The electromagnetic form factors of octet baryons are investigated with the nonlocal chiral effective theory. The nonlocal interaction generates both the regulator which makes the loop integral convergent and the $Q^2$ dependence of form factors at tree level. Both octet and decuplet intermediate states are included in the one loop calculation. The momentum dependence of baryon form factors are studied up to 1 GeV$^2$ with the same number of parameters as for the nucleon form factors. The obtained magnetic moments of all the baryon octets as well as the radii are in good agreement with the experimental data and/or lattice simulation.
The octet, decuplet and antidecuplet baryon mass spectrum as a function of the Skyrme charge e and the SU(3)_f symmetry breaking parameters is given in tabular form. We also estimate the decuplet-octet and the antidecuplet-octet mass difference. Comparison with existing literature is given.
The SU(3) octet states with baryon number B = 2, hexaquark dibaryons, are considered. Decay coupling constants sum rules for dibaryon octet into two ordinary baryon octets with ?$λ_8$ first order SU(3) symmetry breaking are given. An SU(4) extension of the analysis is commented upon. Possibilities for the experimental observation of multibaryon and anti-multibaryon states are pointed out.
Octet baryon magnetic moments are calculated in framework of the light cone QCD sum rules. The analysis is carried for the general form of the interpolating currents for octet baryons. A comparison of our results on the magnetic moments of octet baryons with the predictions of other approaches and experimental data is presented.
Empirical mass formulae for the baryon octet and decuplet are presented. These formulae are functions of one integer variable and charge state of the baryons. With an exception of Lambda(1116), the formulae generate masses within 0.1% of the observed masses. The formulae also generate the same electromagnetic mass splittings predicted by SU(6)model. Spin 1/2 octet resonances and its relation to the octet mass formula is described.
Using the QCD sum rules method, we estimate the mass and residues of the first radial excitations of octet baryons. The contributions coming from the ground state baryons are eliminated by constructing the linear combinations of the sum rules corresponding to different Lorentz structures. Our predictions of the masses of the first radial excitations of octet baryons are in good agreement with the data.
We study higher twist distribution amplitudes for the SU_F(3) baryon octet. We identify independent functions for all baryons in the isospin symmetry limit and calculate the Wandzura-Wilczek contributions to the twist-4 and 5 distributions amplitudes.
It is argued that the mass spectrum of a baryon octet is linear, consistent with a Gell-Mann--Okubo type relation for the squared masses of the baryons obtained previously by Balázs and Nicolescu. The mass spectrum of a baryon decuplet is briefly discussed.
There is a striking suppression of the cross section for production of octet baryons in $e^+ e ^-$ annihilation, as the mass of the produced hadron increases. We present a simple parametrization for the fragmentation functions into octet baryons guided by two input models: the SU(3) flavor symmetry part is given by a quark-diquark model, and the baryon mass suppression part is inspired by the string model. We need only eight free parameters to describe the fragmentation functions for all octet baryons. These free parameters are determined by a fit to the experimental data of octet baryon produ…
The electromagnetic form factors of octet baryons are estimated within light cone QCD sum rules method, using the most general form of the interpolating current for baryons. A comparison of our predictions on the magnetic dipole and electric form factors with the results of other approaches is performed.
Sum rules are derived relating Dirac mean square radii and anomalous magnetic moments of various couples of the ground state $1/2^+$ octet baryons with the convergent integral of the difference of hadron photoproduction cross-sections on the corresponding baryons. Taking into account the present knowledge of static parameters of baryons a chain of inequalities for total hadronic photoproduction cross-sections on baryons is found from those sum rules.
Dubnicka-Dubnickova-Kuraev (DDK) sum rules are considered. It is shown that integrals over differences of the total photoproduction cross-sections on octet baryons could be understood in terms of unitary symmetry approach. All the DDK sum rules for these quantities are expressed in terms of only three parameters.
The importance of exchange currents, and of conserving isotopic spin at both the quark and baryon levels in application of the chiral quark model to any calculation of baryon magnetic moments is emphasized.
By adopting the nonlinear realization of chiral symmetry, a holographic model for the baryon octet is proposed. The mass spectra of the baryon octet and their low-lying excited states are calculated, which show good consistency with experiments. The couplings of pion to nucleons are derived in two gauges and are shown to be equivalent with each other. It also shows that only derivative couplings of pion to nucleons appear in this holographic model. The coupling constant is then calculated.
Sea quark contents of the octet baryons are investigated by employing an extended chiral constituent quark approach, which embodies higher Fock five-quark components in the baryons wave-functions. The well-known flavor asymmetry of the nucleon sea $\bar{d}-\bar{u}$, is used as input to predict the probabilities of $\bar{u}$, $\bar{d}$ and $\bar{s}$ in the nucleon, $Λ$, $Σ$ and $Ξ$ baryons, due to the intrinsic five-quark components in the baryons wave functions.
Sum rules are derived relating Dirac mean square radii and anomalous magnetic moments of various couples of the ground state $1/2^+$ octet baryons with the convergent integral of the difference of hadron photoproduction total cross-sections on the baryons. The chain of inequalities for corresponding total cross-sections has been found from those sum rules.
Axial-vector transitions of decuplet to octet baryons are parametrized at low energies guided by a complete and minimal chiral Lagrangian up to next-to-leading order. It is pointed out that beyond the well-known leading-order term, there is only one contribution at next-to-leading order. This contribution is flavor symmetric. Therefore the corresponding low-energy constant can be determined in any strangeness sector. As functions of this low-energy constant, we calculate the decay widths and Dalitz distributions for the decays of decuplet baryons to octet baryons, pions, and photons and for th…
The strange form factors of baryon octet are evaluated, in the chiral models with the general chiral SU(3) group structure, to yield the theoretical predictions comparable to the recent experimental data of SAMPLE Collaboration and to study the spin symmetries. Other model predictions are also briefly reviewed to compare with our results and then the strange form factors of baryon octet and decuplet are predicted.
We treat baryons as bound states of scalar or axialvector diquarks and a constituent quark which interact through quark exchange. We obtain fully four-dimensional wave functions for both octet and decuplet baryons as solutions of the corresponding Bethe-Salpeter equation. Applications currently under investigation are: electromagnetic and strong form factors and strangeness production processes.
We study the interaction of the octet of vector mesons with the decuplet of baryons using Lagrangians of the hidden gauge theory for vector interactions. The unitary amplitudes in coupled channels develop poles that can be associated with some known baryonic resonances, while there are predictions for new ones at the energy frontier of the experimental research. The work offers guidelines on how to search for these resonances.
We calculate the semileptonic baryon octet-octet transition form factors using a manifestly Lorentz covariant quark model approach based on the factorization of the contribution of valence quarks and chiral effects. We perform a detailed analysis of SU(3) breaking corrections to the hyperon semileptonic decay form factors. We present complete results on decay rates and asymmetry parameters including lepton mass effects for the rates.
Octet and Decuplet baryons are described within the hadronized NJL model as diquark--quark states, which are bound by quark exchange. Including scalar and axial--vector diquark correlations, we project the previously obtained relativistic Faddeev equation in a Poincaré invariant fashion onto good spin, using a static approximation to the exchanged quark. The resulting equations for the spin 1/2 octet and the spin 3/2 decuplet are solved numerically.
We compute the chiral corrections to octet baryon axial currents through ${\cal O}(p^3)$ in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory, including both octet and decuplet baryon intermediate states. We include the latter in a consistent way by using the small scale expansion. We find that, in contrast to the situation at ${\cal O}(p^2)$, there exist no cancellations between octet and decuplet contributions at ${\cal O}(p^3)$. Consequently, the ${\cal O}(p^3)$ corrections spoil the expected scaling behavior of the chiral expansion. We discuss this result in terms of the $1/N_c$ expansion. We also c…
A version of the bound state soliton model which allows both $η$ and $K$ bound states is used to study low partial wave octet baryon resonances. It is found that negative parity $S-$wave resonances are well described within this framework. A possible interpretation of the $P-$wave resonances is also discussed.
The strong coupling constants between light vector mesons and octet-decuplet baryons are calculated in framework of the light cone QCD sum rules, taking into account SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking effects. It is shown that all strong coupling constants can be represented in terms of a single universal function. Size of the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects are estimated.
We address the impact of treating the decuplet of spin-3/2 baryons as an explicit degree of freedom in the chiral expansion of the magnetic moments of the octet of spin-1/2 baryons. We carry out a complete calculation of the octet moments to O(1/\lamchic), including decuplet contributions to the chiral loops. In contrast to results of previous analyses, we find that inclusion of the decuplet preserves the convergence behavior of the chiral expansion implied by power counting arguments.
The charge radii of octet-baryons obtained in quenched lattice-QCD calculations are extrapolated within heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory. Finite-range regularization (FRR) is applied to improve the convergence of the chiral expansion and to provide estimates of quenching artifacts. Lattice values of quark distribution radii and baryon charge radii for $\mpi^2$ in the range (0.1, 0.7)$\gev^2$ are described very well with FRR. Upon estimating corrections for both finite-volume and quenching effects, the obtained charge radii of the proton, neutron and $Σ^-$ are in good agreement with expe…
The strong coupling constants of light pseudoscalar $π$, $K$ and $η$ mesons with decuplet--octet baryons are studied within light cone QCD sum rules, where $SU(3)_f$ symmetry breaking effects are taken into account. It is obtained that all coupling constants under the consideration are described by only one universal function even if $SU(3)_f$ symmetry breaking effects are switched into the game.
We study the electroweak properties of ground state octet baryons in a relativistic quark-spectator-diquark model, with light-front formalism applied to take relativistic effects into account. Our model provides a consistent picture of the electroweak properties of the ground state octet baryons in the low momentum transfer region. The Melosh-Wigner rotation is applied as the transformation relation between spinors in the instant form and front form. Numerical results are presented for the magnetic moments, weak transition charges and Sachs form factors. Our results are in good agreement with …
Present evidence on baryon axial--vector couplings is reviewed, the main emphasis being on internal consistency between asymmetry and rate data. A complete account of all {\sl small} terms in the Standard Model description of these latter leads to {\sl both} consistency {\sl and} evidence for breaking of flavour SU(3) in the axial couplings of octet baryons. Talk presented at "5th Int. Sympos. on Meson--Nucleon Physics and the Structure of the Nucleon", Boulder, CO, sept. 1993. To be published in $πN$ Newsletter.
We analyze the semileptonic weak decays of the octet baryons in a "{\em model independent}" approach, based on the algebraic structure of the Chiral Quark-Soliton Model. We argue that this analysis is in fact more general than the model itself. While the symmetry breaking for the semileptonic decays themselves is not strong, other quantities like $Δs$ and $ΔΣ$ are much more affected. We calculate $ΔΣ$ and $Δq$ for all octet baryons. Unfortunately, large experimental errors of $Ξ^-$ decays propagate in our analysis, in particular, in the case of $ΔΣ$ and $Δs$. Only if the errors for these decay…
The radiative decays of decuplet to octet baryons are analyzed within the light cone QCD sum rules framework. The electromagnetic transition form factors for these decays are calculated up to twist four accuracy for photon wave functions as well as including first order strange quark mass corrections. A comparison of our results with predictions of lattice theory and existing experimental data is presented.
The electromagnetic properties of the SU(3) octet baryons are investigated in the semibosonized SU(3) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The rotational $1/N_c$ and strange quark mass corrections in linear order are taken into account. It turns out that the model is in good agreement with the experimental data.
We apply the perturbative chiral quark model at one loop to analyze the electromagnetic form factors of the baryon octet. The analytic expressions for baryon form factors, which are given in terms of fundamental parameters of low-energy pion-nucleon physics (weak pion decay constant, axial nucleon coupling, strong pion-nucleon form factor), and the numerical results for baryon magnetic moments, charge and magnetic radii are presented. Our results are in good agreement with experimental data.
We calculate the parton distributions for both polarized and unpolarized octet and decuplet baryons, using the MIT bag, dressed by mesons. We show that the hyperfine interaction responsible for the $Δ- N$ and $Σ^0 - Λ$ splittings leads to large deviations from SU(3) and SU(6) predictions. For the $Λ$ we find significant polarized, non-strange parton distributions which lead to a sizable $Λ$ polarization in polarized, semi-inclusive $ep$ scattering. We also discuss the flavour symmetry violation arising from the meson-cloud associated with the chiral structure of baryons.
It is clearly demonstrated that numerical values of the $f^F, f^D$ and $f^S$ coupling constants in SU(3) invariant Lagrangian of the interaction of the vector-meson nonets with $1/2^+$ octet baryons do not depend on the chosen version of the $ω-ϕ$ mixing.
The effects of "quark sea" in determining the flavor structure of the octet baryons have been investigated in the chiral constituent quark model (\chiCQM). The \chiCQM is able to qualitatively generate the requisite amount of quark sea and is also known to provide a satisfactory explanation of the proton spin and related issues in the nonperturbative regime. The Bjorken scaling variable x has been included phenomenologically in the sea quark distribution functions to understand its implications on the quark sea asymmetries like \bar d(x)-\bar (x), \bar d(x)/\bar u(x) and Gottfried integral for…
The q-deformed Clebsch-Gordan coefficients corresponding to the $\lrpy{3}\times\lrpy{21}$ reduction of the $SU_q(3)$ quantum algebra are computed. From these results and using the quantum Clebsch-Gordan coefficients for the $\lrpy{21}\times\lrpy{21}$ reduction found by Zhong Qi Ma, the q-deformed Gell-Mann-Okubo mass relations for octet and decuplet baryons are determined by generalizing the procedure used for the SU(3) algebra. We also determine the Coleman-Glashow relations for octet and decuplet baryons in the $SU_q(3)$ algebra. Finally, by using the experimental particle masses of the octe…
We have investigated the axial charges of the ground octet baryons within the extended chiral constituent quark model, where all the possible compact five-quark Fock components $qqq(q\bar{q}) (q=u, d, s)$ in the baryons are considered. The transition couplings between the three- and five-quark components in the baryons are assumed to be via the $^{3}P_{0}$ mechanism, which could reproduce the sea asymmetry in proton very well. The numerical results for the flavor-dependent axial charges of the octet baryons are comparable to those predicted by other theoretical approaches. It is shown that the…
In this paper the stability of the hedgehog shape of the chiral soliton is studied for the octet baryon with the SU(3) chiral quark soliton model. The strangeness degrees of freedom are treated by a simplified bound-state approach, which omits the locality of the kaon wave function. The mean field approximation for the flavor rotation is applied to the model. The classical soliton changes shape according to the strangeness. The baryon appears as a rotational band of the combined system of the deformed soliton and the kaon.
We present an effective model, which is an extension of the usual linear sigma model, that contains a low energy multiplet for every hadronic particle type. These multiplets are a scalar nonet, a pseudoscalar nonet, a vector nonet, an axialvector nonet, a baryon octet and a baryon decuplet. Tree level baryon masses and possible two body decuplet decays are calculated. The baryon masses are generated through spontaneous symmetry breaking. The calculated quantities are used to determine the model parameters through a multiparametric minimalization process, which compares the calculated physical …
Mesonic fluctuations around the chiral solitons are investigated in the SU(3) chiral quark soliton model. Since the soliton takes the non-hedgehog shape for the hyperons and the hedgehog one for the non-hedgehog baryons in our approach, the fluctuations also change according to the baryonic state. The quantum corrections to the masses (the Casimir energies) are estimated for the octet and decuplet baryons. The lack of the confinement in this model demands the cutoff on the energy of the fluctuations. Under the assumption that the value of the cutoff energy is $2\times$(the lightest constituent…
The strong coupling constants of the $π$ and $K$ mesons with negative parity octet baryons are estimated within the light cone QCD sum rules. It is observed that all strong coupling constants, similar to the case for the positive parity baryons, can be described in terms of three invariant functions, where two of them correspond to the well known $F$ and $D$ couplings in the $SU(3)_f$ symmetry, and the third function describes the $SU(3)_f$ symmetry violating effects. We compare our predictions on the strong coupling constants of pseudoscalar mesons of negative parity baryons with those corres…
Light cone QCD sum rules for the electromagnetic transition form factors among positive and negative parity octet baryons are derived. The unwanted contributions of the diagonal transitions among positive parity octet baryons are eliminated by combining the sum rules derived from different Lorentz structures. The $Q^2$ dependence for the transversal and longitudinal helicity amplitudes are studied.
Baryon mass splittings are analyzed in terms of a simple model with general pairwise interactions. At present, the $Δ$ masses are poorly known from experiments. Improvement of these data would provide an opportunity to make a significant test of our understanding of electromagnetic and quark-mass contributions to hadronic masses. The problem of determining resonance masses from scattering and production data is discussed.
We study the weak vector and axial-vector form factors of first- and second-class currents for the semileptonic octet baryon decays in the spirit of the chiral quark model. Our results for the weak magnetism form factors are consistent with the conserved vector current (CVC) results. The induced pseudotensor form factors, which are highly model dependent, are small. The overall performance of the chiral quark model is quite good and in general agreement with existing experimental data.
A statistical model for the parton distributions in the nucleon has proven its efficiency in the analysis of deep inelastic scattering data, so we propose to extend this approach to the description of unpolarized fragmentation functions for the octet baryons. The characteristics of the model are determined by using some data on the inclusive production of proton and $Λ$ in unpolarized deep inelastic scattering and a next-to-leading analysis of the available experimental data on the production of unpolarized octet baryons in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. Our results show that both parton distributions…
The quark flavor distribution functions of the octet baryons ($N$, $Σ$, $Ξ$ and $Λ$) have been calculated in the chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM). In particular, the valence and sea quark flavor distribution functions of the scalar density matrix elements of octet baryons have been computed explicitly. The implications of chiral symmetry breaking and SU(3) symmetry breaking have been discussed in detail for the sea quark asymmetries, fraction of a particular quark (antiquark) present in a baryon, flavor structure functions and the Gottfried integral. The meson-baryon sigma terms $σ_{πB}…
The charge radii of the octet and decuplet baryons have been calculated in the framework of chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM) using a general parameterization (GP) method. Our results are comparable with the latest experimental studies as well as with other phenomenological models. The effects of SU(3) symmetry breaking and GP parameters pertaining to the one-, two- and three-quark contributions have also been investigated in detail.
The production of the octet of baryons and mesons in e^+ e^- collisions is analysed, based on considerations of SU(3) symmetry and a simple model for SU(3) symmetry breaking in fragmentation functions. All fragmentation functions, D_q^h(x, Q^2), describing the fragmentation of quarks into a member of the baryon octet (and similarly for fragmentation into members of the meson octet) are expressed in terms of three SU(3) symmetric functions, α(x, Q^2), β(x, Q^2), and γ(x, Q^2). With the introduction of an SU(3) breaking parameter, λ, the model is successful in describing hadroproduction data at …
We investigate the gravitational form factors of the baryon octet within the framework of the SU(3) chiral quark-soliton model, considering the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking, and the corresponding energy-momentum tensor distributions. We examine the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking to the mass, angular momentum, pressure, and shear force distributions of the baryon octet. We first find that a heavier baryon is energetically more compact than a lighter one. For the spin distributions of the baryon octet, they are properly normalized to their spins and are decomposed into th…
It is demonstrated how an utilization of all existing experimental information on electric and magnetic nucleon form factors, to be described by the Unitary and Analytic (U\&A) nucleon electromagnetic structure model in space-like and time-like regions simultaneously, can provide numerical values of $f^F$, $f^D$, $f^S$ coupling constants in $SU(3)$ invariant interaction Lagrangian of the vector-meson nonet with $1/2^+$ octet baryons. The latter, together with universal vector-meson coupling constants $f_V$, play an essential role in a prediction of $1/2^+$ octet hyperon electromagnetic form fa…
The weak vector and axial-vector form factors have been investigated for the semi-leptonic octet baryon decays in the chiral constituent quark model with configuration mixing (\chiCQM_{config}). The effects of SU(3) symmetry breaking and configuration mixing have also been investigated and the results are not only in good agreement with existing experimental data but also show improvement over other phenomenological models.
Systematic treatment of the collective rotation of the nonrigid chiral soliton is developed in the SU(3) chiral quark soliton model and applied to the octet and decuplet baryons. The strangeness degrees of freedom are treated by a simplified bound-state approach which omits the locality of the kaon wave function. Then, the flavor rotation is divided into the isospin rotation and the emission and absorption of the kaon. The kaon Hamiltonian is diagonalized by the Hartree approximation. The soliton changes the shape according to the strangeness. The baryons appear as the rotational bands of the …
The baryon axial vector current is computed at one-loop order in large-N_c baryon chiral perturbation theory, where N_c is the number of colors. Loop graphs with octet and decuplet intermediate states are systematically incorporated into the analysis and the effects of the decuplet-octet mass difference and SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking are accounted for. As expected, large-N_c cancellations between different one-loop graphs are observed as a consequence of the large-N_c spin-flavor symmetry of QCD baryons. Fitting our analytical formulas against experimental data on baryon semileptonic decay…
The Coleman-Glashow sum-rule for magnetic moments is always fulfilled in the chiral quark model, independently of SU(3) symmetry breaking. This is due to the structure of the wave functions, coming from the non-relativistic quark model. Experimentally, the Coleman-Glashow sum-rule is violated by about ten standard deviations. To overcome this problem, two models of wave functions with configuration mixing are studied. One of these models violates the Coleman-Glashow sum-rule to the right degree and also reproduces the octet baryon magnetic moments rather accurately.
We compute the diagonal isovector axial-vector as well as induced pseudoscalar form factors of nucleon, $Σ$ and $Ξ$ baryons by employing the light-cone QCD sum rules to leading order in QCD and including distribution amplitudes up to twist 6. Extrapolating our sum-rules results to low-momentum transfers, we make a comparison with experimental and lattice-QCD results where we can achieve a nice qualitative and quantitative agreement.
