Exact D7-brane embedding in the Pilch-Warner background

A new supersymmetric D7-brane embedding in the Pilch-Warner gravitational background is found exactly, by solving the supersymmetric condition. In the dual holographic picture, our setting corresponds to adding a quenched fundamental matter sector to N=2* super Yang-Mills theory, at zero temperature. We show that previous results in the same setting are missing the Wess-Zumino term in the D-brane action, and how our results complete the picture.

Holographic mesons in global Pilch-Warner background geometry

In this paper we study D-brane scalar fluctuations in global Pilch-Warner background geometry. We consider configurations of the probe branes compatible with the kappa symmetry preserving condition and the brane classical equations of motion. The corresponding meson spectra, obtained by the fluctuations along the transverse brane directions, admit equidistant structure for the higher modes, but some of them show additional shifts in their ground states.

Non-abelian T-duality of Pilch-Warner background

In this work we obtain the non-abelian T-dual geometry of the well-known Pilch-Warner supergravity solution in its infrared point. We derive the dual metric and the NS two-form by gauging the isometry group of the initial theory and integrating out the introduced auxiliary gauge fields. Then we use the Fourier-Mukai transform from algebraic geometry to find the transformation rules of the R-R fields. Semiclassical quantization of Rotating Strings in Pilch-Warner geometry

Some of the recent important developments in understanding string/ gauge dualities are based on the idea of highly symmetric motion of ``string solitons'' in $AdS_5\times S^5$ geometry originally suggested by Gubser, Klebanov and Polyakov. In this paper we study symmetric motion of certain string configurations in so called Pilch-Warner geometry. Localization and holography in N=2 gauge theories

We compare exact results from Pestun's localization of SU(N) N=2^* gauge theory on S^4 with available holographic models. While localization can explain the Coulomb branch vacuum of the holographic Pilch-Warner flow, it disagrees with the holographic Gauntlett et.al vacuum of N=2 super Yang-Mills theory. We further compute the free energy of the Pilch-Warner flow on S^4 and show that it disagrees with the localization result both for a finite S^4 radius, and in the S^4 decompactification limit. Thus, neither model represents holographic dual of supersymmetric S^4 localization of Pestun.

The holographic RG flow in a field theory on a curved background

As shown by Freedman, Gubser, Pilch and Warner, the RG flow in ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory broken to an ${\cal N}=1$ theory by the addition of a mass term can be described in terms of a supersymmetric domain wall solution in five-dimensional ${\cal N}=8$ gauged supergravity. The FGPW flow is an example of a holographic RG flow in a field theory on a flat background. Gauge Dual and Noncommutative Extension of an N=2 Supergravity Solution

We investigate some properties of a recent supergravity solution of Pilch and Warner, which is dual to the N=4 gauge theory softly broken to N=2. We verify that a D3-brane probe has the expected moduli space and its effective action can be brought to N=2 form. The kinetic term for the probe vanishes on an enhancon locus, as in earlier work on large-n N=2 theories, though for the Pilch-Warner solution this locus is a line rather than a ring. Quantum String Test of Nonconformal Holography

We compute Lüscher corrections to the effective string tension in the Pilch-Warner background, holographically dual to $\mathcal{N}=2^*$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. The same quantity can be calculated directly from field theory by solving the localization matrix model at large-$N$. We find complete agreement between the field-theory predictions and explicit string-theory calculation at strong coupling.

Dynamics of Fundamental Matter in N=2* Yang-Mills Theory

We study the dynamics of quenched fundamental matter in $\mathcal{N}=2^\ast$ supersymmetric large $N$ SU(N) Yang-Mills theory at zero temperature. Our tools for this study are probe D7-branes in the holographically dual $\mathcal{N}=2^\ast$ Pilch-Warner gravitational background. Previous work using D3-brane probes of this geometry has shown that it captures the physics of a special slice of the Coulomb branch moduli space of the gauge theory, where the $N$ constituent D3-branes form a dense one dimensional locus known as the enhancon, located deep in the infrared. Compactifications of the N=2^* flow

In hep-th/0004063 Pilch and Warner (PW) constructed N=2 supersymmetric RG flow corresponding to the mass deformation of the N=4 SU(N) Yang-Mills theory. In this paper we present exact deformations of PW flow when the gauge theory 3-space is compactified on S^3. We consider also the case with the gauge theory world-volume being dS_4 instead of R^{3,1}. The solution is constructed in five-dimensional gauged supergravity and is further uplifted to 10d.

Metastability in Bubbling AdS Space

We study the dynamics of probe M5 branes with dissolved M2 charge in bubbling geometries with SO(4) x SO(4) symmetry. These solutions were constructed by Bena-Warner and Lin-Lunin-Maldacena and correspond to the vacua of the maximally supersymmetric mass-deformed M2 brane theory. We find that supersymmetric probe M2 branes polarize into M5 brane shells whose backreaction creates an additional bubble in the geometry. Codimension-2 Solutions in Five-Dimensional Supergravity

We study a new class of supersymmetric solutions in five-dimensional supergravity representing multi-center configurations of codimension-2 branes along arbitrary curves. Codimension-2 branes are produced in generic situations out of ordinary branes of higher codimension by the supertube effect and, when they are exotic branes, spacetime generally becomes non-geometric.
