We study loop corrections to scattering amplitudes in the world-volume theory of a probe D3-brane, which is described by the supersymmetric Dirac-Born-Infeld theory. We show that the D3-brane loop superamplitudes can be obtained from the tree-level superamplitudes in the world-volume theory of a probe M5-brane (or D5-brane). The M5-brane theory describes self-interactions of an abelian tensor supermultiplet with $(2,0)$ supersymmetry, and the tree-level superamplitudes are given by a twistor formula. We apply the construction to the maximally-helicity-violating (MHV) amplitudes in the D3-brane theory at one-loop order, which are purely rational terms (except for the four-point amplitude). The results are further confirmed by generalised unitarity methods. Through a supersymmetry reduction on the M5-brane tree-level superamplitudes, we also construct one-loop corrections to the non-supersymmetric D3-brane amplitudes, which agree with the known results in the literature.
We present tree-level $n$-particle on-shell scattering amplitudes of various brane theories with $16$ conserved supercharges. These include the world-volume theory of a probe D3-brane or D5-brane in 10D Minkowski spacetime as well as a probe M5-brane in 11D Minkowski spacetime, which describes self interactions of an abelian tensor supermultiplet with 6D $(2,0)$ supersymmetry. Twistor-string-like formulas are proposed for tree-level scattering amplitudes of all multiplicities for each of these theories. The R symmetry of the D3-brane theory is shown to be $SU(4) \times U(1)$, and the $U(1)$ fa…
To our best knowledge, the leading non-perturbative stringy interaction between an NS brane and a Dp brane remains unknown. We here present the non-perturbative stringy amplitudes for a system of an F-string and a Dp brane and a system of an NS 5 brane and a Dp brane for $0 \le p \le 6$. In either case, the F or NS5 and the Dp are placed parallel at a separation. We obtain the respective amplitudes, starting from the amplitude for a system of a D1 and a D3 for the former and that for a system of a D5 and a D3 system for the latter, based on the IIB S-duality and various T-dualities plus the co…
The dynamics of a probe M5-brane, embedded as a hypersurface in eleven-dimensional Minkowski spacetime, is described by a six-dimensional world-volume theory. This theory has a variety of interesting symmetries some of which are obscure in the Lagrangian formulation of the theory. However, as summarized in this review, an alternative approach is to construct all of its on-shell tree-level scattering amplitudes. This enables understanding all of the symmetries in a satisfying way. This work is dedicated to the memory of Peter Freund.
Recently, it has been observed that the IIB scattering amplitudes are compatible with the standard rules of S-duality. Inspired by this observation, we will find the tree-level S-matrix elements of one Ramond-Ramond and three open strings by imposing this symmetry on the tree-level S-matrix elements of one Kalb-Ramond and three open strings. We also find a SL(2, R) invariant form of the D3-brane effective action containing four gauge fields with derivative corrections that was derived from one-loop level four-point amplitude. Using the expansion of the nonlinear SL(2, R) invariant structures, …
We study the type II string vacua with chiral space-time SUSY constructed as asymmetric orbifolds of torus and $ K3 $ compactifications. Despite the fact that all the D-branes are non-BPS in any chiral SUSY vacua, we show that the relevant non-geometric vacua of asymmetric orbifolds allow rather generally configurations of D-branes which lead to vanishing cylinder amplitudes, implying the bose-fermi cancellation at each mass level of the open string spectrum. After working on simple models of toroidal asymmetric orbifolds, we focus on the asymmetric orbifolds of $ T^2 \times {\cal M} $, where …
We study $(p,q)$ 5-brane webs dual to certain $N$ M5-brane configurations and show that the partition function of these brane webs gives rise to cylindric Schur process with period $N$. This generalizes the previously studied case of period $1$. We also show that open string amplitudes corresponding to these brane webs are captured by the generating function of cylindric plane partitions with profile determined by the boundary conditions imposed on the open string amplitudes.
We continue with the analysis of finite temperature corrections to the Tachyon mass in intersecting branes which was initiated in arxiv:1403.0389. In this paper we extend the computation to the case of intersecting D3-branes by considering a setup of two intersecting branes in flat-space background. A holographic model dual to BCS superconductor consisting of intersecting D8-branes in D4-brane background was proposed in arxiv:1104.2843. The background considered here is a simplified configuration of this dual model. We compute the one-loop Tachyon amplitude in the Yang-Mills approximation and …
We study the open refined topological string amplitudes using the refined topological vertex. We determine the refinement of holonomies necessary to describe the boundary conditions of open amplitudes (which in particular satisfy the required integrality properties). We also derive the refined holonomies using the refined Chern-Simons theory.
At first, we derive a boundary state, associated with a moving D$p$-brane, in the presence of the Kalb-Ramond field and a $U(1)$ gauge potential. Then, from the interaction of such D$p$-branes, we obtain the radiation amplitude for a massless closed string. The behavior of the radiation amplitude for the large distance of the branes will be studied. Our calculations is in the framework of the bosonic string theory.
We apply the boundary state method and operator formalism to obtain tree-level scattering amplitude of the Kalb-Ramond state from a D$p$-brane. The brane has a tangential dynamics, and it has been dressed by the antisymmetric tensor field, a $U(1)$ internal gauge potential and an open string tachyon field. By using the scattering amplitudes we acquire two DBI-like actions corresponding to the target branes. Our calculations are in the framework of the bosonic string theory.
We compute the boundary state corresponding to a fractional D$p$-brane with transverse motion and internal background fields: Kalb-Ramond and a $U(1)$ gauge field. The spacetime has the orbifold structure $\mathbb{R}^{1,5} \times\mathbb{C}^{2}/\mathbb{Z}_{2}$. The calculations are in the superstring theory. Using this boundary state we shall obtain the interaction amplitude between two parallel moving fractional D$p$-branes. We shall extract behavior of the interaction amplitude for large distances of the branes.
String theory on $\text{AdS}_3\times \text{S}^3\times \mathbb{T}^4$ with minimal $k=1$ NS-NS flux can be described in terms of a free field worldsheet theory in the hybrid formalism. We construct various D-branes of this string theory and calculate their associated cylinder amplitudes. We find that these amplitudes match with the cylinder correlators of certain boundary states of the dual symmetric orbifold CFT $\text{Sym}(\mathbb{T}^4)$, thus suggesting a direct correspondence between these boundary conditions. We also show that the disk amplitudes of these D-branes localise to those points i…
The expansions of tree-level amplitudes for one theory into amplitudes for another theory, which have been studied in various recent literatures, exhibit hidden connections between different theories that are invisible in traditional Lagrangian formulism of quantum field theory. In this paper, the general expansion of tree EM (Einstein-Maxwell) amplitudes into KK basis of tree YM (Yang-Mills) amplitudes have been derived by applying the method based on differential operators. The obtained coefficients are shared by the expansion of tree $ϕ^4$ amplitudes into tree BS (bi-adjoint scalar) amplitu…
