We study the initial-boundary value problem for the Majda-Biello system posed on the right half line. We prove local well-posedness on the half line, matching the local theory on the real line established by Oh (2008). The approach combines the Laplace transform method of Bona-Sun-Zhang with adapted estimates from the work of Colliander and Kenig on the KdV half line initial-boundary value problem.

Smoothing and Global Attractors for the Majda-Biello System on the Torus

In this paper, we consider the Majda-Biello system, a coupled KdV-type system, on the torus. In the first part of the paper, it is shown that, given initial data in a Sobolev space, the difference between the linear and the nonlinear evolution almost always resides in a smoother space. The smoothing index depends on number-theoretic properties of the coupling parameter in the system which control the behavior of the resonant sets. The Majda-Biello system on the half-line

The Majda-Biello system models the interaction of Rossby waves. It consists of two coupled KdV equations one of which has a parameter $α$ as coefficient of its dispersion. This work studies this system on the half line with Robin, Neumann, and Dirichlet boundary data. It shows that for $0<α<1$ or $1<α<4$ all these problems are well-posed for initial data in Sobolev spaces $H^s$, $s\ge 0$. For $α=1$ or $α>4$ well-posedness holds for Dirichlet data if $s>-3/4$, while for Neumann and Robin data it depends on the sign of the parameters involved in the data. Global Well-posedness of a System of Nonlinearly Coupled KdV equations of Majda and Biello

This paper addresses the problem of global well-posedness of a coupled system of Korteweg-de Vries equations, derived by Majda and Biello in the context of nonlinear resonant interaction of Rossby waves, in a periodic setting in homogeneous Sobolev spaces $\dot H^s$, for $s\geq 0$.
