In this paper, we consider minimizing the L1/L2 term on the gradient for a limited-angle scanning problem in computed tomography (CT) reconstruction. We design a specific splitting framework for an unconstrained optimization model so that the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) has guaranteed convergence under certain conditions. In addition, we incorporate a box constraint that is reasonable for imaging applications, and the convergence for the additional box constraint can also be established. Numerical results on both synthetic and experimental datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed approaches, showing significant improvements over the state-of-the-art methods in the limited-angle CT reconstruction.

We consider the task of lossy compression of high-dimensional vectors through quantization. We propose the approach that learns quantization parameters by minimizing the distortion of scalar products and squared distances between pairs of points. This is in contrast to previous works that obtain these parameters through the minimization of the reconstruction error of individual points. The proposed approach proceeds by finding a linear transformation of the data that effectively reduces the minimization of the pairwise distortions to the minimization of individual reconstruction errors. After …
A numerical method for the computation of the magnetic flux in the vacuum surrounding the plasma in a Tokamak is investigated. It is based on the formulation of a Cauchy problem which is solved through the minimization of an energy error functional. Several numerical experiments are conducted which show the efficiency of the method.
We present a note on the implementation and efficacy of a box-constrained $L_1/L_2$ regularization in numerical optimization approaches to performing tomographic reconstruction from a single projection view. The constrained $L_1/L_2$ minimization problem is constructed and solved using the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM). We include brief discussions on parameter selection and numerical convergence, as well as detailed numerical demonstrations against relevant alternative methods. In particular, we benchmark against a box-constrained TVmin and an unconstrained Filtered Backp…
Phase retrieval refers to a classical nonconvex problem of recovering a signal from its Fourier magnitude measurements. Inspired by the compressed sensing technique, signal sparsity is exploited in recent studies of phase retrieval to reduce the required number of measurements, known as compressive phase retrieval (CPR). In this paper, l1 minimization problems are formulated for CPR to exploit the signal sparsity and alternating direction algorithms are presented for problem solving. For real-valued, nonnegative image reconstruction, the image of interest is shown to be an optimal solution of …

In the context of compressed sensing (CS), this paper considers the problem of reconstructing sparse signals with the aid of other given correlated sources as multiple side information. To address this problem, we theoretically study a generic \textcolor{black}{weighted $n$-$\ell_{1}$ minimization} framework and propose a reconstruction algorithm that leverages multiple side information signals (RAMSI). The proposed RAMSI algorithm computes adaptively optimal weights among the side information signals at every reconstruction iteration. In addition, we establish theoretical bounds on the number…
As a conclusion in classical linear algebra, an underdetermined linear equations usually have an infinite number of solutions. The sparest one among these solutions is significant in many applications. This problem can be modeled as the $l_0$-minimization, However, to find the sparsest solution of an underdetermined linear equations is NP-hard. Therefore, an important approach to solve the following $l_p$-minimization ($0<p\leq1$), The purpose of this problem is to find a $p$-norm minimization solution $(0<p\leq1)$ instead of the sparest one. In order to study the equivalence relationship betw…
In this paper, we consider the $\ell_0$ minimization problem whose objective function is the sum of $\ell_0$-norm and convex differentiable function. A variable metric type method which combines the PIHT method and the skill in quasi-newton method, named variable metric extrapolation proximal iterative hard thresholding (VMEPIHT) method, is proposed. Then we analyze its convergence, linear convergence rate and superlinear convergence rate under appropriate assumptions. Finally, we conduct numerical experiments on compressive sensing problem and CT image reconstruction problem to confirm VMPIHT…

In the practical applications of computed tomography imaging, the projection data may be acquired within a limited-angle range and corrupted by noises due to the limitation of scanning conditions. The noisy incomplete projection data results in the ill-posedness of the inverse problems. In this work, we theoretically verify that the low-resolution reconstruction problem has better numerical stability than the high-resolution problem. In what follows, a novel low-resolution image prior based CT reconstruction model is proposed to make use of the low-resolution image to improve the reconstructio…

Designing computational experiments involving $\ell_1$ minimization with linear constraints in a finite-dimensional, real-valued space for receiving a sparse solution with a precise number $k$ of nonzero entries is, in general, difficult. Several conditions were introduced which guarantee that, for small $k$ and for certain matrices, simply placing entries with desired characteristics on a randomly chosen support will produce vectors which can be recovered by $\ell_1$ minimization. In this work, we consider the case of large $k$ and propose both a methodology to quickly check whether a given v…
We introduce a method for fast estimation of data-adapted, spatio-temporally dependent regularization parameter-maps for variational image reconstruction, focusing on total variation (TV)-minimization. Our approach is inspired by recent developments in algorithm unrolling using deep neural networks (NNs), and relies on two distinct sub-networks. The first sub-network estimates the regularization parameter-map from the input data. The second sub-network unrolls $T$ iterations of an iterative algorithm which approximately solves the corresponding TV-minimization problem incorporating the previou…
In this paper, we consider the efficient and robust reconstruction of signals and images via $\ell_{1}-α\ell_{2}~(0<α\leq 1)$ minimization in impulsive noise case. To achieve this goal, we introduce two new models: the $\ell_1-α\ell_2$ minimization with $\ell_1$ constraint, which is called $\ell_1-α\ell_2$-LAD, the $\ell_1-α\ell_2$ minimization with Dantzig selector constraint, which is called $\ell_1-α\ell_2$-DS. We first show that sparse signals or nearly sparse signals can be exactly or stably recovered via $\ell_{1}-α\ell_{2}$ minimization under some conditions based on the restricted $1$-…
The projected subgradient method for constrained minimization repeatedly interlaces subgradient steps for the objective function with projections onto the feasible region, which is the intersection of closed and convex constraints sets, to regain feasibility. The latter poses a computational difficulty and, therefore, the projected subgradient method is applicable only when the feasible region is "simple to project onto". In contrast to this, in the superiorization methodology a feasibility-seeking algorithm leads the overall process and objective function steps are interlaced into it. This ma…
