The amount of sensitive data, which is transmitted wirelessly will increase with future technologies. This raises many questions about secure data transmission. Besides cryptography, information-theoretic security gained increasing attention over the recent years. Among others, it deals with the problem of secure data transmission on the physical layer to a legitimate receiver (Bob) in the presence of an eavesdropper (Eve). In this work, we investigate upper and lower bounds on the secrecy outage probability for slowly-fading wiretap channels with an arbitrary dependency structure between the fading channels to Bob and Eve. Both cases of absence of channel-state information at the transmitter (CSI-T) and availability of CSI-T of only the main channel to the legitimate receiver are considered. Furthermore, we derive explicit expressions for the upper and lower bounds for Rayleigh fading and compare them to the case of independent channels. The joint distribution of the legitimate and eavesdropper channels has a tremendous impact on the achievable secrecy outage probability. The bounds enable developing guaranteed secrecy schemes by only measuring the marginal channel distributions.
We study the outage probability of opportunistic relay selection in decode-and-forward relaying with secrecy constraints. We derive the closed-form expression for the outage probability. Based on the analytical result, the asymptotic performance is then investigated. The accuracy of our performance analysis is verified by the simulation results.
In this paper, we study the secrecy rate and outage probability in Multiple-Input-Single-Output (MISO) Gaussian wiretap channels at the limit of a large number of legitimate users and eavesdroppers. In particular, we analyze the asymptotic achievable secrecy rates and outage, when only statistical knowledge on the wiretap channels is available to the transmitter. The analysis provides exact expressions for the reduction in the secrecy rate as the number of eavesdroppers grows, compared to the boost in the secrecy rate as the number of legitimate users grows.
This letter studies information-theoretic security without knowing the eavesdropper's channel fading state. We present an alternative secrecy outage formulation to measure the probability that message transmissions fail to achieve perfect secrecy. Using this formulation, we design two transmission schemes that satisfy the given security requirement while achieving good throughput performance.
This paper investigates physical layer security (PLS) in the intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted multiple-user uplink channel. Since the instantaneous eavesdropper's channel state information (CSI) is unavailable, the secrecy rate can not be measured. In this case, existing investigations usually focus on the maximization of the minimum (max-min) of signal to interference plus noise power ratio (SINRs) among multiple users, and do not consider secrecy outage probability caused by eavesdroppers. In this paper, we first formulate the minimization of the maximum (min-max) secrecy outage…
This paper addresses Physical Layer Security (PLS) for a wireless sensor network in which multiple sensor nodes communicate with a single sink in the presence of an eavesdropper. Under the assumption of sink using outdated channel state information (CSI) of the eavesdropper link, the outage probability of achievable secrecy rate under Weibull fading is investigated and its analytical expressions are derived. Specifically, we consider sensor scheduling to enhance PLS, thereby we quantify the degradation in outage probability due to outdated CSI under the best-node scheduling scheme and compare …
The secrecy outage performance of wireless communication systems operating over spatially correlated composite fading channels is analyzed in this paper. We adopt a multiplicative composite channel model for both the legitimate communication link and the link between the eavesdropper and the legitimate transmitter, consisting of Nakagami-$m$ distributed small-scale fading and shadowing (large-scale fading) modeled by the Gamma distribution. We consider the realistic case where small-scale fading between the links is independent, but shadowing is arbitrarily correlated, and present novel analyt…
This article investigates physical layer security (PLS) in reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted multiple-input multiple-output multiple-antenna-eavesdropper (MIMOME) channels. Existing researches ignore the problem that secrecy rate can not be calculated if the eavesdropper's instantaneous channel state information (CSI) is unknown. Furthermore, without the secrecy rate expression, beamforming and phase shifter optimization with the purpose of PLS enhancement is not available. To address these problems, we first give the expression of secrecy outage probability for any beamforming…
In this paper, we explore the physical-layer security of a multi-user wireless system that consists of multiple users intending to transmit to a base station (BS), while multiple eavesdroppers attempt to tap the user transmissions. We examine the employment of multi-user scheduling for improving the transmission security against eavesdropping and propose a multi-user scheduling scheme, which only requires the channel state information (CSI) of BS without the need of the passive eavesdroppers' CSI. We also consider the round-robin scheduling for comparison purposes. The closed-form secrecy outa…
This work investigates the secrecy performance for a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer system that operates in the presence of cooperating eavesdroppers. The multi-antenna access point's transmission is used for information-decoding by a multi-antenna node and for energy-harvesting (EH) by multiple single-antenna nodes. However, some of the nodes authorized for EH only attempt to eavesdrop on the ongoing information transmission by utilizing a generalized on-off power splitting architecture. We derive a closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability of the conside…
In this paper, we study the secure transmission in multihop wireless networks with randomize-and-forward (RaF) relaying, in the presence of randomly distributed eavesdroppers. By considering adaptive encoder with on-off transmission (OFT) scheme, we investigate the optimal design of the wiretap code and routing strategies to maximize the secrecy rate while satisfying the secrecy outage probability (SOP) constraint. We derive the exact expressions for the optimal rate parameters of the wiretap code. Then the secure routing problem is solved by revising the classical Bellman-Ford algorithm. Simu…
We analyze the secrecy performance of a two-hop mixed radio frequency (RF)/underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) system using a decode-and-forward (DF) relay. All RF and UWOC links are modeled by the $α-μ$ and exponential-generalized Gamma distributions, respectively. We first derive the expressions of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) in exact closed-form, which are subsequently used to derive asymptotic expressions at high SNR that only includes simple functions for further insight. Moreover, based on the asymptotic expression, we can determine the optimal transmit power for a …
Theoretical studies on physical layer security often adopt the secrecy outage probability as the performance metric for wireless communications over quasi-static fading channels. The secrecy outage probability has two limitations from a practical point of view: a) it does not give any insight into the eavesdropper's decodability of confidential messages; b) it cannot characterize the amount of information leakage to the eavesdropper when an outage occurs. Motivated by the limitations of the secrecy outage probability, we propose three new secrecy metrics for secure transmissions over quasi-sta…
We evaluate the secrecy performance of a multiple access cooperative network where the destination node is wiretapped by a malicious and passive eavesdropper. We propose the application of the network coding technique as an alternative to increase the secrecy at the destination node, on the top of improving the error performance of the legitimate communication, already demonstrated in the literature. Network coding is leveraged by assuming that the legitime cooperative nodes are able to perform non-binary linear combinations of different frames before the transmission. Different scenarios with…
An alternative or supplementary approach named as physical layer security has been proposed to afford an extra security layer on top of the conventional cryptography technique. In this paper, an overview of secrecy performance investigations over the classic Alice-Bob-Eve wiretap fading channels is conducted. On the basis of the classic wiretap channel model, we have comprehensively listed and thereafter compared the existing works on physical layer secrecy analysis considering the small-scale, large-scale, composite, and cascaded fading channel models. Exact secrecy metrics expressions, inclu…
In this paper, the physical layer security aspects of a wireless framework over α-\k{appa}-μ shadowed (AKMS) fading channel are examined by acquiring closed-form novel expressions of average secrecy capacity, secure outage probability (SOP), and strictly positive secrecy capacity. The lower bound of SOP is derived along with the asymptotic expression of SOP at the high signal-to-noise ratio regime in order to achieve secrecy diversity gain. Capitalizing on these expressions, the consequences due to the simultaneous occurrence of fading and shadowing are quantified. Finally, Monte-Carlo simulat…
This paper presents a polar coding scheme to achieve secrecy in block fading binary symmetric wiretap channels without the knowledge of instantaneous channel state information (CSI) at the transmitter. For this model, a coding scheme that hierarchically utilizes polar codes is presented. In particular, on polarization of different binary symmetric channels over different fading blocks, each channel use is modeled as an appropriate binary erasure channel over fading blocks. Polar codes are constructed for both coding over channel uses for each fading block and coding over fading blocks for cert…
This paper considers point to point secure communication over flat fading channels under an outage constraint. More specifically, we extend the definition of outage capacity to account for the secrecy constraint and obtain sharp characterizations of the corresponding fundamental limits under two different assumptions on the transmitter CSI (Channel state information). First, we find the outage secrecy capacity assuming that the transmitter has perfect knowledge of the legitimate and eavesdropper channel gains. In this scenario, the capacity achieving scheme relies on opportunistically exchangi…
This paper considers the secrecy outage performance of a multiple-relay assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network over Nakagami-$m$ fading channels. Two slots are utilized to transmit signals from the base station to destination. At the first slot, the base station broadcasts the superposition signal of the two users to all decode-and-forward relays by message mapping strategy. Then the selected relay transmits superposition signal to the two users via power-domain NOMA technology. Three relay selection (RS) schemes, i.e., optimal single relay selection (OSRS) scheme, two-step sin…
The fading broadcast channel with confidential messages (BCC) is investigated, where a source node has common information for two receivers (receivers 1 and 2), and has confidential information intended only for receiver 1. The confidential information needs to be kept as secret as possible from receiver 2. The channel state information (CSI) is assumed to be known at both the transmitter and the receivers. The secrecy capacity region is first established for the parallel Gaussian BCC, and the optimal source power allocations that achieve the boundary of the secrecy capacity region are derived…
This paper presents a detailed secrecy outage performance analysis of correlated multi-antenna wiretap channels with three popular diversity combining schemes, namely maximal ratio combining, selection combining, and equal gain combining at the legitimate receiver. For single input multiple output wiretap channels, both exact and asymptotic expressions are derived for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) of these systems. The findings suggest that, compared with the scenario where all the channels are independent, correlation of the main channels alone increases the SOP by a factor of 1/ det(U…
In this work, we consider a scenario where two multiple-aperture legitimate nodes (Alice and Bob) communicate by means of Free-Space Optical (FSO) communication in the presence of a multiple-aperture eavesdropper (Eve), which is subject to pointing errors. Two different schemes are considered depending on the availability of channel state information (CSI) at Alice: i) the adaptive scheme, where Alice possesses the instantaneous CSI with respect to Bob; ii) the fixed-rate scheme, where such information is not available at Alice. The performance of the aforementioned schemes is evaluated in ter…
This paper deals with the secrecy capacity of the radio channel in interference-limited regime. We assume that interferers are uniformly scattered over the network area according to a Point Poisson Process and the channel model consists of path-loss, log-normal shadowing and Nakagami-m fading. Both the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity and the secrecy outage probability are then derived in closed-form expressions using tools of stochastic geometry and higher-order statistics. Our numerical results show how the secrecy metrics are affected by the disposition of the desired receiver, the …
The secrecy performance of realistic wireless multicast scenarios can be significantly deteriorated by the simultaneous occurrence of multipath and shadowing. To resolve this security threat, in this work an opportunistic relaying-based dual-hop wireless multicast framework is proposed in which the source dispatches confidential information to a bunch of receivers via intermediate relays under the wiretapping attempts of multiple eavesdroppers. Two scenarios, i.e. non-line of sight (NLOS) and line of sight (LOS) communications along with the multiplicative and LOS shadowing are considered wher…
In this paper, we study the problem of physical layer security in a large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (LS-MIMO) relaying system. The advantage of LS-MIMO relaying systems is exploited to enhance both wireless security and spectral efficiency. In particular, the challenging issue incurred by short interception distance is well addressed. Under very practical assumptions, i.e., no eavesdropper's channel state information (CSI) and imperfect legitimate channel CSI, this paper gives a thorough investigation of the impact of imperfect CSI in two classic relaying systems, i.e., amplify-and-…
In this paper, we investigate physical-layer security for a heterogeneous cellular network consisting of a macro cell and a small cell in the presence of a passive eavesdropper that intends to tap both the macro-cell and small-cell transmissions. Both the orthogonal spectrum sharing (OSS) and non-orthogonal spectrum sharing (NOSS) are considered for the heterogeneous cellular network. The OSS allows the macro cell and small cell to access a given spectrum band in an orthogonal manner, whereas the NOSS enables them to access the same spectrum simultaneously and mutual interference exits. As a c…
This paper proposes a general analytical approach to derive the outage probability of hybrid automatic repeat request with incremental redundancy (HARQ-IR) over correlated fading channels in closed-form. Unlike prior analyses, the consideration of channel correlation is one of the key reasons making the outage analysis involved. Using conditional Mellin transform, the outage probability of HARQ-IR over correlated Rayleigh fading channels is exactly expressed as a mixture of outage probabilities of HARQ-IR over independent Nakagami fading channels, where the weights are negative multinomial pro…
In this paper, we investigate the physical-layer security of a multi-user multi-eavesdropper cognitive radio system, which is composed of multiple cognitive users (CUs) transmitting to a common cognitive base station (CBS), while multiple eavesdroppers may collaborate with each other or perform independently in intercepting the CUs-CBS transmissions, which are called the coordinated and uncoordinated eavesdroppers, respectively. Considering multiple CUs available, we propose the round-robin scheduling as well as the optimal and suboptimal user scheduling schemes for improving the security of C…
In this paper we consider the robust secure beamformer design for MISO wiretap channels. Assume that the eavesdroppers' channels are only partially available at the transmitter, we seek to maximize the secrecy rate under the transmit power and secrecy rate outage probability constraint. The outage probability constraint requires that the secrecy rate exceeds certain threshold with high probability. Therefore including such constraint in the design naturally ensures the desired robustness. Unfortunately, the presence of the probabilistic constraints makes the problem non-convex and hence diffic…
A simple approximation for the secrecy outage probability (SOP) over generalized-K fading channels is developed. This approximation becomes tighter as the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the wiretap channel decreases. Based on this simple expression, we also analyze the asymptotic SOP in the high SNR region of the main channel. Besides simplifying the SOP expression significantly, this asymptotic SOP expression reveals the secrecy diversity order in a general case. Numerical results demonstrate the high accuracy of our proposed approximation results.
In this paper, the secrecy analysis of physical layer when both the main and wiretap channels undergo $κ-μ$ shadowed fading channel is investigated. In particular, the average secrecy capacity (ASC), secure outage probability (SOP), the lower bound of SOP (SOP$^L$), and the probability of strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are derived by using the classic Wyner's wiretap model. Two different scenarios for the fading parameters, i.e., $μ$ and $m$ which represents the shadowing impact have been studied. These parameters are chosen first as arbitrary numbers, thus the performance metrics a…
We consider a two user fading Multiple Access Channel with a wire-tapper (MAC-WT) where the transmitter has the channel state information (CSI) to the intended receiver but not to the eavesdropper (eve). We provide an achievable secrecy sum-rate with optimal power control. We next provide a secrecy sum-rate with optimal power control and cooperative jamming (CJ). We then study an achievable secrecy sum rate by employing an ON/OFF power control scheme which is more easily computable. We also employ CJ over this power control scheme. Results show that CJ boosts the secrecy sum-rate significantly…
We analyze a secure dual-hop mixed radio frequency-free space optical (RF-FSO) downlink simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) systems. The FSO link and all RF links experience Gamma-Gamma, independent and identical Nakagami-$m$ fading, respectively. We analyze the effects of atmospheric turbulence, pointing error, detection technology, path loss, and energy harvesting on secrecy performance. Signal-to-noise ratios at both legitimate and illegitimate receivers are not independent since they are both simultaneously influenced by the FSO link. We derive the closed-form expr…
In slow fading scenarios, cooperation between nodes can increase the amount of diversity for communication. We study the performance limit in such scenarios by analyzing the outage capacity of slow fading relay channels. Our focus is on the low SNR and low outage probability regime, where the adverse impact of fading is greatest but so are the potential gains from cooperation. We showed that while the standard Amplify-Forward protocol performs very poorly in this regime, a modified version we called the Bursty Amplify-Forward protocol is optimal and achieves the outage capacity of the network.…
This paper studies the secrecy rate maximization problem of a secure wireless communication system, in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers. The security of the communication link is enhanced through cooperative jamming, with the help of multiple jammers. First, a feasibility condition is derived to achieve a positive secrecy rate at the destination. Then, we solve the original secrecy rate maximization problem, which is not convex in terms of power allocation at the jammers. To circumvent this non-convexity, the achievable secrecy rate is approximated for a given power allocation at the jam…
In this paper, we investigate the secrecy performance of stochastic MIMO wireless networks over small-scale $α$-$μ$ fading channels, where both the legitimate receivers and eavesdroppers are distributed with two independent homogeneous Poisson point processes (HPPPs). Specifically, accounting for the presence of non-colluding eavesdroppers, secrecy performance metrics, including the connection outage probability (COP), the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity (PNZ) and ergodic secrecy capacity, are derived regarding the $k$-th nearest/best user cases. The index for the $k$-th nearest user …
We investigate the secrecy capacity of an ergodic fading wiretap channel in which the main channel is correlated with the eavesdropper channel. In this study, the full Channel State Information (CSI) is assumed, and thus the transmitter knows the channel gains of the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper. By analyzing the resulting secrecy capacity we quantify the loss of the secrecy capacity due to the correlation. In addition, we study the asymptotic behavior of the secrecy capacity as Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) tends to infinity. The capacity of an ordinary fading channel logarithmicall…
We consider the secure transmission of information over an ergodic fading channel in the presence of an eavesdropper. Our eavesdropper can be viewed as the wireless counterpart of Wyner's wiretapper. The secrecy capacity of such a system is characterized under the assumption of asymptotically long coherence intervals. We first consider the full Channel State Information (CSI) case, where the transmitter has access to the channel gains of the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper. The secrecy capacity under this full CSI assumption serves as an upper bound for the secrecy capacity when only …
This paper technically explores the secrecy rate $Λ$ and a maximisation problem over the concave version of the secrecy outage probability (SOP) as $\mathop{{\rm \mathbb{M}ax}}\limits_{Δ} {\rm \; } \mathbb{P}\mathscr{r} \big( Λ\ge λ\big) $. We do this from a generic viewpoint even though we use a traditional Wyner's wiretap channel for our system model $-$ something that can be extended to every kind of secrecy modeling and analysis. We consider a Riemannian mani-fold for it and we mathematically define a volume for it as $\mathbb{V}\mathscr{ol}\big \lbrace Λ\big \rbrace$. Through achieving a …
We investigate the problem of common randomness (CR) generation from discrete correlated sources aided by one-way communication over single-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) slow fading channels with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), arbitrary state distribution and with channel state information available at the receiver side (CSIR). We completely solve the problem by first characterizing the channel outage capacity of MIMO slow fading channels for arbitrary state distribution. For this purpose, we also provide an achievable rate for a specific compound MIMO Gaussian channel. Sec…
We propose a simple and accurate method to evaluate the outage probability at the output of arbitrarily fading L-branch diversity combining receiver. The method is based on the saddlepoint approximation, which only requires the knowledge of the moment generating functions of the signal-to-noise ratio at the output of each diversity branch. In addition, we show that the obtained results reduce to closed-form expressions in many particular cases of practical interest. Numerical results illustrate a very high accuracy of the proposed method for practical outage values and for a large mixture of f…
We consider a block fading wiretap channel, where a transmitter attempts to send messages securely to a receiver in the presence of a hybrid half-duplex adversary, which arbitrarily decides to either jam or eavesdrop the transmitter-to- receiver channel. We provide bounds to the secrecy capacity for various possibilities on receiver feedback and show special cases where the bounds are tight. We show that, without any feedback from the receiver, the secrecy capacity is zero if the transmitter-to-adversary channel stochastically dominates the effective transmitter-to-receiver channel. However, t…
We investigate the secure communications over correlated wiretap Rayleigh fading channels assuming the full channel state information (CSI) available. Based on the information theoretic formulation, we derive closed-form expressions for the average secrecy capacity and the outage probability. Simulation results confirm our analytical expressions.
The parallel fading channel, which consists of finite number of subchannels, is very important, because it can be used to formulate many practical communication systems. The outage probability, on the other hand, is widely used to analyze the relationship among the communication efficiency, reliability, SNR, and channel fading. To the best of our knowledge, the previous works only studied the asymptotic outage performance of the parallel fading channel which are only valid for a large number of subchannels or high SNRs. In this paper, a unified performance metric, which we shall refer to as th…
This letter studies parallel independent Gaussian channels with uncertain eavesdropper channel state information (CSI). Firstly, we evaluate the probability of zero secrecy rate in this system for (i) given instantaneous channel conditions and (ii) a Rayleigh fading scenario. Secondly, when non-zero secrecy is achievable in the low SNR regime, we aim to solve a robust power allocation problem which minimizes the outage probability at a target secrecy rate. We bound the outage probability and obtain a linear fractional program that takes into account the uncertainty in eavesdropper CSI while al…
We design a new secure transmission scheme in the relay wiretap channel where a source communicates with a destination through a decode-and-forward relay in the presence of spatially random-distributed eavesdroppers. For the sake of practicality, we consider a general antenna configuration in which the source, relay, destination, and eavesdroppers are equipped with multiple antennas. In order to confuse the eavesdroppers, we assume that both the source and the relay transmit artificial noise signals in addition to information signals. We first derive a closed-form expression for the transmissi…
The outage probability limit is a fundamental and achievable lower bound on the word error rate of coded communication systems affected by fading. This limit is mainly determined by two parameters: the diversity order and the coding gain. With linear precoding, full diversity on a block fading channel can be achieved without error-correcting code. However, the effect of precoding on the coding gain is not well known, mainly due to the complicated expression of the outage probability. Using a geometric approach, this paper establishes simple upper bounds on the outage probability, the minimizat…
This paper studies physical-layer secure transmissions from a transmitter to a legitimate receiver against an eavesdropper over slow fading channels, taking into account the impact of finite blocklength secrecy coding. A comprehensive analysis and optimization framework is established to investigate secrecy throughput for both single- and multi-antenna transmitter scenarios. Both adaptive and non-adaptive design schemes are devised, in which the secrecy throughput is maximized by exploiting the instantaneous and statistical channel state information of the legitimate receiver, respectively. Sp…
We consider a Gaussian MISO wiretap channel, where a multi-antenna source communicates with a single-antenna destination in the presence of a single-antenna eavesdropper. The communication is assisted by multi-antenna helpers that act as jammers to the eavesdropper. Each helper independently transmits noise which lies in the null space of the channel to the destination, thus creates no interference to the destination. Under the assumption that there is eavesdropper channel uncertainty, we derive the optimal covariance matrix for the source signal so that the secrecy rate is maximized subject t…
Observing the significance of spectrally-efficient secure non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), this paper proposes a novel quality of service (QoS) aware secure NOMA protocol that maximizes secrecy fairness among untrusted users. Considering a base station (BS) and two users, a novel decoding order is designed that provides security to both users. With the objective of ensuring secrecy fairness between users, while satisfying their QoS requirements under BS transmit power budget constraint, we explore the problem of minimizing the maximum secrecy outage probability (SOP). Closed-form express…
We study analogue source transmission over MIMO block-fading channels with receiver-only channel state information. Unlike previous work which considers the end-to-end expected distortion as a figure of merit, we study the distortion outage probability. We first consider the well known transmitter informed bound, which yields a benchmark lower bound to the distortion outage probability of any coding scheme. We next compare the results with source-channel separation. The key difference from the expected distortion approach is that if the channel code rate is chosen appropriately, source-channel…
We consider the multi-antenna wiretap channel in which the transmitter wishes to send a confidential message to its receiver while keeping it secret to the eavesdropper. It has been known that the secrecy capacity of such a channel does not increase with signal-to-noise ratio when the transmitter has no channel state information (CSI) under mild conditions. Motivated by Jafar's robust interference alignment technique, we study the so-called staggered multi-antenna block-fading wiretap channel where the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper have different temporal correlation structures. Ass…
This paper analyzes Type I hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) over time-correlated Rayleigh fading channels. Due to the presence of channel time correlation, the analysis is more challenging than the prior analysis in the literature. Outage probability is first derived as a weighted sum of joint CDF of multiple independent Gamma random variables based on an infinite series representation. A truncation method is proposed for efficient computation of the outage probability and it is proved that the truncation error decreases exponentially with the truncation order. Asymptotic outage probabil…
In this correspondence, we propose a tight lower bound to the outage probability of discrete-input Nakagami-m block-fading channels. The approach permits an efficient method for numerical evaluation of the bound, providing an additional tool for system design. The optimal rate-diversity trade-off for the Nakagami-m block-fading channel is also derived and a tight upper bound is obtained for the optimal coding gain constant.
In this paper, outage performance of hybrid automatic repeat request with incremental redundancy (HARQ-IR) is analyzed. Unlike prior analyses, time-correlated Nakagami-$m$ fading channel is considered. The outage analysis thus involves the probability distribution analysis of a product of multiple correlated shifted Gamma random variables and is more challenging than prior analyses. Based on the finding of the conditional independence of the received signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), the outage probability is exactly derived by using conditional Mellin transform. Specifically, the outage probabil…
We study the physical-layer security of a multiple source-destination (SD) pairs coexisting wireless network in the face of an eavesdropper, where an eavesdropper intends to wiretap the signal transmitted by the SD pairs. In order to protect the wireless transmission against eavesdropping, we propose a cooperation framework relying on two stages. Specifically, an SD pair is selected to access the total allocated spectrum using an appropriately designed scheme at the beginning of the first stage. The other source nodes (SNs) simultaneously transmit their data to the SN of the above-mentioned SD…
