In a recent paper O. Gannot and M. Wrochna considered the Klein-Gordon equation on an asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime subject to Robin boundary conditions, proving in particular a propagation of singularity theorem. In this work we generalize their result considering a more general class of boundary conditions implemented on the conformal boundary via pseudodifferential operators of suitable order. Using techniques proper of $b$-calculus and of twisted Sobolev spaces, we prove also for the case in hand a propagation of singularity theorem along generalized broken bicharacteristics, highlighting the potential presence of a contribution due to the pseudodifferential operator encoding the boundary condition.
We analyze the initial value problem for semilinear wave equations on asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces using energy methods adapted to the geometry of the problem at infinity. The key feature is that the coefficients become strongly singular at infinity, which leads to considering nontrivial data on the conformal boundary of the manifold. This question arises in Physics as the holographic prescription problem in string theory.
In this paper we develop a general, systematic, microlocal framework for the Fredholm analysis of non-elliptic problems, including high energy (or semiclassical) estimates, which is stable under perturbations. This framework is relatively simple given modern microlocal analysis, and only takes a bit over a dozen pages after the statement of notation. It resides on a compact manifold without boundary, hence in the standard setting of microlocal analysis, including semiclassical analysis. The rest of the paper is devoted to applications. Many natural applications arise in the setting of non-Riem…
We consider the wave equation on asymptotically Minkowski spacetimes and the Klein-Gordon equation on even asymptotically de Sitter spaces. In both cases we show that the extreme difference of propagators (i.e. retarded propagator minus advanced, or Feynman minus anti-Feynman), defined as Fredholm inverses, induces a symplectic form on the space of solutions with wave front set confined to the radial sets. Furthermore, we construct isomorphisms between the solution spaces and symplectic spaces of asymptotic data. As an application of this result we obtain distinguished Hadamard two-point funct…
In this paper, we study the linear wave equations in an asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime. We will consider the mixed boundary problem, where the initial data are given on an outgoing null hypersurface and a timelike hypersurface, and the asymptotic information is given on conformal infinity.
In the setting of asymptotically Anti-de Sitter spacetimes, we consider Klein-Gordon fields subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions, with mass satisfying the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. We introduce a condition on the b-wave front set of two-point functions of quantum fields, which locally in the bulk amounts to the usual Hadamard condition, and which moreover allows to estimate wave front sets for the holographically induced theory on the boundary. We prove the existence of two-point functions satisfying this condition, and show their uniqueness modulo terms that have smooth Schwartz kerne…

We revisit the propagation of classical scalar fields in a spacetime which is asymptotically anti-de Sitter. The lack of global hyperbolicity of the underlying background gives rise to an ambiguity in the dynamical evolution of solutions of the wave equation, requiring the prescription of extra boundary conditions at the conformal infinity to be fixed. We show that the only boundary conditions tha are compatible with the hypothesis that the system is isolated, as defined by the (improved) energy-momentum tensor, are of Dirichlet and Neumann types.
We study charged and radially excited boson stars in both asymptotically flat as well as asymptotically Anti-de Sitter space-time. We demonstrate that two different types of radially excited solutions exist~: one that persists in the linear limit of small scalar fields, in which analytical arguments suggest the existence of these solutions, and one that appears only in the highly non-linear regime of the model. We also demonstrate that the formation of wavy scalar hair discussed previously for black holes and boson stars in asymptotically flat space-time persists for asymptotically Anti-de Sit…
We study the linear stability of asymptotically anti-de Sitter black holes in general relativity in spacetime dimension $d\ge4$. Our approach is an adaptation of the general framework of Hollands and Wald, which gives a stability criterion in terms of the sign of the canonical energy, $\mathcal{E}$. The general framework was originally formulated for static or stationary and axisymmetric black holes in the asymptotically flat case, and the stability analysis for that case applies only to axisymmetric perturbations. However, in the asymptotically anti-de Sitter case, the stability analysis requ…
We use planar coordinates as well as hyperbolic coordinates to separate the de Sitter spacetime into two parts. These two ways of cutting the de Sitter give rise to two different spatial infinities. For spacetimes which are asymptotic to either half of the de Sitter spacetime, we are able to provide definitions of the total energy, the total linear momentum, the total angular momentum, respectively. And we prove two positive mass theorems, corresponding to these two sorts of spatial infinities, for spacelike hypersurfaces whose mean curvatures are bounded by certain constant from above.
We prove the existence of a unique maximal surface in each anti-de Sitter (AdS) convex Globally Hyperbolic Maximal (GHM) manifold with particles (that is, with conical singularities along time-like lines) for cone angles less than $π$. We interpret this result in terms of Teichmüller theory, and prove the existence of a unique minimal Lagrangian diffeomorphism isotopic to the identity between two hyperbolic surfaces with cone singularities when the cone angles are the same for both surfaces and are less than $π$.
We study the polarization of the vacuum for a scalar field, $<ϕ^2 >$, on an asymptotically anti-de Sitter black hole geometry. The method we follow uses the WKB analytic expansion and point-splitting regularization, similarly to previous calculations in the asymptotically flat case. Following standard procedures, we write the Green function, regularize the initial divergent expression by point-splitting, renormalize it by subtracting geometrical counter-terms, and take the coincidence limit in the end. After explicitly demonstrating the cancellation of the divergences and the regularity of the…
It has been proposed recently to consider in the framework of cosmology an extension of the semiclassical Einstein's equations in which the Einstein tensor is considered as a random function. This paradigm yields a hierarchy of equations between the $n$-point functions of the quantum, normal ordered, stress energy-tensor and those associated to the stochastic Einstein tensor. Assuming that the matter content is a conformally coupled massive scalar field on de Sitter spacetime, this framework has been applied to compute the power spectrum of the quantum fluctuations and to show that it is almos…
This note addresses quasinormal mode frequencies of four-dimensional asymptotically de Sitter rotating black holes. The main motivation is that Mathematica 12.1 has implemented a new family of special functions: Heun functions. Using the fact that Teukolsky's equations for Kerr-de Sitter black holes are mapped to Heun's equations, we are able to compute their quasinormal mode frequencies by the Heun function. In this approach, Mathematica normally evaluates these frequencies to arbitrary numerical precision in a few seconds. We further discuss an application to asymptotically flat rotating bla…
