Systems with continuous symmetry of the vector order parameter containing defects of the "random local field" or "random local anisotropy" types are investigated. It is shown that the disordered Imry-Ma phase, in which the order parameter follows the spatial fluctuations of the random field or random anisotropy direction, can also occur in a coordinate space of dimension d higher than the lower critical dimension dl = 4. For this, the hyperplanes of dimension m < dl, must exist in the coordinate space in which there is a strong exchange interaction between spins, and the interaction between spins belonging to adjacent hyperplanes should not exceed a certain critical value.

The anisotropy induced by defects of "random local field" type in O(n) models and suppression of the Imry-Ma inhomogeneous state

We demonstrate that in the system with anisotropic distribution of the defect-induced random local field directions in the n-dimensional space of vector order parameter with the O(n) symmetry, the defect-induced effective anisotropy arises for the space dimensionality 2<d<4. If the anisotropy constant exceeds the threshold value, then an inhomogeneous state predicted by Imry and Ma becomes energetically unfavorable, and the system goes back to the state with the long-range order.

Random Field XY Model in Three Dimensions

We study random-field xy spin model at T=0 numerically on lattices of up to 1000 x 1000 x 1000 spins with the accent on the weak random field. Our numerical method is physically equivalent to slow cooling in which the system is gradually losing the energy and relaxing to an energy minimum. Integrated Random Projection and Dimensionality Reduction by Propagating Light in Photonic Lattices

It is proposed that the propagation of light in disordered photonic lattices can be harnessed as a random projection that preserves distances between a set of projected vectors. This mapping is enabled by the complex evolution matrix of a photonic lattice with diagonal disorder, which turns out to be a random complex Gaussian matrix. Failure of the simultaneous block diagonalization technique applied to complete and cluster synchronization of random networks

We discuss here the application of the simultaneous block diagonalization (SBD) of matrices to the study of the stability of both complete and cluster synchronization in random (generic) networks. For both problems, we define indices that measure success (or failure) of application of the SBD technique in decoupling the stability problem into problems of lower dimensionality. We then see that in the case of random networks the extent of the dimensionality reduction achievable is the same as that produced by application of a trivial transformation.
