Leptonic CP Violating Phase $ δ_{CP} $ in the light neutrino sector and leptogenesis via present matter antimatter asymmetry of the Universe entails each other. Probing CP violation in light neutrino oscillation is one of the challenging tasks today. The reactor mixing angle $ θ_{13} $ measured in reactor experiments, LBL, DUNE with high precision in neutrino experiments indicates towards the vast dimension of scope to detect $ δ_{CP} $. The correlation between leptonic Dirac CPV phase $ δ_{CP} $, reactor mixing angle $ θ_{13} $, lightest neutrino mass $ m_{1} $ and matter antimatter asymmetry of the Universe within the framework of $ μ-τ$ symmetry breaking assuming the type I seesaw dominance is extensively studied here. Small tiny breaking of the $ μ-τ$ symmetry allows a large Dirac CP violating phase in neutrino oscillation which in turn is characterised by awareness of measured value of $ θ_{13} $ and to provide a hint towards a better understanding of the experimentally observed near maximal value of $ ν_μ -ν_τ $ mixing angle $ θ_{23}\simeq \fracπ{4}$. Precise breaking of the $ μ-τ$ symmetry is achieved by adding a 120 plet Higgs to the 10 $+$ $\bar{126}$ dimensional representation of Higgs. The estimated three dimensional density parameter space of lightest neutrino mass $ m_{1} $, $ δ_{CP} $, reactor mixing angle $ θ_{13} $, is constrained here for the requirement of producing the observed value of baryon asymmetry of the Universe through the mechanism of leptogenesis. Carrying out numerical analysis the allowed parameter space of $ m_{1} $, $ δ_{CP} $, $ θ_{13} $, is found out which can produce the observed baryon to photon density ratio of the Universe.
If the baryon asymmetry in the present universe is generated by decays of the $L H_u$ flat direction, the observed baryon asymmetry requires the mass of the lightest neutrino to be much smaller than the mass scale indicated from the atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations. Such a small mass of the lightest neutrino leads to a high predictability on the rate of the neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay. In this letter we show general predictions on the $0νββ$ decay in the leptogenesis via the $LH_u$ flat direction.
We assume that neutrinoless double beta decay is caused by the exchange of three light Majorana neutrinos. Under this assumption, we obtain, by the method of perturbation, the equation representing the isocontour of effective Majorana mass which is the function of two CP-violating Majorana phases. The equation representing the isocontour (constraint equation between two Majorana phases) is expressed analytically by six parameters: two lepton mixing angles, two kinds of neutrino mass squared differences, lightest neutrino mass scale, and the effective Majorana mass. We discuss how the constrain…
We perform a study of neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay mediated by the lightest neutralino of arbitrary mass in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) under the presence of R-parity violating trilinear interactions. In this scenario, the exchange of the lightest neutralino can result in $0νββ$ decay of either long-range or short-range behaviour, depending on the neutralino mass. Using nuclear matrix elements calculated in the Interacting Boson Model, we use an interpolation between the long- and short-range behaviours with an approximate formula. The non-observation of $0νββ$ …
A brief overview is given of theoretical analyses with neutrinoless double beta decay experiments. Theoretical bounds on the ``observable'', <m>_betabeta, are presented. By using experimental bounds on <m>_betabeta, allowed regions are obtained on the m_l-cos{2theta_12} plane, where m_l stands for the lightest neutrino mass. It is shown that Majorana neutrinos can be excluded by combining possible results of future neutrinoless double beta decay and {}^3H beta decay experiments. A possibility to constrain one of two Majorana phases is discussed also.
In the framework of the see-saw mechanism the normal hierarchy is favorable for the neutrino mass spectrum. For this spectrum we present a detailed calculation of the half-lives of neutrinoless double beta decay for several nuclei of experimental interest. The half-lives are evaluated by considering the most comprehensive nuclear matrix elements, which were obtained within the renormalized QRPA by the Bratislava-Caltech-Tuebingen group. The dependence of the half-lives on sin^2 theta_{13}$ and the lightest neutrino mass is studied. We present also the results of the calculations of the half-li…
Minimal SO(10) grand unified models provide phenomenological predictions for neutrino mass patterns and mixing. These are the outcome of the interplay of several features, namely: i) the seesaw mechanism; ii) the presence of an intermediate scale where B-L gauge symmetry is broken and the right-handed neutrinos acquire a Majorana mass; iii) a symmetric Dirac neutrino mass matrix whose pattern is close to the up-type quark one. In this framework two natural characteristics emerge. Normal neutrino mass hierarchy is the only allowed, and there is an approximate relation involving both light-neutr…
The probability distribution for the effective Majorana mass as a function of the lightest neutrino mass in the standard three neutrino scheme is computed via a random sampling from the distributions of the involved mixing angles and squared mass diffences. A flat distribution in the [0,2pi] range for the Majorana phases is assumed, and the dependence of small values of the effective mass on the Majorana phases is highlighted. The study is then extended with the addition of the cosmological bound on the sum of the neutrino masses. Finally, the prospects for neutrinoless double beta decay searc…
By requiring the lower limit for the lightest right-handed neutrino mass, obtained in the baryogenesis from leptogenesis scenario, and a Dirac neutrino mass matrix similar to the up-quark mass matrix we predict small values for the $ν_e$ mass and for the matrix element $m_{ee}$ responsible of the neutrinoless double beta decay, $m_{ν_e}$ around $5\cdot10^{-3}$ eV and $m_{ee}$ smaller than $ 10^{-3}$ eV, respectively. The allowed range for the mass of the heaviest right-handed neutrino is centered around the value of the scale of B - L breaking in the SO(10) gauge theory with Pati-Salam interme…
In this proceeding we present predictions of the effective Majorana mass $|m_{ββ}|$ in neutrinoless double-$β$ decay for the standard $3ν$ mixing case and for the 3+1 neutrino mixing case indicated by the short-baseline anomalies. We have taken into account the uncertainties of the neutrino mixing parameters determined by oscillation experiments. We obtained that the predictions for $|m_{ββ}|$ in the cases of $3ν$ and 3+1 mixing are quite different, in agreement with previous discussions in the literature, and that future measurements of neutrinoless double-$β$ decay and the total mass of the …
The first data released by the KamLAND collaboration have confirmed the strong evidence in favour of the LMA solution of the solar neutrino problem. Taking into account the ranges for the oscillation parameters allowed by the global analysis of the solar, CHOOZ and KamLAND data, we update the limits on the neutrinoless double beta decay effective neutrino mass parameter and analyze the impact of all the available data from neutrinoless double beta decay experiments on the neutrino mass bounds, in view of the latest WMAP results. For the normal neutrino mass spectrum the range (0.05-0.23) eV is…
The lower and upper bounds on the neutrinoless double beta (0nu-2beta) decay rate are obtained, as functions of the parameters of neutrino oscillations and of the lightest neutrino mass. The constraints on these parameters from the search for the 0nu-2beta transition, as well as from the interpretation of solar and atmospheric neutrino data in terms of oscillations, can be conveniently represented in one unitarity triangle. This representation helps to clarify the cases when the 0nu-2beta rate is small; the crucial dependence on the scenarios assumed for solar neutrino oscillations and on the …
We have studied neutrinoless double beta decay and charged lepton flavour violation in broken $μ-τ$ symmetric neutrino masses in a generic left-right symmetric model (LRSM). The leading order $μ-τ$ symmetric mass matrix originates from the type I (II) seesaw mechanism, whereas the perturbations to $μ-τ$ symmetry in order for generation of non-zero reactor mixing angle $θ_{13}$, as required by latest neutrino oscillation data, originates from the type II (I) seesaw mechanism. In our work, we considered four different realizations of $μ-τ$ symmetry, viz. Tribimaximal Mixing (TBM), Bimaximal Mixi…
We demonstrate how a class of non-supersymmetric $SO(10)$ GUT with asymmetric left-right theory $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_R \times U(1)_{B-L} \times SU(3)_C$ and Pati-Salam theory $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R \times SU(4)_C$ as intermediate symmetry breaking steps leads to successful gauge coupling unification satisfying proton decay constraints. The motivation behind this work is two fold: firstly to study the renormalization group evolution equations for gauge couplings by keeping right-handed neutral gauge boson $Z_R$ around LHC energy range leading interesting dilepton searches at collider while fix…
Assuming 3-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos, we analyze the possibility of establishing the existence of CP-violation associated with Majorana neutrinos in the lepton sector i) by measuring of the effective Majorana mass |<m>| in neutrinoless double beta-decay with a sufficient precision and ii) by measuring of, or obtaining a stringent upper limit on, the lightest neutrino mass m1. Information on m1 can be obtained in the tritium beta decay experiment KATRIN and from astrophysical and cosmological observations. Proving that the indicated CP-violation takes place requires, in par…
If the present or upcoming searches for neutrinoless double beta decay give a positive result, the Majorana nature of massive neutrinos will be established. From the determination of the value of the effective Majorana mass parameter |<m>|, it would be possible to obtain information on the type of neutrino mass spectrum. Assuming 3-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos, we discuss the information a measurement of, or an upper bound on, |<m>| can provide on the value of the lightest neutrino mass m1. With additional data on the neutrino masses obtained in tritium beta decay experiments…
We present a detailed discussion on neutrinoless double beta decay within a class of left-right symmetric models where neutrino mass originates by natural type-II seesaw dominance. The spontaneous symmetry breaking is implemented with doublets, triplets and bidoublet scalars. The fermion sector is extended with an extra sterile neutrino per generation that helps in implementing the seesaw mechanism. The presence of extra particles in the model exactly cancels type-I seesaw and allows large value for Dirac neutrino mass matrix $M_D$. The key feature of this work is that all the physical masses …
Recent neutrino experiment results show a preference for the normal neutrino mass ordering. The global efforts to search for neutrinoless double beta decays undergo a broad gap with the approach to the prediction in the three-neutrino framework based on the normal ordering. This research is intended to show that it is possible to find a neutrinoless double beta decay signal even with normal ordered neutrino masses. We propose the existence of a light sterile neutrino as a solution to the higher effective mass of the electron neutrino expected by the current experiments. A few short-baseline os…
If future neutrino oscillation experiments show that the neutrino mass spectrum is with normal ordering, m1 < m2 < m3, and the searches for neutrinoless double beta-decay with sensitivity to values of the effective Majorana mass |<m>| > 0.01 eV give negative results, the next frontier in the quest for neutrinoless double beta-decay will correspond to |<m>| ~ 0.001 eV. Assuming that massive neutrinos are Majorana particles and their exchange is the dominant mechanism generating neutrinoless double beta-decay, we analise the conditions under which |<m>|, in the case of three neutrino mixing and …
We evaluate the contribution to $N_{\rm eff}$ of the extra sterile states in low-scale Type I seesaw models (with three extra sterile states). We explore the full parameter space and find that at least two of the heavy states always reach thermalisation in the Early Universe, while the third one might not thermalise provided the lightest neutrino mass is below ${\mathcal O}(10^{-3}$eV). Constraints from cosmology therefore severely restrict the spectra of heavy states in the range 1eV- 100 MeV. The implications for neutrinoless double beta decay are also discussed.
In this paper, we emphasize why it is important for future neutrinoless double-beta ($0νββ$) decay experiments to reach the sensitivity to the effective neutrino mass $|m^{}_{ββ}| \approx 1~{\rm meV}$. Assuming such a sensitivity and the precisions on neutrino oscillation parameters after the JUNO experiment, we fully explore the constrained regions of the lightest neutrino mass $m^{}_1$ and two Majorana-type CP-violating phases $\{ρ, σ\}$. The implications for the neutrino mass spectrum, the effective neutrino mass $m^{}_β$ in beta decays and the sum of three neutrino masses $Σ\equiv m^{}_1 +…
We evaluate the discovery probability of a combined analysis of proposed neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments in a scenario with normal ordered neutrino masses. The discovery probability strongly depends on the value of the lightest neutrino mass, ranging from zero in case of vanishing masses and up to 80-90\% for values just below the current constraints. We study the discovery probability in different scenarios, focusing on the exciting prospect in which cosmological surveys will measure the sum of neutrino masses. Uncertainties in nuclear matrix element calculations partially compensa…
We calculate basis-space converged neutrinoless $ββ$ decay nuclear matrix elements for the lightest candidates: 48Ca, 76Ge and 82Se. Starting from initial two- and three-nucleon forces, we apply the ab initio in-medium similarity renormalization group to construct valence-space Hamiltonians and consistently transformed $ββ$-decay operators. We find that the tensor component is non-negligible in 76Ge and 82Se, and resulting nuclear matrix elements are overall 25-45% smaller than those obtained from the phenomenological shell model. While a final matrix element with uncertainties still requires …
In some classes of flavour models based on unified theories with a type I see-saw mechanism, the prediction for the mass of the lightest right-handed neutrino is in conflict with the lower bound from the requirement of successful thermal leptogenesis. We investigate how lifting the absolute neutrino mass scale by adding a type II see-saw contribution proportional to the unit matrix can solve this problem. Generically, lifting the neutrino mass scale increases the prediction for the mass of the lightest right-handed neutrino while the decay asymmetry is enhanced and washout effects are reduced,…
To quantitatively assess the impact of an eV-mass sterile neutrino on the neutrinoless double-beta ($0νββ$) decays, we calculate the posterior probability distribution of the relevant effective neutrino mass $|m^\prime_{ee}|$ in the (3+1)$ν$ mixing scenario, following the Bayesian statistical approach. The latest global-fit analysis of neutrino oscillation data, the cosmological bound on the sum of three active neutrino masses from {\it Planck}, and the constraints from current $0νββ$ decay experiments are taken into account in our calculations. Based on the resultant posterior distributions, …
We present accurate predictions of the effective Majorana mass $|m_{ββ}|$ in neutrinoless double-$β$ decay in the standard case of $3ν$ mixing and in the case of 3+1 neutrino mixing indicated by the reactor, Gallium and LSND anomalies. We have taken into account the uncertainties of the neutrino mixing parameters determined by oscillation experiments. It is shown that the predictions for $|m_{ββ}|$ in the cases of $3ν$ and 3+1 mixing are quite different, in agreement with previous discussions in the literature, and that future measurements of neutrinoless double-$β$ decay and of the effective …
We derive the lower bound on the absolute scale of lightest neutrino mass for normal hierarchy and inverted hierarchy pattern of light neutrinos by studying the new physics contributions to charged lepton flavour violations in the framework of a TeV scale left-right symmetric model. In the model, the fermion sector comprises the usual quarks and leptons plus a fermion singlet per generation and the scalar sector consists of isospin doublets, triplets and a bidoublet. The framework allows large light-heavy neutrino mixing where the light neutrino mass formula is governed by a natural type-II se…
Assuming that the lightest neutrino mass $ m_0 $ is measured, we study the influence of error of the measured $ m_0 $ on the uncertainty of the predicted value of the neutrinoless double beta decay ($0 \, νββ$) effective Majorana mass $ \vert m_{ee} \vert $. The error of the predicted value of effective Majorana mass $ σ( \vert m_{ee} \vert ) $ due to the error $ σ(m_0) $ is obtained by use of the propagation of errors. We investigate in detail how $ σ( \vert m_{ee} \vert ) $ behaves when the Majorana phases $ β$ and $ α$ change, and also when the size of the lightest neutrino mass changes. It…
Assuming that neutrinos are Majorana particles, we explore what information can be inferred from future strong limits (i.e. non-observation) for neutrinoless double beta decay. Specifically we consider the case where the mass hierarchy is normal and the different contributions to the effective mass $\langle m \rangle_{ee}$ partly cancel. We discuss how this fixes the two Majorana CP phases simultaneously from the Majorana Triangle and how it limits the lightest neutrino mass $m_1$ within a narrow window. The two Majorana CP phases are in this case even better determined than in the usual case …
In the context of the Type I seesaw mechanism, we carry out a systematic study of the constraints that result from zeros in both the Dirac and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrices. We find that most constraints can be expressed in the standard form with one or two element/cofactor zeros alone, while there are 9 classes of nonstandard constraints. We show that all the constraints are stable under one-loop renormalization group running from the lightest right-handed neutrino mass scale to the electroweak scale. We study the predictions of the nonstandard constraints for the lightest neut…
Assuming 3 neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos, we analyze the implications of the results of the solar neutrino experiments, including the latest SNO data, which favor the LMA MSW solution of the solar neutrino problem with \tan^2 θ_sol < 1, for the predictions of the effective Majorana mass |<m>| in neutrinoless double beta decay. For \cos (2 θ_sol) \geq 0.26, which follows from the analysis of the new solar neutrino data, we find significant lower limits on |<m>| in the cases of quasi-degenerate and inverted hierarchy neutrino mass spectrum, |<m>| \geq 0.035 eV and |<m>| \geq 8.5…
Cosmology is making impressive progress and it is producing stringent bounds on the sum of the neutrino masses Σ, a parameter of great importance for the current laboratory experiments. In this letter, we exploit the potential relevance of the analysis of Palanque-Delabrouille et al. [JCAP 1502, 045 (2015)] to the neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ) search. This analysis indicates small values for the lightest neutrino mass, since the authors find Σ < 84 meV at 1σ C. L., and provides a 1σ preference for the normal hierarchy. The allowed values for the Majorana effective mass, probed by 0νββ,…
We derive the lower bound on absolute scale of lightest neutrino mass for normal hierarchy and inverted hierarchy pattern of light neutrinos by studying the new physics contributions to charged lepton flavour violating decays and neutrinoless double beta decay in the framework of a TeV scale left-right symmetric model. Neutrino mass is generated in the model via type-II seesaw dominance with the help of a heavy sterile neutrino. This scenario allows large light-heavy neutrino mixing and the mixing facilitates new channels for neutrinoless double beta decay and lepton flavour violating decays. …
The Bayesian discovery probability of future experiments searching for neutrinoless double-$β$ decay is evaluated under the popular assumption that neutrinos are their own antiparticles. A Bayesian global fit is performed to construct a probability distribution for the effective Majorana mass, the observable of interest for these experiments. This probability distribution is then combined with the sensitivity of each experiment derived from a heuristic counting analysis. The discovery probability is found to be higher than previously considered, but strongly depends on whether the neutrino mas…
Assuming that neutrinos are Majorana particles, in a three generation framework, current and future neutrino oscillation experiments can determine six out of the nine parameters which fully describe the structure of the neutrino mass matrix. We try to clarify the interplay among the remaining parameters, the absolute neutrino mass scale and two CP violating Majorana phases, and how they can be accessed by future neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay experiments, for the normal as well as for the inverted order of the neutrino mass spectrum. Assuming the oscillation parameters to be in the ra…
Neutrino mass sum rules relate the three neutrino masses within generic classes of flavour models, leading to restrictions on the effective mass parameter measured in experiments on neutrinoless double beta decay as a function of the lightest neutrino mass. We perform a comprehensive study of the implications of such neutrino mass sum rules, which provide a link between model building, phenomenology, and experiments. After a careful explanation of how to derive predictions from sum rules, we discuss a large number of examples both numerically, using all three global fits available for the neut…
In this paper we point out that the cosmological baryon asymmetry in our universe is generated almost independently of the reheating temperature $T_R$ in Affleck-Dine leptogenesis and it is determined mainly by the mass of the lightest neutrino, $m_{ν_1}$, in a wide range of the reheating temperature $T_R\simeq 10^5$--$10^{12}$ GeV. The present baryon asymmetry predicts the $m_{ν_1}$ in a narrow region, $m_{ν_1}\simeq (0.3$--$1)\times 10^{-9}$ eV. Such a small mass of the lightest neutrino leads to a high predictability on the mass parameter $m_{ν_e ν_e}$ contributing to the neutrinoless doubl…
We consider the neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay in the so-called $ν$MSM, in which three right-handed neutrinos with masses below the electroweak scale are additionally introduced to the Standard Model. In this model there appear three heavy neutral leptons $N_1$, $N_2$, and $N_3$ corresponding to right-handed neutrinos. It has been known that the lightest one $N_1$ with keV mass, which is a candidate for dark matter, gives a negligible contribution to the $0 νββ$ decay. By contrast, the heavier ones $N_2$ and $N_3$, which are responsible to the seesaw mechanism of neutrino masses and b…
Both neutrinoless double beta decay and leptogenesis require neutrinos to be Majorana fermions. A relation between these two phenomena can be derived once the mechanism of neutrino mass generation is specified. We first derive the constraints on the Majorana phases by minimising the effective neutrino mass in neutrinoless double beta decay with respect to the smallest mass among the light neutrinos. Given these phases, we derive a lower bound on $M_{1}$ (the mass of the lightest of the heavy neutrinos) in the framework of Type-I seesaw mechanism, subject to the constraint that the CP asymmetry…
We study all possible neutrino mass matrices with one zero element and two equal non-zero elements, known as hybrid texture neutrino mass matrices. In the diagonal charged lepton basis, we consider thirty nine such possible cases which are consistent with the latest neutrino data. Using the two constraints on neutrino mass matrix elements imposed by hybrid textures, we numerically evaluate the neutrino parameters like the lightest neutrino mass $m_{\text{lightest}}$, one Dirac CP phase $δ$ and two Majorana CP phases $α, β$ by using the global fit $3σ$ values of three mixing angles and two mass…
We consider a neutrino mass model where all leptonic mixing is induced by a heavy Majorana sector through the seesaw type I mechanism, while the Dirac mass matrices are diagonal. Such a pattern occurs naturally in grand unified theories. Constraints on the parameters of the models are considered and it is shown that a normal neutrino mass hierarchy is preferred. The lightest neutrino mass is typically small, leading to nonobservable rates for neutrinoless double beta decay in the normal hierarchy case.
The connection between the neutrinoless double beta ((ββ)_{0 ν}-) decay effective Majorana mass, |M_{ee}|, and the branching ratios of the decays H^{\pm\pm}\to l^\pm {l'}^\pm, l,{l'}= e,μ, of the doubly charged Higgs boson H^{\pm\pm} is analysed within the Higgs Triplet Model of neutrino mass generation. We work in the version of the model with explicit breaking of the total lepton charge conservation, in which H^{\pm\pm}\to l^\pm {l'}^\pm, l,{l'} = e,μ,τ, are the dominant decay modes of H^{\pm\pm}. It is assumed also that H^{\pm\pm} are relatively light so that they can be produced at LHC and…
Assuming four-neutrino mixing and massive Majorana neutrinos, we study the implications of the neutrino oscillation solutions of the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems, of the results of the LSND experiment and of the constraints on neutrino oscillations, obtained in reactor and accelerator experiments, for the predictions of the effective Majorana mass in neutrinoless double beta (\betabeta-)decay, \meff. All 4-neutrino mass spectra compatible with the existing neutrino mass and oscillation data are considered. The general case of CP-nonconservation is investigated. We have also analyzed…
In this letter we present a model for quarks and leptons based on T7 as flavour symmetry, predicting a canonical mass relation between charged leptons and down-type quarks proposed earlier. Neutrino masses are generated through a Type-I seesaw mechanism, with predicted correlations between the atmospheric mixing angle and neutrino masses. Compatibility with oscillation results lead to lower bounds for the lightest neutrino mass as well as for the neutrinoless double beta decay rates, even for normal neutrino mass hierarchy.
We consider triplet Higgs model with $A_4$ symmetry to generate the neutrino mass matrix. The tribimaximal form of the neutrino mixing matrix can be naturally obtained. Imposing the neutrino oscillation data, we show that 1) both normal and inverted mass hierarchy are allowed, 2) there is a lower bound on the lightest neutrino mass and the effective mass for neutrinoless double beta decay, 3) the non-vanishing $þ_{13}$ can be accommodated by considering small perturbation, 4) $þ_{\rm atm}$ should be very close to $π/4$ even after perturbation. }
The usual see-saw formula is modified by the presence of two Higgs triplets in left-right symmetric theories. The contribution from the left-handed Higgs triplet to the see-saw formula can dominate over the conventional one when the neutrino Dirac mass matrix is identified with the charged lepton or down quark mass matrix. In this case an analytic calculation of the lepton asymmetry, generated by the decay of the lightest right-handed Majorana neutrino, is possible. For typical parameters, the out-of-equilibrium condition for the decay is automatically fulfilled. The baryon asymmetry has the c…
In supersymmetric models, the CP asymmetry produced in the decay of the lightest right-handed neutrino, $\equiv epsilon$, can be written as a function of weak scale parameters. We introduce a way of separating epsilon into contributions from the various weak-scale phases, and study the contribution of potentially measurable neutrino phases to leptogenesis. We find that the Majorana phase phi', which could have observable effects on neutrinoless double beta decay, is important for epsilon unless there are cancellations among phases. If the phase delta can be measured at a neutrino factory, then…
We propose simple scoto-seesaw models to account for dark matter and neutrino masses with spontaneous CP violation. This is achieved with a single horizontal $\mathcal{Z}_8$ discrete symmetry, broken to a residual $\mathcal{Z}_2$ subgroup responsible for stabilizing dark matter. CP is broken spontaneously via the complex vacuum expectation value of a scalar singlet, inducing leptonic CP-violating effects. We find that the imposed $\mathcal{Z}_8$ symmetry pushes the values of the Dirac CP phase and the lightest neutrino mass to ranges already probed by ongoing experiments, so that normal-ordere…
We describe a hybrid model in which the light neutrino mass matrix receives both tree-level seesaw and loop-induced contributions. An additional U(1) gauge symmetry is used to stabilize the lightest right-handed neutrino as the Dark Matter candidate. After fitting the experimental neutrino data, we analyze and correlate the phenomenological consequences of the model, namely its impact on electroweak precision measurements, the Dark Matter relic abundance, lepton flavour violating rare decays and neutrinoless double beta decay. We find that natural realizations of the model characterized by lar…
We discuss the relation between leptogenesis and the MNS phases in the class of see-saw models called light sequential dominance in which the right-handed neutrinos dominate sequentially, with the dominant right-handed neutrino being the lightest one. The heaviest right-handed neutrino then decouples, leaving effectively two right-handed neutrinos. Light sequential dominance is motivated by SO(10) models which predict three right-handed neutrinos. With an approximate Yukawa texture zero in the 11 position there are only two see-saw phases which are simply related to the MNS phase measurable at…
We look for predictive flavour patterns of the effective Majorana neutrino mass matrix that are compatible with current neutrino oscillation data. Our search is based on the assumption that the neutrino mass matrix contains equal elements and a minimal number of parameters, in the flavour basis where the charged lepton mass matrix is diagonal and real. Three unique patterns that can successfully explain neutrino observables at the $3σ$ confidence level with just three physical parameters are presented. Neutrino textures described by four and five parameters are also studied. The predictions fo…
We re-analyze the compatibility of the claimed observation of neutrinoless double beta decay ($0νββ$) in $^{76}$Ge with the new limits on the half-life of $^{136}$Xe from EXO-200 and KamLAND-Zen. Including recent calculations of the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs), we show that while the claim in $^{76}$Ge is still compatible with the individual limits from $^{136}$Xe, it is inconsistent with the KamLAND-Zen+EXO-200 combined limit for all but one NME calculations. After imposing the most stringent upper limit on the sum of light neutrino masses from Planck, we find that the canonical light neut…
We discuss the connection between the origin of neutrino masses and their mixings which arises in a class of scenarios with radiatively induced neutrino masses. In these scenarios, the neutrino mass matrix acquires textures with two entries close to zero in the basis where the charged-lepton mass matrix is diagonal. This results in specific constraints on the neutrino mixing parameters, which leads to the prediction of (i) a normal ordering of neutrino masses with the lightest neutrino mass in the $\sim$ meV range and (ii) testable correlations among the various mixing angles, including a nonz…
