We study the CP domain walls and the consequent gravitational waves induced by the spontaneous breaking of the CP symmetry in the complex singlet extension to the Standard Model. We impose the constraints from the unitarity, stability and the global minimal of the vacuum solutions on the model parameter space. The CP domain wall profiles and tensions are obtained by numerically solving the relevant field equations. The explicit CP violation terms are then introduced to the potential as biased terms to make the domain walls unstable and collapse, The BBN bound on the magnitude of the energy bias is taken into account. To achieve sufficiently strong gravitational wave signals, the domain wall tension $σ$ is required to be at least $σ/{\rm TeV}^3 \sim \mathcal{O}(10^3)$. We find that the gravitational wave spectrum can be probed in the future SKA and/or DECIGO programs, when the typical mass scale is at least $\sim \mathcal{O}(10)$ TeV and the explicit CP violation terms are as small as $\mathcal{O}(10^{-29}) - \mathcal{O}(10^{-27}) $. The gravitational waves from collapsing domain walls thus provide a complementarity to the probe of extremely small CP violation at high-energy scale.
We study the domain wall solutions in the general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) with a CP-violating phase. The 2HDM with the spontaneouse CP violation is found to have domain wall solutions whose tensions are $\mathcal{O}(10^6)\,{\rm GeV}^3$, which are excluded by the Zel'dovich-Kobzarev-Okun bound. With the explicit CP-violating (CPV) terms as the so-called biased term in the scalar potential, domain walls can collapse in the early Universe. The sizes of the explicit CP violation can be constrained from the Big Bang nucleosynthesis. This constraint is converted to the CPV mixing of $α_c$, an…
Discrete symmetries are widely imposed in particle theories. It is well-known that the spontaneous breaking of discrete symmetries leads to domain walls. Current studies of domain walls have focused on those from the spontaneous breaking of a $Z_2$ symmetry. Larger discrete symmetries have multiple degenerate vacua, leading to the domain walls in principle different from the simplest $Z_2$ domain wall. We take domain walls from $Z_N$ symmetry breaking as an illustrative study, and study in detail the $Z_3$ case, in which semi-analytical results for the tension and thickness of domain walls are…

Models with singlet fields coupling to the Higgs can enable a strongly first order electroweak phase transition, of interest for baryogenesis and gravity waves. We improve on previous attempts to self-consistently solve for the bubble wall properties -- wall speed $v_w$ and shape -- in a highly predictive class of models with $Z_2$-symmetric singlet potentials. A new algorithm is implemented to determine $v_w$ and the wall profiles throughout the singlet parameter space in the case of subsonic walls, focusing on models with strong enough phase transitions to satisfy the sphaleron washout const…
We propose a novel way of probing high scale Dirac leptogenesis, a viable alternative to canonical leptogenesis scenario where the total lepton number is conserved, keeping light standard model (SM) neutrinos purely Dirac. The simplest possible seesaw mechanism for generating light Dirac neutrinos involve heavy singlet Dirac fermions and a singlet scalar. In addition to unbroken global lepton number, a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry is imposed to forbid direct coupling between right and left chiral parts of light Dirac neutrino. Generating light Dirac neutrino mass requires the singlet scalar to acqu…
We discuss a possibility that the domain wall problem in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model is alleviated without introducing a small explicit $Z_3$ breaking term by analyzing the evolution of the singlet scalar field within an inflationary paradigm. The singlet scalar field which explains the $μ$-term tracks a time-varying minimum of the effective potential after inflation and slowly rolls down to its global minimum if there exist sufficiently large negative Hubble-induced corrections on the effective potential for the singlet field, which arise through supergravity. As a conse…
The standard picture of electroweak baryogenesis requires slowly expanding bubbles. This can be difficult to achieve if the vacuum expectation value of a gauge singlet scalar field changes appreciably during the electroweak phase transition. It is important to determine the bubble wall velocity in this case, since the predicted baryon asymmetry can depend sensitively on its value. Here, this calculation is discussed and illustrated in the real singlet extension of the Standard Model. The friction on the bubble wall is computed using a kinetic theory approach and including hydrodynamic effects.…
We study the possible gravitational wave signal and the viability of baryogenesis arising from the electroweak phase transition in an extension of the Standard Model (SM) by a scalar singlet field without a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry. We first analyze the velocity of the expanding true-vacuum bubbles during the phase transition, confirming our previous finding in the unbroken $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry scenario, where the bubble wall velocity can be computed from first principles only for weak transitions with strength parameters $α\lesssim 0.05$, and the Chapman-Jouguet velocity defines the maximum…
We propose an efficient mechanism to realize an invisible axion from a low scale Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking. Our basic model only contains a gauge boson, an up-type vector-like quark, two Higgs doublets and two Higgs singlets besides the standard model fermions and gauge bosons. The physical Peccei-Quinn global symmetry is a result of two independent global symmetries connected by the new gauge symmetry. Anyone of these two global symmetries only acts on either the right-handed top quark or the left-handed new quark so that it can avoid the domain wall problem. Thanks to the electroweak an…
We study a scenario where both dark matter and heavy right handed neutrino (RHN) responsible for leptogenesis acquire masses by crossing the relativistic bubble walls formed as a result of a TeV scale supercooled first order phase transition (FOPT). While this leads to a large out-of-equilibrium abundance of right handed neutrino inside the bubble sufficient to produce the required lepton asymmetry, the dark matter being lighter can still remain in equilibrium with its relic being set by subsequent thermal freeze-out. A classical conformal symmetry ensures the origin of mass via FOPT induced b…
The singlet pseudoscalar sector of light mesons is investigated in the soft-wall model, a bottom-up approach to the AdS/QCD correspondence. The $η^\prime$ mass results from the mixing among the fields dual to the axial current, pseudoscalar current and the $G\tilde G$ operator. The topological susceptibility is computed for any quark mass, and the Witten-Veneziano relation is obtained in the large $N_c$ limit.
We discuss the gravitational wave spectrum produced by first-order phase transitions seeded by domain wall networks. This setup is important for many two-step phase transitions as seen for example in the singlet extension of the standard model. Whenever the correlation length of the domain wall network is larger than the typical bubble size, this setup leads to a gravitational wave signal that is shifted to lower frequencies and with an enhanced amplitude compared to homogeneous phase transitions without domain walls. We discuss our results in light of the recent PTA hints for gravitational wa…
Computing the properties of the bubble wall of a cosmological first order phase transition at electroweak scale is of paramount importance for the correct prediction of the baryon asymmetry of the universe and the spectrum of gravitational waves. By means of the semi-classical formalism we calculate the velocity and thickness of the wall using as theoretical framework the scalar singlet extension of the SM with a parity symmetry and the SM effective field theory supplemented by a dimension six operator. We use these solutions to carefully predict the baryon asymmetry and the gravitational wave…
In many particle physics models, domain wall can form during the phase transition process after discrete symmetry breaking. We study the scenario within a complex singlet extended Standard Model framework, where a strongly first order phase transition can occur depending on the hidden scalar mass and the mixing between the extra heavy Higgs and the SM Higgs mass. The gravitational wave spectrum is of a typical two-peak shape, the amplitude and the peak from the strongly first order phase transition is able to be probed by the future space-based interferometers, and the one locates around the p…
Topological defects can act as local impurities that seed cosmological phase transitions. In this paper we study the case of domain walls, and how they can affect the electroweak phase transition in the Standard Model extended with a $Z_2$-odd scalar singlet. When the transition is two-step, the early breaking of the $Z_2$ symmetry implies the formation of domain walls which can then act as nucleation sites for the second step. We develop a method based on dimensional reduction to calculate the rate of the catalyzed phase transition within the 3d theory on the domain wall surface. By compariso…
We consider the simplest extension of the SM with a complex singlet and a pair of heavy doublet vector quarks, the so-called cSMCS model. In this model, the CP violation can emerge spontaneously as a consequence of the time-dependent phase of the complex singlet vacuum expectation value and the mass mixing of the SM and heavy vector quarks. In our model, the CP-violating time-dependent phase depends on the Higgs field within the bubble-wall via the Higgs-singlet coupling that can directly explain the observed baryon-to-entropy ratio $\sim 9\times 10^{-11}$. Additionally, as a result of the mix…
We present a dedicated complementarity study of gravitational wave and collider measurements of the simplest extension of the Higgs sector: the singlet scalar augmented Standard Model. We study the following issues: (i) the electroweak phase transition patterns admitted by the model, and the proportion of parameter space for each pattern; (ii) the regions of parameter space that give detectable gravitational waves at future space-based detectors; and (iii) the current and future collider measurements of di-Higgs production, as well as searches for a heavy weak diboson resonance, and how these …
We calculate the spectrum of gravitational waves originated from strongly first order electroweak phase transition in the extended Higgs model with a real singlet field. In order to calculate the bubble nucleation rate, we perform a two-field analysis to evaluate bounce solutions connecting the true and the false vacua using the one-loop effective potential at finite temperatures. Imposing the Sakharov condition of the departure from thermal equilibrium for baryogenesis, we survey allowed regions of parameters of the model. We then investigate the gravitational waves produced at electroweak bu…

We propose a next-to-minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) extended by an $\mathbb{A}_{4}\times \boldsymbol{Z}_{3}$ flavor symmetry and three right-handed neutrinos providing a detailed study of the neutrino sector and a solution to the domain wall problem. In this proposal, neutrino masses are generated through Type I seesaw mechanism while the mixing angles are described by the trimaximal mixing realized using the NMSSM singlet S and only two flavon fields. The phenomenology of neutrino parameters is studied for normal and inverted mass hierarchies. In particular, we numerically eval…
