We prove sufficient conditions for the boundedness and compactness of Toeplitz operators $T_a$ in weighted sup-normed Banach spaces $H_v^\infty$ of holomorphic functions defined on the open unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ of the complex plane; both the weights $v$ and symbols $a$ are assumed to be radial functions on $\mathbb{D}$. In an earlier work by the authors it was shown that there exists a bounded, harmonic (thus non-radial) symbol $a$ such that $T_a$ is not bounded in any space $H_v^\infty$ with an admissible weight $v$. Here, we show that a mild additional assumption on the logarithmic decay rate of a radial symbol $a$ at the boundary of $\mathbb{D} $ guarantees the boundedness of $T_a$.
The sufficient conditions for the boundedness and compactness of $T_a$, in a number of variations, are derived from the general, abstract necessary and sufficient condition recently found by the authors. The results apply for a large class of weights satisfying the so called condition$(B)$, which includes in addition to standard weight classes also many rapidly decreasing weights.
A characterisation is given of bounded embeddings from weighted $L^2$ spaces on bounded intervals into $L^2$ spaces on the half-plane, induced by isomorphisms given by the Laplace transform onto weighted Hardy and Bergman spaces (Zen spaces). As an application necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the boundedness of truncated Hankel and Toeplitz integral operators, including the weighted case.
We study Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space, with Toeplitz symbols that are exponentials of inhomogeneous quadratic polynomials. It is shown that the boundedness of such operators is implied by the boundedness of the corresponding Weyl symbols.
We study Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space, with Toeplitz symbols given by exponentials of complex quadratic forms. We show that the boundedness of the corresponding Weyl symbols is necessary for the boundedness of the operators, thereby completing the proof of the Berger-Coburn conjecture in this case. We also show that the compactness of such Toeplitz operators is equivalent to the vanishing of their Weyl symbols at infinity.
In this paper, we investigate the boundedness of Toeplitz product $T_{f}T_{g}$ and Hankel product $H_{f}^{*} H_{g}$ on Fock-Sobolev space for two polynomials $f$ and $g$ in $z,\overline{z}\in\mathbb{C}^{n}$. As a result, the boundedness of Toeplitz operator $T_{f}$ and Hankel operator $H_{f}$ with the polynomial symbol $f$ in $z,\overline{z}\in\mathbb{C}^{n}$ is characterized.
We study the boundedness of Toeplitz operators with locally integrable symbols on Bergman spaces $A^p(Ω),$ $1<p<\infty,$ where $Ω\subset \mathbb{C}$ is a bounded simply connected domain with polygonal boundary. We give sufficient conditions for the boundedness of generalized Toeplitz operators in terms of "averages" of symbol over certain Cartesian squares. We use the Whitney decomposition of $Ω$ in the proof. We also give examples of bounded Toeplitz operators on $A^p(Ω)$ in the case where polygon $Ω$ has such a large corner that the Bergman projection is unbounded.
In this note known formulas for the product of Toeplitz operators are revisited in the context of their applications to the study of Fredholmness, boundedness of Toeplitz products, and the Berezin-Toeplitz quantization. A few open problems are also mentioned.
We study the boundedness of Toeplitz-type operators defined in the context of the Calderón reproducing formula considering the specific wavelets whose Fourier transforms are related to Laguerre polynomials. Some sufficient conditions for simultaneous boundedness of these Calderón-Toeplitz operators on each wavelet subspace for unbounded symbols are given, where investigating the behavior of certain sequence of iterated integrals of symbols is helpful. A number of examples and counterexamples is given.
Truncated Toeplitz operators are compressions of Toeplitz operators on model spaces; they have received much attention in the last years. This survey article presents several recent results, which relate boundedness, compactness, and spectra of these operators to properties of their symbols. We also connect these facts with properties of the natural embedding measures associated to these operators.
We establish a characterization of complex linear canonical transformations that are positive with respect to a pair of strictly plurisubharmonic quadratic weights. As an application, we show that the boundedness of a class of Toeplitz operators on the Bargmann space is implied by the boundedness of their Weyl symbols.
We study the boundedness of Toeplitz operators on Segal-Bargmann spaces in various contexts. Using Gutzmer's formula as the main tool we identify symbols for which the Toeplitz operators correspond to Fourier multipliers on the underlying groups. The spaces considered include Fock spaces, Hermite and twisted Bergman spaces and Segal-Bargmann spaces associated to Riemannian symmetric spaces of compact type.
We study the Carleson measures and the Toeplitz operators on the class of so-called small weighted Bergman spaces, introduced recently by Seip. A characterization of Carleson measures is obtained which extends Seip's results from the unit disc of $\mathbb C$ to the unit ball of $\mathbb C^n$. We use this characterization to give necessary and sufficient conditions for the boundedness and compactness of Toeplitz operators. Finally, we study the Schatten $p$ classes membership of Toeplitz operators for $1<p<\infty$.
We give a necessary and a sufficient condition for the boundedness of the Toeplitz product $T_FT_{G^*}$ on the vector valued Bergman space $L_a^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$, where $F$ and $G$ are matrix symbols with scalar valued Bergman space entries. The results generalize existing results in the scalar valued Bergman space case. We also characterize boundedness and invertibility of Toeplitz products $T_FT_{G^*}$ in terms of the Berezin transform, generalizing results found by Zheng and Stroethoff for the scalar valued Bergman space.
We study the boundedness and compactness of the generalized Volterra integral operator on weighted Bergman spaces with doubling weights on the unit disk. A generalized Toeplitz operator is defined and the boundedness, compactness and Schatten class of this operator are investigated on the Hilbert weighted Bergman space. As an application, Schatten class membership of generalized Volterra integral operators are also characterized. Finally, we also get the characterizations of Schatten class membership of generalized Toeplitz operator and generalized Volterra integral operators on the Hardy spac…
Compressions of Toeplitz operators to coinvariant subspaces of $H^2$ are called truncated Toeplitz operators. We study two questions related to these operators. The first, raised by Sarason, is whether boundedness of the operator implies the existence of a bounded symbol; the second is the reproducing kernel thesis. We show that in general the answer to the first question is negative, and we exhibit some classes of spaces for which the answers to both questions are positive.
In this article we characterize the boundedness and compactness of a Toeplitz-type operator on weighted Bergman spaces satisfying the so-called Bekolle-Bonami condition in terms of the Berezin transform.
We define and study Toeplitz operators in the space of Herglotz solutions of the Helmholtz equation in $R^d$. As the most traditional definition of Toeplitz operators via Bergman-type projection is not available here, we use an approach based upon the reproducing kernel nature of the Herglotz space and sesquilinear forms, which results in a meaningful theory. For two important patterns of sesquilinear forms we discuss a number of properties, including the uniqueness of determining the symbols from the operator, the finite rank property, the conditions for boundedness and compactness, spectral …
We study the boundedness of Toeplitz operators $T_ψ$ with locally integrable symbols on weighted harmonic Bergman spaces over the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^n$. Generalizing earlier results for analytic function spaces, we derive a general sufficient condition for the boundedness of $T_ψ$ in terms of suitable averages of its symbol. We also obtain a similar "vanishing" condition for compactness. Finally, we show how these results can be transferred to the setting of the standard weighted Bergman spaces of analytic functions.
We discuss the boundedness of Berezin-Toeplitz operators on a generalized Segal-Bargmann space (Fock space) over the complex $n$-space. This space is characterized by the image of a global Bargmann-type transform introduced by Sjöstrand. We also obtain the deformation estimates of the composition of Berezin-Toeplitz operators whose symbols and their derivatives up to order three are in the Wiener algebra of Sjöstrand. Our method of proofs is based on the pseudodifferential calculus and the heat flow determined by the phase function of the Bargmann transform.
We characterize operator-theoretic properties (boundedness, compactness, and Schatten class membership) of Toeplitz operators with positive measure symbols on Bergman spaces of holomorphic hermitian line bundles over Kähler Cartan-Hadamard manifolds in terms of geometric or operator-theoretic properties of measures.
Our purpose is to characterize the so-called horizontal Fock-Carleson type measures for derivatives of order $k$ (we write it $k$-hFC for short) for the Fock space as well as the Toeplitz operators generated by sesquilinear forms given by them. The boundedness conditions for such operators are found. We introduce real coderivatives of $k$-hFC type measures and show that the C*-algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with the corresponding class of symbols is commutative and isometrically isomorphic to certain $C^*$-subalgebra of $L_{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{n})$. The above results are extended to m…
The boundedness and compactness of Toeplitz operator from $A_ω^p$ to $A_ω^q$ with doubling weights $ω$ are studied in this paper. The characterizations of Schatten class Toeplitz operators and Volterra operators on $A_ω^2$ are also investigated.
In this paper, we characterize operator-theoretic properties (boundedness, compactness, and Schatten class membership) of Toeplitz operators with positive measure symbols on weighted Fock-Sobolev spaces of fractional order.
We give a simplified proof of the Berger-Coburn theorem on the boundedness of Toeplitz operators and extend this theorem to the setting of $p$-Fock spaces $(1\leq p \leq \infty)$. We present an overview of recent results by various authors on the compactness characterization via the Berezin transform for certain operators acting on the Fock space. Based on these results we present three new characterizations of the Toeplitz $C^*$ algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with bounded symbols.
We study positive Toeplitz operators on the Bergman spaces having the fast decreasing weight functions in a certain class. We give the characterizations for the boundedness and compactness of Toeplitz operators in terms of their Berezin transforms and averaging functions. In particular, we show the equivalent conditions in order that Toeplitz operators on $A^2(ω)$ belong to the Schatten class $S_p$, $0<p<\infty$.
Using the approach based on sesquilinear forms, we introduce Toeplitz operator in the analytic Bergman space on the upper half-plane with strongly singular symbols, derivatives of measures. Conditions for boundedness and compactness of such operators are found. A procedure of reduction of Toeplitz operators in Bergman spaces of polyanalytic functions to operators with singular symbols in the analytic Bergman space by means of the creation-annihilation structure is elaborated, which leads to the description of the properties of the former operators
In this paper, we give a universal description of the boundedness and compactness of Toeplitz operator $\mathcal{T}_μ^ω$ between Bergman spaces $A_η^p$ and $A_\upsilon^q$ when $μ$ is a positive Borel measure, $1<p,q<\infty$ and $ω,η,\upsilon$ are regular weights. By using Khinchin's inequality and Kahane's inequality, we get a new characterization of the Carleson measure for Bergman spaces induced by regular weights.
We introduce the concept of weak-localization for generalized frames and use this concept to define a class of weakly localized operators. This class contains many important operators, including: Short Time Fourier Transform multipliers, Calderon-Toeplitz operators, Toeplitz operators on various functions spaces, Anti-Wick operators, and many others. In this paper, we study the boundedness and compactness of weakly localized operators. In particular, we provide a characterization of compactness for weakly localized operators in terms of the behavior of their Berezin transform.
Inspired by our previous work on the boundedness of Toeplitz operators, we introduce weak BMO and VMO type conditions, denoted by BWMO and VWMO, respectively, for functions on the open unit disc of the complex plane. We show that the average function of a function $f$ in BWMO is boundedly oscillating, and the analogous result holds for $f$ in VWMO. The result is applied for generalizations of known results on the essential spectra and norms of Toeplitz operators. Finally, we provide examples of functions satisfying the VWMO condition which are not in the classical VMO or even in BMO.
For $-1<α<\infty$, let $ω_α(z)=(1+α)(1-|z|^2)^α$ be the standard weight on the unit disk. In this note, we provide descriptions of the boundedness and compactness for the Toeplitz operators $T_{μ,β}$ between distinct weighted Bergman spaces $L_{a}^{p}(ω_α)$ and $L_{a}^{q}(ω_β)$ when $0<p\leq1$, $q=1$, $-1<α,β<\infty$ and $0<p\leq 1<q<\infty, -1<β\leqα<\infty$, respectively. Our results can be viewed as extensions of Pau and Zhao's work in \cite{Pau}. Moreover, partial of main results are new even in the unweighted settings.
We study a Toeplitz type operator $Q_μ$ between the holomorphic Hardy spaces $H^p$ and $H^q$ of the unit ball. Here the generating symbol $μ$ is assumed to a positive Borel measure. This kind of operator is related to many classical mappings acting on Hardy spaces, such as composition operators, the Volterra type integration operators and Carleson embeddings. We completely characterize the boundedness and compactness of $Q_μ:H^p\to H^q$ for the full range $1<p,q<\infty$; and also describe the membership in the Schatten classes of $H^2$. In the last section of the paper, we demonstrate the usef…
Let $λ$ be a complex number in the closed unit disc $\overline{\Bbb D}$, and $\cal H$ be a separable Hilbert space with the orthonormal basis, say, ${\cal E}=\{e_n:n=0,1,2,\cdots\}$. A bounded operator $T$ on $\cal H$ is called a $λ$-Toeplitz operator if $$ \langle Te_{m+1},e_{n+1}\rangle=λ\langle Te_m,e_n\rangle $$ (where $\langle\cdot,\cdot\rangle$ is the inner product on $\cal H$). The subject arises naturally from a special case of the operator equation \[ S^*AS=λA+B,\ \mbox{where $S$ is a shift on $\cal H$}, \] which plays an essential role in finding bounded matrix $(a_{ij})$ on $l^2(\Bb…
We prove Nehari's theorem for integral Hankel and Toeplitz operators on simple convex polytopes in several variables. A special case of the theorem, generalizing the boundedness criterion of the Hankel and Toeplitz operators on the Paley-Wiener space, reads as follows. Let $Ξ= (0,1)^d$ be a $d$-dimensional cube, and for a distribution $f$ on $2Ξ$, consider the Hankel operator $$Γ_f (g)(x)=\int_Ξ f(x+y) g(y) \, dy, \quad x \inΞ.$$ Then $Γ_f$ extends to a bounded operator on $L^2(Ξ)$ if and only if there is a bounded function $b$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$ whose Fourier transform coincides with $f$ on $2…
In this paper we study the Bergman-Toeplitz operator $T_ψ$ induced by $ψ(w) = K_Ω^{-α}(w,w)d_Ω^β(w)$ with $α, β\geq 0$ acting from a weighted $L^p$-space $L_a^p(Ω)$ to another one $L_a^q(Ω)$ on a large class of pseudoconvex domains of finite type. In the case $1 < p \leq q < \infty$, the following results are established: \\ - Necessary and sufficient conditions for boundedness, which generalize the recent results obtained by Khanh, Liu and Thuc.\\ - Upper and lower estimates for essential norm, in particular, a criterion for compactness.\\ - A characterization of Schatten class membership of …
In this paper, we study the linear mapping which sends the sequence $x=(x_n)_{n \in \mathbb{N}}$ to $y=(y_n)_{n \in \mathbb{N}}$ where $y_n = \sum_{k=1}^\infty f(n/k)x_k$ for $f: \mathbb{Q}^+ \to \mathbb{C}$. This operator is the multiplicative analogue of the classical Toeplitz operator, and as such we denote the mapping by $\mathscr{M}_f$. We show that for $1 \leq p \leq q \leq \infty$, if $f \in \ell^r(\mathbb{Q}^+)$, then $\mathscr{M}_f:\ell^p \to \ell^q$ is bounded where $\frac{1}{r} = 1 - \frac{1}{p} + \frac{1}{q} $. Moreover, for the cases when $p=1$ with any $q$, $p=q$, and $q=\infty$ …
Two variants of generalizations of Hankel operators to the case of linearly ordered abelian groups are considered, criteria of the boundedness and compactness of these operators are given, among them in terms of functions of bounded mean oscillation, the nonfredholmness of generalized Hankel operators is proved. Some applications to the theory of Toeplitz operators on groups are given.
An asymptotic formula is found for a Toeplitz determinant with the symbol supported on an arc of the unit circle in the case when the symbol has Fisher-Hartwig singularities.
An estimate for the norm of selfadjoint Toeplitz operators with a radial, bounded and integrable symbol is obtained. This emphasizes the fact that the norm of such operator is strictly less than the supremum norm of the symbol. Consequences for time-frequency localization operators are also given.
In sprite by Berger-Coburn theorems and their conjecture in \cite{Coburn1994}, we use the Fourier transform to decompose $ T_{g}$ as an infinite sum of Toeplitz operators with symbols which have compact support in the frequency domain. As a consequence, we obtain a sufficient condition for $ T_{g}$ to be bounded in terms of the Carleson measure conditions defined by the heat transform of the symbol $g$. Moreover the decomposition of a Toeplitz operator leads us to get easily understanding that for a bounded function $g$, if its Berezin transform vanishes at infinity, then the Toeplitz operator…
The condition numbers $CN(T)==||T|| .||T^{-1}|| $ of Toeplitz and analytic $n\times n$ matrices $T$ are studied. It is shown that the supremum of $CN(T)$ over all such matrices with $||T|| \leq1$ and the given minimum of eigenvalues $r=min_{i=1..n}|λ_{i}|>0$ behaves as the corresponding supremum over all $n\times n$ matrices (i.e., as $\frac{1}{r{}^{n}}$ (Kronecker)), and this equivalence is uniform in $n$ and $r$. The proof is based on a use of the Sarason-Sz.Nagy-Foias commutant lifting theorem.
