The present work is devoted to the problem of boundary stabilization of the semilinear 1-D heat equation with nonlocal boundary conditions. The stabilizing controller is finite-dimensional, linear, given in an explicit form, involving only the eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator with nonlocal boundary conditions.
In this article, we are discussing a more vital concept of controllability, termed total controllability. We have considered a nonlocal semilinear functional evolution equations with non-instantaneous impulses and finite delay in Hilbert spaces. A set of sufficient conditions of total controllability is obtained for the evolution system under consideration, by imposing the theory of C_0-semigroup and Banach fixed point theorem. We also established the total controllability results for a functional integro-differential equation. Finally, an example is given to demonstrate the feasibility of der…
We study the existence and approximate controllability of a class of fractional nonlocal delay semilinear differential systems in a Hilbert space. The results are obtained by using semigroup theory, fractional calculus, and Schauder's fixed point theorem. Multi-delay controls and a fractional nonlocal condition are introduced. Furthermore, we present an appropriate set of sufficient conditions for the considered fractional nonlocal multi-delay control system to be approximately controllable. An example to illustrate the abstract results is given.
We study global finite-dimensional observer-based stabilization of a semilinear 1D heat equation with globally Lipschitz semilinearity in the state variable. We consider Neumann actuation and point measurement. Using dynamic extension and modal decomposition we derive nonlinear ODEs for the modes of the state. We propose a controller that is based on a nonlinear finite-dimensional Luenberger observer. Our Lypunov $H^1$-stability analysis leads to LMIs, which are shown to be feasible for a large enough observer dimension and small enough Lipschitz constant. Next, we consider the case of a const…
This paper deals with the problem of internal null-controllability of a heat equation posed on a bounded domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions and perturbed by a semilinear nonlocal term. We prove the small-time local null-controllability of the equation. The proof relies on two main arguments. First, we establish the small-time local null-controllability of a $2 \times 2$ reaction-diffusion system, where the second equation is governed by the parabolic operator $τ\partial_t - σΔ$, $τ, σ> 0$. More precisely, this controllability result is obtained uniformly with respect to the parameters $…
We study a control problem governed by a semilinear parabolic equation. The control is a measure that acts as the kernel of a possibly nonlocal time delay term and the functional includes a non-differentiable term with the measure-norm of the control. Existence, uniqueness and regularity of the solution of the state equation, as well as differentiability properties of the control-to-state operator are obtained. Next, we provide first order optimality conditions for local solutions. Finally, the control space is suitably discretized and we prove convergence of the solutions of the discrete prob…
This paper addresses the topic of global output feedback stabilization of semilinear reaction-diffusion PDEs. The semilinearity is assumed to be confined into a sector condition. We consider two different types of actuation configurations, namely: bounded control operator and right Robin boundary control. The measurement is selected as a left Dirichlet trace. The control strategy is finite dimensional and is designed based on a linear version of the plant. We derive a set of sufficient conditions ensuring the global exponential stabilization of the semilinear reaction-diffusion PDE. These cond…
It is shown that an explicit oblique projection nonlinear feedback controller is able to stabilize semilinear parabolic equations, with time-dependent dynamics and with a polynomial nonlinearity. The actuators are typically modeled by a finite number of indicator functions of small subdomains. No constraint is imposed on the sign of the polynomial nonlinearity. The norm of the initial condition can be arbitrarily large, and the total volume covered by the actuators can be arbitrarily small. The number of actuators depend on the operator norm of the oblique projection, on the polynomial degree …
Using a nonlocal macroscopic LWR-type traffic flow model, we present an approach to control the nonlocal velocity towards a given equilibrium velocity. Therefore, we present a Lyapunov function measuring the $L^2$ distance between these velocities. We compute the explicit rate at which the system tends towards the stationary speed. The traffic is controlled by a leading vehicle. Numerical examples demonstrate the theoretical results and possible extensions of them.
We consider the semilinear parabolic equation of normal type connected with the 3D Helmholtz equation with periodic boundary condition. The problem of stabilization to zero of the solution for normal parabolic equation with arbitrary initial condition by starting control is studied. This problem is reduced to establishing three inequalities connected with starting control, one of which has been proved previously. The proof for the other two is given here.
We consider the problem of stabilization to zero of semilinear normal parabolic equations connected with the 3D Helmholtz system with periodic boundary conditions and arbitrary initial datum. This problem was previously studied in \cite{FSh16}. As it was recently revealed, the control function suggested in that work contains a term impeding transference the stabilization construction on the 3D Helmholtz system. The main concern of this article is to prove that this term is not necessary for the stabilization result, and therefore the control function can be changed by a proper way.
The feedback exponential stabilization to trajectories for semilinear parabolic equations in a given bounded domain is addressed. The controls take values in a finite-dimensional space and are supported in a small region. Both internal and boundary controls are considered.
Using a nonlocal second-order traffic flow model we present an approach to control the dynamics towards a steady state. The system is controlled by the leading vehicle driving at a prescribed velocity and also determines the steady state. Thereby, we consider both, the microscopic and macroscopic scales. We show that the fixed point of the microscopic traffic flow model is asymptotically stable for any kernel function. Then, we present Lyapunov functions for both, the microscopic and macroscopic scale, and compute the explicit rates at which the vehicles influenced by the nonlocal term tend to…
In this paper, we study the output feedback stabilization for a scalar conservation law with a nonlocal velocity, that models a highly re-entrant manufacturing system as encountered in semi-conductor production. By spectral analysis, we obtain a complete result on the exponential stabilization for the linearized control system. Moreover, by using a Lyapunov function approach, we also prove the exponential stabilization results for the nonlinear control system in certain cases.
The aim of this work is to design an explicit finite dimensional boundary feedback controller of sampled-data form for locally exponentially stabilizing the equilibrium solutions to semilinear parabolic equations. The feedback controller is expressed in terms of the eigenfunctions corresponding to unstable eigenvalues of the linearized equation. This stabilizing procedure is applicable for any sampling rate, not necessary to be small enough, and it tends to the continuous-times version when the sampling period tends to zero.
We present a framework of sequential action control (SAC) for stabilization of systems of partial differential equations which can be posed as abstract semilinear control problems in Hilbert spaces. We follow a late-lumping approach and show that the control action can be explicitly obtained from variational principles using adjoint information. Moreover, we analyze the closed-loop system obtained from the SAC feedback for the linear problem with quadratic stage costs. We apply this theory to a prototypical example of an unstable heat equation and provide numerical results as the verification …
These notes are issued from a short course given by the author in a summer school in Chamb{é}ry in June 2015. We consider general semilinear PDE's and we address the following two questions: 1) How to design an efficient feedback control locally stabilizing the equation asymptotically to 0? 2) How to construct such a stabilizing feedback from approximation schemes? To address these issues, we distinguish between parabolic and hyperbolic semilinear PDE's. By parabolic, we mean that the linear operator underlying the system generates an analytic semi-group. By hyperbolic, we mean that this opera…
The problem of stabilization of unstable periodic orbits of discrete nonlinear systems is considered in the article. A new generalization of the delayed feedback, which solves the stabilization problem, is proposed. The feedback is represented as a convex combination of nonlinear feedback and semilinear feedback introduced by O. Morgul. In this article, the O. Morgul method was transferred from the scalar case to the vector one. It is shown that the additional introduction of the semilinear feedback into the equation makes it possible to significantly reduce the length of the prehistory used i…
An optimized variant of the State Dependent Riccati Equations (SDREs) approach for nonlinear optimal feedback stabilization is presented. The proposed method is based on the construction of equivalent semilinear representations associated to the dynamics and their affine combination. The optimal combination is chosen to minimize the discrepancy between the SDRE control and the optimal feedback law stemming from the solution of the corresponding Hamilton Jacobi Bellman (HJB) equation. Numerical experiments assess effectiveness of the method in terms of stability of the closed-loop with near-to-…
In this paper we study the global exponential stability in the $L^{2}$ norm of semilinear $1$-$d$ hyperbolic systems on a bounded domain, when the source term and the nonlinear boundary conditions are Lipschitz. We exhibit two sufficient stability conditions: an internal condition and a boundary condition. This result holds also when the source term is nonlocal. Finally, we show its robustness by extending it to global Input-to State Stability in the $L^{2}$ norm with respect to both interior and boundary disturbances.
We study the question of the existence of infinitely many weak solutions for nonlocal equations of fractional Laplacian type with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary data, in presence of a superlinear term. Starting from the well-known Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition, we consider different growth assumptions on the nonlinearity, all of superlinear type. We obtain three different existence results in this setting by using the Fountain Theorem, which extend some classical results for semilinear Laplacian equations to the nonlocal fractional setting.
This paper is concerned with the decay estimate of solutions to the semilinear wave equation subject to two localized dampings in a bounded domain. The first one is of the nonlinear Kelvin-Voigt type and is distributed around a neighborhood of the boundary according to the Geometric Control Condition. While the second one is a frictional damping and we consider it hurting the geometric condition of control. We show uniform decay rate results of the corresponding energy for all initial data taken in bounded sets of finite energy phase-space. The proof is based on obtaining an observability ineq…
In this work we address the problem of boundary feedback stabilization for a geometrically exact shearable beam, allowing for large deflections and rotations and small strains. The corresponding mathematical model may be written in terms of displacements and rotations (GEB), or intrinsic variables (IGEB). A nonlinear transformation relates both models, allowing to take advantage of the fact that the latter model is a one-dimensional first-order semilinear hyperbolic system, and deduce stability properties for both models. By applying boundary feedback controls at one end of the beam, while the…
