We present evidence of anisotropic galaxy assembly bias in the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey Data Release 12 galaxy sample at a level exceeding $5σ$. We use measurements of the line-of-sight velocity dispersion $σ_\star$ and stellar mass $M_\star$ to perform a simple split into subsamples of galaxies. We show that the amplitude of the monopole and quadrupole moments of the power spectrum depend differently on $σ_\star$ and $M_\star$, allowing us to split the galaxy sample into subsets with matching monopoles but significantly different quadrupoles on all scales. Combining data from the LOWZ and CMASS NGC galaxy samples, we find $>5σ$ evidence for anisotropic bias on scales $k<0.15\,h\,\rm{Mpc}^{-1}$. We also examine splits using other observed properties. For galaxy samples split using $M_\star$ and projected size $R_0$, we find no significant evidence of anisotropic bias. Galaxy samples selected using additional properties exhibit strongly varying degrees of anisotropic assembly bias, depending on which combination of properties is used to split into subsets. This may explain why previous searches for this effect using the Fundamental Plane found inconsistent results. We conclude that any selection of a galaxy sample that depends on $σ_\star$ can give biased and incorrect Redshift Space Distortion measurements.
In this paper, we investigate whether galaxy assembly bias can reconcile the 20-40% disagreement between the observed galaxy projected clustering signal and the galaxy-galaxy lensing signal in the BOSS CMASS galaxy sample reported in Leauthaud et al. (2017). We use the suite of AbacusCosmos Lamda-CDM simulations at Planck best-fit cosmology and two flexible implementations of extended halo occupation distribution (HOD) models that incorporate galaxy assembly bias to build forward models and produce joint fits of the observed galaxy clustering signal and the galaxy-galaxy lensing signal. We fin…
Building accurate and flexible galaxy-halo connection models is crucial in modeling galaxy clustering on non-linear scales. Recent studies have found that halo concentration by itself cannot capture the full galaxy assembly bias effect and that the local environment of the halo can be an excellent indicator of galaxy assembly bias. In this paper, we propose an extended halo occupation distribution model (HOD) that includes both a concentration-based assembly bias term and an environment-based assembly bias term. We use this model to achieve a good fit (chi^2/DoF = 1.35) on the 2D redshift-spac…
We measure the void probability function (VPF) of galaxies in the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). The VPF provides complementary information to standard two-point statistics in that it is sensitive to galaxy bias in the most extreme underdensities in the cosmic web. Thus the VPF is ideal for testing whether halo occupation of galaxies depends on large-scale density, an effect known as galaxy assembly bias. We find that standard HOD model---one parameterized by halo mass only---fit only to the two-point function, accurately predicts the VPF. Additionally, for HOD models where de…
We analyse the clustering of cosmic large scale structure using a consistent modified gravity perturbation theory, accounting for anisotropic effects along and transverse to the line of sight. The growth factor has a particular scale dependence in f(R) gravity and we fit for the shape parameter f_{R0} simultaneously with the distance and the large scale (general relativity) limit of the growth function. Using more than 690,000 galaxies in the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopy Survey Data Release 11, we find no evidence for extra scale dependence, with the 95\% confidence upper limit |f_{R0}| <8 …
Our observations of the Universe are fundamentally anisotropic, with data from galaxies separated transverse to the line of sight coming from the same epoch while that from galaxies separated parallel to the line of sight coming from different times. Moreover, galaxy velocities along the line of sight change their redshift, giving redshift space distortions. We perform a full two-dimensional anisotropy analysis of galaxy clustering data, fitting in a substantially model independent manner the angular diameter distance D_A, Hubble parameter H, and growth rate ddelta/dln a without assuming a dar…
We present the analysis of the full shape of anisotropic clustering measurement from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) quasar sample together with the combined galaxy sample from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS), re-analysed using an updated recipe for the non-linear matter power spectrum and the non-local bias parameters. We obtain constraints for flat $Λ$CDM cosmologies, focusing on the cosmological parameters that are independent of the Hubble parameter $h$. Our recovered value for the RMS linear perturbation theory variance as measured on the sc…
We analyze the clustering of large scale structure in the Universe in a model independent method, accounting for anisotropic effects along and transverse to the line of sight. The Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopy Survey Data Release 11 provides a large sample of 690,000 galaxies, allowing determination of the Hubble expansion H, angular distance D_A, and growth rate G_T at an effective redshift of z=0.57. After careful bias and convergence studies of the effects from small scale clustering, we find that cutting transverse separations below 40 Mpc/h delivers robust results while smaller scale da…
We use the observed anisotropic clustering of galaxies in the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) Data Release 11 CMASS sample to measure the linear growth rate of structure, the Hubble expansion rate and the comoving distance scale. Our sample covers 8498 ${\rm deg}^2$ and encloses an effective volume of 6.0 ${\rm Gpc}^3$ at an effective redshift of $\bar{z} = 0.57$. We find $fσ_8 = 0.441 \pm 0.044$, $H = 93.1 \pm 3.0\ {\mathrm{km}\ \mathrm{s}^{-1} \mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}}$ and $D_{\rm A} = 1380 \pm 23\ {\rm Mpc}$ when fitting the growth and expansion rate simultaneously. When we fix the…
We use subhalo abundance matching (SHAM) to model the stellar mass function (SMF) and clustering of the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) "CMASS" sample at $z\sim0.5$. We introduce a novel method which accounts for the stellar mass incompleteness of CMASS as a function of redshift, and produce CMASS mock catalogs which include selection effects, reproduce the overall SMF, the projected two-point correlation function $w_{\rm p}$, the CMASS $dn/dz$, and are made publicly available. We study the effects of assembly bias above collapse mass in the context of "age matching" and show th…
We investigate the anisotropic clustering of the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) Data Release 12 (DR12) sample, which consists of $1\,198\,006$ galaxies in the redshift range $0.2 < z < 0.75$ and a sky coverage of $10\,252\,$deg$^2$. We analyse this dataset in Fourier space, using the power spectrum multipoles to measure Redshift-Space Distortions (RSD) simultaneously with the Alcock-Paczynski (AP) effect and the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) scale. We include the power spectrum monopole, quadrupole and hexadecapole in our analysis and compare our measurements with a perturb…
We study the effect of large-scale tidal fields on internal halo properties using a set of N-body simulations. We measure significant cross-correlations between large-scale tidal fields and several non-scalar halo properties: shapes, velocity dispersion, and angular momentum. Selection effects that couple to these non-scalar halo properties can produce anisotropic clustering even in real-space. We investigate the size of this effect and show that it can produce a non-zero quadrupole similar in size to the one generated by linear redshift-space distortions (RSD). Finally, we investigate the clu…
We use $N$-body simulations to study halo assembly bias (i.e., the dependence of halo clustering on properties beyond total mass) in the density and primordial non-Gaussianity (PNG) linear bias parameters $b_1$ and $b_ϕ$, respectively. We consider concentration, spin and sphericity as secondary halo properties, for which we find a clear detection of assembly bias for $b_1$ and $b_ϕ$. At fixed total mass, halo spin and sphericity impact $b_1$ and $b_ϕ$ in a similar manner, roughly preserving the shape of the linear $b_ϕ(b_1)$ relation satisfied by the global halo population. Halo concentration,…
The physics of gravity on cosmological scales affects both the rate of assembly of large-scale structure, and the gravitational lensing of background light through this cosmic web. By comparing the amplitude of these different observational signatures, we can construct tests that can distinguish general relativity from its potential modifications. We used the latest weak gravitational lensing dataset from the Kilo-Degree Survey, KiDS-1000, in conjunction with overlapping galaxy spectroscopic redshift surveys BOSS and 2dFLenS, to perform the most precise existing amplitude-ratio test. We measur…
First test of the consistency relation for the large-scale structure using the anisotropic three-point correlation function of BOSS DR12 galaxies (An explanatory video is available at https://youtu.be/Zi36ooLPhss.)
本文联合BOSS DR12星系的各向异性2PCF与3PCF,通过3PCF四极矩约束参数$E_{\ m s}$,首次在不采用压缩极限的情况下观测检验LSS一致性关系,结果未发现违反。
We present the results obtained from the full-shape cosmology analysis of the redshift-space power spectra for 4 galaxy samples of the SDSS-III BOSS DR12 galaxy catalog over $0.2 < z < 0.75$. For the theoretical template, we use an emulator that was built from an ensemble set of $N$-body simulations, which enables fast and accurate computation of the redshift-space power spectrum of halos. Combining with the halo occupation distribution to model the halo-galaxy connection, we can compute the redshift-space power spectrum of BOSS-like galaxies in the flat $Λ$CDM cosmology. In our cosmology infe…
There are well-observed differences between cool-core (CC) and non-cool-core (NCC) clusters, but the origin of this distinction is still largely unknown. Competing theories can be divided into internal (inside-out), in which internal physical processes transform or maintain the NCC phase, and external (outside-in), in which the cluster type is determined by its initial conditions, which in turn lead to different formation histories (i.e., assembly bias). We propose a new method that uses the relative assembly bias of CC to NCC clusters, as determined via the two-point cluster-galaxy cross-corr…
The most commonly used estimators of the anisotropic galaxy power spectrum employ Fast Fourier transforms, and rely on a specific choice of the line-of-sight that breaks the symmetry between the galaxy pair. This leads to wide-angle effects, including the presence of odd power spectrum multipoles like the dipole ($\ell = 1$) and octopole ($\ell = 3$). In Fourier-space these wide-angle effects also couple to the survey window function. We present a self-consistent framework extending the commonly used window function treatment to include the wide-angle effects. We show that our framework can su…
The anisotropic galaxy 2-point correlation function (2PCF) allows measurement of the growth of large-scale structures from the effect of peculiar velocities on the clustering pattern. We present new measurements of the auto- and cross- correlation function multipoles of 69,180 WiggleZ and 46,380 BOSS-CMASS galaxies sharing an overlapping volume of ~0.2 (Gpc/h)^3. Analysing the redshift-space distortions (RSD) of galaxy 2-point statistics for these two galaxy tracers, we test for systematic errors in the modelling depending on galaxy type and investigate potential improvements in cosmological c…
The galaxy pairwise velocity dispersion (PVD) can provide important tests of non-standard gravity and galaxy formation models. We describe measurements of the PVD of galaxies in the Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey as a function of projected separation and galaxy luminosity. Due to the faint magnitude limit ($r < 19.8$) and highly-complete spectroscopic sampling of the GAMA survey, we are able to reliably measure the PVD to smaller scales ($r_\bot = 0.01$ Mpc/h) than previous work. The measured PVD at projected separations $r_\bot <~ 1$ Mpc/h increases near-monotonically with increasing …
We measure statistically anisotropic signatures imprinted in three-dimensional galaxy clustering using bipolar spherical harmonics (BipoSHs) in both Fourier space and configuration space. We then constrain a well-known quadrupolar anisotropy parameter $g_{2M}$ in the primordial power spectrum, parametrized by $P(\vec{k}) = \bar{P}(k) [ 1 + \sum_{M} g_{2M} Y_{2M}(\hat{k}) ]$, with $M$ determining the direction of the anisotropy. Such an anisotropic signal is easily contaminated by artificial asymmetries due to specific survey geometry. We precisely estimate the contaminated signal and finally s…
We investigate the potential sources of theoretical systematics in the anisotropic Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) distance scale measurements from the clustering of galaxies in configuration space using the final Data Release (DR12) of the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). We perform a detailed study of the impact on BAO measurements from choices in the methodology such as fiducial cosmology, clustering estimators, random catalogues, fitting templates, and covariance matrices. The theoretical systematic uncertainties in BAO parameters are found to be 0.002 in the isotropic dil…
We present a novel simulation-based cosmological analysis of galaxy-galaxy lensing and galaxy redshift-space clustering. Compared to analysis methods based on perturbation theory, our simulation-based approach allows us to probe a much wider range of scales, $0.4 \, h^{-1} \, \mathrm{Mpc}$ to $63 \, h^{-1} \, \mathrm{Mpc}$, including highly non-linear scales, and marginalises over astrophysical effects such as assembly bias. We apply this framework to data from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey LOWZ sample cross-correlated with state-of-the-art gravitational lensing catalogues from t…
The most massive and luminous galaxies in the Universe serve as powerful probes to study the formation of structure, the assembly of mass, and cosmology. However, their detailed formation and evolution is still barely understood. Here we extract a sample of massive mock galaxies from the semi-analytical model of galaxy formation (SAM) GALACTICUS from the MultiDark-Galaxies, by replicating the CMASS photometric selection from the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). The comparison of the GALACTICUS CMASS-mock with BOSS-CMASS data allows us to explore different aspects of the…
In Montero-Dorta et al. 2017, we show that luminous red galaxies (LRGs) from the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) at $z\sim0.55$ can be divided into two groups based on their star formation histories. So-called fast-growing LRGs assemble $80\%$ of their stellar mass at $z\sim5$, whereas slow-growing LRGs reach the same evolutionary state at $z\sim1.5$. We further demonstrate that these two subpopulations present significantly different clustering properties on scales of $\sim1 - 30 \mathrm{Mpc}$. Here, we measure the mean halo mass of each subsample using the galaxy-gala…
We investigate the abundance, small-scale clustering and galaxy-galaxy lensing signal of galaxies in the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). To this end, we present new measurements of the redshift and stellar mass dependence of the lensing properties of the galaxy sample. We analyse to what extent models assuming the Planck18 cosmology fit to the number density and clustering can accurately predict the small-scale lensing signal. In qualitative agreement with previous BOSS studies at redshift $z \sim 0.5$ and with results from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we find that the expecte…
We use a simulation-based modelling approach to analyse the anisotropic clustering of the BOSS LOWZ sample over the radial range $0.4 \, h^{-1} \, \mathrm{Mpc}$ to $63 \, h^{-1} \, \mathrm{Mpc}$, significantly extending what is possible with a purely analytic modelling framework. Our full-scale analysis yields constraints on the growth of structure that are a factor of two more stringent than any other study on large scales at similar redshifts. We infer $f σ_8 = 0.471 \pm 0.024$ at $z \approx 0.25$, and $f σ_8 = 0.431 \pm 0.025$ at $z \approx 0.40$; the corresponding $Λ$CDM predictions of the…
We present a measurement of the anisotropic void-galaxy cross-correlation function in the CMASS galaxy sample of the BOSS DR12 data release. We perform a joint fit to the data for redshift space distortions (RSD) due to galaxy peculiar velocities and anisotropies due to the Alcock-Paczynski (AP) effect, for the first time using a velocity field reconstruction technique to remove the complicating effects of RSD in the void centre positions themselves. Fits to the void-galaxy function give a 1% measurement of the AP parameter combination $D_A(z)H(z)/c = 0.4367\pm 0.0045$ at redshift $z=0.57$, wh…
We analyze the anisotropic clustering of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey-IV Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) Luminous Red Galaxy Data Release 14 (DR14) sample combined with Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) CMASS sample of galaxies in the redshift range 0.6$<z<$1.0, which consists of 80,118 galaxies from eBOSS and 46,439 galaxies from the BOSS-CMASS sample. The eBOSS-CMASS Luminous Red Galaxy sample has a sky coverage of 1,844 deg$^2$, with an effective volume of 0.9 Gpc$^3$. The analysis was made in configuration space using a Legendre multipole expansion. Th…
With the largest spectroscopic galaxy survey volume drawn from the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS), we can extract cosmological constraints from the measurements of redshift and geometric distortions at quasi-linear scales (e.g. above 50 $h^{-1}$Mpc). We analyze the broad-range shape of the monopole and quadrupole correlation functions of the BOSS Data Release 12 (DR12) CMASS galaxy sample, at the effective redshift $z=0.59$, to obtain constraints on the Hubble expansion rate $H(z)$, the angular-diameter distance $D_A(z)$, the normalized growth rate $f(z)σ_8(z)$, and th…
We present a new model for the redshift-space power spectrum of galaxies and demonstrate its accuracy in modeling the monopole, quadrupole, and hexadecapole of the galaxy density field down to scales of $k = 0.4 \ h\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$. The model describes the clustering of galaxies in the context of a halo model and the clustering of the underlying halos in redshift space using a combination of Eulerian perturbation theory and $N$-body simulations. The modeling of redshift-space distortions is done using the so-called distribution function approach. The final model has 13 free parameters, and e…
We analyze the spectra of 300,000 luminous red galaxies (LRGs) with stellar masses $M_* \gtrsim 10^{11} M_{\odot}$ from the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). By studying their star-formation histories, we find two main evolutionary paths converging into the same quiescent galaxy population at $z\sim0.55$. Fast-growing LRGs assemble $80\%$ of their stellar mass very early on ($z\sim5$), whereas slow-growing LRGs reach the same evolutionary state at $z\sim1.5$. Further investigation reveals that their clustering properties on scales of $\sim$1-30 Mpc are, at a high level o…
We evaluate the consistency between lensing and clustering probes of large-scale structure based on measurements of projected galaxy clustering from BOSS combined with overlapping galaxy-galaxy lensing from three surveys: DES Y3, HSC Y1, and KiDS-1000. An intra-lensing-survey study finds good agreement between these lensing data. We model the observations using the Dark Emulator and fit the data at two fixed cosmologies: Planck, with $S_8=0.83$, and a Lensing cosmology with $S_8=0.76$. For a joint analysis limited to scales with $R>5.25h^{-1}$Mpc, we find that both cosmologies provide an accep…
The cosmological information contained in anisotropic galaxy clustering measurements can often be compressed into a small number of parameters whose posterior distribution is well described by a Gaussian. We present a general methodology to combine these estimates into a single set of consensus constraints that encode the total information of the individual measurements, taking into account the full covariance between the different methods. We illustrate this technique by applying it to combine the results obtained from different clustering analyses, including measurements of the signature of …
We present cosmological parameter measurements from the publicly available Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) data on anisotropic galaxy clustering in Fourier space. Compared to previous studies, our analysis has two main novel features. First, we use a complete perturbation theory model that properly takes into account the non-linear effects of dark matter clustering, short-scale physics, galaxy bias, redshift-space distortions, and large-scale bulk flows. Second, we employ a Markov-Chain Monte-Carlo technique and consistently reevaluate the full power spectrum likelihood as we sc…
The well-developed separate universe technique enables accurate calibration of the response of any observable to an isotropic long-wavelength density fluctuation. The large-scale environment also hosts tidal modes that perturb all observables anisotropically. As in the separate universe, both the long tidal and density modes can be absorbed by an effective anisotropic background, on which the interaction and evolution of the short modes change accordingly. We further develop the tidal simulation method, including proper corrections to the second order Lagrangian perturbation theory (2LPT) to g…
We perform a tomographic structure growth and expansion rate analysis using the monopole, quadrupole and hexadecapole of the redshift-space galaxy power spectrum derived from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-III) Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) Data Release 12 combined sample, which covers the redshift range of $0.20<z<0.75$. By allowing for overlap between neighbouring redshift slices in order to extract information on the light-cone, we successfully obtain joint BAO and RSD constraints with a precision of $2-3\%$ for $D_A$, $3-10\%$ for $H$ and $9-12\%$ for $fσ_8$ with a red…
We analyse the anisotropic clustering of the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) CMASS Data Release 11 sample, which consists of $690 827$ galaxies in the redshift range $0.43 < z < 0.70$ and has a sky coverage of $8 498$ deg$^2$ corresponding to an effective volume of $\sim6\,\rm{Gpc}^3$. We fit the Fourier space statistics, the power spectrum and bispectrum monopoles to measure the linear and quadratic bias parameters, $b_1$ and $b_2$, for a non-linear non-local bias model, the growth of structure parameter $f$ and the amplitude of dark matter density fluctuations parametrised by …
[abridged] We present an anisotropic analysis of the baryonic acoustic oscillation (BAO) scale in the twelfth and final data release of the Baryonic Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). We independently analyse the LOWZ and CMASS galaxy samples: the LOWZ sample contains contains 361 762 galaxies with an effective redshift of $z_{\rm LOWZ}=0.32$; the CMASS sample consists of 777 202 galaxies with an effective redshift of $z_{\rm CMASS}=0.57$. We extract the BAO peak position from the monopole power spectrum moment, $α_0$, and from the $μ^2$ moment, $α_2$, where $μ$ is the cosine of the angl…
We perform a tomographic analysis of structure growth and expansion rate from the anisotropic galaxy clustering of the combined sample of Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) Data Release 12, which covers the redshift range of $0.2<z<0.75$. In order to extract the redshift information of anisotropic galaxy clustering, we analyse this data set in nine overlapping redshift slices in configuration space and perform the joint constraints on the parameters $(D_V, F_{\mathrm{AP}}, fσ_8)$ using the correlation function multipoles. The analysis pipeline is validated using the MultiDark-Patch…
We perform the first application of the wavelet scattering transform (WST) to actual galaxy observations, through a WST analysis of the BOSS DR12 CMASS dataset. We included the effects of redshift-space anisotropy, non-trivial survey geometry, systematic weights, and the Alcock-Paczynski distortion effect, following the commonly adopted steps for the power spectrum analysis. In order to capture the cosmological dependence of the WST, we use galaxy mocks obtained from the state-of-the-art ABACUSSUMMIT simulations, tuned to match the anisotropic correlation function of the BOSS CMASS sample in t…
We extract cosmological information from the anisotropic power spectrum measurements from the recently completed Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS), extending the concept of clustering wedges to Fourier space. Making use of new FFT-based estimators, we measure the power spectrum clustering wedges of the BOSS sample by filtering out the information of Legendre multipoles l > 4. Our modelling of these measurements is based on novel approaches to describe non-linear evolution, bias, and redshift-space distortions, which we test using synthetic catalogues based on large-volume N-body s…
We analyze the anisotropic two dimensional galaxy correlation function (2DCF) of the CMASS galaxy sample from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 9 (DR9) of the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) data. Modeling the 2DCF fully including nonlinear effects and redshift space distortions (RSD) in the scale range of 30 to 120 h^{-1}Mpc, we find H(0.57)r_s(z_d)/c=0.0444 +/- 0.0019, D_A(0.57)/r_s(z_d)=9.01 +/- 0.23, and f_g(0.57)σ_8(0.57)=0.474 +/- 0.075, where r_s(z_d) is the sound horizon at the drag epoch computed using a simple integral, and f_g(z) is the growth rate at redshift…
We present the first cosmological measurement derived from a galaxy density field subject to a `clipping' transformation. By enforcing an upper bound on the galaxy number density field in the Galaxy and Mass Assembly survey (GAMA), contributions from the nonlinear processes of virialisation and galaxy bias are greatly reduced. This leads to a galaxy power spectrum which is easier to model, without calibration from numerical simulations. We develop a theoretical model for the power spectrum of a clipped field in redshift space, which is exact for the case of anisotropic Gaussian fields. Clippin…
We present the GeneRalized ANd Differentiable Halo Occupation Distribution (GRAND-HOD) routine that generalizes the standard 5 parameter halo occupation distribution model (HOD) with various halo-scale physics and assembly bias. We describe the methodology of 4 different generalizations: satellite distribution generalization, velocity bias, closest approach distance generalization, and assembly bias. We showcase the signatures of these generalizations in the 2-point correlation function (2PCF) and the squeezed 3-point correlation function (squeezed 3PCF). We identify generalized HOD prescripti…
We perform an anisotropic clustering analysis of 1,133,326 galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-III) Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) Data Release (DR) 12 covering the redshift range $0.15<z<0.69$. The geometrical distortions of the galaxy positions, caused by incorrect cosmological model assumptions, are captured in the anisotropic two-point correlation function on scales 6 -- 40 $h^{-1}\rm Mpc$. The redshift evolution of this anisotropic clustering is used to place constraints on the cosmological parameters. We improve the methodology of Li et al. 2016, to enable ef…
Based on the Millennium Simulation we examine assembly bias for the halo properties: shape, triaxiality, concentration, spin, shape of the velocity ellipsoid and velocity anisotropy. For consistency we determine all these properties using the same set of particles, namely all gravitationally self-bound particles belonging to the most massive sub-structure of a given friends-of-friends halo. We confirm that near-spherical and high-spin halos show enhanced clustering. The opposite is true for strongly aspherical and low-spin halos. Further, below the typical collapse mass, M*, more concentrated …
We explore the cosmological implications of anisotropic clustering measurements in configuration space of the final galaxy samples from Data Release 12 of the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey. We implement a new detailed modelling of the effects of non-linearities, galaxy bias and redshift-space distortions that can be used to extract unbiased cosmological information from our measurements for scales $s \gtrsim 20\,h^{-1}{\rm Mpc}$. We combined the galaxy clustering information from BOSS with the latest cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations and Type Ia supernovae sampl…

The peculiar velocity field measured by redshift-space distortions (RSD) in galaxy surveys provides a unique probe of the growth of large-scale structure. However, systematic effects arise when including satellite galaxies in the clustering analysis. Since satellite galaxies tend to reside in massive halos with a greater halo bias, the inclusion boosts the clustering power. In addition, virial motions of the satellite galaxies cause a significant suppression of the clustering power due to nonlinear RSD effects. We develop a novel method to recover the redshift-space power spectrum of halos fro…
The mass, accretion rate and formation time of dark matter haloes near proto-filaments (identified as saddle points of the potential) are analytically predicted using a conditional version of the excursion set approach in its so-called "upcrossing" approximation. The model predicts that at fixed mass, mass accretion rate and formation time vary with orientation and distance from the saddle, demonstrating that assembly bias is indeed influenced by the tides imposed by the cosmic web. Starved, early forming haloes of smaller mass lie preferentially along the main axis of filaments, while more ma…
To fully extract cosmological information from nonlinear galaxy distribution in redshift space, it is essential to include higher-order statistics beyond the two-point correlation function. In this paper, we propose a new decomposition formalism for computing the anisotropic bispectrum in redshift space and for measuring it from galaxy samples. Our formalism uses tri-polar spherical harmonic decomposition with zero total angular momentum to compress the 3D modes distribution in the redshift-space bispectrum. This approach preserves three fundamental properties of the Universe: statistical homo…
We study the role of the local tidal environment in determining the assembly bias of dark matter haloes. Previous results suggest that the anisotropy of a halo's environment (i.e, whether it lies in a filament or in a more isotropic region) can play a significant role in determining the eventual mass and age of the halo. We statistically isolate this effect using correlations between the large-scale and small-scale environments of simulated haloes at $z=0$ with masses between $10^{11.6}\lesssim (m/h^{-1}M_{\odot})\lesssim10^{14.9}$. We probe the large-scale environment using a novel halo-by-ha…
