In this work, the supernova neutrino(SN) charged-current interactions with Gd odd isotopes (A=155 and 157) are studied. We use measured spectra and the quasiparticle-phonon model (MQPM) to calculate the charged current response of odd Gd isotopes to supernova neutrinos. Flux-averaged cross-sections are obtained considering quasi-thermal neutrino spectra.

Antineutrino detectors are practical, non-intrusive tools capable of remotely monitoring the activity of nuclear reactors. Here we explore the sensitivity of the Super-Kamiokande water-Cherenkov detector, following gadolinium loading, to antineutrinos from a nuclear reactor complex at a distance of approximately 190 km. Detecting supernova $ν_e$ is essential for testing supernova and neutrino physics, but the yields are small and the backgrounds from other channels large, e.g., $\sim 10^2$ and $\sim 10^4$ events, respectively, in Super-Kamiokande. Cosmic-ray muons and especially their secondaries break apart nuclei ("spallation") and produce fast neutrons and beta-decay isotopes, which are backgrounds for low-energy experiments. We discuss the diffuse flux of electron neutrinos and antineutrinos from cosmological failed supernovae, stars that collapse directly into a black hole, with no explosion. This flux has a hotter energy spectrum compared to regular, neutron-star forming collapses, and therefore it dominates the total diffuse flux from core collapses above 20-45 MeV of neutrino energy. We propose a long-term strategy for detecting thermal neutrinos from the remnant of binary-neutron-star mergers with a future M-ton water-Cherenkov detector such as Hyper-Kamiokande. Monitoring >~2500 mergers within <~200 Mpc, we may be able to detect a single neutrino with a human-time-scale operation of ~80 Mt years for the merger rate of 1 Mpc^{-3} Myr^{-1}, which is slightly lower than the median value derived by the LIGO-Virgo collaboration with GW170817.
