A Bayesian statistical analysis using redshift space distortions data is performed to test a model of Symmetric Teleparallel Gravity where gravity is non-metrical. The cosmological background mimics a $Λ$CDM evolution but differences arise in the perturbations. The linear matter fluctuations are numerically evolved and the study of the growth rate of structures is analysed in this cosmological setting. The best fit parameters reveal that the $σ_8$ tension between Planck and Large Scale Structure data can be alleviated within this framework.
We study a quintessence model for which the scalar field is disformally coupled to dark matter. The background mimics the LCDM cosmological evolution and the quintessence potential is not specified. A disformal effect due to the quintessential mass is seen in the growth rate of the cosmological structure on large scales. The disformal parameter renders no appreciable effect on the evolution of the total matter perturbation. An analysis of the conformal parameter and quintessential mass is investigated using the Redshift Space Distortion data to find the best-fit values that might explain the w…
We present a formulation of observed number density fluctuations of gravitational-wave (GW) sources in a three dimensional space. In GW observations, redshift identification for each GW source is a challenging issue, in particular, for high redshift sources. The use of observed luminosity distance as a distance indicator will be a simple yet optimal way for measuring the clustering signal. We derive the density fluctuations of GW sources estimated from observed luminosity distance and sky position of each source. The density fluctuations are distorted as similar to the so-called redshift space…
We perform a comprehensive redshift-space distortion analysis based on cosmic voids in the large-scale distribution of galaxies observed with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. To this end, we measure multipoles of the void-galaxy cross-correlation function and compare them with standard model predictions in cosmology. Merely considering linear-order theory allows us to accurately describe the data on the entire available range of scales and to probe void-centric distances down to about $2h^{-1}{\rm Mpc}$. Common systematics, such as the Fingers-of-God effect, scale-dependent galaxy bias, and nonli…
We extend previous analyses of wide-angle correlations in the galaxy power spectrum in redshift space to include all general relativistic effects. These general relativistic corrections to the standard approach become important on large scales and at high redshifts, and they lead to new terms in the wide-angle correlations. We show that in principle the new terms can produce corrections of nearly 10 % on Gpc scales over the usual Newtonian approximation. General relativistic corrections will be important for future large-volume surveys such as SKA and Euclid, although the problem of cosmic var…
We present an improved prescription for matter power spectrum in redshift space taking a proper account of both the non-linear gravitational clustering and redshift distortion, which are of particular importance for accurately modeling baryon acoustic oscillations (BAOs). Contrary to the models of redshift distortion phenomenologically introduced but frequently used in the literature, the new model includes the corrections arising from the non-linear coupling between the density and velocity fields associated with two competitive effects of redshift distortion, i.e., Kaiser and Finger-of-God e…
Using cosmic voids to probe the growth rate of cosmic structure, and hence the nature of dark energy, is particularly interesting in the context of modified gravity theories that rely on the screening mechanism. In this work we improve the modelling of redshift-space distortions around voids in the dark matter density field, and thus reduce systematic errors in the derivation of cosmological parameters. We also show how specific types of voids can be used to better probe the growth rate, using a flexible void finder. We apply our results to test for a quintessence type of dark energy vs. a LCD…
We present an impact of coupling between dark matter and a scalar field, which might be responsible for dark energy, on measurements of redshift-space distortions. We point out that, in the presence of conformal and/or disformal coupling, linearized continuity and Euler equations for total matter fluid significantly deviate from the standard ones even in the sub-horizon scales. In such a case, a peculiar velocity of total matter field is determined not only by a logarithmic time derivative of its density perturbation but also by density perturbations for both dark matter and baryon, leading to…
The peculiar motion of galaxies can be a particularly sensitive probe of gravitational collapse. As such, it can be used to measure the dynamics of dark matter and dark energy as well the nature of the gravitational laws at play on cosmological scales. Peculiar motions manifest themselves as an overall anisotropy in the measured clustering signal as a function of the angle to the line-of-sight, known as redshift-space distortion (RSD). Limiting factors in this measurement include our ability to model non-linear galaxy motions on small scales and the complexities of galaxy bias. The anisotropy …
In the expanding Universe, the average temperature of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is expected to depend like TCMB~(1+z) on redshift z. Adiabatic photon production (or destruction) or deviations from isotropy and homogeneity could modify this scaling and several observational tests have been carried out in response. Here, we explain why `adiabatic' conditions are extremely difficult to establish in the redshift range targeted by these tests. Thus, instead of leading to a simple rescaling of the CMB temperature, a spectral distortion should be produced, which can be constrained using C…
There is a well known degeneracy between the enhancement of the growth of large-scale structure produced by modified gravity models and the suppression due to the free-streaming of massive neutrinos at late times. This makes the matter power-spectrum alone a poor probe to distinguish between modified gravity and the concordance $Λ$CDM model when neutrino masses are not strongly constrained. In this work, we investigate the potential of using redshift-space distortions (RSD) to break this degeneracy when the modification to gravity is scale-dependent in the form of Hu-Sawicki $f(R)$. We find th…
This study is devoted to the implications of scale-dependent gravity in Cosmology. Redshift-space distortion data indicate that there is a tension between $Λ$CDM and available observations as far as the value of the rms density fluctuation, $σ_8$, is concerned. It has been pointed out that this tension may be alleviated in alternative theories in which gravity is weaker at red-shift $z \sim 1$. We study the evolution of density perturbations for non-relativistic matter on top of a spatially flat FLRW Universe, and we compute the combination $A=f σ_8$ in the framework of scale-dependent gravity…

We investigate phenomenological interactions between dark matter and dark energy and constrain these models by employing the most recent cosmological data including the cosmic microwave background radiation anisotropies from Planck 2015, Type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, the Hubble constant and redshift-space distortions. We find that the interaction in the dark sector parameterized as an energy transfer from dark matter to dark energy is strongly suppressed by the whole updated cosmological data. On the other hand, an interaction between dark sectors with the energy flow from …
One problem of the $Λ$CDM model is the tension between the $S_8$ found in Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) experiments and the smaller one obtained from large-scale observations in the late Universe. The $σ_8$ quantifies the relatively high level of clustering. Bayesian Analysis of the Redshift Space Distortion (RSD) selected data set yields: $S_8 = 0.700^{+0.038}_{-0.037}$. The fit has $3σ$ tension with the Planck 2018 results. With Gaussian processes method a model-independent reconstructions of the growth history of matter in-homogeneity is studied. The fit yields $S_8 = 0.707^{+0.085}_{-0…
We introduce a formalism, valid both for dark matter and collapsed objects, that allows us to describe redshift space distortions in the context of the Effective Field Theory of Large Scale Structures (EFTofLSS). Expressing density perturbations in redshift space corresponds to performing a change of coordinates and the resulting expressions contain products of density perturbations and velocity fields evaluated at the same location. These terms are sensitive to non-perturbative short-distance physics and in order to correctly treat them they need to be renormalized by adding suitable countert…
The red-shift space distortions in the galaxy power spectrum can be used to measure the growth rate of matter density perturbations delta_m. For dynamical dark energy models in General Relativity we provide a convenient analytic formula of f(z) sigma_8(z) written as a function of the redshift z, where f=d ln delta_m/d ln a (a is the cosmological scale factor) and sigma_8 is the rms amplitude of over-density at the scale 8 h^{-1} Mpc. Our formula can be applied to the models of imperfect fluids, quintessence, and k-essence, provided that the dark energy equation of state w does not vary signifi…
Inflation scenarios kinetically coupled with the Einstein tensor have been widely studied. They can be consistent with current observational data. Future experiments on the measurement on CMB distortions will potentially extend information about the scalar spectrum to small scales $1 \Mpc^{-1} \lesssim k \lesssim 2 \times 10^4 \Mpc^{-1}$. By taking the sensitivity of the PIXIE experiment as the criterion, we perform a model-oriented analysis of the observational prospects of spectral distortions for kinetically coupled inflation. There are five models that possibly generate a detectable level …
Cosmological perturbations in the energy-momentum squared gravity theory: constraints from gravitational wave standard sirens and redshift space distortions
We study the possibility of realizing a growth rate of matter density perturbations lower than that in General Relativity. Using the approach of the effective field theory of modified gravity encompassing theories beyond Horndeski, we derive the effective gravitational coupling $G_{\rm eff}$ and the gravitational slip parameter $η$ for perturbations deep inside the Hubble radius. In Horndeski theories we derive a necessary condition for achieving weak gravity associated with tensor perturbations, but this is not a sufficient condition due to the presence of a scalar-matter interaction that alw…
Large redshift surveys of galaxies and clusters are providing the first opportunities to search for distortions in the observed pattern of large-scale structure due to such effects as gravitational redshift. We focus on non-linear scales and apply a quasi-Newtonian approach using N-body simulations to predict the small asymmetries in the cross-correlation function of two galaxy different populations. Following recent work by Bonvin et al., Zhao and Peacock and Kaiser on galaxy clusters, we include effects which enter at the same order as gravitational redshift: the transverse Doppler effect, l…
Prior to recombination, Silk damping causes the dissipation of energy from acoustic waves into the monopole of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), resulting in spectral distortions. These can be used to probe the primordial scalar power spectrum on smaller scales than it is possible with CMB anisotropies. An enhancement of power on these scales is nevertheless required for the resulting distortions to be detectable by future experiments like PIXIE. In this paper, we examine all 49 single-field inflation models listed by Martin et al. in the Encyclopaedia Inflationaris [1] and find that only…
The currently released datasets of the observational surveys reveal the redshift dependence of the physical features of cosmic voids. We study the void induced hyperbolicity, that is the deviation of the photon beams propagating the voids, taking into account the redshift dependence of the void size indicated by the observational surveys. The cumulative image distortion parameter is obtained for the case of a sequence of variable size voids and given underdensity parameters. The derived formulae applied along with those of redshift distortion ones, enable one to trace the number and the physic…
This paper and the others in the series challenge the standard model of the effects of gravitational lensing on observations at large distances. We show that due to the cumulative effect of lensing, areas corresponding to an observed solid angle can be quite different than would be estimated from the corresponding Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre model, even when averaged over large angular scales. This paper concentrates on the specific example of spherically symmetric but spatially inhomogeneous dust universes, the Lema\^ıtre-Tolman-Bondi models, and shows that radial lensing significantly distorts the …
