We study the ground states of low-density hadronic matter and high-density color-flavor locked color superconducting phase in three-flavor QCD at finite baryon chemical potential under rotation. We find that, in both cases under sufficiently fast rotation, the combination of the rotation-induced topological term for the eta' meson and the QCD anomaly leads to an inhomogeneous condensate of the eta' meson, known as the chiral soliton lattice (CSL). We find that, when baryon chemical potential is much larger than isospin chemical potential, the critical angular velocity for the realization of the eta' CSL is much smaller than that for the pi_0 CSL found previously. We also argue that the eta' CSL states in flavor-symmetric QCD at low density and high density should be continuously connected, extending the quark-hadron continuity conjecture in the presence of the rotation.
In this short note we examine the exclusive three-body B --> Lambdabar p eta' decay using a simple pole model involving a scalar intermediate resonance state. Our aim is to test the recently formulated hypothesis that charmless baryonic B decays could occur mainly in association with eta' or gamma.
A chiral soliton lattice (CSL), proposed as the ground state of rotating baryonic matter at a finite density, is shown to be unstable in a large parameter region for two flavors owing to pion condensations, leading to two types of non-Abelian (NA) CSL phases (dimer and deconfining phases). We determine the phase diagram where the dimer phase meets the other phases and QCD vacuum at three tricritical points. The critical angular velocity for NA-CSLs is lower than the $η$-CSL. Each NA soliton carries an isospin, and an antiferro-isospin chain is formed leading to gapless isospinons. The anomalou…
The binding energies of baryonic systems (BS) with baryon number $B=2, 3$ and 4 possessing heavy flavor, charm and bottom, are estimated within the rigid oscillator version of the bound state approach to chiral soliton models. Two tendencies are noted: the binding energy increases with increasing mass of the flavor and with increasing $B$. Therefore, the charmed or bottomed baryonic systems have more chances to be bound than strange baryonic systems discussed previously. The flavor symmetry breaking in decay constants $F$ is considered which is especially important for baryonic systems with bo…
We construct a spherical domain wall which has baryon charge distributed on a sphere of finite radius in a Skyrme model with a sixth order derivative term and a modified mass term. Its distribution of energy density likewise takes the form of a sphere. In order to localize the domain wall at a finite radius we need a negative coefficient in front of the Skyrme term and a positive coefficient of the sixth order derivative term to stabilize the soliton. Increasing the pion mass pronounces the shell-like structure of the configuration.
Analytic arguments and numerical simulations show that bosonic ultra-light dark matter (ULDM) would form cored density distributions (`solitons') at the center of galaxies. ULDM solitons offer a promising way to exclude or detect ULDM by looking for a distinctive feature in the central region of galactic rotation curves. Baryonic contributions to the gravitational potential pose an obstacle to such analyses, being (i) dynamically important in the inner galaxy and (ii) highly non-spherical in rotation-supported galaxies, resulting in non-spherical solitons. We present an algorithm for finding t…
We investigate the properties of baryonic matter within the framework of the in-medium modified chiral soliton model by taking into account the effects of surrounding baryonic environment on the properties of in-medium baryons. The internal parameters of the model are determined based on nuclear phenomenology at nonstrange sector and fitted by reproducing nuclear matter properties near the saturation point. We discuss the equations of state in different nuclear environments such as symmetric nuclear matter, neutron and strange matters. We show that the results for the equations of state are in…
Solitary waves propagation of baryonic density perturbations, ruled by the Korteweg--de Vries equation in a mean-field quark-gluon plasma model, are investigated from the point of view of the theory of information. A recently proposed continuous logarithmic measure of information, called configurational entropy, is used to derive the soliton width, defining the pulse, for which the informational content of the soliton spatial profile is more compressed, in the Shannon's sense.
We study the anomaly induced effects of dense baryonic matter under rotation. We derive the anomalous terms that account for the chiral vortical effect in the low-energy effective theory for light Nambu-Goldstone modes. The anomalous terms lead to new physical consequences, such as the anomalous Hall energy current and spontaneous generation of angular momentum in a magnetic field (or spontaneous magnetization by rotation). In particular, we show that, due to the presence of such anomalous terms, the ground state of the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) under sufficiently fast rotation becomes the …
Mesonic fluctuations around the chiral solitons are investigated in the SU(3) chiral quark soliton model. Since the soliton takes the non-hedgehog shape for the hyperons and the hedgehog one for the non-hedgehog baryons in our approach, the fluctuations also change according to the baryonic state. The quantum corrections to the masses (the Casimir energies) are estimated for the octet and decuplet baryons. The lack of the confinement in this model demands the cutoff on the energy of the fluctuations. Under the assumption that the value of the cutoff energy is $2\times$(the lightest constituent…
We investigate higher baryon-number states in the Chiral Quark Soliton Model using the rational map ansatz for the background chiral fields. The soliton solutions are obtained self-consistently. We show that the baryon number density has point-like symmetries and the corresponding valence quark spectrum of the lowest energy exhibits approximate four-fold degenerate. Our results indicate the possibility of existence of the shell-like structure in the multi-baryonic system.
The Skyrme model provides a novel unified approach to nuclear physics. In this approach, single baryon, baryonic matter and medium-modified hadron properties are treated on the same footing. Intrinsic density dependence (IDD) reflecting the change of vacuum by compressed baryonic matter figures naturally in the approach. In this article, we review the recent progress on accessing dense nuclear matter by putting baryons treated as solitons, namely, skyrmions, on crystal lattice with accents on the implications in compact stars.
The low energy limit of QCD admits (crystals of) superconducting Baryonic tubes at finite density. We begin with the Maxwell-gauged Skyrme model in (3+1)-dimensions (which is the low energy limit of QCD in the leading order of the large N expansion). We construct an ansatz able to reduce the seven coupled field equations in a sector of high Baryonic charge to just one linear Schrodinger-like equation with an effective potential (which can be computed explicitly) periodic in the two spatial directions orthogonal to the axis of the tubes. The solutions represent ordered arrays of Baryonic superc…
We discuss a novel cold dark matter candidate which is formed from the ordinary quarks during the QCD phase transition when the axion domain wall undergoes an unchecked collapse due to the tension in the wall. If a large number of quarks is trapped inside the bulk of a closed axion domain wall, the collapse stops due to the internal Fermi pressure. In this case the system in the bulk, may reach the critical density when it undergoes a phase transition to a color superconducting phase with the ground state being the quark condensate, similar to the Cooper pairs in BCS theory. If this happens, t…
We study baryons in holographic QCD corresponding to 1+1 dimensional single-flavor ($N_f$=1) QCD for the first time. We formulate 1+1 QCD using an $S^1$-compactified D2/D8/$\overline{\rm D8}$ branes in the superstring theory, and describe the baryon as a topological configuration in 1+1 $N_f$=1 QCD, corresponding to $Π_1({\rm U(1)})={\bf Z}$. Unlike 1+3 QCD with $N_f \ge 2$, however, we find that the low-dimensional baryonic soliton is generally unstable against a scale transformation/variation and swells infinitely in 1+1 $N_f$=1 QCD at the leading of large $N_c$. We thus point out a serious …
We study baryonic matter in holographic QCD with D4/D8/\bar{D8} multi-D brane system in type IIA superstring theory. The baryon is described as the "brane-induced Skyrmion", which is a topologically non-trivial chiral soliton in the four-dimensional meson effective action induced by holographic QCD. We employ the "truncated-resonance model" approach for the baryon analysis, including pion and ρmeson fields below the ultraviolet cutoff scale M_KK \sim 1GeV, to keep the holographic duality with QCD. We describe the baryonic matter in large N_c as single brane-induced Skyrmion on the three-dimens…
Holographic QCD at finite baryon number density and zero temperature is studied within the five-dimensional Sakai-Sugimoto model. We introduce a new approximation that models a smeared crystal of solitonic baryons by assuming spatial homogeneity to obtain an effective kink theory in the holographic direction. The kink theory correctly reproduces a first order phase transition to lightly bound nuclear matter. As the density is further increased the kink splits into a pair of half-kink constituents, providing a concrete realization of the previously suggested dyonic salt phase, where the bulk so…
We investigate the electromagnetic mass differences of SU(3) baryons, using an "model-independent approach" within a chiral soliton model. The electromagnetic self-energy corrections to the masses of the baryon are expressed as the baryonic two-point correlation function of the electromagnetic currents. Using the fact that the electromagnetic current can be treated as an octet operator, and considering possible irreducible representations of the correlation function, we are able to construct a general collective operator for the electromagnetic self-energies, which consists of three unknown pa…
In a simple holographic model for QCD in which the Chern-Simons term is incorporated to take into account the QCD chiral anomaly, we show that baryons arise as stable solitons which are the 5D analogs of 4D skyrmions. Contrary to 4D skyrmions and previously considered holographic scenarios, these solitons have sizes larger than the inverse cut-off of the model, and therefore they are predictable within our effective field theory approach. We perform a numerical determination of several static properties of the nucleons and find a satisfactory agreement with data. We also calculate the amplitud…
Chiral solitons with baryon number one are investigated in the Spectral Quark Model. In this model the quark propagator is a superposition of complex-mass propagators weighted with a suitable spectral function. This technique is a method of regularizing the effective quark theory in a way preserving many desired features crucial in analysis of solitons. We review the model in the vacuum sector, stressing the feature of the absence of poles in the quark propagator. We also investigate in detail the analytic structure of meson two-point functions. We provide an appropriate prescription for const…
We investigate parity-violating electroweak asymmetries in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons off protons within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model ($χ$QSM). We use as input the former results of the electromagnetic and strange form factors and newly calculated SU(3) axial-vector form factors, all evaluated with the same set of four parameters adjusted several years ago to general mesonic and baryonic properties. Based on this scheme, which yields positive electric and magnetic strange form factors with a $μ_s=(0.08-0.13)μ_N$, we determine the parity-violating asymmetri…
We find that, when the dilaton is implemented as a (pseudo-)Nambu-Goldstone boson using a conformal compensator or "conformon" in a hidden gauge symmetric Lagrangian written to $O(p^4)$ from which baryons arise as solitons, namely, skyrmions, the vector manifestation and chiral symmetry restoration at high density predicted in hidden local symmetry theory --- which is consistent with Brown-Rho scaling --- are lost or sent to infinite density. It is shown that they can be restored if in medium the behavior of the $ω$ field is taken to deviate from that of the $ρ$ meson in such a way that the fl…
Within the chiral soliton model the SU(3) breaking collective hamiltonian introduces representation mixing in the baryonic wave functions. We calculate ${\cal{O}}(m_s)$ effects of this mixing on the decay widths of decuplet and antidecuplet baryons. We find importance of the 27-plet admixture in the $Θ^+$ and $Ξ_{\bar{10}}$ decays. The role of the $1/N_c$ nonleading terms in ${\cal{O}}(m_s)$ transition matrix elements is discussed.
A stable soliton configuration for a nucleon emerges when the nucleon stability and $Σ_N$ term discrepancy problems are studied semi-quantitatively within a local theory developed recently. The approach developed here goes beyond the mean field or Hartree-Fock approximation by taking into account of the non-perturbative wave function renormalization in a way that is consistent with the chiral Ward-Takahashi identities of QCD. The stability condition for a nucleon and the recently extracted nucleon $Σ_N$ term are used to estimate the radius of the soliton. It is found that 0.67 fm $\le R \le$ 0…
The spectrum of MSSM admits solitons carrying baryonic charge, or B-balls. In an inflationary universe they can be produced in significant numbers by a break-up of a scalar condensate along the flat directions. It is shown that if SUSY breaking is mediated to the observable sector by gravity, B-balls are unstable but decay to baryons and LSPs typically well below the electroweak phase transition. It is argued that B-balls could be the source of most baryons and cold dark matter in the universe, with their number densities related by $n_{LSP}\simeq 3n_{B}$. For B-balls to survive thermalization…
We give a comprehensive review of concepts and numerical calculations for SU(2) and SU(3) baryonic systems which are considered as many body systems composed of three quarks coupled to a polarized Dirac sea by a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio like interaction. The general formalism as well as the construction and numerical solution of non-topological mean field solitons are exhibited. Systems with good spin/flavour/isospin/momentum quantum numbers are obtained by using the SU(2)/SU(3)-cranking and the pushing approach. The article contains also recent results for various extensions of the model, e.g. vec…
This review is devoted to the application of bosonization techniques to two dimensional QCD. We start with a description of the ``abelian bosonization". The methods of the abelian bosonization are applied to several examples like the Thirring model, the Schwinger model and QCD$_2$. The failure of this scheme to handle flavored fermions is explained. Witten's non-abelian bosonization rules are summarized including the generalization to the case of fermions with color and flavor degrees of freedom. We discuss in details the bosonic version of the mass bilinear of colored-flavored fermions in var…
The present manuscript discusses a remarkable phenomenon concerning non-linear and non-integrable field theories in $(3+1)$-dimensions, living at finite density and possessing non-trivial topological charges and non-Abelian internal symmetries (both local and global). With suitable types of ansätze, one can construct infinite-dimensional families of analytic solutions with non-vanishing topological charges (representing the Baryonic number) labelled by both two integers numbers and by free scalar fields in $(1+1)$-dimensions. These exact configurations represent $(3+1)$-dimensional topological…
Modifications of baryon properties due to the restoration of the chiral symmetry in an external hot and dense baryon medium are investigated in an effective chiral quark-meson theory. The nucleon arises as a soliton of the Gell-Mann - Lévi $\zs$-model, the parameters of which are chosen to be the medium-modified meson values evaluated within the Nambu - Jona-Lasinio model. The nucleon properties are obtained by means of variational projection techniques. The nucleon form factors as well as the nucleon delta transition form factors are evaluated for various densities and temperatures of the med…
We study the effects of the CP-breaking topological $θ$-term in the large $N_c$ QCD model by Witten, Sakai and Sugimoto with $N_f$ degenerate light flavors. We first compute the ground state energy density, the topological susceptibility and the masses of the lowest lying mesons, finding agreement with expectations from the QCD chiral effective action. Then, focusing on the $N_f=2$ case, we consider the baryonic sector and determine, to leading order in the small $θ$ regime, the related holographic instantonic soliton solutions. We find that while the baryon spectrum does not receive ${\cal O}…
Axions are some of the best motivated particles beyond the Standard Model. We show how the attractive self-interactions of dark matter (DM) axions over a broad range of masses, from $10^{-22}$ eV to $10^7$ GeV, can lead to nongravitational growth of density fluctuations and the formation of bound objects. This structure formation enhancement is driven by parametric resonance when the initial field misalignment is large, and it affects axion density perturbations on length scales of order the Hubble horizon when the axion field starts oscillating, deep inside the radiation-dominated era. This e…
