$ are studied by the ratio $R_{\rm EMC} = F_2^A /F_2^D$, where $A$ and $D$ are a nucleus and the deuteron, respectively. In a JLab experiment, an unexpectedly large nuclear modification slope $|dR_{\rm EMC}/dx|$ was found for $^9$Be, which could be related to its clustering structure. Asymmetric Inelastic Inert Doublet Dark Matter from Triplet Scalar Leptogenesis

The nature of dark matter (DM) particles and the mechanism that provides their measured relic abundance are currently unknown. In this paper we investigate inert scalar and vector like fermion doublet DM candidates with a charge asymmetry in the dark sector, which is generated by the same mechanism that provides the baryon asymmetry, namely baryogenesis-via-leptogenesis induced by decays of scalar triplets. Is the polarized light flavor sea-quark asymmetric?

Simple formulas on $Δ\bar d(x)-Δ\bar u(x)$ are proposed for extracting their values from polarized deep-inelastic semi-inclusive data. The present SMC and HERMES data suggest that $Δ\bar d(x)-Δ\bar u(x)$ is slightly negative, though the precision of the data is not enough for confirming it.

Azimuthal Asymmetric Distribution of Hadrons Inside a Jet at Hadron Collider

We study the azimuthal asymmetric distribution of hadrons inside a high energy jet in the single transverse polarized proton proton scattering, coming from the Collins effect multiplied by the quark transversity distribution. We argue that the Collins function in this process is the same as that in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. The experimental study of this process will provide us important information on the quark transversity distribution and test the universality of the fragmentation functions.

The leptonic current structure and azimuthal asymmetry in deeply inelastic scattering

We present a compact form of the leptonic currents for the computation of the processes involving an initial virtual boson (photon, $W^{\pm}$ or $Z_0$). For deeply inelastic scattering, once the azimuthal angle of the plane expanded by the initial- and final-state leptons are integrated over in the boson-proton rest frame, the azimuthal-asymmetric terms vanish, which, however, is NOT true when some physical quantities (such as the transverse momentum of the observed particle) are specified in laboratory frame. The abuse of the symmetry may lead to wrong results.

Single-Transverse Spin Asymmetry in Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering

We study the single-transverse spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive hadron production in deep inelastic scattering. We derive the leading contribution to the asymmetry at moderate transverse momentum $P_{h\perp}$ of the produced hadron in terms of twist-three quark-gluon correlation functions, and compare with the approach based on the factorization at fixed transverse momentum involving the asymmetric transverse-momentum and spin-dependent quark distribution. Hadronization Corrections to Jet Cross Sections in Deep-Inelastic Scattering

The size of non-perturbative corrections to high E_T jet production in deep-inelastic scattering is reviewed. Based on predictions from fragmentation models, hadronization corrections for different jet definitions are compared and the model dependence as well as the dependence on model parameters is investigated.
