For a long time, the predictive limits of perturbative quantum field theory have been limited by our inability to carry out loop calculations to arbitrarily high order, which become increasingly complex as the order of perturbation theory is increased. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that perturbation series derived from loop diagram (Feynman diagram) calculations represent asymptotic (divergent) series which limits the predictive power of perturbative quantum field theory. Here, we discuss an ansatz which could overcome these limits, based on the observations that (i) for many phenomenologically relevant field theories, one can derive dispersion relations which relate the large-order growth (the asymptotic limit of "infinite loop order") with the imaginary part of arbitrary correlation functions, for negative coupling ("unstable vacuum"), and (ii) one can analyze the imaginary part for negative coupling in terms of classical field configurations (instantons). Unfortunately, the perturbation theory around instantons, which could lead to much more accurate predictions for the large-order behavior of Feynman diagrams, poses a number of technical as well as computational difficulties. Here, we study, to further the above mentioned ansatz, correlation functions in a one-dimensional (1D) field theory with a quartic self-interaction and an O(N) internal symmetry group, otherwise known as the 1D N-vector model. Our focus is on corrections to the large-order growth of perturbative coefficients, i.e., the limit of a large number of loops in the Feynman diagram expansion. We evaluate, in momentum space, the two-loop corrections for the two-point correlation function, and its derivative with respect to the momentum, as well as the two-point correlation function with a wigglet insertion. Also, we study the four-point function.
We present the ultraviolet poles and finite terms of two-loop vertex corrections for diagrams with massive partons in the eikonal approximation. We discover and prove that the results for a set of the corrections generalize to n-loop eikonal diagrams. These results will enhance theoretical understanding and allow greater calculational accuracy for the many partonic processes where the eikonal approximation is applied.
Feynman diagrams in the instanton background are used for the calculation of the tunneling amplitude, up to the two-loops order. Some mistakes made in the previous works are corrected. The same method is applied to the next-order corrections to the ground state wave function.
We further study the cancellation of the one-loop corrections to the scalar mass in a six dimensional SU(2) gauge theory with higher dimensional operators, which is compactified on a torus with magnetic flux. Higher dimensional operators also contribute to the corrections to the scalar mass nontrivially. We explicitly show by the diagrammatic calculations that the corrections are exactly cancelled even with the leading terms of the higher dimensional operators.
We analytically compute all four-loop QCD corrections to the photon-quark and Higgs-gluon form factors involving a closed massless fermion loop. Our calculation of non-planar vertex integrals confirms a previous conjecture for the analytical form of the non-fermionic contributions to the collinear anomalous dimensions of quarks and gluons.
We report on the recent progress in computing the effective supergravity action from superstring scattering amplitudes beyond the tree approximation. We discuss the moduli-dependent string loop corrections to gauge, gravitational and Yukawa couplings.
We recalculate the two loop corrections in the background heat bath using real time formalism. The procedure of the integrations of loop momenta with dependence on finite temperature before the momenta without it, has been followed. We determine the mass and wavefunction renormalization constants in the low temperature limit of QED, for the first time with this preferred order of integrations. The correction to electron mass and spinors in this limit is important in the early universe at the time of primordial nucleosynthesis as well as in astrophysics.
We calculate one-loop corrections to the mass for the zero mode of scalar field in a six-dimensional Yang-Mills theory compactified on a torus with magnetic flux. It is shown that these corrections are exactly cancelled thanks to a shift symmetry under the translation in extra spaces. This result is expected from the fact that the zero mode of scalar field is a Nambu-Goldstone boson of the translational invariance in extra spaces.
We obtain the two-loop QCD corrections to the Higgs plus three-parton amplitudes with dimension-seven operators in Higgs effective field theory. This provides the two-loop S-matrix elements for Higgs plus one-jet production at the LHC with top-mass correction. We apply efficient unitarity plus IBP methods which are described in detail. We also study the color decomposition of the fermion cuts and find a connection between fundamental and adjoint representations which can be used to reduce non-planar to planar unitarity cuts in the Higgs to three-gluon amplitudes. We obtain final results in sim…
We determine the two loop correction to Gribov's mass gap equation for quantum chromodynamics in the Landau gauge in the MSbar scheme by computing the two loop correction to the horizon condition derived from Zwanziger's local renormalizable Lagrangian which incorporates the Gribov parameter. We verify that with the explicit result, the two loop ghost propagator is enchanced in the infrared.
We calculate one--loop corrections to the vertexes and propagators of photons and charged particles in the strong electric field backgrounds. We use the Schwinger--Keldysh diagrammatic technique. We observe that photon's Keldysh propagator receives growing with time infrared contribution. As the result, loop corrections are not suppressed in comparison with tree--level contribution. This effect substantially changes the standard picture of the pair production. To sum up leading IR corrections from all loops we consider the infrared limit of the Dyson--Schwinger equations and reduce them to a s…
In this paper, we investigate one-loop radiative corrections to the Casimir energy in the presence of two perfectly conducting parallel plates for QED theory within the renormalized perturbation theory. In fact, there are three contributions for radiative corrections to the Casimir energy, up to order $α$. Only the two-loop diagram, which is of order $α$, has been computed by Bordag et. al (1985), approximately. Here, up to this order, we consider corrections due to two one-loop terms, i.e., photonic and fermionic loop corrections resulting from renormalized QED Lagrangian, more precisely. Our…
The thermodynamics of pure glue theories can be described in terms of an effective action for the Polyakov loop. This effective action is of the Landau-Ginzburg type and its variables are the angles parametrizing the loop. In this paper we compute perturbative corrections to this action. Remarkably, two-loop corrections turn out to be proportional to the one-loop action, independent of the eigenvalues of the loop. By a straightforward generalization of the 't Hooft coupling this surprisingly simple result holds for any of the classical and exceptional groups.
We calculate 1-loop corrections to the Schwinger-Keldysh propagators of Standard-Model-like fields of spin-0, 1/2, and 1, with all renormalizable interactions during inflation. We pay special attention to the late-time divergences of loop corrections, and show that the divergences can be resummed into finite results in the late-time limit using dynamical renormalization group method. This is our first step toward studying both the standard model and new physics in the primordial universe.
We determine one-loop string corrections to Kahler potentials in type IIB orientifold compactifications with either N=1 or N=2 supersymmetry, including D-brane moduli, by evaluating string scattering amplitudes.
We study instanton corrections to the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of 1/6 BPS Wilson loops in ABJM theory from the Fermi gas approach. We mainly consider Wilson loops in the fundamental representation and winding Wilson loops, but we also initiate the study of Wilson loops with two boundaries. We find that the membrane instanton corrections to the Wilson loop VEV are determined by the refined topological string in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit, and the pole cancellation mechanism between membrane instantons and worldsheet instantons works also in the Wilson loop VEVs as in the case of the p…
We consider radiative corrections to false vacuum decay in a four-dimensional scalar field theory with cubic and quartic potential. Using planar thin wall approximation we were able to get analytical expression for the decay rate up to two loop order. The results obtained employ dimensional regularization and $\overline{MS}$ renormalization scheme.
We discuss the string corrections to one-loop amplitudes in AdS$_5\times$S$^5$, focussing on their expressions in Mellin space. We present the leading $(α')^3$ corrections to the family of correlators $\langle \mathcal{O}_2 \mathcal{O}_2 \mathcal{O}_p \mathcal{O}_p \rangle$ at one loop and begin the exploration of the form of correlators with multiple channels. From these correlators we extract some string corrections to one-loop anomalous dimensions of families of operators of low twist.
We study stringy fluctuations as a source for corrections to the Wilson loop as obtained from the superstrings on (adS_5 x S^5)/ N=4 SYM correspondence. We give a formal expression in terms of determinants of two dimensional operators for the leading order correction.
Within recent Maldacena's proposal to relate gauge theories in the large N limit to the supergravity in the AdS background and recipe for calculation the Wilson loop, we compute corrections to the energy of quark/anti-quark pair in the large N limit.
The article gives explicit calculation and interpretation of the additional locally anisotropic effects. Double role of the resulted gauge like fields discussed.
We study loop corrections to the universal dilaton supermultiplet for type IIA strings compactified on Calabi-Yau threefolds. We show that the corresponding quaternionic kinetic terms receive non-trivial one-loop contributions proportional to the Euler number of the Calabi-Yau manifold, while the higher-loop corrections can be absorbed by field redefinitions. The corrected metric is no longer Kahler. Our analysis implies in particular that the Calabi-Yau volume is renormalized by loop effects which are present even in higher orders, while there are also one-loop corrections to the Bianchi iden…
Quantum theory of 2d gravity is examined by including a special quantum correction, which corresponds to the open string loop corrections and provides a new conformal anomaly for the corresponding $σ$ model. This anomaly leads to the condensation of the tachyon, and the resultant effective theory implies a possibility of extending the 2d gravity to the case of $c>1$.
Perturbative corrections to N=1/2 supersymmetric U(N) gauge theory at one-loop order are studied. It is shown that whereas the quantum corrections to N=1 sector of the theory are not affected by the C-deformation, the non(anti)commutativity parameter C receives one-loop perturbative corrections. These perturbative corrections are computed by performing an explicit one-loop calculation of the three and four-point functions of the theory. The running of the non(anti)commutativity parameter C is also studied using an appropriate Callan-Symanzik equation.
In the framework of a recently proposed method for computing exactly string amplitudes regularized in the infra-red, I determine the one-loop correlators for auxiliary fields in the symmetric $Z_2\times Z_2$ orbifold model. The $D$-field correlation function turns out to give the one-loop corrections for the gauge couplings, which amounts to a string-theory supersymmetry Ward identity. The two-point function for uncharged $F$ fields leads to the one-loop renormalization of the moduli Kähler metric, and eventually to the corrections for the Yukawa couplings.
Two and three loop alpha' corrections are calculated for Kasner and Schwarzschild metrics, and their T-duals, in the bosonic string theory. These metrics are used to obtain the two and three loop alpha' corrections to T-duality. It is noted in particular that the inclusion of alpha' corrections and the requirement of consistency with the alpha'-corrected T-duality for the Kasner and Schwarzschild metrics enables one to fix uniquely the covariant form of the T-duality rules at three loops. As a generalization of the T-dual of the Schwarzschild geometry a class of massless geometries is presente…
In this note we show how the 1-loop exact correction to the subleading soft graviton theorem arising from IR divergences of scattering amplitudes matches onto the quadratic corrections to the soft charges computed from the BMS flux algebra. In the process, we examine how the BMS flux construction extends the celestial diamond framework to non-linear order and non-trivial vacua, and provides the natural symmetry generators for Celestial CFT.
We consider the Bremsstrahlung function associated to a 1/6-BPS Wilson loop in ABJM theory, with a cusp in the couplings to scalar fields. We non-trivially extend its recent four-loop computation at weak coupling to include non-planar corrections. We have recently proposed a conjecture relating this object to supersymmetric circular Wilson loops with multiple windings, which can be computed via localization. We find agreement between this proposal and the perturbative computation of the Bremsstrahlung function, including color sub-leading corrections. This supports the conjecture and hints at …
We discuss the problem of noncommutative SO(N) gauge field theories from the string one-loop point of view. To this end we propose an expression for the string propagator on the boundary of the Moebius strip in the presence of a constant B field. We discuss in detail the problems related to its derivation. Then we use it to compute the one-loop corrections to two-, three- and four-gluon amplitudes in an open string theory with orthogonal Chan-Paton factors. We show that these corrections in the field theory limit in 4D are compatible with the one-loop corrections of a renormalizable noncommuta…
One-loop calculations in quantum gravity coupled to U(1)-Abelian fields (photon fields) are ultraviolet finite and cutoff-free in the framework of causal perturbation theory. We compute the photon loop correction to the graviton propagator and the photon self-energy in second order perturbation theory. Perturbative gauge invariance to second order is shown and generates the gravitational Slavnov-Ward identities.
We study the dispersion relation obtained from the semiclassical loop quantum gravity. This dispersion relation is considered for a photon system at finite temperatures and the changes to the Planck's radiation law, the Wien and Boltzmann laws are discussed. Corrections to the equation of state of the black body radiation are also obtained.
We present a method to calculate the One-loop mass correction to Kinks mass in a (1+1)-dimensional field theoretical model in which the fluctuation potential $V^{\prime\prime}(ϕ_c)$ has shape invariance property. We use the generalized zeta function regularization method to implement our setup for describing quantum kink states.
We investigate two-loop quantum corrections to non-minimally coupled Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory. The non-minimal gauge interaction represents the magnetic moment interaction between the charged scalar and the electromagnetic field. We show that the one-loop renormalizability of the theory found in previous work does not survive to the two-loop level. However, with an appropriate choice of the non-minimal coupling constant, it is possible to renormalize the two-loop effective potential and hence render it potentially useful for a detailed analysis of spontaneous symmetry breaking induced by ra…
In a previous paper (hep-th/0510080) the effective Landau-Lifshitz (LL) Lagrangians in the SU(2) sector coming from string theory and gauge theory have been found to three loops in the effective expansion parameter $\tildeλ=λ/J^2$. In this paper we continue this study and find the effective Landau-Lifshitz Lagrangians to four loops. We extend to four-loops $\tildeλ^4$ the computations of 1/J and $1/J^2$ corrections to BMN energies done in hep-th/0510080 to three-loops. We compare these corrections obtained from quantum ``gauge-theory'' LL action with the corrections obtained from the conjectur…
We compute one-loop correction to the string field theory action of the tachyon for unstable D-branes in the framework of the boundary superstring field theory. We would expect that the one-loop correction comes from the partition function of the two-dimensional world-sheet theory on the annulus. The annulus correction suggests that the genus expansion is, somehow, governed by the effective string coupling defined in terms of the tachyon λ=g_s exp(-T^2/4).
We compute the one-loop correction to the probe D3-brane action in AdS5 x S5 expanded around the classical Drukker-Fiol solution ending on a circle at the boundary. It is given essentially by the logarithm of the one-loop partition function of an Abelian ${\cal N}=4$ vector multiplet in AdS2 x S2 geometry. This one-loop correction is expected to describe the subleading 1/N term in the expectation value of circular Wilson loop in the totally symmetric rank k representation in SU(N) SYM theory at strong coupling. In the limit k << N when the circular Wilson loop expectation values for the symmet…
One-loop corrections to the gauge coupling and the gauge kinetic function in certain classes of four-dimensional D-brane models are computed. It is described how to determine D-instanton corrections to the superpotential and the gauge kinetic function in such models. The Affleck-Dine-Seiberg superpotential is rederived in string theory. The existence of a new class of multi-instantons, dubbed poly-instantons, is conjectured.
We study quantum corrections at one-loop order to the shear viscosity to entropy ratio by implementing the Vilkovisky-Barvinsky effective action in asymptotically Anti-de Sitter spacetimes. The shear viscosity is shown to receive no corrections at this order, but the entropy acquires a logarithmic correction. The coefficient of this logarithm turns out to depend on the spin of the particles running in the loop and it can be either positive or negative. On the basis of this result, we argue that the Kovtun-Son-Starinets bound cannot be seen as a fundamental property of nature beyond the classic…
In heterotic string theory compactified to four dimensions with N=2 supersymmetry, string-loop corrections to the universal sector of the low-energy effective action are studied. Within the framework of N=2 supersymmetric formulation of the theory, in the first order in string coupling constant, we solve the system of the loop-corrected Maxwell and Killing spinor equations. Taking as the in-put the tree-level dyonic black hole solution, we calculate string-loop corrections to the string tree-level metric and moduli of dyonic black hole.
We summarize the structure of N=2 multi-instanton and string loop corrections to the Kähler potential and the gauge kinetic function in type I toroidal orbifold models. For that aim, we exploit perturbative calculations of the physical gauge couplings on the heterotic dual, whenever such a perturbative description is available.
Based on the stochastic gravity, we study the loop corrections to the scalar and tensor perturbations during inflation. Since the loop corrections to scalar perturbations suffer infrared (IR) divergence, we consider the IR regularization to obtain the finite value. We find that the loop corrections to the scalar perturbations are amplified by the e-folding; in other words there appear the logarithmic correction, just as discussed by M.Sloth et al. On the other hand, we find that the tensor perturbations do not suffer from infrared divergence.
It is well known that some spacetime singularities of low energy effective action can be resolved by the effective loop corrections. However, the known potentials for the loop corrections fail to regulate the singularity of three dimensional black string. An alternative method is to introduce an extra flat spatial direction and boost away the singularity by using the $O\left(d,d\right)$ rotation with the special Kalb-Ramond field. In this paper, we investigate a new set of non-local dilaton potentials for the effective loop corrections. The result shows that the singularity of three dimensiona…
We investigate one-loop quantum corrections to the power spectrum of adiabatic perturbation from entropy modes/adiabatic mode cross-interactions in multiple DBI inflationary models. We find that due to the non-canonical kinetic term in DBI models, the loop corrections are enhanced by slow-varying parameter $ε$ and small sound speed $c_s$. Thus, in general the loop-corrections in multi-DBI models can be large. Moreover, we find that the loop-corrections from adiabatic/entropy cross-interaction vertices are IR finite.
We investigate the one loop effective potential of inflation in a standard model of chaotic inflation. The leading one loop corrections to the effective inflaton potential are evaluated in the quasi de Sitter background, and we estimate the one loop correction to the two-point function of the inflaton perturbations in the Hartree approximation. In this approximation, the one loop corrections depends on the total number of e-foldings of inflation and the maximal effect is estimated to be a correction to the power spectrum of a few percent. However, such a correction may be difficult to disentan…
We study $1/N$ corrections to a Wilson loop in holographic duality. Extending the AdS/CFT correspondence beyond the large $N$ limit is an important but a subtle issue, as it needs quantum gravity corrections in the gravity side. To find a physical property of the quantum corrected geometry of near-horizon black 0-branes previously obtained by Hyakutake, we evaluate a Euclidean string worldsheet hanging down in the geometry, which corresponds to a rectangular Wilson loop in the $SU(N)$ quantum mechanics with 16 supercharges at a finite temperature with finite $N$. We find that the potential ene…
We revisit the Ising-nematic quantum critical point with an $m$-dimensional Fermi surface by applying a dimensional regularization scheme, introduced in Phys. Rev. B 92, 035141 (2015). We compute the contribution from two-loop and three-loop diagrams in the intermediate energy range controlled by a crossover scale. We find that for $m=2 $, the corrections continue to be one-loop exact for both the infrared and intermediate energy regimes.
The leading quantum correction to Einstein-Hilbert Hamiltonian coming from large volume vacuum isotropic loop quantum cosmology, is independent of quantization ambiguity parameters. It is shown here that this correction can be viewed as finite volume gravitational Casimir energy due to one-loop `graviton' contributions. In vacuum case sub-leading quantum corrections and in non-vacuum case even leading quantum correction depend on ambiguity parameters. It may be recalled that these are in fact analogous features of perturbative quantum gravity where it is well-known that pure gravity (on-shell)…
We employ a recent, general gauge computation of the one loop graviton contribution to the vacuum polarization on de Sitter to solve for one loop corrections to the photon mode function. The vacuum polarization takes the form of a gauge independent, spin 2 contribution and a gauge dependent, spin 0 contribution. We show that the leading secular corrections derive entirely from the spin 2 contribution.
We compute the one loop corrections from quantum gravity to the self-mass-squared of a massless, minimally coupled scalar on a locally de Sitter background. The calculation was done using dimensional regularization and renormalized by subtracting fourth order BPHZ counterterms. Our result should determine whether quantum gravitational loop corrections can significantly alter the dynamics of a scalar inflaton.
We discuss quantum gravitational loop effects to observable quantities such as curvature power spectrum and primordial non-Gaussianity of cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation. We first review the previously shown case where one gets a time dependence for zeta-zeta correlator due to loop corrections. Then we investigate the effect of loop corrections to primordial non-Gaussianity of CMB. We conclude that, even with a single scalar inflaton, one might get a huge value for non-Gaussianity which would exceed the observed value by at least 30 orders of magnitude. Finally we discuss the conse…
We develop an alternative derivation of the renormalized expression for the one-loop soliton quantum mass corrections in (1+1)-dimensional scalar field theories. We regularize implicitly such quantity by subtracting and adding its corresponding tadpole graph contribution and use the renormalization prescription that such added term vanishes with adequate counterterms. As a result, we get a finite unambiguous formula for the soliton quantum mass corrections up to one-loop order, which turns to be independent of the chosen regularization scheme.
