The masses and decay widths of charmonium states are studied in the presence of strong magnetic fields. The mixing between the pseudoscalar and vector charmonium states at rest is observed to lead to appreciable negative (positive) shifts in the masses of the pseudoscalar (longitudinal component of the vector) charmonium states in vacuum/hadronic medium in the presence of high magnetic fields. The pseudoscalar and vector charmonium masses in the hadronic medium, calculated in an effective chiral model from the medium changes of a scalar dilaton field, have additional significant modifications due to the mixing effects. The masses of the $D$ and $\bar D$ mesons in the magnetized hadronic matter are calculated within the chiral effective model. The partial decay widths of the vector charmonium state to $D\bar D$ are computed using a field theoretical model for composite hadrons with quark/antiquark constituents, and are compared to the decay widths calculated using an effective hadronic Lagrangian. The effects of the mixing are observed to lead to significant contributions to the masses of the pseusoscalar and vector charmonium states, and an appreciable increase in the decay width $ψ(3770) \rightarrow D\bar D$ at large values of the magnetic fields. These studies of the charmonium states in strong magnetic fields should have observable consequences on the dilepton spectra, as well as on the production of the open charm mesons and the charmonium states in ultra relativistic heavy ion collision experiments.
We study the partial decay widths of the charmonium states ($J/ψ$, $ψ(3686)$, $ψ(3770)$, $χ_{c0}$, $χ_{c2}$) to $D\bar D$ ($D^+D^-$ or $D^0\bar {D^0}$) in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter, in the presence of strong magnetic fields. The in-medium partial decay widths of charmonium states to $D\bar D$ are calculated within a light quark--antiquark pair creation model, namely the $^3P_0$ model, using the in--medium masses of the charmonia as well as $D$ and $\bar D$ mesons in the magnetized nuclear matter obtained within a chiral effective model. The presence of a magnetic field leads to Landau …
We calculate the decay widths of the charmonium states, $J/ψ$, $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)$, to $D\bar D$ pairs, as well as the decay width of $D^* \rightarrow Dπ$, in isospin asymmetric strange hadronic matter, using a field theoretical model for composite hadrons with quark constituents. For this purpose we use the quark antiquark pair creation term of the free Dirac Hamiltonian written in terms of the constituent quark field operators, and use explicit charmonium, $D$, $\bar {D}$, $D^*$ and $π$ states to evaluate the matrix elements for the charmonium as well as $D^*$ decay amplitudes. The mediu…

Using QCD sum rules and chiral SU(3) model, we investigate the effect of temperature, density, strangeness fraction and isospin asymmetric parameter on the shift in masses and decay constants of the pseudoscalar $D$ and $B$ meson in hadronic medium, which consist of nucleons and hyperons. The in-medium properties of $D$ and $B$ mesons within QCD sum rule approach depend upon the quark and gluon condensates. In chiral SU(3) model, quark and gluon condensates are introduced through the explicit symmetry breaking term and the trace anomaly property of the QCD, respectively and are written in term…
The decay widths of the charmonium states to $D\bar D$ in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter in the presence of a magnetic field are studied, using a field theoretical model for composite hadrons with quark/antiquark constituents. The medium modifications of these partial decay widths arise due to the changes in the masses of the decaying charmonium state and the produced $D$ and $\bar D$ mesons in the magnetized hadronic matter, calculated within a chiral effective model. The decay widths are computed using the light quark--antiquark pair creation term of the free Dirac Hamiltonian in terms of…
We study kaon-charmonium and eta-charmonium dissociation reactions. The K-charmonium dissociation and the eta-charmonium dissociation include 27 reactions. Cross sections for the reactions are calculated in the Born approximation, in the quark-interchange mechanism and with a temperature-dependent quark potential. The temperature dependence of peak cross sections of endothermic reactions is linked to the temperature dependence of quark-antiquark relative-motion wave functions, meson masses and the quark potential. Although the eta meson and kaon have similar masses, the energy and temperature …
Meson-charmonium dissociation reactions governed by the quark interchange are studied with temperature-dependent quark potentials. Quark-antiquark relative-motion wave functions and masses of charmonia and charmed mesons are determined by the central spin-independent part of the potentials or by the central spin-independent part and a smeared spin-spin interaction. The prominent temperature dependence of the masses is found. Based on the potentials, the wave functions, and the meson masses, we obtain temperature-dependent cross sections for fifteen pion-charmonium and rho-charmonium dissociati…
The medium modifications of the masses of the charmonium states (J/$ψ$, $ψ$(3686) and $ψ$(3770)) in asymmetric nuclear matter in the presence of strong magnetic fields are studied using an effective chiral model. The mass modifications arise due to medium modifications of the scalar dilaton field, which simulates the gluon condensates of QCD within the effective hadronic model. The effects due to the magnetic field as well as isospin asymmetry are observed to be appreciable at high densities for the charmonium states, which can have consequences, e,g, in the production of the open charm mesons…
The in-medium masses of the lowest S-wave charmonium states (vector meson, $J/ψ$ and pseudoscalar meson, $η_c$) and P-wave charmonium states (scalar, $χ_{c0}$ and axialvector $χ_{c1}$) are investigated in magnetized nuclear matter, within the framework of QCD sum rule approach. These are computed from the medium modifications of the scalar as well as twist--2 gluon condensates, obtained from the medium modifications of a scalar dilaton field, within a chiral effective model. The effects of the magnetic field, isospin asymmetry and density on the masses of these charmonium states have been inve…
We investigate the in-medium masses of $D$ and $\bar{D}$ mesons in the isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter at finite temperatures arising due to the interactions with the nucleons, the scalar isoscalar meson $σ$, and the scalar iso-vector meson $δ$ within a SU(4) model. The in-medium masses of $J/ψ$ and the excited charmonium states ($ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)$) are also calculated in the hot isospin asymmetric nuclear matter in the present investigation. These mass modifications arise due to the interaction of the charmonium states with the gluon condensates of QCD, simulated by a scalar dilaton fi…
The mass modifications of the open charm ($D$ and $D^*$) mesons, and their effects on the decay widths $D^*\rightarrow Dπ$ as well as of the charmonium state, $Ψ(3770)$ to open charm mesons ($Ψ(3770)\rightarrow D\bar D$), are investigated in the presence of strong magnetic fields. These are studied accounting for the mixing of the pseudoscalar ($P$) and vector ($V$) mesons ($D-D^*$, $η_c'-Ψ(3770)$ mixings), with the mixing parameter, $g_{PV}$ of a phenomenological three-point ($PVγ$) vertex interaction determined from the observed radiative decay width of $V\rightarrow Pγ$. For charged $D-D^*$…
In this work, we use the $C^3P_{\,0}$ model to calculate the decay widths of the low lying charmonium $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ states, nominally $J/ψ(1S)$ and $ψ(2S)$, in the following common channels: $ρ\,π$, $ω\,η$, $ω\,η^\prime$, $K^{\ast +}\,K^-$, $K^{\ast 0}\,\bar{K}^0$, $ϕ\,η$, $ϕ\,η^\prime$.
We study the properties of $D$ and $\bar{D}$ mesons in hot isospin asymmetric strange hadronic matter, arising due to their interactions with the hadrons in the hyperonic medium. The interactions of $D$ and $\bar{D}$ mesons with these light hadrons are derived by generalizing the chiral SU(3) model used for the study of hyperonic matter to SU(4). We also study the mass modifications of the charmonium states $J/ψ$, $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)$ in the isospin asymmetric strange hadronic matter at finite temperatures and investigate the possibility of the decay of the charmonium states into $D\bar D$ …
We study the changes in the partial decay widths of excited charmonium states into $D \bar{D}$, when the D meson mass decreases in nuclear matter, taking the internal structure of the hadrons into account. Calculations within the 3P0 model for $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)$ imply that naive estimates of the in-medium widths based only on phase space are grossly exaggerated. Due to nodes in the wave functions, these states may even become narrow at high densities, if the D meson mass is decreased by about 200 MeV. For the $χ$ states, we generally expect stronger modifications of the widths. The releva…
K*-charmonium dissociation reactions in hadronic matter are studied in the Born approximation, in the quark-interchange mechanism, and with a temperature-dependent quark potential. We obtain the temperature dependence of unpolarized cross sections for K*-charmonium dissociation reactions which produce charmed mesons and charmed strange mesons. We use the cross sections for charmonium dissociation in collisions with pion, rho meson, kaon, vector kaon, and eta meson to calculate dissociation rates of charmonium with the five types of mesons. Because of the temperature dependence of the meson mas…
We calculate the in-medium masses of J/$ψ$ and of the excited states of charmonium ($ψ$(3686) and $ψ$(3770)) in isospin asymmetric nuclear matter at finite temperatures. These mass modifications arise due to the interaction of the charmonium states with the gluon condensates of QCD, simulated by a scalar dilaton field introduced to incorporate the broken scale invariance of QCD within an effective chiral model. The change in the mass of J/$ψ$ in the nuclear matter with density is seen to be rather small, as has been shown in the literature by using various approaches, whereas, the masses of th…
We study electromagnetic field effect on charmonium gluon-dissociation in quark-gluon plasma. With the effective Hamiltonian derived from QCD multipole expansion under an external electromagnetic field, we first solve the two-body Schrödinger equation for a pair of charm quarks with mean field potentials for color and electromagnetic interactions and obtain the charmonium binding energies and wave functions, and then calculate the gluon-dissociation cross-section and decay width by taking the color electric and magnetic dipole interactions as perturbations above the mean field and employing Fe…
We study the in-medium masses of the charmonium states $J/ψ$ and $η_{c}$ in the nuclear medium using QCD sum rule approach. These mass modifications arise due to modifications of the scalar and the twist-2 gluon condensates in the hot hadronic matter. The scalar gluon condensate, $<\frac{α_{s}}π G^a_{μν} {G^a}^{μν}>$ and the twist-2 tensorial gluon operator, $<\frac{α_{s}}π G^a_{μσ} {{G^a}_ν}^σ>$ in the nuclear medium are calculated from the medium modification of a scalar dilaton field introduced to incorporate trace anomaly of QCD within the chiral SU(3) model used in the present investigati…
The masses of charmonium states immersed in nuclear matter are calculated in LO QCD and in QCD sum rules. While the mass shift for $J/ψ$ are found to be less than -10 MeV, those for the $χ_{0,1,2}$ and $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)$ are found to be more than -40 MeV. We investigate the feasibility of observing such mass shifts in the future accelerator project at GSI.
We propose the initial single chiral particle emission mechanism, with which the hidden-charm di-kaon decays of higher charmonia and charmonium-like states are studied. Calculating the distributions of differential decay width, we obtain the line shape of the $J/ψK^+$ invariant mass spectrum of $ψ_i\to J/ψK^+K^-$, where $ψ_i=ψ(4415), Y(4660)$, and $ψ(4790)$. Our numerical results show that there exist enhancement structures with both hidden-charm and open-strange decays, which are near the $D\bar{D}_s^*/D^*\bar{D}_s$ and $D^*\bar{D}_s^*/\bar{D}^*{D}_s^*$ thresholds. These charged charmonium-li…
In this paper we investigate the Exotic Charmonium (EC) production in $γγ$ interactions present in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies as well as for the proposed energies of the Future Circular Collider (FCC). Our results demonstrate that the experimental study of these processes is feasible and can be used to constrain the theoretical decay widths and shed some light on the configuration of the considered multiquark states.
Thermal Hilbert moment QCD sum rules are used to obtain the temperature dependence of the hadronic parameters of charmonium in the vector channel, i.e. the $J$ / $ψ$ resonance mass, coupling (leptonic decay constant), total width, and continuum threshold. The continuum threshold $s_0$, which signals the end of the resonance region and the onset of perturbative QCD (PQCD), behaves as in all other hadronic channels, i.e. it decreases with increasing temperature until it reaches the PQCD threshold $s_0 = 4 m_Q^2$, with $m_Q$ the charm quark mass, at $T\simeq 1.22 T_c$. The rest of the hadronic pa…
Although the spectra of heavy quarkonium systems have been successfully explained by certain QCD motivated potential models, their strong decays are still an open problem. We perform a microscopic calculation of vector charmonium strong decays into open-charm mesons where the $q\bar{q}$ pairs are created from the same interquark interactions acting in the quark model that has been used to describe its spectrum, and also its leptonic and radiative decays. We compare the numerical results with those predicted by the $^{3}P_{0}$ decay model and with the available experimental data, and discuss th…
We study vacuum masses of charmonia and the charm-quark diffusion coefficient in the quark-gluon plasma based on the spectral representation for meson correlators. To calculate the correlators, we solve the quark gap equation and the inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation in the rainbow-ladder approximation. It is found that the ground-state masses of charmonia in the pseudoscalar, scalar, and vector channels can be well described. For $1.5\,T_c<T<3.0\,T_c$, the value of the diffusion coefficient $D$ is comparable with that obtained by lattice QCD and experiments: $3.4<2πTD<5.9$. Relating the d…
We calculate the in-medium $D$ meson self-energies in a hot pion gas induced by resonance interactions with pions. The appropriate resonances in the {\it s},~ {\it p} and {\it d} waves of the $D$ meson-pion pair are represented by low lying scalar, vector and tensor $D^*$ mesons. At temperatures around 200 MeV the D-meson mass drops by $30~ \rm {MeV}$ and the scattering width grows up to $60~ \rm {MeV}$. Similar medium effects are found for the $D^*$ vector mesons. This opens and/or enhances the decay and/or dissociation channels of the charmonium states $Ψ^\prime$, $χ_c$ and $J/Ψ$ to $D \bar …
