We discuss the specificity of the interactions of the electroweak gauge boson excitations in models with warped extra dimensions. In particular, we show that the couplings of the gauge boson excitations $W^{\prime}$, $Z^{\prime}$, and $γ^\prime$ to the SM gauge bosons treated as the zero modes of the 5D gauge fields are either exactly equal to zero or very much suppressed. In the former case, the three-particle and four-particle interaction Lagrangians of the SM gauge bosons and their lowest excitations are found explicitly. Meanwhile, the couplings of $W^{\prime}$, $Z^{\prime}$, and $γ^\prime$ to the SM fermions are non-zero allowing for their production and decays. These are the characteristic features of the gauge boson excitations in models with warped extra dimensions, which distinguish them from the gauge boson excitations in other models beyond the SM.
We discuss the specificity of searches for hypothetical $W^{\prime}$, $Z^{\prime}$ and $γ^{\prime}$ bosons at hadron colliders in single top quark and $μ^{+}ν_μ$ production and Drell-Yan processes assuming these particles to be the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the gauge bosons of the Standard Model. In this case any process mediated by $W$ is also mediated by the whole KK tower of its excitations, whereas to the processes mediated by $Z$ and $γ$ there is not only a contribution from their KK towers, but also from that of the graviton. The contributions of the towers above $W^{\prime}$, $Z^{\pri…
Following the pioneering Okubo scrutiny of gauge simple groups for the quantum chromodynamics we show the constraints coming from the wondrous predictive leptoquark-bilepton flavordynamics connecting the number of color charges to solution of the flavor question and to an electric charge quantization unconstrained from the Dirac, Majorana or Dirac--Majorana character of massive neutrino.
We set constraints on the trilinear Higgs boson self-coupling, $λ_3$, by combining the information coming from the $W$ mass and leptonic effective Weinberg angle, electroweak precision observables, with the single Higgs boson analyses targeting the $γγ,\, ZZ^*,\, WW^*, \,τ^+ τ^-$ and $\bar{b} b$ decay channels and the double Higgs boson analyses in the $b\bar{b}b\bar{b}, \, b\bar{b}b τ^+ τ^-$ and $b\bar{b}b γγ$ decay channels, performed by the ATLAS collaboration. With the assumption that the new physics affects only the Higgs potential, values outside the interval $ -1.8\, λ_3^{\rm SM} < λ_3 …
We investigate the Sudakov double logarithmic corrections to the form factor of fermion in the SU(2)XU(1) electroweak theory. We adopt the familiar Feynman gauge and present explicit calculations at the two loop level. We show that the leading logarithmic corrections coming from the infrared singularities are consistent with the "postulated" exponentiated electroweak Sudakov form factor. The similarities and differences in the "soft" physics between the electroweak theory and the unbroken non-abelian gauge theory (QCD) will be clarified.
We introduce a simple scenario where, by starting with a five-dimensional SU(3) gauge theory, we end up with several 4-D parallel branes with localized fermions and gauge fields. Similar to the split fermion scenario, the confinement of fermions is generated by the nontrivial topological solution of a SU(3) scalar field. The 4-D fermions are found to be chiral, and to have interesting properties coming from their 5-D group representation structure. The gauge fields, on the other hand, are localized by loop corrections taking place at the branes produced by the fermions. We show that these two …
Recent anomalies in cosmic rays data, namely from the PAMELA collaboration, can be interpreted in terms of TeV scale decaying/annihilating Dark Matter. We analyze the impact of radiative corrections coming from the electroweak sector of the Standard Model on the spectrum of the final products at the interaction point. As an example, we consider virtual one loop corrections and real gauge bosons emission in the case of a very heavy vector boson annihilating into fermions. We show that the effect of electroweak corrections is relevant, but not as big as sometimes claimed in the literature. At su…
This is the write-up of a talk given at the EW session in Moriond (March 2012). I summarize some non-standard electroweak scenarios, and how they predict the existence of new spin-two resonances. Spin-two resonances, whether coming from the compactification of extra-dimensions or from a new sector of strong interactions, exhibit the same interactions with the Standard Model. This is a consequence of Lorentz and CP invariance, which we assume would be preserved by the new strong sector. Although this would seem to support the holographic duality between strongly interacting theories in four-dim…
In the standard model of electroweak interactions the Higgs doublet is replaced by a complex vector doublet and a real vector singlet. The gauge symmetry is broken dynamically by a mixed condensate of the doublet and singlet vector fields. Gauge fields get their usual standard model masses by condensation. The new vector matter fields become massive by their gauge invariant selfcouplings. Fermions are assigned to the gauge group in the usual manner. Fermion masses are coming from a gauge invariant fermion-vector field interaction by a mixed condensate. The Kobayashi-Maskawa description is unch…
The present status of precision electroweak data is reviewed. These data include measurements of e+e- -> f+fbar, taken at the Z resonance at LEP, which are used to determine the mass and width of the Z boson. In addition, measurements have also been made of the forward-backward asymmetries for leptons and heavy quarks, and also the final state polarisation of the tau-lepton. At SLAC, where the electron beam was polarised, measurements were made of the left-right polarised asymmetry, A_LR, and the left-right forward-backward asymmetries for b and c quarks. The mass, MW, and width, GW, of the W …
It has recently been shown that the studies of strongly-interacting electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) at photon colliders, via photon splitting into $W$ pair followed by longitudinal $W$-boson scattering, could be possible. Here we present a signal-background analysis for the scattering channels $W^+_L W^-_L \to Z_L Z_L$ and $W^+_L W^-_L \to W^+_L W^-_L$ with background coming from the standard model (SM) production of $γγ\to WW ZZ$ and $WWWW$, respectively. We illustrate the analysis using the SM with a heavy Higgs boson $(m_H\approx 1$ TeV) to represent a typical strongly-interacting EWSB…
An extension of the gauge group $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$ of the standard model to the symmetry group $SU(4)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ (3-4-1 for short) is presented. The model does not contain exotic electric charges and anomaly cancellation is achieved with a family of quarks transforming differently from the other two, thus leading to FCNC. By introducing a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry we obtain a consistent fermion mass spectrum, and avoid unitarity violation of the CKM mixing matrix arising from the mixing of ordinary and exotic quarks. The neutral currents coupled to all neutral vector bosons are studie…
We report the most general expression for the chiral charges of a $Z'$ gauge boson coming from an $E_6$ unification model, as a function of the electroweak parameters and the charges of the $U(1)$ factors in the chain of subgroups. These charges are valid for an arbitrary Higgs sector and only depend on the branching rules of the $E_6$ fundamental representation and the corresponding rules for the fermionic representations of their subgroups. By assuming $E_6$ unification, the renormalization group equations~(RGE) allow us to calculate the electroweak parameters at low energies for most of the…
Theoretical backgound for bileptonic gauge bosons is reviewed, both the SU(15) GUT model and the 3-3-1 model. Then the mass limits for bileptons are discussed coming from $e^+e^-$ scattering, polarized muon decay and muonium-antimuonium conversion. A consequence of precision electroweak data on the masses is mentioned. Discovery in $e^-e^-$ at a linear collider is emphasised.
Motivated by the fact that the Higgs is not seen, we have proposed a version of the standard model where the scalar doublet is replaced by a vector doublet and its neutral member forms a nonvanishing condensate. Gauge fields are coupled to the new vector fields B in a gauge invariant way leading to mass terms for the gauge fields by condensation. B-particles become massive because of their self interactions. Fermion and gauge field couplings are standard. Low energy charged current phenomenology fixes the condensate. Fermion masses are coming from the condensation and B-particle-fermion coupli…
I study phenomenological aspects of the SU(2)L x U(1) electroweak physics of a Higgs boson transforming like a quark-antiquark pair. A correspondence is established between its flavour content, the hierarchy of quark condensates, and the leptonic decay constants f of pseudoscalar mesons; the Higgs-mesons couplings coming from the symmetry-breaking scalar potential can then be expressed in terms of the f's, of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing angles, and of the mass of the Higgs boson. Application is made to the decays of a Z boson into two leptons and two charged pseudoscalar mesons, more …
We consider an $SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_N$ model for the electroweak interactions which includes extra charged leptons which do not mix with the known leptons. These new leptons couple to $Z^0$ only through vector currents. We consider constraints on the mass of one of these leptons coming from the $Z^0$-width and from the muon $(g-2)$ factor. The last one is less restrictive than the former.
The existence of a strongly interacting sector responsible for the electroweak symmetry breaking is assumed. As a consequence vector and axial-vector bound states may be formed. These resonances mix with the Standard Model gauge bosons and are of primary phenomenological importance for the LEP physics. The extended BESS model is an effective scheme based on the symmetry group $SU(8)_L\otimes SU(8)_R$, describing in a consistent way the interactions among the pseudo-Goldstone bosons, vector and axial-vector resonances and the standard gauge bosons. In a previous paper, the contribution from ext…
We give here an overview of recent developments in high energy physics and cosmology and their interconnections that relate to unification, and discuss prospects for the future. Thus there are currently three empirical data that point to supersymmetry as an underlying symmetry of particle physics: the unification of gauge couplings within supersymmetry, the fact that nature respects the supersymmetry prediction that the Higgs boson mass lie below 130 GeV, and vacuum stability up to the Planck scale with a Higgs boson mass at $\sim 125$ GeV while the standard model does not do that. Coupled wit…
The problem of Majorana neutrino mass generated in Arkani-Hamed--Dimopoulos-Dvali model with n extra spatial dimensions is discussed. Taking into account constraints on neutrino masses coming from cosmological observations, it is possible to obtain lower limits on the size of extra dimensions as large as 10^{-6} mm. In the case of n=4 it is easy to lower the fundamental scale of gravity from the Planck energy to electroweak scale TeV without imposing any additional constraints. A link between the half-life of neutrinoless double beta decay and the size of extra dimensions is discussed.
In brane-world models with low tension, massive branons are natural candidates for dark matter. The phenomenology of these WIMP-like particles is completely determined by their mass, the brane tension and, in the case of effects due to radiative corrections, by the cutoff setting the scale of validity of the branon effective theory. In this paper, we review the main constraints on branon physics coming from colliders, astrophysics and cosmological observations, and include more recent limits obtained from electroweak precision measurements.
We estimate contributions from Kaluza-Klein excitations of gauge bosons and physical charge scalar for the explanation of the lepton flavor universality violating excess in the ratios $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ in 5 dimensional Universal Extra Dimensional scenario with non-vanishing boundary localized terms. This model is conventionally known as non-minimal Universal Extra Dimensional model. We obtain the allowed parameter space in accordance with constraints coming from $B_c \to τν$ decay, as well as those from the electroweak precision tests.
The precision measurement of the W boson mass is an important milestone for the LHC physics program in the coming years. An accurate measurement of $M_W$ allows to perform stringent consistency tests of the Standard Model by means of global electroweak fits, which in turn are sensitive to New Physics at scales potentially higher than the ones explored in direct searches. From the theoretical point of view, our limited knowledge of PDFs will be one of the dominant sources of uncertainty in ongoing and future LHC determinations of $M_W$. In this whitepaper, we have quantified the impact of PDF u…
It has been known for some time that warped extra dimensions offer a potential explanation of the large hierarchy that exists between the electroweak scale and the Planck scale. The majority of this work has focused on a five dimensional slice of AdS space. This thesis attempts to address the question, what possible spaces offer phenomenologically viable resolutions to this gauge hierarchy problem. In order for a space to offer a potential resolution to the hierarchy problem two conditions must be met: Firstly one should be able to demonstrate that the space can be stabilised such that a small…
High-energy particle physics experiments allow for the possible existence of a new light, very weakly coupled, neutral gauge boson (the U boson). This one permits for light (spin-1/2 or spin-0) particles to be acceptable Dark Matter candidates, by inducing sufficient (stronger than weak) annihilation cross sections into e+e-. They could be responsible for the bright 511 keV gamma ray line observed by INTEGRAL from the galactic bulge. Such a new interaction may have important consequences, especially at lower energies. Parity-violation atomic-physics experiments provide strong constraints on su…
We consider a hidden sector model of dark matter which is charged under a hidden U(1)_X gauge symmetry. Kinetic mixing of U(1)_X with the Standard Model hypercharge U(1)_Y is allowed to provide communication between the hidden sector and the Standard Model sector. We present various limits on the kinetic mixing parameter and the hidden gauge coupling constant coming from various low energy observables, electroweak precision tests, and the right thermal relic density of the dark matter. Saturating these constraints, we show that the spin-independent elastic cross section of the dark matter off …
We analyze the potential of the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to study anomalous quartic vector--boson interactions (photon photon Z Z) and (photon photon W+ W-). Working in the framework of SU(2)_L X U(1)_Y chiral Lagrangians, we study the production of photons pairs accompanied by (e+e-), (e nu), and jet pairs to impose bounds on these new couplings, taking into account the unitarity constraints. We compare our findings with the indirect limits coming from precision electroweak measurements as well as with presently available direct searches at LEPII. We show that th…

The gauge symmetry is broken dynamically by a mixed condensate of the doublet and singlet vector fields. Gauge fields get their usual standard model masses by condensation. The new vector matter fields become massive by their gauge invariant selfcouplings and expected to have masses of few hundred GeV. Fermions are assigned to the gauge group in the usual manner. One of the most striking features found in the cosmic microwave background data is the presence of an anomalous Cold Spot (CS) in the temperature maps made by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). This CS has been interpreted as the result of the presence of a collapsing texture, perhaps coming from some early universe Grand Unified Theory (GUT) phase transition. In this work we propose an alternative explanation based on a completely different kind of texture which appears in a natural way in a broad class of brane-world models. This type of textures known as brane-skyrmions can be…
Kinematic distributions in the decays of the newly discovered resonance to four leptons are a powerful test of the tensor structure of its couplings to electroweak gauge bosons. We present an analytic calculation for both signal and background of the fully differential cross section for the `Golden Channel' $e^+e^-μ^+μ^-$ final state. We include all interference effects between intermediate gauge bosons and allow them to be on- or off-shell. For the signal we compute the fully differential cross section for general scalar couplings to $ZZ$, $γγ$, and $Zγ$. For the background we compute the lea…
