We construct left invariant special Kähler structures on the cotangent bundle of a flat pseudo-Riemannian Lie group. We introduce the twisted cartesian product of two special Kähler Lie algebras according to two linear representations by infinitesimal Kähler transformations. We also exhibit a double extension process of a special Kähler Lie algebra which allows us to get all simply connected special Kähler Lie groups with bi-invariant symplectic connections. All Lie groups constructed by performing this double extension process can be identified with a subgroup of symplectic (or Kähler) affine transformations of its Lie algebra containing a nontrivial $1$-parameter subgroup formed by central translations. We show a characterization of left invariant flat special Kähler structures using étale Kähler affine representations, exhibit some immediate consequences of the constructions mentioned above, and give several non-trivial examples.
The real Jacobi group $G^J_1(\mathbb{R})$, defined as the semi-direct product of the group ${\rm SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ with the Heisenberg group $H_1$, is embedded in a $4\times 4$ matrix realisation of the group ${\rm Sp}(2,\mathbb{R})$. The left-invariant one-forms on $G^J_1(\mathbb{R})$ and their dual orthogonal left-invariant vector fields are calculated in the S-coordinates $(x,y,θ,p,q,κ)$, and a left-invariant metric depending of 4 parameters $(α,β,γ,δ)$ is obtained. An invariant metric depending of $(α,β)$ in the variables $(x,y,θ)$ on the Sasaki manifold ${\rm SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$ is presen…
In this paper, we study left invariant conic Finsler metrics on the 2-dimensional non-Abelian Lie group $G$ with nowhere vanishing spray vector fields, and classify those satisfying the constant curvature condition, the Landsberg condition or the Berwald condition respectively. We prove that any left invariant conic Landsberg metric on $G$ must be Berwald. This discovery enable us to propose a homogeneous conic Landsberg Conjecture, which guesses that every homogeneous conic Landsberg metric is Berwald, and prove the 2-dimensional case for it.
There are five unimodular simply connected three dimensional unimodular non abelian Lie groups: the nilpotent Lie group $\mathrm{Nil}$, the special unitary group $\mathrm{SU}(2)$, the universal covering group $\widetilde{\mathrm{PSL}}(2,\mathbb{R})$ of the special linear group, the solvable Lie group $\mathrm{Sol}$ and the universal covering group $\widetilde{\mathrm{E}_0}(2)$ of the connected component of the Euclidean group. For each $G$ among these Lie groups, we give explicitly the list of all Lorentzian left invariant metrics on $G$, up to un automorphism of $G$. Moreover, for any Lorentz…
A special symplectic Lie group is a triple $(G,ω,\nabla)$ such that $G$ is a finite-dimensional real Lie group and $ω$ is a left invariant symplectic form on $G$ which is parallel with respect to a left invariant affine structure $\nabla$. In this paper starting from a special symplectic Lie group we show how to ``deform" the standard Lie group structure on the (co)tangent bundle through the left invariant affine structure $\nabla$ such that the resulting Lie group admits families of left invariant hypersymplectic structures and thus becomes a hypersymplectic Lie group. We consider the affine …
We provide an easy approach to the geodesic distance on the general linear group GL(n) for left-invariant Riemannian metrics which are also right-O(n)-invariant. The parametrization of geodesic curves and the global existence of length minimizing geodesics are deduced using simple methods based on the calculus of variations and classical analysis only. The geodesic distance is discussed for some special cases and applications towards the theory of nonlinear elasticity are indicated.
The authors find geodesics, shortest arcs, diameter, cut locus, and conjugate sets for left-invariant sub-Riemannian metric on the Lie group SO(3), under condition that the metric is right-invariant relative to the Lie subgroup $SO(2)\subset SO(3)$.
In this paper we prove that the compact Lie group $G_2$ admits a left-invariant Einstein metric that is not geodesic orbit. In order to prove the required assertion, we develop some special tools for geodesic orbit Riemannian manifolds. It should be noted that a suitable metric is discovered in a recent paper by I. Chrysikos and Y. Sakane, where the authors proved also that this metric is not naturally reductive.
Symmetric connections that are compatible with semi-Riemannian metrics can be characterized using an existence result for an integral leaf of a (possibly non integrable) distribution. In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a left-invariant connection on a Lie group to be the Levi-Civita connection of some semi-Riemannian metric on the group. As a special case, we will consider constant connections in $\R^n$.
We show the correspondence between left invariant flat projective structures on Lie groups and certain prehomogeneous vector spaces. Moreover by using the classification theory of prehomogeneous vector spaces, we classify complex Lie groups admitting irreducible left invariant flat complex projective structures. As a result, direct sums of special linear Lie algebras sl(2) \oplus sl(m_1) \oplus \cdots \oplus sl(m_k) admit left invariant flat complex projective structures if the equality 4 + m_1^2 + \cdots + m_k^2 -k - 4 m_1 m_2 \cdots m_k = 0 holds. These contain sl(2), sl(2) \oplus sl(3)$, sl…
In this paper we consider simply connected Lie groups equipped with left invariant Randers metrics which arise from left invariant Riemannian metrics and left invariant vector fields. Then we study the intersection between automorphism and isometry groups of these spaces. Finally it has shown that for any left invariant vector field, in a special case, the Lie group admits a left invariant Randers metric such that this intersection is a maximal compact subgroup of the group of automorphisms with respect to which the considered vector field is invariant.
The author finds geodesics, shortest arcs, cut locus, and conjugate sets for left-invariant sub-Riemannian metric on the Lie group $SO_0(2,1)$ under the condition that the metric is right-invariant relative to the Lie subgroup $SO(2)\subset SO_0(2,1)$.
The authors found geodesics, shortest arcs, cut loci, and conjugate sets for left-invariant sub-Riemannian matric on the Lie group $SL(2)$, which is right-invariant relative to the Lie subgroup $SO(2)\subset SL(2)$ (in other words, for invariant sub-Riemannian metric on weakly symmetric space $(SL(2)\times SO(2))/SO(2)$).
In this work we investigate solvable and nilpotent Lie groups with special metrics. The metrics of interest are left-invariant Einstein and algebraic Ricci soliton metrics. Our main result shows that the existence of a such a metric is intrinsic to the underlying Lie algebra. More precisely, we show how one may determine the existence of such a metric by analyzing algebraic properties of the Lie algebra in question and infinitesimal deformations of any initial metric. Our second main result concerns the isometry groups of such distinguished metrics. Among the completely solvable unimodular Lie…
We study the projective special Kaehler condition on groups, providing an intrinsic definition of homogeneous projective special Kaehler that includes the previously known examples. We give intrinsic defining equations that may be used without resorting to computations in the special cone, and emphasise certain associated integrability equations. The definition is shown to have the property that the image of such structures under the c-map is necessarily a left-invariant quaternionic Kaehler structure on a Lie group.
In the present paper, the flag curvature of invariant Randers metrics on homogeneous spaces and Lie groups is studied. We first give an explicit formula for the flag curvature of invariant Randers metrics arising from invariant Riemannian metrics on homogeneous spaces and, in special case, Lie groups. We then study Randers metrics of constant positive flag curvature and complete underlying Riemannian metric on Lie groups. Finally we give some properties of those Lie groups which admit a left invariant non-Riemannian Randers metric of Berwald type arising from a left invariant Riemannian metric…
This paper deals with affine connections on real manifolds. We give a new characterization of flat affine connections on real manifolds by means of certain affine representations of the Lie group of automorphisms preserving the connection. Then we specialize the characterization to the case of a left invariant connection on a Lie group. In the last case, we show the existence of a Lie group endowed with a flat affine bi-invariant connection whose Lie algebra contains the Lie algebra of complete infinitesimal affine transformations of the given Lie group. We also prove some results about flat a…
For a complex manifold $(M,J)$, an SKT (or pluriclosed) metric is a $J$-Hermitian metric $g$ whose fundamental form $ω:=g(J\cdot,\cdot)$ satisfies the condition $\partial\overline{\partial}ω=0$. As such, an SKT metric can be regarded as a natural generalization of a Kähler metric. In this paper, the exceptional Lie group $G_2$ is equipped with a left-invariant integrable almost complex structure $\mathcal{J}$ via the Samelson construction and a 7-parameter family of $\mathcal{J}$-Hermitian metrics is constructed. From this 7-parameter family, the members which are SKT are calculated. The resul…
In this paper we study the behavior of the Ricci flow at infinity for the full flag manifold $SU(3)/T$ using techniques of the qualitative theory of differential equations, in special the Poincaré Compactification and Lyapunov exponents. We prove that there are four invariant lines for the Ricci flow equation, each one associated with a singularity corresponding to a Einstein metric. In such manifold, the bi-invariant normal metric is Einstein. Moreover, around each invariant line there is a cylinder of initial conditions such that the limit metric under the Ricci flow is the corresponding Ein…
Left invariant metrics induced by the p-norms of the trace in the matrix algebra are studied on the general lineal group. By means of the Euler-Lagrange equations, existence and uniqueness of extremal paths for the length functional are established, and regularity properties of these extremal paths are obtained. Minimizing paths in the group are shown to have a velocity with constant singular values and multiplicity. In several special cases, these geodesic paths are computed explicitly. In particular the Riemannian geodesics, corresponding to the case p=2, are characterized as the product of …
We construct explicit left invariant quaternionic contact structures on Lie groups with zero and non-zero torsion, and with non-vanishing quaternionic contact conformal curvature tensor, thus showing the existence of quaternionic contact manifolds not locally quaternionic contact conformal to the quaternionic sphere. We present a left invariant quaternionic contact structure on a seven dimensional non-nilpotent Lie group, and show that this structure is locally quaternionic contact conformal to the flat quaternionic contact structure on the quaternionic Heisenberg group. On the product of a se…
