A hybrid quantum-classical filtering problem, where a qubit system is disturbed by a classical stochastic process, is investigated. The strategy is to model the classical disturbance by using an optical cavity. Relations between classical disturbances and the cavity analog system are analyzed. The dynamics of the enlarged quantum network system, which includes a qubit system and a cavity system, are derived. A stochastic master equation for the qubit-cavity hybrid system is given, based on which estimates for the state of the cavity system and the classical signal are obtained. The quantum extended Kalman filter is employed to achieve efficient computation. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our methods.
In this paper, a novel robust output regulation control framework is proposed for the system subject to noise, modeled disturbance and unmodeled disturbance to seek tracking performance and robustness simultaneously. The output regulation scheme is utilized in the framework to track the reference in the presence of modeled disturbance, and the effect of unmodeled disturbance is reduced by an $\mathcal{H}_\infty$ compensator. The Kalman filter can be also introduced in the stabilization loop to deal with the white noise. Furthermore, the tracking error in the presence/absence of noise and distu…
This work investigates the finite-horizon optimal covariance steering problem for discrete-time linear systems subject to both additive and multiplicative uncertainties as well as state and input chance constraints. In particular, a tractable convex approximation of the optimal covariance steering problem is developed by tightening the chance constraints and by introducing a suitable change of variables. The solution of the convex approximation is shown to be a valid (albeit potentially suboptimal) solution to the original chance-constrained covariance steering problem.

Self-triggered control (STC) and periodic event-triggered control (PETC) are aperiodic sampling techniques aiming at reducing control data communication when compared to periodic sampling. In both techniques, the effects of measurement noise in continuous-time systems with output feedback are unaddressed. In this work we prove that additive noise does not hinder stability of output-feedback PETC of linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. Then we build an STC strategy that estimates PETC's worst-case triggering times. To accomplish this, we use set-based methods, more specifically ellipsoidal sets…
Non-Linear Estimation using the Weighted Average Consensus-Based Unscented Filtering for Various Vehicles Dynamics towards Autonomous Sensorless Design
Motion systems are often subject to disturbances such as cogging, commutation errors, and imbalances, that vary with velocity and appear periodic in time for constant operating velocities. The aim of this paper is to develop a repetitive controller (RC) for disturbances that are not periodic in the time domain, yet occur due to an identical position-domain disturbance. A new spatial RC framework is developed, allowing to attenuate disturbances that are periodic in the position domain but manifest a-periodic in the time domain. A Gaussian process (GP) based memory is employed with a suitable pe…
This paper investigates the use of extended Kalman filtering to train recurrent neural networks with rather general convex loss functions and regularization terms on the network parameters, including $\ell_1$-regularization. We show that the learning method is competitive with respect to stochastic gradient descent in a nonlinear system identification benchmark and in training a linear system with binary outputs. We also explore the use of the algorithm in data-driven nonlinear model predictive control and its relation with disturbance models for offset-free closed-loop tracking.
This paper presents a nonlinear model predictive control strategy for stochastic systems with general (state and input dependent) disturbances subject to chance constraints. Our approach uses an online computed stochastic tube to ensure stability, constraint satisfaction and recursive feasibility in the presence of stochastic uncertainties. The shape of the tube and the constraint backoff is based on an offline computed incremental Lyapunov function.
This paper introduces the problem of passive control of a chain of N identical masses in which there is an identical passive connection between neighbouring masses and a similar connection to a movable point. The problem arises in the design of multi-storey buildings which are subjected to earthquake disturbances, but applies in other situations, for example vehicle platoons. The paper studies the scalar transfer functions from the disturbance to a given intermass displacement. It is shown that these transfer functions can be conveniently represented in the form of complex iterative maps and t…
The study proposes new results on the set input-to-state stability (ISS) subject to a small input time delay for compact, invariant sets that contains the origin. First, using the nonlinear small-gain theory, we prove a Razumikhin-type theorem that ensures ISS for sets in the setup of functional differential equations (FDEs) with disturbances. Next we show how this theorem can be used to ensure set ISS for nonlinear systems with input delays and disturbances. In comparison to the existing research on set ISS robustness with respect to small time delays at the input, our results are rather broa…
Model predictive control (MPC) has become the most widely used advanced control method in process industry. In many cases, forecasts of the disturbances are available, e.g., predicted renewable power generation based on weather forecast. While the predictions of disturbances may not be accurate, utilizing the information can significantly improve the control performance in response to the disturbances. By exploiting process and disturbance models, future system behaviour can be predicted and used to optimise control actions via minimisation of an economical cost function which incorporates the…
A general controller scheme for stabilizing a non-linear system, which has its origin from the linear system theory, is proposed in this paper. The proposed controller can stabilize the non-linear system subjected to initial conditions. An effective way to obtain the controller parameters is presented with the knowledge of the system model. The controller is designed for the linear time-invariant (LTI) system, which can reject any disturbance acting on it. Paper emphasis the idea of an integrator controller in disturbance rejection. The concept is extended to the application to non-linear syst…
The robust disturbance rejection controller has been the subject of intensive research due to its undeniable importance for automation. Modern control theory tends to use model-based approaches versus model-free approaches, especially when it comes to highly modern applications. The backbone of the dissertation is based on the systematic modeling of dynamic systems and the development of advanced control methods. Accordingly, the dissertation begins with the investigation of nonlinearities in dynamic systems. The extension of classic subspace algorithms for linear systems in the frequency doma…

Abstract-In this manuscript, model predictive control for class of discrete fuzzy large-scale systems subjected to bounded time-varying delay and disturbances is studied. The considered method is Razumikhin for time-varying delay large-scale systems, in which it includes a Lyapunov function associated with the original non-augmented state space of system dynamics in comparison with the Krasovskii method. As a rule, the Razumikhin method has a perfect potential to avoid the inherent complexity of the Krasovskii method especially in the presence of large delays and disturbances. The considered l…
We propose a stochastic MPC scheme using an optimization over the initial state for the predicted trajectory. Considering linear discrete-time systems under unbounded additive stochastic disturbances subject to chance constraints, we use constraint tightening based on probabilistic reachable sets to design the MPC. The scheme avoids the infeasibility issues arising from unbounded disturbances by including the initial state as a decision variable. We show that the stabilizing control scheme can guarantee constraint satisfaction in closed loop, assuming unimodal disturbances. In addition to illu…
Recent advances in safety-critical risk-aware control are predicated on apriori knowledge of the disturbances a system might face. This paper proposes a method to efficiently learn these disturbances online, in a risk-aware context. First, we introduce the concept of a Surface-at-Risk, a risk measure for stochastic processes that extends Value-at-Risk -- a commonly utilized risk measure in the risk-aware controls community. Second, we model the norm of the state discrepancy between the model and the true system evolution as a scalar-valued stochastic process and determine an upper bound to its…
