Multidisciplinary learning at the University scientific museums: the Bunsen burner

We report on a laboratory activity carried out together with secondary school (high-school) students, with the aim of increasing their interest toward historical scientific instruments and stimulate their approach to scientific knowledge. To this purpose, we propose a hands-on activity that can be fruitfully performed at the University scientific museums. We organized a one-week summer stage at the Historical Collection of Physics Instruments and at the Museum of Chemistry of the University of Palermo. A group of selected students attended it, under the tutoring of university researchers. They…

Learning Each Others' Ropes: Negotiating interdisciplinary authenticity

A common feature of the recent calls for reform of the undergraduate biology curriculum has been for better coordination between biology and the courses from the allied disciplines of mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Physics has lagged math and chemistry in creating new biologically oriented curricula, though much activity is now taking place and significant progress is being made. In this article we consider a case study: a multi-year conversation between a physicist interested in adapting his physics course for biologists (Redish) and a biologist interested in including more physics in h…

傅里叶变换的教学之旅及其在核磁共振与红外光谱中的应用

A pedagogical tour of the Fourier transform with applications to NMR and IR spectroscopy

本文设计了三个基于 Python 和 Google Colab 的本科实验活动，通过音频、红外干涉图和核磁共振 FID 信号帮助学生理解并应用傅里叶变换，将时间域数据转换为频谱。
