An index theorem for higher orbital integrals

Local formula for the index of a Fourier Integral Operator

We show that the index of an elliptic Fourier integral operator associated to a contact diffeomorphism $ϕ$ of cosphere bundles of two Riemannian manifolds X and Y is given by $\int_{B^*X}\hat{A}(T^*X)\expθ - \int_{B^*Y}\hat{A}(T^*Y)\expθ$. Here $B^*$ stands for the unit coball bundle and $θ$ is a certain characteristic class depending on the principal symbol of the Fourier integral operator. In the special case when X=Y we obtain a different proof of the theorem of Epstein and Melrose.

A cohomological formula for the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index on manifolds with boundary

We give a cohomological formula for the index of a fully elliptic pseudodifferential operator on a manifold with boundary. As in the classic case of Atiyah-Singer, we use an embedding into an euclidean space to express the index as the integral of a cohomology class depending in this case on a noncommutative symbol, the integral being over a $C^\infty$-manifold called the singular normal bundle associated to the embedding. The formula is based on a K-theoretical Atiyah-Patodi-Singer theorem for manifolds with boundary that is drawn from Connes' tangent groupoid approach.

On the index of Dirac operators on arithmetic quotients

Using the Arthur-Selberg trace formula we express the index of a Dirac operator on an arithmetic quotient over a totally real field with at least two real embeddings as the integral over the index form plus a sum of orbital integrals. For the Euler operator these orbital integrals are shown to vanish for products of rank one spaces. In this case the index theorem looks exactly as in the compact case.

Whitney's index formula in higher dimensions and Laplace integrals

The famous Whitney formula relates the winding number of the smooth generic curve in the real plane to the number of its self-intersection points counted with appropriate signs. We extend this formula to smooth immersions of R^n to R^{2n}. Then use this result together with the general technique of Laplace integrals to get an explicit formula for the generator of the group H^n of Stiefel variety V(n,2n).
