In this work we address the problem of predicting the model of a camera based on the content of their photographs. We use two set of features, one set consist in properties extracted from a Discrete Wavelet Domain (DWD) obtained by applying a 4 level Fast Wavelet Decomposition of the images, and a second set are Local Binary Patterns (LBP) features from the after filter noise of images. The algorithms used for classification were Logistic regression, K-NN and Artificial Neural Networks

We propose a novel lossless and lossy compression scheme for color filter array~(CFA) sampled images based on the wavelet transform of them. Our analysis suggests that the wavelet coefficients of HL and LH subbands are highly correlated. Hence, we decorrelate Mallat wavelet packet decomposition to further sparsify the coefficients. In addition, we develop a camera processing pipeline for compressing CFA sampled images aimed at maximizing the quality of the color images constructed from the compressed CFA sampled images. We validated our theoretical analysis and the performance of the proposed …
Video surveillance has become ubiquitous in the modern world. Mobile devices, surveillance cameras, and IoT devices, all can record video that can violate our privacy. One proposed solution for this is privacy-preserving video, which removes identifying information from the video as it is produced. Several algorithms for this have been proposed, but all of them suffer from scale issues: in order to sufficiently anonymize near-camera objects, distant objects become unidentifiable. In this paper, we propose a scale-invariant method, based on wavelet decomposition.
As the revolutionary improvement being made on the performance of smartphones over the last decade, mobile photography becomes one of the most common practices among the majority of smartphone users. However, due to the limited size of camera sensors on phone, the photographed image is still visually distinct to the one taken by the digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera. To narrow this performance gap, one is to redesign the camera image signal processor (ISP) to improve the image quality. Owing to the rapid rise of deep learning, recent works resort to the deep convolutional neural network…

When smartphone cameras are used to take photos of digital screens, usually moire patterns result, severely degrading photo quality. In this paper, we design a wavelet-based dual-branch network (WDNet) with a spatial attention mechanism for image demoireing. Existing image restoration methods working in the RGB domain have difficulty in distinguishing moire patterns from true scene texture. Unlike these methods, our network removes moire patterns in the wavelet domain to separate the frequencies of moire patterns from the image content. The network combines dense convolution modules and dilate…

We present a novel method for predicting accurate depths from monocular images with high efficiency. This optimal efficiency is achieved by exploiting wavelet decomposition, which is integrated in a fully differentiable encoder-decoder architecture. We demonstrate that we can reconstruct high-fidelity depth maps by predicting sparse wavelet coefficients. In contrast with previous works, we show that wavelet coefficients can be learned without direct supervision on coefficients. Instead we supervise only the final depth image that is reconstructed through the inverse wavelet transform. We addit…
In this paper offers a simple and lossless compression method for compression of medical images. Method is based on wavelet decomposition of the medical images followed by the correlation analysis of coefficients. The correlation analyses are the basis of prediction equation for each sub band. Predictor variable selection is performed through coefficient graphic method to avoid multicollinearity problem and to achieve high prediction accuracy and compression rate. The method is applied on MRI and CT images. Results show that the proposed approach gives a high compression rate for MRI and CT im…
Every change of trend in the forex market presents a great opportunity as well as a risk for investors. Accurate forecasting of forex prices is a crucial element in any effective hedging or speculation strategy. However, the complex nature of the forex market makes the predicting problem challenging, which has prompted extensive research from various academic disciplines. In this paper, a novel approach that integrates the wavelet denoising, Attention-based Recurrent Neural Network (ARNN), and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) are proposed. Wavelet transform removes the noise fr…
Light field cameras provide intriguing possibilities, such as post-capture refocus or the ability to synthesize images from novel viewpoints. This comes, however, at the price of significant storage requirements. Compression techniques can be used to reduce these but refocusing and reconstruction require so far again a dense pixel representation. To avoid this, we introduce local Fourier slice photography that allows for refocused image reconstruction directly from a sparse wavelet representation of a light field, either to obtain an image or a compressed representation of it. The result is ma…

JPEG is one of the widely used lossy compression methods. JPEG-compressed images usually suffer from compression artifacts including blocking and blurring, especially at low bit-rates. Soft decoding is an effective solution to improve the quality of compressed images without changing codec or introducing extra coding bits. Inspired by the excellent performance of the deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) on both low-level and high-level computer vision problems, we develop a dual pixel-wavelet domain deep CNNs-based soft decoding network for JPEG-compressed images, namely DPW-SDNet. The pi…

Monitoring the health of ancient artworks requires adequate prudence because of the sensitive nature of these materials. Classical techniques for identifying the development of faults rely on acoustic testing. These techniques, being invasive, may result in causing permanent damage to the material, especially if the material is inspected periodically. Non destructive testing has been carried out for different materials since long. In this regard, non-invasive systems were developed based on infrared thermometry principle to identify the faults in artworks. The test artwork is heated and the th…
Under-display camera (UDC) is a novel technology that can make digital imaging experience in handheld devices seamless by providing large screen-to-body ratio. UDC images are severely degraded owing to their positioning under a display screen. This work addresses the restoration of images degraded as a result of UDC imaging. Two different networks are proposed for the restoration of images taken with two types of UDC technologies. The first method uses a pyramidal dilated convolution within a wavelet decomposed convolutional neural network for pentile-organic LED (P-OLED) based display system.…
A variety of new and powerful algorithms have been developed for image compression over the years. Among them the wavelet-based image compression schemes have gained much popularity due to their overlapping nature which reduces the blocking artifacts that are common phenomena in JPEG compression and multiresolution character which leads to superior energy compaction with high quality reconstructed images. This paper provides a detailed survey on some of the popular wavelet coding techniques such as the Embedded Zerotree Wavelet (EZW) coding, Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Tree (SPIHT) coding…

With the rapid development of whole brain imaging technology, a large number of brain images have been produced, which puts forward a great demand for efficient brain image compression methods. At present, the most commonly used compression methods are all based on 3-D wavelet transform, such as JP3D. However, traditional 3-D wavelet transforms are designed manually with certain assumptions on the signal, but brain images are not as ideal as assumed. What's more, they are not directly optimized for compression task. In order to solve these problems, we propose a trainable 3-D wavelet transform…

Robotic-assisted surgeries benefit both surgeons and patients, however, surgeons frequently need to adjust the endoscopic camera to achieve good viewpoints. Simultaneously controlling the camera and the surgical instruments is impossible, and consequentially, these camera adjustments repeatedly interrupt the surgery. Autonomous camera control could help overcome this challenge, but most existing systems are reactive, e.g., by having the camera follow the surgical instruments. We propose a predictive approach for anticipating when camera movements will occur using artificial neural networks. We…
The task of recalibrating the illumination settings in an image to a target configuration is known as relighting. Relighting techniques have potential applications in digital photography, gaming industry and in augmented reality. In this paper, we address the one-to-one relighting problem where an image at a target illumination settings is predicted given an input image with specific illumination conditions. To this end, we propose a wavelet decomposed RelightNet called WDRN which is a novel encoder-decoder network employing wavelet based decomposition followed by convolution layers under a mu…
Monocular depth predictors are typically trained on large-scale training sets which are naturally biased w.r.t the distribution of camera poses. As a result, trained predictors fail to make reliable depth predictions for testing examples captured under uncommon camera poses. To address this issue, we propose two novel techniques that exploit the camera pose during training and prediction. First, we introduce a simple perspective-aware data augmentation that synthesizes new training examples with more diverse views by perturbing the existing ones in a geometrically consistent manner. Second, we…
Fractal image compression, Culik's image compression and zerotree prediction coding of wavelet image decomposition coefficients succeed only because typical images being compressed possess a significant degree of self-similarity. Besides the common concept, these methods turn out to be even more tightly related, to the point of algorithmical reducibility of one technique to another. The goal of the present paper is to demonstrate these relations. The paper offers a plain-term interpretation of Culik's image compression, in regular image processing terms, without resorting to finite state machi…
Multiview super-resolution image reconstruction (SRIR) is often cast as a resampling problem by merging non-redundant data from multiple low-resolution (LR) images on a finer high-resolution (HR) grid, while inverting the effect of the camera point spread function (PSF). One main problem with multiview methods is that resampling from nonuniform samples (provided by LR images) and the inversion of the PSF are highly nonlinear and ill-posed problems. Non-linearity and ill-posedness are typically overcome by linearization and regularization, often through an iterative optimization process, which …
