Resonant transverse driving of a two-level system as viewed in the rotating frame couples two degenerate states at the Rabi frequency, an amazing equivalence that emerges in quantum mechanics. While spectacularly successful at controlling natural and artificial quantum systems, certain limitations may arise (e.g., the achievable gate speed) due to non-idealities like the counter-rotating term. Here, we explore a complementary approach to quantum control based on non-resonant, non-adiabatic driving of a longitudinal parameter in the presence of a fixed transverse coupling. We introduce a superconducting composite qubit (CQB), formed from two capacitively coupled transmon qubits, which features a small avoided crossing -- smaller than the environmental temperature -- between two energy levels. We control this low-frequency CQB using solely baseband pulses, non-adiabatic transitions, and coherent Landau-Zener interference to achieve fast, high-fidelity, single-qubit operations with Clifford fidelities exceeding $99.7\%$. We also perform coupled qubit operations between two low-frequency CQBs. This work demonstrates that universal non-adiabatic control of low-frequency qubits is feasible using solely baseband pulses.
We propose a scheme for generating SU(2) adiabatic geometric phases in a circuit consisting of three capacitively coupled flux-biased Josephson phase qubits.
It is shown that efficient and robust universal quantum computation is possible using the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage with a qubit chain as a pointer register.
Quantum adiabatic transfer is widely used in quantum computation and quantum simulation. However, the transfer speed is limited by the quantum adiabatic approximation condition, which hinders its application in quantum systems with a short decoherence time. Here we demonstrate quantum adiabatic state transfers that jump along geodesics in one-qubit and two-qubit superconducting transmons. This approach possesses the advantages of speed, robustness, and high fidelity compared with the usual adiabatic process. Our protocol provides feasible strategies for improving state manipulation and gate op…
We propose an approach suitable for solving NP-complete problems via adiabatic quantum computation with an architecture based on a lattice of interacting spins (qubits) driven by locally adjustable effective magnetic fields. Interactions between qubits are assumed constant and instance-independent, programming is done only by changing local magnetic fields. Implementations using qubits coupled by magnetic-, electric-dipole and exchange interactions are discussed.
We discuss the ground state entanglement of a bi-partite system, composed by a qubit strongly interacting with an oscillator mode, as a function of the coupling strenght, the transition frequency and the level asymmetry of the qubit. This is done in the adiabatic regime in which the time evolution of the qubit is much faster than the oscillator one. Within the adiabatic approximation, we obtain a complete characterization of the ground state properties of the system and of its entanglement content.
A simple scheme is presented to generate n-qubit W state with rf-superconducting quantum interference devices (rf-SQUIDs) in cavity QED through adiabatic passage. Because of the achievable strong coupling for rf-SQUID qubits embedded in cavity QED, we can get the desired state with high success probability. Furthermore, the scheme is insensitive to position inaccuracy of the rf-SQUIDs. The numerical simulation shows that, by using present experimental techniques, we can achieve our scheme with very high success probability, and the fidelity could be eventually unity with the help of dissipatio…
Non-adiabatic holonomic quantum gate in decoherence-free subspaces is of greatly practical importance due to its built-in fault tolerance, coherence stabilization virtues, and short run-time. Here we propose some compact schemes to implement two- and three-qubit controlled unitary quantum gates and Fredkin gate. For the controlled unitary quantum gates, the unitary operator acting on the target qubit is an arbitrary single-qubit gate operation. The controlled quantum gates can be directly implemented using non-adiabatic holonomy in decoherence-free subspaces and the required resource for the d…
We study a 2-qubit nuclear spin system for realizing an arbitrary geometric quantum phase gate by means of non-adiabatic operation. A single magnetic pulse with multi harmonic frequencies is applied to manipulate the quantum states of 2-qubit instantly. Using resonant transition approximation, the time dependent Hamiltonian of two nuclear spins can be solved analytically. The time evolution of the wave function is obtained without adiabatic approximation. The parameters of magnetic pulse, such as the frequency, amplitude, phase of each harmonic part as well as the time duration of the pulse, a…
A cluster state cannot be a unique ground state of a two-body interacting Hamiltonian. Here, we propose the creation of a cluster state of logical qubits encoded in spin-1/2 particles by adiabatically weakening two-body interactions. The proposal is valid for any spatial dimensional cluster states. Errors induced by thermal fluctuations and adiabatic evolution within finite time can be eliminated ensuring fault-tolerant quantum computing schemes.
We propose a scheme which implements a controllable change of the state of the target spin qubit in such a way that both the control and the target spin qubits remain in their ground states. The interaction between the two spins is mediated by an auxiliary spin, which can transfer to its excited state. Our scheme suggests a possible relationship between the gate and adiabatic quantum computation.
Numerical simulation results are presented which suggest that a class of non-adiabatic rapid passage sweeps first realized experimentally in 1991 should be capable of implementing a set of quantum gates that is universal for one-qubit unitary operations and whose elements operate with error probabilities per operation P < 10^{-4}. The sweeps are non-composite and generate controllable quantum interference effects which allow the one-qubit gates produced to operate non-adiabatically while maintaining high accuracy. The simulations suggest that the one-qubit gates produced by these sweeps show p…
In adiabatic rapid passage, the Bloch vector of a qubit is inverted by slowly inverting an external field to which it is coupled, and along which it is initially aligned. In non-adiabatic twisted rapid passage, the external field is allowed to twist around its initial direction with azimuthal angle ϕ(t) at the same time that it is non-adiabatically inverted. For polynomial twist, ϕ(t) \sim Bt^{n}. We show that for n \ge 3, multiple qubit resonances can occur during a single inversion of the external field, producing strong interference effects in the qubit transition probability. The character…
An adiabatic method for a single-shot non-demolition measurement of the phase qubit is suggested. The qubit is inductively coupled to a low-frequency resonator, which in turn is connected with a classical measurement device (phase meter). The resonator drives adiabatic oscillations of the supercurrent in the qubit loop. The back reaction of the qubit loop on the resonator depends on the qubit state. Measuring the phase shift of the resonator's oscillations one can determine the state of the qubit. Numerical computations with available experimental parameters show that the phase difference betw…
Based on a `shortcut-to-adiabaticity' (STA) scheme, we theoretically design and experimentally realize a set of high-fidelity single-qubit quantum gates in a superconducting Xmon qubit system. Through a precise microwave control, the qubit is driven to follow a fast `adiabatic' trajectory with the assistance of a counter-diabatic field and the correction of derivative removal by adiabatic gates. The experimental measurements of quantum process tomography and interleaved randomized benchmarking show that the process fidelities of our STA quantum gates are higher than 94.9% and the gate fideliti…
We give a careful proof that a parallelized version of adiabatic quantum computation can efficiently simulate universal gate model quantum computation. The proof specifies an explicit parameter-dependent Hamiltonian $H(λ)$ that is based on ground state quantum computation [1]. We treat both a 1-dimensional configuration in which qubits on a line undergo nearest neighbor 2-qubit gates and an all-to-all configuration in which every qubit undergoes 2-qubit gates with every other qubit in the system.
Quantum processors are potentially superior to their classical counterparts for many computational tasks including factorization. Circuit methods as well as adiabatic methods have already been proposed and implemented for finding the factors of a given composite number. The main challenge in scaling it to larger numbers is the unavailability of large number of qubits. Here we propose a hybrid scheme that involves both classical and quantum computation, which reduces the number of qubits required for factorization. The classical part involves setting up and partially simplifying a set of bit-wi…
We check a recent proposal [H. Goto and K. Ichimura Phys. Rev. A 70, 012305 (2004)] for controlled phase gate through adiabatic passage under the influence of spontaneous emission and the cavity decay. We show a modification of above proposal could be used to generate the necessary conditional phase gates in the two-qubit Grover search. Conditioned on no photon leakage either from the atomic excited state or from the cavity mode during the gating period, we numerically analyze the success probability and the fidelity of the two-qubit conditional phase gate by adiabatic passage. The comparison …
We introduce a method to speed up adiabatic protocols for creating entanglement between two qubits dispersively coupled to a transmission line, while keeping fidelities high and maintaining robustness to control errors. The method takes genuinely adiabatic sweeps, ranging from a simple Landau-Zener drive to boundary cancellation methods and local adiabatic drivings, and adds fast oscillations to speed up the protocol while canceling unwanted transitions. We compare our protocol with existing adiabatic methods in a state-of-the-art parameter range and show substantial gains. Numerical simulatio…
Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) is a widely used protocol to realize high-fidelity and robust quantum control in various quantum systems. However, further application of this protocol in superconducting qubits is limited by population leakage caused by the only weak anharmonicity. Here we introduce an optimally controlled shortcut-to-adiabatic (STA) technique to speed up the STIRAP protocol in a superconducting qudit. By modifying the shapes of the STIRAP pulses, we experimentally realize a fast (32 ns) and high-fidelity quantum state transfer. In addition, we demonstrate that our …
A scalable superconducting architecture for adiabatic quantum computers is proposed. The architecture is based on time-independent, nearest-neighbor interqubit couplings: it can handle any problem in the class NP even in the presence of measurement errors, noise, and decoherence. The implementation of this architecture with superconducting persistent-current qubits and the natural robustness of such an implementation to manufacturing imprecision and decoherence are discussed.
With a counter-diabatic field supplemented to the reference control field, the `shortcut to adiabaticiy' (STA) protocol is implemented in a superconducting phase qubit. The Berry phase measured in a short time scale is in good agreement with the theoretical result acquired from an adiabatic loop. The trajectory of a qubit vector is extracted, verifying the Berry phase alternatively by the integrated solid angle. The classical noise is introduced to the amplitude or phase of the total control field. In the statistics of the Berry phase, the mean with either noise is almost equal to that without…
The non-adiabatic holonomic quantum computation with the advantages of fast and robustness attracts widespread attention in recent years. Here, we propose the first scheme for realizing universal single-qubit gates based on an optomechanical system working with the non-adiabatic geometric phases. Our quantum gates are robust to the control errors and the parameter fluctuations, and have unique functions to achieve the quantum state transfer and entanglement generation between cavities. We discuss the corresponding experimental parameters and give some simulations. Our scheme may have the pract…
Quantum annealing has recently been used to determine the Ramsey numbers R(m,2) for 3 < m < 9 and R(3,3) [Bian et al. (2013) PRL 111, 130505]. This was greatly celebrated as the largest experimental implementation of an adiabatic evolution algorithm to that date. However, in that computation, more than 66% of the qubits used were auxiliary qubits, so the sizes of the Ramsey number Hamiltonians used were tremendously smaller than the full 128-qubit capacity of the device used. The reason these auxiliary qubits were needed was because the best quantum annealing devices at the time (and still now…
High fidelity two-qubit gates are fundamental for scaling up the superconducting number. We use two qubits coupled via a frequency-tunable coupler which can adjust the coupling strength, and demonstrate the CZ gate using two different schemes, adiabatic and diabatic methods. The Clifford based Randomized Benchmarking (RB) method is used to assess and optimize the CZ gate fidelity. The fidelity of adiabatic and diabatic CZ gates are 99.53(8)% and 98.72(2)%, respectively. We also analyze the errors induced by the decoherence. Comparing to 30 ns duration time of adiabatic CZ gate, the duration ti…
Quantum computing and quantum simulation can be implemented by concatenation of one- and two-qubit gates and interactions. For most physical implementations, however, it may be advantageous to explore state components and interactions that depart from this universal paradigm and offer faster or more robust access to more advanced operations on the system. In this article, we show that adiabatic passage along the dark eigenstate of excitation exchange interactions can be used to implement fast multi-qubit Toffoli (C$_k$-NOT) and fan-out (C-NOT$^k$) gates. This mechanism can be realized by simul…
Reliable quantum information processing requires high-fidelity universal manipulation of quantum systems within the characteristic coherence times. Non-adiabatic holonomic quantum computation offers a promising approach to implement fast, universal, and robust quantum logic gates particularly useful in nano-fabricated solid-state architectures, which typically have short coherence times. Here, we propose an experimentally feasible scheme to realize high-speed universal geometric quantum gates in nano-engineered pseudo-spin charge qubits. We use a system of three coupled quantum dots containing…
We propose a quantum simulator based on driven superconducting qubits where the interactions are generated parametrically by a polychromatic magnetic flux modulation of a tunable bus element. Using a time-dependent Schrieffer-Wolff transformation, we analytically derive a multi-qubit Hamiltonian which features independently tunable $XX$ and $YY$-type interactions as well as local bias fields over a large parameter range. We demonstrate the adiabatic simulation of the ground state of a hydrogen molecule using two superconducting qubits and one tunable bus element. The time required to reach che…
We extend recent work on a leakage-protected, adiabatic entangling gate for exchange-only spin qubits [Doherty and Wardrop, PRL 111, 050503 (2013)] by adapting to a setting where single spins are not assumed to be polarized on preparation. Previous gate constructions do not function correctly when "gauge spins" are uninitialized, because the entangling gate has different, non-trivial action in different gauge subspaces. Our construction inherits many of the desirable features of the previous work while addressing the gauge-dependent behavior. Using numerical simulation, we show that the result…
Geometric phases are noise-resilient, and thus provide a robust way towards high fidelity quantum manipulation. Here we experimentally demonstrate arbitrary non-adiabatic holonomic single-qubit quantum gates for both a superconducting transmon qubit and a microwave cavity in a single-loop way. In both cases, an auxiliary state is utilized, and two resonant microwave drives are simultaneously applied with well-controlled but varying amplitudes and phases for the arbitrariness of the gate. The resulting gates on the transmon qubit achieve a fidelity of 0.996 characterized by randomized benchmark…
In a `shortcut-to-adiabaticity' (STA) protocol, the counter-diabatic Hamiltonian, which suppresses the non-adiabatic transition of a reference `adiabatic' trajectory, induces a quantum uncertainty of the work cost in the framework of quantum thermodynamics. Following a theory derived recently [Funo et al 2017 Phys. Rev. Lett. 118 100602], we perform an experimental measurement of the STA work statistics in a high-quality superconducting Xmon qubit. Through the frozen-Hamiltonian and frozen-population techniques, we experimentally realize the two-point measurement of the work distribution for g…
We propose how to engineer the longitudinal coupling to accelerate the measurement of a qubit longitudinally coupled to a cavity, motivated by the concept of shortcuts to adiabaticity. Different modulations are inversely designed from two methods of inverse engineering and counter-diabatic driving, for achieving larger values of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at nanosecond scale. By comparison, we demonstrate that our protocols outperform the usual periodic modulations on the pointer state separation and SNR. Finally, we show a possible implementation considering state-of-the-art circuit quan…
The method of iterated resolvents is used to obtain an effective Hamiltonian for neighbouring qubits in the Kane solid state quantum computer. In contrast to the adiabatic gate processes inherent in the Kane proposal we show that free evolution of the qubit-qubit system, as generated by this effective Hamiltonian, combined with single qubit operations, is sufficient to produce a controlled-NOT (c-NOT) gate. Thus the usual set of universal gates can be obtained on the Kane quantum computer without the need for adiabatic switching of the controllable parameters as prescribed by Kane. Both the fi…
Shortcuts to adiabaticity is a general method for speeding up adiabatic quantum protocols, and has many potential applications in quantum information processing. Unfortunately, analytically constructing shortcuts to adiabaticity for systems having complex interactions and more than a few levels is a challenging task. This is usually overcome by assuming an idealized Hamiltonian [e.g., only a limited subset of energy levels are retained, and the rotating-wave approximation (RWA) is made]. Here we develop an $analytic$ approach that allows one to go beyond these limitations. Our method is genera…

Based on a pure solid-state device consisting of two superconducting LC circuits coupled to a superconducting flux qubit, we propose in this paper that the maximally entangled coherent states of the two LC modes can be generated for arbitrary coherent states through flux qubit controls.
We develop new protocols for high-fidelity single qubit gates that exploit and extend theoretical ideas for accelerated adiabatic evolution. Our protocols are compatible with qubit architectures with highly isolated logical states, where traditional approaches are problematic; a prime example are superconducting fluxonium qubits. By using an accelerated adiabatic protocol we can enforce the desired adiabatic evolution while having gate times that are comparable to the inverse adiabatic energy gap (a scale that is ultimately set by the amount of power used in the control pulses). By modelling t…
Non-adiabatic holonomic quantum computation in decoherence-free subspaces protects quantum information from control imprecisions and decoherence. For the non-collective decoherence that each qubit has its own bath, we show the implementations of two non-commutable holonomic single-qubit gates and one holonomic nontrivial two-qubit gate that compose a universal set of non-adiabatic holonomic quantum gates in decoherence-free-subspaces of the decoupling group, with an encoding rate of $\frac{N-2}{N}$. The proposed scheme is robust against control imprecisions and the non-collective decoherence, …
A controlled-phase gate was demonstrated in superconducting Xmon transmon qubits with fidelity reaching 99.4%, relying on the adiabatic interaction between the |11> and |02> states. Here we explain the theoretical concepts behind this protocol that achieves fast gate times with only $σ_z$ control of the Hamiltonian, based on a theory of non-linear mapping of state errors to a power spectral density and use of optimal window functions. With a solution given in the Fourier basis, optimization is shown to be straightforward for practical cases of an arbitrary state change and finite bandwidth of …
In this paper, the scheme of quantum computing based on Stark chirped rapid adiabatic passage (SCRAP) technique [L. F. Wei et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 113601 (2008)] is extensively applied to implement the quantum-state manipulations in the flux-biased Josephson phase qubits. The broken-parity symmetries of bound states in flux-biased Josephson junctions are utilized to conveniently generate the desirable Stark-shifts. Then, assisted by various transition pulses universal quantum logic gates as well as arbitrary quantum-state preparations could be implemented. Compared with the usual PI-puls…
Non-adiabatic holonomic quantum computation has received increasing attention due to its robustness against control errors. However, all the previous schemes have to use at least two sequentially implemented gates to realize a general one-qubit gate. In this paper, we put forward a novelty scheme by which one can directly realize an arbitrary holonomic one-qubit gate with a single-shot implementation, avoiding the extra work of combining two gates into one. Based on a three-level model driven by laser pulses, we show that any single-qubit holonomic gate can be realized by varying the detuning,…
We study the system involving mutual interaction between three qubits and an oscillator within the ultrastrong coupling regime. We apply adiabatic approximation approach to explore two extreme regimes: (i) the oscillator's frequency is far larger than each qubit's frequency and (ii) the qubit's frequency is far larger than the oscillator's frequency, and analyze the energy-level spectrum and the ground-state property of the qubit-oscillator system under the conditions of various system parameters. For the energy-level spectrum, we concentrate on studying the degeneracy in low energy levels. Fo…
We propose schemes of controlled-Z and controlled-NOT gates with ultracold neutral atoms based on deterministic phase accumulation during double adiabatic passage of the Stark-tuned Förster resonance of Rydberg states. The effect of deterministic phase accumulation during double adiabatic passage in a two-level quantum system has been analyzed in detail. Adiabatic rapid passage using nonlinearly chirped pulses with rectangle intensity profile has been discussed. Nonlinear time dependence of the energy detuning from the Förster resonance is used to achieve a high fidelity of population transfer…
We present a scalable scheme for superconducting charge qubits with the assistance of one-dimensional superconducting transmission line resonator (STLR) playing the role of data bus. The coupling between qubit and data bus may be turned on and off by just controlling the gate voltage and externally applied flux of superconducting charge qubit. In our proposal, the entanglement between arbitrary two qubits and $W$ states of three qubits can be generated quickly and easily.
We propose a scheme to realize quantum networking of superconducting qubits based on the opto-mechanical interface. The superconducting qubits interact with the microwave photons, which then couple to the optical photons through the opto-mechanical interface. The interface generates a quantum link between superconducting qubits and optical flying qubits with tunable pulse shapes and carrier frequencies, enabling transmission of quantum information to other superconducting or atomic qubits. We show that the scheme works under realistic experimental conditions and it also provides a way for fast…
Adiabatic quantum computing enables the preparation of many-body ground states. This is key for applications in chemistry, materials science, and beyond. Realisation poses major experimental challenges: Direct analog implementation requires complex Hamiltonian engineering, while the digitised version needs deep quantum gate circuits. To bypass these obstacles, we suggest an adiabatic variational hybrid algorithm, which employs short quantum circuits and provides a systematic quantum adiabatic optimisation of the circuit parameters. The quantum adiabatic theorem promises not only the ground sta…
Geometric phases have stimulated researchers for its potential applications in many areas of science. One of them is fault-tolerant quantum computation. A preliminary requisite of quantum computation is the implementation of controlled logic gates by controlled dynamics of qubits. In controlled dynamics, one qubit undergoes coherent evolution and acquires appropriate phase, depending on the state of other qubits. If the evolution is geometric, then the phase acquired depend only on the geometry of the path executed, and is robust against certain types of errors. This phenomenon leads to an inh…
For a frequency-tunable two-qubit system, a controlled-Z (CZ) gate can be realized by adiabatically driving the qubit system through an avoided level crossing between an auxiliary state and computational levels. Here, we theoretically propose a fast CZ gate using a shortcut-to-adiabaticity (STA). Experimentally, the STA CZ gate is implemented with a 52 ns control pulse for two coupled superconducting Xmon qubits. Measured fidelity of the STA CZ gate is higher than 96.0%, in both quantum process tomography and randomized benchmarking. The protocol allows a flexible design of the evolution time …
Quantum protocols based on adiabatic evolution are remarkably robust against imperfections of control pulses and system uncertainties. While adiabatic protocols have been successfully implemented for quantum operations such as quantum state transfer and single-qubit gates, their use for geometric two-qubit gates remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose a general scheme to realize robust geometric two-qubit gates in multi-level qubit systems where the interaction between the qubits is mediated by an auxiliary system (such as a bus or coupler). While our scheme utilizes Stimulated Raman Ad…
We analyze the optical selection rules of the microwave-assisted transitions in a flux qubit superconducting quantum circuit (SQC). We show that the parities of the states relevant to the superconducting phase in the SQC are well-defined when the external magnetic flux $Φ_{e}=Φ_{0}/2$, then the selection rules are same as the ones for the electric-dipole transitions in usual atoms. When $Φ_{e}\neq Φ_{0}/2$, the symmetry of the potential of the artificial "atom'' is broken, a so-called $Δ$-type "cyclic" three-level atom is formed, where one- and two-photon processes can coexist. We study how th…
For quantum information processing, each physical system has different advantage for the implementation and so hybrid systems to benefit from several systems would be able to provide a promising approach. One of the common hybrid approach is to combine a superconducting qubit as a controllable qubit and the other quantum system with a long coherence time as a memory qubit. The superconducting qubit allows us to have an excellent controllability of the quantum states and the memory qubit is capable of storing the information for a long time. By tuning the energy splitting between the supercondu…
We investigate the thermal entanglement in two superconducting qubits for arbitrary interaction strength and ground state frequencies. We calculate the concurrence of the system to quantify the thermal entanglement. We suggest a scheme, where an external tunable coupler qubit sandwich between two superconducting qubits generates entanglement. The behavior of concurrence is analyzed for three different cases, in which we consider the effects of the temperature, the qubit-qubit effective coupling strength, and the qubit frequencies on the thermal entanglement. What deserves mentioning here is th…
Incorporating protection against quantum errors into adiabatic quantum computing (AQC) is an important task due to the inevitable presence of decoherence. Here we investigate an error-protected encoding of the AQC Hamiltonian, where qubit ensembles are used in place of qubits. Our Hamiltonian only involves total spin operators of the ensembles, offering a simpler route towards error-corrected quantum computing. Our scheme is particularly suited to neutral atomic gases where it is possible to realize large ensemble sizes and produce ensemble-ensemble entanglement. We identify a critical ensembl…
We propose a scheme to manipulate a topological spin qubit which is realized with cold atoms in a one-dimensional optical lattice. In particular, by introducing a quantum opto-electro-mechanical interface, we are able to first transfer a superconducting qubit state to an atomic qubit state and then to store it into the topological spin qubit. In this way, an efficient topological quantum memory could be constructed for the superconducting qubit. Therefore, we can consolidate the advantages of both the noise resistance of the topological qubits and the scalability of the superconducting qubits …
We describe a scheme that enables a strong Jaynes-Cummings coupling between a topological qubit and a superconducting flux qubit. The coupling strength is dependent on the phase difference between two superconductors on a topological insulator and may be expediently controlled by a phase controller. With this coherent coupling and single-qubit rotations arbitrary unitary operations on the two-qubit hybrid system of topological and flux qubits can be performed. Numerical simulations show that quantum state transfer and entanglement distributing between the topological and superconducting flux q…
We describe how stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) can be applied to create spectral holes in an inhomogeneously broadened system. Due to the robustness of STIRAP, our proposal guarantees high flexibility and accuracy and, at variance with traditional spectral hole burning techniques, it may require substantially less time resources since it does not rely upon the spontaneous decay of an intermediate excited state. We investigate the effects on the scheme of dephasing and dissipation as well as of unintentional driving of undesired transitions due to a finite splitting of the initial …
We revisit the protocols to create maximally entangled states between two Josephson junction (JJ) charge phase qubits coupled to a microwave field in a cavity as a quantum data bus. We devote to analyze a novel mechanism of quantum decoherence due to the adiabatic entanglement between qubits and the data bus, the off-resonance microwave field. We show that even through the variable of the data bus can be adiabatically eliminated, the entanglement between the qubits and data bus remains and can decoher the superposition of two-particle state. Fortunately we can construct a decoherence-free subs…
