In the quest for large-scale quantum computing, networked quantum computers offer a natural path towards scalability. Now that nearest neighbor entanglement has been demonstrated for electron spin qubits in semiconductors, on-chip long distance entanglement brings versatility to connect quantum core units. Here we realize the controlled and coherent transfer of a pair of entangled electron spins, and demonstrate their remote entanglement when separated by a distance of 6 microns. Driven by coherent spin rotations induced by the electron displacement, high-contrast spin quantum interferences are observed and are a signature of the preservation of the entanglement all along the displacement procedure. This work opens the route towards fast on-chip deterministic interconnection of remote quantum bits in semiconductor quantum circuits.
Control of entanglement between qubits at distant quantum processors using a two-qubit gate is an essential function of a scalable, modular implementation of quantum computation. Among the many qubit platforms, spin qubits in silicon quantum dots are promising for large-scale integration along with their nanofabrication capability. However, linking distant silicon quantum processors is challenging as two-qubit gates in spin qubits typically utilize short-range exchange coupling, which is only effective between nearest-neighbor quantum dots. Here we demonstrate a two-qubit gate between spin qub…
Shuttling of single electrons in gate-defined silicon quantum dots is numerically simulated. A minimal gate geometry without explicit tunnel barrier gates is introduced, and used to define a chain of accumulation mode quantum dots, each controlled by a single gate voltage. One-dimensional potentials are derived from a three-dimensional electrostatic model, and used to construct an effective Hamiltonian for efficient simulation. Control pulse sequences are designed by maintaining a fixed adiabaticity, so that different shuttling conditions can be systematically compared. We first use these tool…
In semiconductor spin qubits which typically interact through short-range exchange coupling, shuttling of spin is a practical way to generate quantum operations between distant qubits. Although the exchange is often tunable through voltages applied to gate electrodes, its minimal value can be significantly large, which hinders the applicability of existing shuttling protocols to such devices, requiring a different approach. In this work, we extend our previous results for double- and triple-dot systems, and describe a method for implementing spin shuttling in long chains of quantum dots in a n…
We show that it is possible to employ reservoir engineering to turn two distant and relatively bad cavities into one good cavity with a tunable spontaneous decay rate. As a result, quantum computing schemes, that would otherwise require the shuttling of atomic qubits in and out of an optical resonator, can now be applied to distant quantum dots. To illustrate this we transform a recent proposal to entangle two qubits via the observation of macroscopic fluorescence signals [Metz et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 040503 (2006)] to the electron-spin states of two semiconductor quantum dots. Our scheme…
Quantum entanglement emerges naturally in interacting quantum systems and plays a central role in quantum information processing. Remarkably, it is possible to generate entanglement even in the absence of direct interactions: provided that which path information is erased, weak spin-state dependent light scattering can be used to project two distant spins onto a maximally entangled state upon detection of a single photon. Even though this approach is necessarily probabilistic, successful generation of entanglement is heralded by the photon detection event. Here, we demonstrate heralded quantum…
We theoretically study the non-equilibrium correlations and entanglement between distant semiconductor qubits in a one-dimensional coupled-mechanical-resonator chain. Each qubit is defined by a double quantum dot (DQD) and embedded in a mechanical resonator. The two qubits can be coupled, correlated and entangled through phonon transfer along the resonator chain. We calculate the non-equilibrium correlations and steady-state entanglement at different phonon-phonon coupling rates, and find a maximal steady entanglement induced by a population inversion. The results suggest that highly tunable c…
We describe a protocol to entangle two qubits at a distance by using resonance fluorescence. The scheme makes use of the postselection of large and distinguishable fluorescence signals corresponding to entangled and unentangled qubit states and has the merits of both high success probability and high entanglement fidelity owing to the multiphoton nature. Our result shows that the entanglement generation is robust against photon fluctuations in the fluorescence signals for a wide range of driving fields. We also demonstrate that this new protocol has an average entanglement duration within the …
Quantum entanglement between distant qubits is an important feature of quantum networks. Distribution of entanglement over long distances can be enabled through coherently interfacing qubit pairs via photonic channels. Here, we report the realization of optically generated quantum entanglement between electron spin qubits confined in two distant semiconductor quantum dots. The protocol relies on spin-photon entanglement in the trionic $Λ$-system and quantum erasure of the Raman-photon path. The measurement of a single Raman photon is used to project the spin qubits into a joint quantum state w…
We introduce a modification of the standard entanglement swapping protocol where the generation of entanglement between two distant modes is realized and verified using only local optical measurements. We show, indeed, that a simple condition on the purity of the initial state involving also an ancillary mode is sufficient to guarantee the success of the protocol by local measurements {M. Abdi \textit{et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{109}, 143601 (2012)}]. We apply the proposed protocol to a tripartite optomechanical system where the never interacting mechanical modes become entangled and cer…
It is demonstrated that two distant quantum wells separated by a reservoir with a continuous spectrum can possess bound eigenstates embedded in the continuum. These represent a linear superposition of quantum states localized in the wells. We show that such a state can be isolated in the course of free evolution from any initial state by a null-result measurement in the reservoir. The latter might not be necessary in the many-body case. The resulting superposition is regulated by ratio of couplings between the wells and the reservoir. In particular, one can lock the system in one of the wells …
In this paper, we investigate the generation of continuous variable entanglement between two spatially-separate nanocavities mediated by a coupled resonator optical waveguide in photonic crystals. By solving the exact dynamics of the cavity system coupled to the waveguide, the entanglement and purity of the two-mode cavity state are discussed in detail for the initially separated squeezing inputs. It is found that the stable and pure entangled state of the two distant nanocavities can be achieved with the requirement of only a weak cavity-waveguide coupling when the cavities are resonant with …
We study a simple, effective and robust method for entangling two separate stationary quantum dot spin qubits with high fidelity using multiphoton Gaussian state. The fluorescence signals from the two dots interfere at a beam splitter. The bosonic nature of photons leads, in analogy with the Hong-Ou-Mandel effect, to selective pairing of photon holes (photon absences in the fluorescent signals). As a result, two odd photon number detections at the outgoing beams herald trion entanglement creation, and subsequent reduction of the trions to the spin ground states leads to spin-spin entanglement.…
We propose a protocol for the deterministic generation of entanglement between two ensembles of nuclear spins surrounding two distant quantum dots. The protocol relies on the injection of electrons with definite polarization in each quantum dot and the coherent transfer of electrons from one quantum dot to the other. Computing the exact dynamics for small systems, and using an effective master equation and approximate non-linear equations of motion for larger systems, we are able to confirm that our protocol indeed produces entanglement for both homogeneous and inhomogeneous systems. Last, we …
Scalable quantum networks require the capability to create, store and distribute entanglement among distant nodes (atoms, trapped ions, charge and spin qubits built on quantum dots, etc.) by means of photonic channels. We show how the entanglement between qubits and electromagnetic field modes allows generation of entangled states of remotely located qubits. We present analytical calculations of linear entropy and the density matrix for the entangled qubits for the system described by the Jaynes-Cummings model. We also discuss the influence of decoherence. The presented scheme is able to drive…
Quantum information processing in a modular architecture requires the distribution, stabilization and distillation of entanglement in a qubit network. We present autonomous entanglement stabilization protocols between two superconducting qubits that are coupled to distant cavities. The coupling between cavities is mediated and controlled via a three-wave mixing device that generates either a two-mode squeezed state or a delocalized mode between the remote cavities depending on the pump applied to the mixer. Local drives on the qubits and the cavities steer and maintain the system to the desire…
Entanglement is a vital property of multipartite quantum systems, characterised by the inseparability of quantum states of objects regardless of their spatial separation. Generation of entanglement between increasingly macroscopic and disparate systems is an ongoing effort in quantum science which enables hybrid quantum networks, quantum-enhanced sensing, and probing the fundamental limits of quantum theory. The disparity of hybrid systems and the vulnerability of quantum correlations have thus far hampered the generation of macroscopic hybrid entanglement. Here we demonstrate, for the first t…
We demonstrate a coherent spin shuttle through a GaAs/AlGaAs quadruple-quantum-dot array. Starting with two electrons in a spin-singlet state in the first dot, we shuttle one electron over to either the second, third or fourth dot. We observe that the separated spin-singlet evolves periodically into the $m=0$ spin-triplet and back before it dephases due to nuclear spin noise. We attribute the time evolution to differences in the local Zeeman splitting between the respective dots. With the help of numerical simulations, we analyse and discuss the visibility of the singlet-triplet oscillations a…
Achieving quantum correlations between two distant systems is a desirable feature for quantum networking. In this work, we study a system composed of two quantum emitter-cavity subsystems spatially separated. A mechanical resonator couples to either both quantum emitters or both cavities leading to quantum correlations between both subsystems such as non-local light-matter dressed states and cavity-cavity normal mode splitting. These indirect couplings can be explained by an effective Hamiltonian for large energy detuning between the mechanical resonator and the atoms/cavities. Moreover, it is…
We propose a protocol for state transfer and entanglement generation between two distant spin qubits (sender and receiver) that have different energies. The two qubits are permanently coupled to a far off-resonant spin-chain, and the qubit of the sender is driven by an external field, which provides the energy required to bridge the energy gap between the sender and the receiver. State transfer and entanglement generation are achieved via virtual single-photon and multi-photon transitions to the eigenmodes of the channel.
