We investigate the environment and line of sight of the H0LiCOW lens B1608+656 using Subaru Suprime-Cam and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to perform a weak lensing analysis. We compare three different methods to reconstruct the mass map of the field, i.e. the standard Kaiser-Squires inversion coupled with inpainting and Gaussian or wavelet filtering, and $\tt{Glimpse}$ a method based on sparse regularization of the shear field. We find no substantial difference between the 2D mass reconstructions, but we find that the ground-based data is less sensitive to small-scale structures than the space-based observations. Marginalising over the results obtained with all the reconstruction techniques applied to the two available HST filters F606W and F814W, we estimate the external convergence, $κ_{\rm ext}$ at the position of B1608+656 is $κ_{\rm ext} = 0.11^{+0.06}_{-0.04}$, where the error bars corresponds respectively to the 16th and 84th quartiles. This result is compatible with previous estimates using the number-counts technique, suggesting that B1608+656 resides in an over-dense line of sight, but with a completely different technique. Using our mass reconstructions, we also compare the convergence at the position of several groups of galaxies in the field of B1608+656 with the mass measurements using various analytical mass profiles, and find that the weak lensing results favor truncated halo models.
The COSMOS field has been extensively observed by most major telescopes, including Chandra, HST, and Subaru. HST imaging boasts very high spatial resolution and is used extensively in morphological studies of distant galaxies. Subaru provides lower spatial resolution imaging than HST but a substantially wider field of view with greater sensitivity. Both telescopes provide near-infrared imaging of COSMOS. Successful morphological fitting of Subaru data would allow us to measure morphologies of over $10^4$ known active galactic nucleus (AGN) hosts, accessible through Subaru wide-field surveys, c…
We present both the observations and the data reduction procedures of the Subaru COSMOS 20 project that is an optical imaging survey of the HST COSMOS field, carried out by using Suprime-Cam on the Subaru Telescope with the following 20 optical filters: 6 broad-band (B, g', V, r', i', and z'), 2 narrow-band (NB711 and NB816), and 12 intermediate-band filters (IA427, IA464, IA484, IA505, IA527, IA574, IA624, IA679, IA709, IA738, IA767, and IA827). A part of this project is described in Taniguchi et al. (2007) and Capak et al. (2007) for the six broad-band and one narrow-band (NB816) filter data…
We present the results of an imaging observation campaign conducted with the Subaru Telescope adaptive optics system (IRCS+AO188) on 28 gravitationally lensed quasars (23 doubles, 1 quad, and 1 possible triple, and 3 candidates) from the SDSS Quasar Lens Search. We develop a novel modelling technique that fits analytical and hybrid point spread functions (PSFs), while simultaneously measuring the relative astrometry, photometry, as well as the lens galaxy morphology. We account for systematics by simulating the observed systems using separately observed PSF stars. The measured relative astrome…
We present new HST WFPC3 imaging of four gravitationally lensed quasars: MG 0414+0534; RXJ 0911+0551; B 1422+231; WFI J2026-4536. In three of these systems we detect wavelength-dependent microlensing, which we use to place constraints on the sizes and temperature profiles of the accretion discs in each quasar. Accretion disc radius is assumed to vary with wavelength according to the power-law relationship $r\propto λ^p$, equivalent to a radial temperature profile of $T\propto r^{-1/p}$. The goal of this work is to search for deviations from standard thin disc theory, which predicts that radius…
We present the results of a 135-arcmin$^2$ search for high-redshift galaxies lensed by 29 clusters from the MAssive Cluster and extended MAssive Cluster Surveys (MACS and eMACS). We use relatively shallow images obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope in four passbands, namely, F606W, F814W, F110W, and F140W. We identify 130 F814W dropouts as candidates for galaxies at $z \le 6$. In order to fit the available broad-band photometry to galaxy spectral energy distribution (SED) templates, we develop a prior for the level of dust extinction at various redshifts. We also investigate the systematic…
We present a set of multi-wavelength mosaics and photometric catalogs in the ALMA lensing cluster survey (ALCS) fields. The catalogs were built by reprocessing of archival data from the CHArGE compilation, taken by the $\textit{Hubble Space Telescope}$ ($\textit{HST}$) in the RELICS, CLASH and Hubble Frontier Fields. Additionally we have reconstructed the $\textit{Spitzer}$ IRAC 3.6 and 4.5 $μ$m mosaics, by utilising all the available archival IRSA/SHA exposures. To alleviate the effect of blending in such a crowded region, we have modelled the $\textit{Spitzer}$ photometry by convolving the $…
Using the novel $JWST$/NIRCam observations in the Abell 2744 field, we present a first spatially resolved overview of an $HST$-dark galaxy, spectroscopically confirmed at $z=2.58$ with magnification $μ\approx1.9$. While being largely invisible at $\sim$1 $μ$m with NIRCam, except for sparse clumpy sub-structures, the object is well-detected and resolved in the long-wavelength bands with a spiral shape clearly visible in F277W. By combining ancillary ALMA and $Herschel$ data, we infer that this object is an edge-on dusty spiral with an intrinsic stellar mass log$(M_*/M_\odot)\sim11.3$ and a dust…
Data mining through large, multi-band ground-based surveys and the recent availability of source catalogues from the {\it Gaia} space mission has led to a surge in the number of known gravitationally lensed quasars, including some unusual systems. One of these newly discovered systems is GraL~J181730853+272940139. This system was reported in Delchambre et al. 2018, and was identified as a quadruply lensed quasar candidate via a machine learning search inside {\it Gaia} Data Release 2, where it consists of three sources with maximum separation $1.8''$. Lemon et al. in prep (private communicatio…
We present deep spectroscopic observations of a Lyman-break galaxy candidate (hereafter MACS1149-JD) at $z\sim9.5$ with the $\textit{Hubble}$ Space Telescope ($\textit{HST}$) WFC3/IR grisms. The grism observations were taken at 4 distinct position angles, totaling 34 orbits with the G141 grism, although only 19 of the orbits are relatively uncontaminated along the trace of MACS1149-JD. We fit a 3-parameter ($z$, F160W mag, and Ly$α$ equivalent width) Lyman-break galaxy template to the three least contaminated grism position angles using an MCMC approach. The grism data alone are best fit with …
We present the HST WFC3/F275W UV imaging observations of A2218-Flanking, a lensed compact dwarf galaxy at redshift $z\approx2.5$. The stellar mass of A2218-Flanking is $\log(M/M_{\odot}=9.14$ and SFR is 12.5$M_\odot$yr$^{-1}$ after correcting the magnification. This galaxy has a young galaxy age of 127 Myr and a compact galaxy size of $r_{1/2}=2.4$kpc. The HST UV imaging observations cover the rest-frame Lyman continuum (LyC) emission ($\sim800$Å) from A2218-Flanking. We firmly detect ($14σ$) the LyC emission in A2218-Flanking in the F275W image. Together with the HST F606W images, we find tha…
Strong gravitationally lensed quasars provide powerful means to study galaxy evolution and cosmology. We use Chitah to hunt for new lens systems in the Hyper Suprime$-$Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC SSP) S16A. We present 46 lens candidates, of which 3 are previously known. Including 2 additional lenses found by YattaLens, we obtain X-shooter spectra of 6 promising candidates for lens confirmation and redshift measurements. We report new spectroscopic redshift measurements for both the lens and source galaxies in 4 lens systems. We apply the lens modeling software Glee to model our 6 X-shoot…

We present mid-infrared imaging at 11.7 $μ$m for the quadruple lens systems, MG0414+0534 and Q2237+030, using the cooled mid-infrared camera and spectrometer (COMICS) attached on the Subaru telescope. MG0414+0534 is characterized by a bright pair of lensed images (A1, A2) and their optical flux ratio A2/A1 deviates significantly from the prediction of a smooth lens model. Q2237+030 is comprised of four lensed images, which are significantly affected by microlensing in a foreground lensing galaxy. Our mid-infrared observations of these lensed images have revealed that the mid-infrared flux rati…
The Grism Lens-Amplified Survey from Space (GLASS) is a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Large Program, which will obtain 140 orbits of grism spectroscopy of the core and infall regions of 10 galaxy clusters, selected to be among the very best cosmic telescopes. Extensive HST imaging is available from many sources including the CLASH and Frontier Fields programs. We introduce the survey by analyzing spectra of faint multiply-imaged galaxies and $z\gtrsim6$ galaxy candidates obtained from the first seven orbits out of fourteen targeting the core of the Frontier Fields cluster MACS0717.5+3745. Using…
A Survey for High-redshift Gravitationally Lensed Quasars and Close Quasars Pairs. I. the Discoveries of an Intermediately-lensed Quasar and a Kpc-scale Quasar Pair at $z\sim5$
We present spectroscopic confirmation of three new two-image gravitationally lensed quasars, compiled from existing strong lens and X-ray catalogs. Images of HSC J091843.27$-$022007.5 show a red galaxy with two blue point sources at either side, separated by 2.26 arcsec. This system has a source and a lens redshifts $z_s=0.804$ and $z_{\ell}=0.459$, respectively, as obtained by our follow-up spectroscopic data. CXCO J100201.50$+$020330.0 shows two point sources separated by 0.85 arcsec on either side of an early-type galaxy. The follow-up spectroscopic data confirm the fainter quasar has the s…
We discovered a strongly lensed (μ>40) Lya emission at z=6.629 (S/N~18) in the MUSE Deep Lensed Field (MDLF) targeting the Hubble Frontier Field galaxy cluster MACS~J0416. Dedicated lensing simulations imply that the Lya emitting region necessarily crosses the caustic. The arc-like shape of the Lya extends 3 arcsec on the observed plane and is the result of two merged multiple images, each one with a de-lensed Lya luminosity L<~2.8 x 10^(40) erg/s arising from a confined region (< 150 pc effective radius). A spatially unresolved HST counterpart is barely detected at S/N~2 after stacking the ne…
We conduct a search for galaxy-scale strong gravitational lens systems in Data Release 4 of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC SSP), consisting of data taken up to the S21A semester. We select 103191 luminous red galaxies from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) sample that have deep multiband imaging from the HSC SSP and use the YattaLens algorithm to automatically identify lens candidates with blue arc-like features. The candidates are visually inspected and graded based on their likelihood of being a lens. We find 8 definite lenses, 28 probable lenses, and 13…
We present the result of Subaru Telescope multi-band adaptive optics observations of the complex gravitationally lensed quasar SDSS J1405+0959, which is produced by two lensing galaxies. These observations reveal dramatically enhanced morphological detail, leading to the discovery of an additional object 0. 26'' from the secondary lensing galaxy, as well as three collinear clumps located in between the two lensing galaxies. The new object is likely to be the third quasar image, although the possibility that it is a galaxy cannot be entirely excluded. If confirmed via future observations, it wo…
We present a lensed quasar search based on the variability of lens systems in the HSC transient survey. Starting from 101,353 variable objects with i-band photometry in the HSC transient survey, we used a variability-based lens search method measuring the spatial extent in difference images to select potential lensed quasar candidates. We adopted conservative constraints in this variability selection and obtained 83,657 variable objects as possible lens candidates. We then ran CHITAH, a lens search algorithm based on the image configuration, on those 83,657 variable objects, and 2,130 variable…
We find multiple Mg II absorption systems at redshift z=1.66, 2.069, and 2.097 in the spatially resolved spectra of the quadruply gravitationally lensed quasar H1413+1143 utilizing the Kyoto tridimensional spectrograph II (Kyoto 3DII) spectrograph on board the Subaru telescope. Here we present the first measurement of differences in Mg II absorption strength of the multiple intervening absorbers, which include ones identified as damped Lyman alpha (DLA) absorption systems. Our detection of the significant Mg II absorptions in the spatially resolved spectra reveals the inhomogeneous chemical en…
We have measured the absolute proper motion of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy using Subaru Suprime-Cam images taken at three epochs, with time baselines of 4.4 and 7 years. The magnitude limit of the proper-motion study is i=25, thus allowing for thousands of background galaxies and Draco stars to be used to perform extensive astrometric tests and to derive the correction to an inertial reference frame. The derived proper motion is (mu_alpha, mu_delta) =(-0.284 +- 0.047, -0.289 +-0.041) mas/yr. This motion implies an orbit that takes Draco to a pericenter of $\sim 20$ kpc; a somewhat disrup…
Strong gravitational lensing provides a powerful probe of the physical properties of quasars and their host galaxies. A high fraction of the most luminous high-redshift quasars was predicted to be lensed due to magnification bias. However, no multiple imaged quasar was found at z>5 in previous surveys. We report the discovery of J043947.08+163415.7, a strongly lensed quasar at z=6.51, the first such object detected at the epoch of reionization, and the brightest quasar yet known at z>5. High-resolution HST imaging reveals a multiple imaged system with a maximum image separation theta ~ 0.2", b…
We exploit the widely-separated images of the lensed quasar SDSS J1029+2623 ($z_{em}$=2.197, $θ=22^{\prime\prime}\!\!.5$) to observe its outflowing wind through two different sightlines. We present an analysis of three observations, including two with the Subaru telescope in 2010 February (Misawa et al. 2013) and 2014 April (Misawa et al. 2014), separated by 4 years, and one with the Very Large Telescope, separated from the second Subaru observation by $\sim$2 months. We detect 66 narrow absorption lines (NALs), of which 24 are classified as intrinsic NALs that are physically associated with t…
We report the results from spectroscopic observations of the multiple images of the strongly lensed Type Ia supernova (SN Ia), iPTF16geu, obtained with ground based telescopes and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). From a single epoch of slitless spectroscopy with HST, we can resolve spectra of individual lensed supernova images for the first time. This allows us to perform an independent measurement of the time-delay between the two brightest images, $Δt = 1.4 \pm 5.0$ days, which is consistent with the time-delay measured from the light-curves. We also present measurements of narrow emission …
We present the first results of the KMOS Lens-Amplified Spectroscopic Survey (KLASS), a new ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT) large program, doing multi-object integral field spectroscopy of galaxies gravitationally lensed behind seven galaxy clusters selected from the HST Grism Lens-Amplified Survey from Space (GLASS). Using the power of the cluster magnification we are able to reveal the kinematic structure of 25 galaxies at $0.7 \lesssim z \lesssim 2.3$, in four cluster fields, with stellar masses $8 \lesssim \log{(M_\star/M_\odot)} \lesssim 11$. This sample includes 5 sources at $z>1$ with lo…
The discovery of two UV-bright galaxy candidates at $z\sim 13$, HD1 and HD2, laid the foundation for a new race to study the early Universe. Previous investigations suggested that they are either powered by a supermassive black hole or by an extreme, transient burst of star formation. Given their uncertain nature, we investigate whether these sources could be lensed by a hitherto undetected, faint foreground galaxy. We find that at the current limiting magnitude with which HD1 and HD2 were imaged, there is only a $7.39\%$ probability they are strongly lensed by spherical deflectors and that th…
We report an automated morphological classification of galaxies into S-wise spirals, Z-wise spirals, and non-spirals using big image data taken from Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Survey and a convolutional neural network(CNN)-based deep learning technique. The HSC i-band images are about 25 times deeper than those from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and have a two times higher spatial resolution, allowing us to identify substructures such as spiral arms and bars in galaxies at z>0.1. We train CNN classifiers by using HSC images of 1447 S-spirals, 1382 Z-spirals, and 51,650 non-spirals. A…
We report the largest sample of candidate strong gravitational lenses belonging to the Survey of Gravitationally-lensed Objects in HSC Imaging for group-to-cluster scale (SuGOHI-c) systems. These candidates are compiled from the S18A data release of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) Survey. We visually inspect $\sim39,500$ galaxy clusters, selected from several catalogs, overlapping with the Wide, Deep, and UltraDeep fields, spanning the cluster redshift range $0.05<z_{cl}<1.38$. We discover 641 candidate lens systems, of which 536 are new. From the full sample, 47 are a…
We present the optical luminosity functions (LFs) of galaxies for the CLASH-VLT cluster MACS J1206.2-0847 at z=0.439, based on HST and SUBARU data, including ~600 spectroscopically confirmed member galaxies. The LFs on the wide SUBARU FoV are well described by a single Schechter function down to M~M*+3, whereas this fit is poor for HST data, due to a faint-end upturn visible down M~M*+7, suggesting a bimodal behaviour. We also investigate the effect of local environment by deriving the LFs in four different regions, according to the distance from the centre, finding an increase in the faint-en…

The Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC SSP) is an excellent survey for the search for strong lenses, thanks to its area, image quality and depth. We use three different methods to look for lenses among 43,000 luminous red galaxies from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) sample with photometry from the S16A internal data release of the HSC SSP. The first method is a newly developed algorithm, named YATTALENS, which looks for arc-like features around massive galaxies and then estimates the likelihood of an object being a lens by performing a lens model fit. The secon…
We study the geometry and the internal structure of the outflowing wind from the accretion disk of a quasar by observing multiple sightlines with the aid of strong gravitational lensing. Using Subaru/HDS, we performed high-resolution ($R$ $\sim$ 36,000) spectroscopic observations of images A and B of the gravitationally lensed quasar SDSS J1029+2623 (at $z_{em}$ $\sim$ 2.197) whose image separation angle, $θ$ $\sim$ 22$^{\prime\prime}\!\!$.5, is the largest among those discovered so far. We confirm that the difference in absorption profiles in the images A and B discovered by Misawa et al. (20…
We present size measurements of 78 high-redshift ($z\geq 5.5$) galaxy candidates from the Reionisation Lensing Cluster Survey (RELICS). These distant galaxies are well-resolved due to the gravitational lensing power of foreground galaxy clusters, imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the Spitzer Space Telescope. We compute sizes using the forward-modeling code Lenstruction and account for magnification using public lens models. The resulting size-magnitude measurements confirm the existence of many small galaxies with effective radii $R_{\rm{eff}}<200$ pc in the early universe, in agr…
We present a multi-wavelength photometric catalog in the COSMOS field as part of the observations by the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS). The catalog is based on Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3 (HST/WFC3) and Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) observations of the COSMOS field (centered at RA: $10^h00^m28^s$, Dec:$+02^{\circ}12^{\prime}21^{\prime\prime}$). The final catalog has 38671 sources with photometric data in forty two bands from UV to the infrared ($\rm \sim 0.3-8\,μm$). This includes broad-band photometry from the HST, CFHT, Subaru, VI…
Strong gravitational lensing is a unique tool to model with great accuracy the inner mass distribution of massive galaxy clusters. In particular, clusters with large Einstein radii provide a wealth of multiply imaged systems in the cluster core allowing to determine precisely the shape of the central dark matter profile. This paper presents a spectroscopic survey in the massive cluster Abell 1703, displaying a large Einstein radius (28" at z=2.8) and a high number of strongly-lensed systems including a central ring-like configuration. We used LRIS on Keck to target multiple images and lensed g…
We report on high-resolution JVLA and Chandra observations of the HST Frontier Cluster MACS J0717.5+3745. MACS J0717.5+3745 offers the largest contiguous magnified area of any known cluster, making it a promising target to search for lensed radio and X-ray sources. With the high-resolution 1.0-6.5 GHz JVLA imaging in A and B configuration, we detect a total of 51 compact radio sources within the area covered by the HST imaging. Within this sample we find 7 lensed sources with amplification factors larger than $2$. None of these sources are identified as multiply-lensed. Based on the radio lumi…
We investigate the local and line-of-sight overdensities of strong gravitational lens galaxies using wide-area multiband imaging from the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program. We present 41 new definite or probable lens candidates discovered in Data Release 2 of the survey. Using a combined sample of 87 galaxy-scale lenses out to a lens redshift of $z_{\mathrm{L}} \sim 0.8$, we compare galaxy number counts in lines of sight toward known and newly-discovered lenses in the survey to those of a control sample consisting of random lines of sight. We also compare the local overdensity of lens…

We report a large difference in neutral hydrogen (H I) and metal column densities between the two sight lines probing opposite sides of the lensing galaxy at $z_\mathrm{lens}$ = 0.83 toward the doubly lensed quasar SBS 0909+532. Using archival HST-STIS and Keck HIRES spectra of the lensed quasar images, we measure log $N_\mathrm{H\;I}$ = 18.77 $\pm$ 0.12 cm$^{-2}$ toward the brighter image ($A$) at an impact parameter of $r_A$ = 3.15 kpc and log $N_\mathrm{H\;I}$ = 20.38 $\pm$ 0.20 cm$^{-2}$ toward the fainter image ($B$) at an impact parameter of $r_B$ = 5.74 kpc. This difference by a factor …

We study the total and baryonic mass distributions of the deflector SDSS J0100+1818 through a full strong lensing analysis. The system is composed by an ultra-massive early-type galaxy at $z=0.581$, with total stellar mass of $(1.5 \pm 0.3) 10^{12}$ M$_\odot$ and stellar velocity dispersion of ($450 \pm 40$) km s$^{-1}$, surrounded by ten multiple images of three background sources, two of which spectroscopically confirmed at $z=1.880$. We take advantage of high-resolution HST photometry and VLT/X-shooter spectroscopy to measure the positions of the multiple images and perform a strong lensing…
Using the Spitzer Space Telescope and Herschel Space Observatory, we have conducted a survey of infrared galaxies in the field of the galaxy cluster Abell S1063 (AS1063) at $z=0.347$, which is one of the most massive clusters known and a target of the HST CLASH and Frontier-Field surveys. The Spitzer/MIPS 24 $μ$m and Herschel/PACS & SPIRE images revealed that the core of AS1063 is surprisingly devoid of infrared sources, showing only a few detectable sources within the central r$\sim1^{\prime}$. There is, however, one particularly bright source (2.3 mJy at 24 $μ$m; 106 mJy at 160 $μ$m), which …
We demonstrate that the perturbations of strongly lensed images by low-mass dark matter subhalos are significantly impacted by the concentration of the perturbing subhalo. For subhalo concentrations expected in $Λ$CDM, significant constraints on the concentration can be obtained at HST resolution for subhalos with masses larger than about $10^{10}M_\odot$. Constraints are also possible for lower mass subhalos, if their concentrations are higher than the expected scatter in CDM. We also find that the concentration of lower mass perturbers down to $\sim 10^8M_\odot$ can be well-constrained with …
We present the results of combined deep Keck/NIRC2, HST/WFC3 near-infrared and Herschel far infrared observations of an extremely star forming dusty lensed galaxy identified from the Herschel Astrophysical Terahertz Large Area Survey (H-ATLAS J133542.9+300401). The galaxy is gravitationally lensed by a massive WISE identified galaxy cluster at $z\sim1$. The lensed galaxy is spectroscopically confirmed at $z=2.685$ from detection of $\rm {CO (1 \rightarrow 0)}$ by GBT and from detection of $\rm {CO (3 \rightarrow 2)}$ obtained with CARMA. We use the combined spectroscopic and imaging observatio…
We present a morphological study of the 17 lensed Lyman-$α$ emitter (LAE) galaxies of the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey Emission-Line Lens Survey (BELLS) for the GALaxy-Ly$α$ EmitteR sYstems (BELLS GALLERY) sample. This analysis combines the magnification effect of strong galaxy-galaxy lensing with the high resolution of the Hubble Space Telescope ($HST$) to achieve a physical resolution of $\sim$80 pc for this $2<z<3$ LAE sample, allowing a detailed characterization of the LAE rest-frame ultraviolet continuum surface brightness profiles and substructure. We use lens-model reconstruc…
We report the detection of extended Lyman-$α$ emission from the host galaxy of SDSS~J2222+2745, a strongly lensed quasar at $z = 2.8$. Spectroscopic follow-up clearly reveals extended Lyman-$α$ in emission between two images of the central active galactic nucleus (AGN). We reconstruct the lensed quasar host galaxy in the source plane by applying a strong lens model to HST imaging, and resolve spatial scales as small as $\sim$200 parsecs. In the source plane we recover the host galaxy morphology to within a few hundred parsecs of the central AGN, and map the extended Lyman-$α$ emission to its p…
Absorption spectroscopy of gravitationally lensed quasars (GLQs) enables study of spatial variations in the interstellar and/or circumgalactic medium of foreground galaxies. We report observations of 4 GLQs, each with two images separated by 0.8-3.0", that show strong absorbers at redshifts 0.4$<$$z_{abs}$$<$1.3 in their spectra, including some at the lens redshift with impact parameters 1.5-6.9 kpc. We measure H I Lyman lines along two sight lines each in five absorbers (10 sight lines in total) using HST STIS, and metal lines using Magellan Echellette or Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Our data ha…
