Background: Modern ab initio theory combined with high-quality nucleon-nucleon (NN) and three-nucleon (3N) interactions from chiral effective field theory (EFT) can provide a predictive description of low-energy light-nuclei reactions relevant for astrophysics and fusion-energy applications. However, the high cost of computations has so far impeded a complete analysis of the uncertainty budget of such calculations. Purpose: Starting from NN potentials up to fifth order (N4LO) combined with leading-order 3N forces, we study how the order-by-order convergence of the chiral expansion and confidence intervals for the 3N contact and contact-plus-one-pion-exchange low-energy constants (cE and cD) contribute to the overall uncertainty budget of many-body calculations of neutron-He elastic scattering. Methods: We compute structure and reaction observables for three-, four- and five-nucleon systems within the ab initio frameworks of the no-core shell model an no-core shell model with continuum. Using a small set of design runs, we construct a Gaussian process model (GPM) that acts as a statistical emulator for the theory. With this, we gain insight into how uncertainties in the 3N low-energy constants propagate throughout the calculation and determine the Bayesian posterior distribution of these parameters with Markov-Chain Monte-Carlo.
We show that using parameters consistent with the charge symmetry violating difference between the strong nn and pp scattering lengths provides significant constraints on the amplitude for the dd -> alpha pi0 reaction.
Using the new set of dd --> eta alpha near threshold experimental data, the estimate of the importance of the nucleon-nucleon correlations for the eta alpha S-wave scattering length in the multiple scattering theory is obtained using the low-energy scattering length model. The contribution turns out to be much bigger then previously believed. The pi-eta mixing angle is extracted using the experimental data on the dd --> eta alpha and dd --> pi alpha processes. The model is dominated by the subthreshold extrapolation recipe for the eta alpha scattering amplitudes. When the recipe is chosen the …
In this project, we have investigated the 5-nucleon model system in the picture of the specific alpha-state structure, by extending the Yakubovsky scheme with the inclusion of the spin and isospin degrees of freedom. The Yakubovsky formalism for the 5-nucleon system in the effective alpha-neutron attractive model leads to a set of two coupled equations, based on two relevant alpha-nucleon sub-cluster components. To this regard, by switching off the fifth nucleon interactions, the 5-nucleon Yakubovsky equations can be reduced to a typical 4-nucleon problem. To calculate the 5- and 4-nucleon bou…
The properties of warm dilute alpha-nucleon matter are studied in a variational approach in the Thomas-Fermi approximation starting from an effective two-body nucleon-nucleon interaction. The equation of state, symmetry energy, incompressibility of the said matter as well as the alpha fraction are in consonance with those evaluated from the virial approach that sets a bench-mark for such calculations at low densities.
The equation of state and phase diagram of isospin-symmetric chemically equilibrated mixture of alpha particles and nucleons are studied in the mean-field approximation. The model takes into account the effects of Fermi and Bose statistics for nucleons and alphas, respectively. We use Skyrme-like parametrization of the mean-field potentials as functions of partial densities, which contain both attractive and repulsive terms. Parameters of these potentials are chosen by fitting known properties of pure nucleon- and pure alpha matter at zero temperature. The sensitivity of results to the choice …
An extended pairing plus QQ force model, which has been shown to successfully explain the nuclear binding energy and related quantities such as the symmetry energy, is applied to study the alpha-like four-nucleon correlations in 1f_{7/2} shell nuclei. The double difference of binding energies, which displays a characteristic behavior at $N \approx Z$, is interpreted in terms of the alpha-like correlations. Important roles of proton-neutron interactions forming the alpha-like correlated structure are discussed.
We study the competition between alpha-type and conventional pair condensation in the ground state of nuclei with neutrons and protons interacting via a charge-independent pairing interaction. The ground state is described by a product of two condensates, one of alpha-like quartets and the other one of pairs in excess relative to the isotope with N=Z. It is shown that this ansatz for the ground state gives very accurate pairing correlation energies for nuclei with the valence nucleons above the closed cores 16O, 40Ca and 100Sn. These results indicate that alpha-type correlations are important …
We report variational Monte Carlo calculations of single-nucleon momentum distributions for A <= 12 nuclei and nucleon-pair and nucleon-cluster momentum distributions for A <= 8. The wave functions have been generated for a Hamiltonian containing the Argonne v18 two-nucleon and Urbana X three-nucleon potentials. The single-nucleon and nucleon-pair momentum distributions exhibit universal features attributable to the one-pion-exchange tensor interaction. The single-nucleon distributions are broken down into proton and neutron components and spin-up and spin-down components where appropriate. Th…
The phase diagram of isospin-symmetric chemically equilibrated mixture of alpha particles and nucleons is studied in the mean-field approximation. Skyrme-like parametrization is used for the mean-field potentials as functions of partial densities of nucleons and alphas. We find that there is a threshold value a* of the parameter a(N-alpha) which describes the attractive interaction between alpha-particles and nucleons. At a(N-alpha)<a* the ground state of nuclear matter at zero temperature behaves as a pure system of interacting nucleons, whereas at a(N-alpha)>a* the nuclear ground state inclu…
In this paper, we have solved a simple specific model of the five-body problem in the framework of the Yakubovsky equations, restricted to the configurations of the alpha-nucleon types only, to investigate the effective interaction between an inert alpha-particle and a neutron. In general case, the Yakubovsky scheme for the solution of the five-body system leads to a set of four coupled equations related to four independent configurations, which can be restricted to two coupled ones, to describe the effective alpha-nucleon structure model, namely an inert four-body alpha-core and a nucleon. He…
We present new calculations of the $α$-particle which are based on the most modern nucleon-nucleon interactions alone and combined with the Tucson-Melbourne or the Urbana IX three-nucleon interaction. Results for the binding energies and some properties of the wavefunction are given. On that phenomenological level little room is left for the action of a possible four-nucleon force.
The transverse densities in a fast-moving nucleon offer a model-independent framework for analyzing the spatial structure of the pion cloud and its role in current matrix elements. We calculate the chiral large-distance component of the charge density using a dispersion representation of the form factor and discuss its partonic interpretation. The non-chiral core is dominant up to surprisingly large distances ~2 fm. The chiral component can be probed in precision low-Q^2 elastic eN scattering or in peripheral deep-inelastic processes which resolve its quark/gluon content.
We report the first calculations of cross sections for the radiative capture reactions t(alpha,gamma)^7Li and ^3He(alpha,gamma)^7Be below 2 MeV which use wave functions derived from realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions by the variational Monte Carlo technique. After examining several small corrections to the dominant E1 operator, we find energy dependences for the low-energy S-factors which agree reasonably with experimental measurements. There is no contradiction with the previous theoretical understanding of these processes, but the zero-energy derivative of the t(alpha,gamma)^7Li S-factor…
We focus upon the raison d'etre of the alpha-chain states on the basis of the fully microscopic framework, where the Pauli principle among all the nucleons is fully taken into account. Our purpose is to find out the limiting number of alpha clusters, on which the linear alpha-cluster state can stably exist. How many alpha-clusters can stably make an alpha-chain state? We examine the properties of equally separated alpha clusters on a straight line and compare its stability with that on a circle. We also confirm its stability in terms of break-up and binary disintegrations including alpha-decay…
The present paper is written in response to the comment of M. R. Hadizadeh et. al on our original paper "Solution of the Specific Model of Five-body Problem to Investigate the Effective Alpha-Nucleon Interaction in a Partial-Wave analysis" [Acta Physica Polonica B, 48, 1279 (2017)]. In this paper we present our clarifications and statements on the authors of the comment arguments about of the accuracy of the procedure in solution of simple five- and four-body problems. In this regard our arguments turn out to be very efficient mainly discussed from the authors misunderstanding of the issues di…
The neutron and proton scattering with either deuteron or stable alpha particle can be modeled as a two particle system. In this paper, using Morse function as reference potential, inverse potentials have been computationally constructed directly from scattering phase shifts (SPS) data for light nucleon-nucleus systems. The phase equation for various l-channels has been numerically solved using 5th order Runge-Kutta (RK-5) method in each iteration within the optimization procedure to obtain best model parameters of Morse function that minimize mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The inverse…
We suggest that the emergence of a large deformation in the magnesium, Mg, nuclides, especially at the Z = 12, N = 12, should be associated with an octahedral deformed shape. Within the framework of molecular geometrical symmetry, we find a possibility that the Z = 12, N = 12 system would form an octahedral structure consisting of six points of alpha(4He) particles, yielding the ground collectivity. With this point of view, we draw the following serial molecular structures; the Z = 10, N = 10, 20Ne, corresponds to a hexahedral, the Z = 8, N = 8, 16O, does to a tetrahedral, and the Z = 6, N = 6…
An approximate method to quantify the magnitude of the two-nucleon (2N) and three-nucleon (3N) short-range correlations (SRC) and their mass dependence is proposed. The proposed method relies on the concept of the "universality" or "local nuclear character" of the SRC. We quantify the SRC by computing the number of independent-particle model (IPM) nucleon pairs and triples which reveal beyond-mean-field behavior. It is argued that those can be identified by counting the number of nucleon pairs and triples in a zero relative orbital momentum state. A method to determine the quantum numbers of p…
We describe a new method to treat low-energy scattering problems in few-nucleon systems, and we apply it to the five-body case of neutron-alpha scattering. The method allows precise calculations of low-lying resonances and their widths. We find that a good three-nucleon interaction is crucial to obtain an accurate description of neutron-alpha scattering.
In this study, the effects of repulsive nucleon-nucleon interactions arising from the Pauli exclusion principle were examined regarding the half-lives of heavy even-even nuclei with $84\leq Z\leq92$. The Pauli exclusion principle is applied to our investigations by renormalizing the nucleon-nucleon interactions according to the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization condition. It is also applied to the double-folding ($DF$) formalism as a modification term by investigating the kinetic energy variation at the overlapping regions between the densities of the alpha and daughter nuclei. The standard deviati…
In order to study the bound-state structure of the Helium halo nuclei, the 8-nucleon Yakubovsky formalism has been implemented for 8He in a 5-body sub-cluster model, i.e. alpha+n+n+n+n. In this case, the 8-nucleon Yakubovsky equations has been obtained in the form of two coupled equations, based on the two independent components. In addition, by removing the contribution interactions of the 8 and 7s bound nucleons in the formalism, the obtained equations explicitly reduce to the 6-nucleon Yakubovsky equations for 6He, in the case of effective 3-body model, i.e. alpha+n+n. In view of the expect…
The problem of calculating the four--nucleon bound state properties for the case of realistic two- and three-body nuclear potentials is studied using the hyperspherical harmonic (HH) approach. A careful analysis of the convergence of different classes of HH functions has been performed. A restricted basis is chosen to allow for accurate estimates of the binding energy and other properties of the 4He ground state. Results for various modern two-nucleon and two- plus three-nucleon interactions are presented. The 4He asymptotic normalization constants for separation in 2+2 and 1+3 clusters are al…
We treat ${}^6$Li as an effective three-body ($n$-$p$-$α$) system and compute the $d$-$α$ $S-$wave scattering length and three-body separation energy of ${}^6$Li for a wide variety of nucleon-nucleon and $α$-nucleon potentials which have the same (or nearly the same) phase shifts. The Coulomb interaction in the $p$-$α$ subsystem is omitted. The results of all calculations lie on a one-parameter curve in the plane defined by the $d$-$α$ $S-$wave scattering length and the amount by which ${}^6$Li is bound with respect to the $n$-$p$-$α$ threshold. We argue that these aspects of the $n$-$p$-$α$ s…
The 4He total photoabsorption cross section is calculated with the realistic nucleon-nucleon potential Argonne V18 and the three-nucleon force (3NF) Urbana IX. Final state interaction is included rigorously via the Lorentz Integral Transform method. A rather pronounced giant resonance with peak cross sections of 3 (3.2) mb is obtained with (without) 3NF. Above 50 MeV strong 3NF effects, up to 35%, are present. Good agreement with experiment is found close to threshold. A comparison in the giant resonance region is inconclusive, since present data do not show a unique picture.
We carry out Faddeev calculations of three-alpha (3 alpha) and two-alpha plus Lambda (alpha alpha Lambda) systems, using two-cluster resonating-group method kernels. The input includes an effective two-nucleon force for the alpha alpha resonating-group method and a new effective Lambda N force for the Lambda alpha interaction. The latter force is a simple two-range Gaussian potential for each spin-singlet and triplet state, generated from the phase-shift behavior of the quark-model hyperon-nucleon interaction, fss2, by using an inversion method based on supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Owing …
The de-excitation of alpha-conjugate nuclei produced in reactions of 35 MeV/nucleon 40Ca with 40Ca has been investigated. Particular emphasis is placed on examining the dynamics of collisions leading to projectile-like fragment exit channels. A general exploration of the reaction systematics reveals the binary dissipative character of the collisions and a hierarchy effect similar to that seen for heavier systems. Investigation of the subset of events characterized by a total alpha-conjugate mass (alpha particles plus alpha-conjugate fragments) equal to 40 and atomic number equal to 20 reveals …
The value of the alpha spectroscopic factor (S_alpha) of the 6.356 MeV 1/2+ state of 17O is believed to have significant astrophysical implications due to the importance of the 13C(alpha,n)16O reaction as a possible source of neutron production for the s process. To further study this effect, an accurate measurement of the 13C(6Li,d)17O reaction at E_lab = 60 MeV has been performed recently by Kubono et al., who found a new value for the spectroscopic factor of the 6.356 MeV 1/2+ state of 17O based on a distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) analysis of these data. This new value, S_alpha ap…
We consider the correlation between the binding energies of the triton and the alpha-particle which is empirically observed in calculations employing different phenomenological nucleon-nucleon interactions. Using an effective quantum mechanics approach for short-range interactions with large scattering length |a| >> l, where l is the natural low-energy length scale, we construct the effective interaction potential at leading order in l/|a|. In order to renormalize the four-nucleon system, it is sufficient to include a SU(4)-symmetric one-parameter three-nucleon interaction in addition to the S…
What is the origin of nuclear clustering and how does it emerge from the nuclear interaction? While there is ample experimental evidence for this phenomenon, its theoretical characterization directly from nucleons as degrees of freedom remains a challenge, making it difficult to improve nuclear forces using clustering observables. In this work, a simple ratio of energies based on effective scale arguments is proposed to assess the quality of nuclear forces on alpha clustering (${ {}^{4}\text{He} }$) in bound and narrow ground-state nuclei. The proposed clustering ratio is parameter-free and co…
The Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations for the alpha-particle are solved. Accurate results are obtained for several modern NN interaction models, which include charge-symmetry breaking effects in the NN force, nucleon mass dependences as well as the Coulomb interaction. These models are augmented by three-nucleon forces of different types and adjusted to the 3N binding energy. Our results are close to the experimental binding energy with a slight overbinding. Thus there is only little room left for the contribution of possible 4N interactions to the alpha-particle binding energy. We also discuss mod…
An abrupt change in $α$ decay systematics around the N=126 neutron shell closure is discussed. It is explained as a sudden hindrance of the clustering of the nucleons that eventually form the $α$ particle. This is because the clustering induced by the pairing mode acting upon the four nucleons is inhibited if the configuration space does not allow a proper manifestation of the pairing collectivity.
The universal curve is one of the simple ways to get preliminary information about the Alpha-decay half-life times of heavy nuclei. We try to find parameterization for the universal curve of Alpha decay based on semi-microscopic calculations, starting from the realistic M3Y-Reid nucleon-nucleon interaction. Within the deformed density-dependent cluster model, the penetration probability and the assault frequency are calculated using the WKB penetration probability. The deformations of daughter nuclei and the ground-state spin and parity of the involved nuclei are considered. We found that it i…
Interactions between the octet-baryons (B8) in the spin-flavor SU6 quark model are investigated in a unified coupled-channels framework of the resonating-group method (RGM). The interaction Hamiltonian for quarks consists of the phenomenological confinement potential, the color Fermi-Breit interaction with explicit flavor-symmetry breaking (FSB), and effective-meson exchange potentials of scalar-, pseudoscalar- and vector-meson types. The model parameters are determined to reproduce the properties of the nucleon-nucleon (NN) system and the low-energy cross section data for the hyperon-nucleon …
The nuclear $α$ decay of heavy nuclei is investigated based on the nuclear energy density functional, which leads to the $α$ potential inside the parent nucleus in terms of the proton and neutron density profiles of the daughter nucleus. We use the Skyrme force model, Gogny force model, and relativistic mean field model to get the nucleon density profiles inside heavy nuclei. Once the nucleon density profiles are determined, the parameters of the nuclear $α$ potential are fitted to the observed $α$ decay half-lives of heavy nuclei. This approach is then applied to predict unknown $α$ decay hal…
The $\alp-\alp$ interaction potential is obtained within the double folding model with density-dependent Gogny effective interactions as input. The one nucleon knock-on exchange kernel including recoil effects is localized using the Perey-Saxon prescription at zero energy. The Pauli forbidden states are removed thanks to successive supersymmetric transformations. Low energy experimental phase shifts, calculated from the variable phase approach, as well as the energy and width of the first $0^+$ resonance in $^8$Be are reproduced with high accuracy.
We calculate n alpha phase-shifts and scattering observables in the resonating-group method, using the nuclear-matter G-matrix of an SU_6 quark-model NN interaction. The G-matrix is generated in the recent energy-independent procedure of the quark-model NN interaction with the continuous prescription for intermediate spectra, by assuming an appropriate Fermi momentum k_F=1.2 fm^-1. The n alpha RGM interaction kernels are evaluated with explicit treatments of the nonlocality and momentum dependence of partial-wave G-matrix components. The momentum dependence of the G-matrix components is differ…
The discrete energy-eigenvalues of two nucleons interacting with a finite-range nuclear force and confined to a harmonic potential are used to numerically reconstruct the free-space scattering phase shifts. The extracted phase shifts are compared to those obtained from the exact continuum scattering solution and agree within the uncertainties of the calculations. Our results suggest that it might be possible to determine the amplitudes for the scattering of complex systems, such as n-d, n-t or n-alpha, from the energy-eigenvalues confined to finite volumes using ab-initio bound-state technique…
We solve the Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations for 3N and 4N bound states based on the most modern realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. We include different realistic 3N forces. It is shown that all 3N force models can remove the underbinding of the triton and alpha-particle which one obtains with existing NN interactions. The agreement of theoretical predictions and the experimental binding energy is quite good and there is little room left for the action of four-nucleon forces in the alpha-particle. The effect of 3N forces on the wave function is investigated.
Through the triple-alpha process practically all of the carbon in our universe is synthesized as the ash of helium burning in red giants. The triple-alpha process proceeds trough the ground state of 8Be and though the 02+-state in 12C. We investigate the dependence of 02+-state and the production of carbon as a function of the strength of the underlying nucleon-nucleon interaction. This is performed by using the complex scaling method in a microscopic cluster model.
The nuclear equation of state is explored with the constrained HFB approach for self conjugate nuclei. It is found that beyond a certain low, more or less universal density, those nuclei spontaneously cluster into A/4 alpha particles with A the nucleon number. The energy at the threshold density increases linearly with the number of alpha particles as does the experimental threshold energy. Taking off the spurious c.o.m. energy of each alpha particle almost gives agreement between theory and experiment. The implications of these results with respect to alpha clustering and the nuclear EOS at l…
The recently proposed large momentum effective theory (LaMET) of Ji has led to a burst of activity among lattice practitioners to perform and control the first pioneering calculations of the quasi-PDFs of the nucleon. These calculations represent approximations to the standard PDFs defined as correlation functions of fields with lightlike separation, being instead correlations along a longitudinal direction of the operator $γ^z$; as such, they differ from standard PDFs by power-suppressed $1 \big/ p^2_z$ corrections, becoming exact in the limit $p_z \to \infty$. Investigating the systematics o…
We study the parity-violating alpha+d decay of the lowest 0+ state of Li-6 in a microscopic three-cluster model. The initial bound and the final scattering states are described consistently within the same model. The parity-violating decay width is calculated in perturbation theory using the parity-nonconserving nucleon-nucleon interaction of Desplanques, Donoghue, and Holstein (DDH). We find that the decay width is sensitive to dynamical degrees of freedom which are beyond the alpha+p+n model, for example, alpha excitation and breakup. In our full model, which contains breathing excitations o…
The radiative capture cross sections for the 3He(alpha,gamma)7Be and 3H(alpha,gamma)7Li reactions are calculated in the fully microscopic fermionic molecular dynamics approach using a realistic effective interaction that reproduces the nucleon-nucleon scattering data. At large distances bound and scattering states are described by antisymmetrized products of 4He and 3He/3H ground states. At short distances the many-body Hilbert space is extended with additional many-body wave functions needed to represent polarized clusters and shell-model-like configurations. Properties of the bound states ar…
We perform statistically rigorous uncertainty quantification (UQ) for chiral effective field theory ($χ$EFT) applied to infinite nuclear matter up to twice nuclear saturation density. The equation of state (EOS) is based on high-order many-body perturbation theory calculations with nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon interactions up to fourth order in the $χ$EFT expansion. From these calculations our newly developed Bayesian machine-learning approach extracts the size and smoothness properties of the correlated EFT truncation error. We then propose a novel extension that uses multitask machine l…
A microscopic calculation of $α$-cluster preformation probability and $α$ decay width in the typical $α$ emitter $^{212}$Po is presented. Results are obtained by improving a recent approach to describe $α$ preformation in $^{212}$Po [Phys. Rev. C 90, 034304 (2014)] implementing four-nucleon correlations (quartetting). Using the actually measured density distribution of the $^{208}$ Pb core, the calculated alpha decay width of $^{212}$Po agrees fairly well with the measured one.
A two-cluster microscopic model is applied to study elastic alpha-alpha scattering and resonance structure of $^{8}$Be. The model is an algebraic version of the Resonating Group Method, which makes use complete set of oscillator functions to expand wave function of two-cluster system. Interaction between clusters is determined by well-known semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials of Hasegawa-Nagata, Minnesota and Volkov. Detail analysis of resonance wave functions is carried out in oscillator, coordinate and momentum spaces. Effects of the Pauli principle on wave functions of the $^{8}$Be co…
We search for three-neutron resonances which were predicted from pion double charge exchange experiments on He-3. All partial waves up to J=5/2 are nonresonant except the J=3/2^+ one, where we find a state at E=14 MeV energy with 13 MeV width. The parameters of the mirror state in the three-proton system are E=15 MeV and Gamma=14 MeV. The possible existence of an excited state in the triton, which was predicted from a H(He-6,alpha) experiment, is also discussed.
We present the virial equation of state of low-density nuclear matter composed of neutrons, protons and alpha particles. The virial equation of state is model-independent, and therefore sets a benchmark for all nuclear equations of state at low densities. We calculate the second virial coefficients for nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-alpha and alpha-alpha interactions directly from the relevant binding energies and scattering phase shifts. The virial approach systematically takes into account contributions from bound nuclei and the resonant continuum, and consequently provides a framework to include …
In this paper an attempt was to measure, the excitation functions of $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, 4n)$^{177}$Re, $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, 5n)$^{176}$Re, $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$n)$^{176}$Ta, $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$2n)$^{175}$Ta , $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$3n)$^{174}$Ta , $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, $α$4n)$^{173}$Ta, and $^{169}$Tm($^{12}$C, 2$α$2n)$^{171}$Lu reaction channels populated in the interaction of $^{12}$C projectile with $^{169}$Tm target were considered in order to investigate the mechanisms of complete and incomplete fusion reactions. The theoretically predicted excitation functions using PACE4 code …
Through the triple-alpha process occurring in red giant stars the bulk of the carbon existing in our universe is produced. We calculated the change of the triple-alpha reaction rate for slight variations of the nucleon-nucleon force using a microscopic 12-body model. Stellar model calculations for a low-mass, intermediate-mass and massive star using the different triple-alpha reaction rates obtained with different strengths of the N-N interaction have been performed. Even with a change of 0.4% in the strength of N-N force, carbon-based life appears to be impossible, since all the stars then wo…
Background: Recent high-precision measurements of alpha-induced reaction data below the Coulomb barrier have pointed out questions of the alpha-particle optical-model potential (OMP) which are yet open within various mass ranges. Purpose: The applicability of a previous optical potential and eventual uncertainties and/or systematic errors of the OMP assessment at low energies can be further considered on this basis. Method: Nuclear model parameters based on the analysis of recent independent data, particularly gamma-ray strength functions, have been involved within statistical model calculatio…

The CLAS collaboration at Jefferson Laboratory has compared nuclear parton distributions for a range of nuclear targets and found that the EMC effect measured in deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering has a strongly "isophobic" nature. This surprising observation suggests short-range correlations between neighboring $n$ and $p$ nucleons in nuclear wavefunctions that are much stronger compared to $p-p$ or $n-n$ correlations. In this paper we propose a definitive experimental test of the nucleon-nucleon explanation of the isophobic nature of the EMC effect: the diffractive dissociation on a nu…
Light hypernuclei with an $α$ cluster substructure of the core nucleus are studied using an accurate cluster approach (the Hyper-THSR wave function) in combination with a density-dependent $Λ$ hyperon-nuclear interaction derived from chiral SU(3) effective field theory. This interaction includes important two-pion exchange processes involving $ΣN$ intermediate states and associated three-body mechanisms as well as effective mass and surface terms arising in a derivative expansion of the in-medium $Λ$ self-energy. Applications and calculated results are presented and discussed for $_Λ^9$Be and …
We combine a recently developed ab initio many-body approach capable of describing simultaneously both bound and scattering states, the ab initio NCSM/RGM, with an importance truncation scheme for the cluster eigenstate basis and demostrate its applicability to nuclei with mass numbers as high as 17. Using soft similarity renormalization group evolved chiral nucleon-nucleon interactions, we first calculate nucleon-4He phase shifts, cross sections and analyzing power. Next, we investigate nucleon scattering on 7Li, 7Be, 12C and 16O in coupled-channel NCSM/RGM calculations that include low-lying…
