The string breaking phenomenon in QCD can be studied using the gauge/string duality. In this approach, one can make estimates of some of the string breaking distances at non-zero temperature and baryon chemical potential. These point towards the enhancement of baryon production in strong decays of heavy mesons in dense baryonic medium.
We consider the string breaking phenomenon within effective string models which purport to mimic QCD with two light flavors, with a special attention to baryon modes. We make some estimates of the string breaking distances at zero and non-zero baryon chemical potentials. Our estimates point towards the enhancement of baryon production in strong decays of heavy mesons in dense baryonic matter. We also suggest that the enhanced production of $Λ_c^+$ baryons in PbPb collisions is mainly due to larger values of chemical potential.
Making use of the gauge/string duality, it is possible to study some aspects of the string breaking phenomenon in the three quark system. Our results point out that the string breaking distance is not universal and depends on quark geometry. The estimates of the ratio of the string breaking distance in the three quark system to that in the quark-antiquark system would range approximately from $\frac{2}{3}$ to $1$. In addition, it is shown that there are special geometries which allow more than one breaking distance.
Using the AdS/CFT correspondence for strongly coupled gauge theories, we calculate thermalization of mesons caused by a time-dependent change of a baryon number chemical potential. On the gravity side, the thermalization corresponds to a horizon formation on the probe flavor brane in the AdS throat. Since heavy ion collisions are locally approximated by a sudden change of the baryon number chemical potential, we discuss implication of our results to RHIC and LHC experiments, to find a rough estimate of rather rapid thermalization time-scale t_{th} < 1 [fm/c]. We also discuss universality of ou…
We discuss the spontaneous supersymetry breaking within the low-energy effective supergravity action of four-dimensional superstrings. In particular, we emphasize the non-universality of the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters, the $μ$-problem and the duality symmetries.
We propose a new chiral model of metastable supersymmetry breaking in the conformal window via chiral/nonchiral Seiberg duality, which is focused on Spin(7)/SU(N_f-4) duality in this letter. Following the approach of Intriligator-Seiberg-Shih model, a small mass perturbation in the nonchiral theory leads to supersymmetry breaking by rank condition in the chiral dual description.
In this paper, we study properties of baryons by using a holographic dual of QCD on the basis of the D4/D8-brane configuration, where baryons are described by a soliton. We first determine the asymptotic behavior of the soliton solution, which allows us to evaluate well-defined currents associated with the U(N_f)_L \times U(N_f)_R chiral symmetry. Using the currents, we compute static quantities of baryons such as charge radii and magnetic moments, and make a quantitative test with experiments. It is emphasized that not only the nucleon but also excited baryons, such as Δ, N(1440), N(1535) etc…
We study Seiberg duality for N=1 supersymmetric QCD with soft supersymmetry-breaking terms. We generate the soft terms through gauge mediation by coupling two theories related by Seiberg duality to the same supersymmetry-breaking sector. In this way, we know what a supersymmetry-breaking perturbation in one theory maps into in its ``dual''. Assuming a canonical Kahler potential we calculate the soft terms induced in the magnetic theory and find that some of the scalars acquire negative masses squared. If duality is still good for small supersymmetry breaking, this may imply some specific symme…
We study the isospin symmetry breaking and mass splittings of the eight lowest-lying baryons. We consider three kinds of baryon mass terms, including the bare mass term, the electromagnetic terms and the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking terms. We include the mixing term between flavor-octet and flavor-decuplet baryons. This assumes that the lowest-lying Sigma and Xi baryons contain a few decuplet components and so are not purely flavor-octet. We achieve a good fitting that the difference between every fitted mass and its experimental value is less than 0.2 MeV.
Fluctuations of conserved charges such as baryon number, electric charge and strangeness may provide a test for completeness of states in lattice QCD for three light flavors. We elaborate on the idea that the corresponding susceptibilities can be saturated with excited baryonic states with an underlying quark-diquark structure with a linearly confining interaction. Using Polyakov-loop correlators we show that in the static limit, the quark-diquark potential coincides with the quark-antiquark potential in marked agreement with recent lattice studies. We thus study in a quark-diquark model the b…
In the framework of quark-hadron duality, the cross section values of charmonium and doubly charmed baryon production in $e^+e^-$-annihilations have been estimated at interaction energy $\sqrt{s}=10.6$ GeV. It has been shown that the approach under discussion allows to resolve some contradictions between the experimental data and pQCD predictions.
Applying the QCD sum-rule machinery in the so-called local-duality shape to heavy-light mesons reveals that, as a consequence of the non-zero mass gap between up and down quarks, the leptonic decay constants of the neutral and charged versions of the $D,$ $D^\ast,$ $B$ and $B^\ast$ mesons differ by approximately 1 MeV.
It is shown how to break the symmetry of a Lagrangian with duality symmetry between electric and magnetic monopoles, so that at low energy, electric monopole interactions continue to be observed but magnetic monopole interactions become very highly suppressed to the point of effectively vanishing. The "zero-charge" problem of source-free electrodynamics is solved by requiring invariance under continuous, local, duality transformations, while local duality symmetry combined with local U(1)EM gauge symmetry leads naturally and surprisingly to an SU(2)D duality gauge group.
In this paper we investigate the phase structure of a (1+1)-dimensional schematic quark model with four-quark interaction and in the presence of baryon ($μ_B$), isospin ($μ_I$) and chiral isospin ($μ_{I5}$) chemical potentials. It is established that in the large-$N_c$ limit ($N_c$ is the number of colored quarks) there exists a duality correspondence between the chiral symmetry breaking phase and the charged pion condensation (PC) one. The role and influence of this property on the phase structure of the model are studied. Moreover, it is shown that the chemical potential $μ_{I5}$ promotes th…
Following arXiv:1310.2027 and arXiv:0801.0762, we consider a non-supersymmetric Seiberg duality between electric and magnetic "orientifold field theories". These theories live on brane configurations of type 0' string theory. In the electric theory side the scalars acquire a mass and decouple, resulting in an SU(Nc) gauge theory coupled to Nf massless quarks and an additional massless fermion that transforms in the two-index antisymmetric representation. In the magnetic theory side there exists a fundamental meson field that develops a Coleman-Weinberg potential. At the one-loop approximation …
We have computed the baryon spectrum in the context of $\mathcal{N} = 4$ super-conformal Yang-Mills theory using AdS/CFT duality. Baryons are included in the theory by adding an open string sector, corresponding to quarks in the fundamental and higher representations. The hadron mass scale is introduced by imposing boundary conditions at the wall at the end of AdS space. The quantum numbers of each baryon, are identified by matching the fall-off of the string wavefunction $Ψ(x,r)$ at the asymptotic 3+1 boundary to the operator dimension of the lowest three-quark Fock state, subject to appropri…
The magnetic moments and transition magnetic moments of the ground state baryons are analyzed in an expansion in 1/N_c, SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking and isospin symmetry breaking. There is clear evidence in the experimental data for the hierarchy of magnetic moments of the combined expansion in 1/N_c and flavor breaking. SU(3) breaking in the magnetic moments is expected to be enhanced relative to that of other hadronic observables, and significant SU(3) breaking is found.
Transition decay widths by one-pion emissions for excited heavy-baryons with a single heavy (charm and bottom) quark are investigated by following the heavy-quark symmetry and its breaking effects at ${\cal O}(1/M)$ for a heavy-baryon mass $M$. Based on the heavy-baryon effective theory, interaction Lagrangian for the heavy baryons with axial-vector current induced by a pion is constructed. It is presented that the transition decay widths up to ${\cal O}(1/M)$ in several channels are constrained. The results will be useful in experimental study of excited heavy-baryons.
We briefly review the generalized Skyrmion model for the baryon recently suggested by us. It takes into account the tower of vector and axial mesons as well as the chiral symmetry breaking. The generalized Skyrmion model provides the qualitative explanation of the Ioffe's formula for the baryon mass.
We analyze the vacuum structure of SU(2) QCD with multiple massless adjoint representation fermions formulated on a small spatial $S^1 \times \R^3$. The absence of thermal fluctuations, and the fact that quantum fluctuations favoring the vacuum with unbroken center symmetry in a weakly coupled regime renders the interesting dynamics of these theories analytically calculable. Confinement, the area law behavior for large Wilson loops, and the generation of the mass gap in the gluonic sector are shown analytically. By abelian duality transformation, the long distance effective theory of QCD is ma…
The status of gaugino condensation in low-energy string theory is reviewed. Emphasis is given to the determination of the efective action below condensation scale in terms of the 2PI and Wilson actions. We illustrate how the different perturbative duality symmetries survive this simple nonperturbative phenomenon, providing evidence for the believe that these are exact nonperturbative symmetries of string theory. Consistency with T duality lifts the moduli degeneracy. The $B_{μν}-axion$ duality also survives in a nontrivial way in which the degree of freedom corresponding to $B_{μν}$ is replace…
Using an SU(3) flavour symmetry breaking expansion in the quark mass, we determine the QCD component of the nucleon, Sigma and Xi mass splittings of the baryon octet due to up-down (and strange) quark mass differences in terms of the kaon mass splitting. Provided the average quark mass is kept constant, the expansion coefficients in our procedure can be determined from computationally cheaper simulations with mass degenerate sea quarks and partially quenched valence quarks. Both the linear and quadratic terms in the SU(3) flavour symmetry breaking expansion are considered; it is found that the…
We present a study of the 1+1 flavor system of strongly interacting matter in terms of the Polyakov$-$Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model. We find that though the small isospin symmetry breaking brought in through unequal light quark masses is too small to affect the thermodynamics of the system in general, it may have significant effect in baryon-isospin correlations and have a measurable impact in heavy-ion collision experiments.
We examine flavor SU(3) breaking effects on meson-baryon scattering amplitudes in the chiral unitary model. It turns out that the SU(3) breaking, which appears in the leading quark mass term in the chiral expansion, can not explain the channel dependence of the subtraction parameters of the model, which are crucial to reproduce the observed scattering amplitudes and resonance properties.
A Kallen-Lehman approach to 3D Ising model is analyzed numerically both at low and high temperature. It is shown that, even assuming a minimal duality breaking, one can fix three parameters of the model to get a very good agreement with the MonteCarlo results at high temperatures. With the same parameters the agreement is satisfactory both at low and near critical temperatures. How to improve the agreement with MonteCarlo results by introducing a more general duality breaking is shortly discussed.
We discuss an attempt to understand confinement and dynamical symmetry breaking in a 4-dimensional non-supersymmetric gauge theory using S-duality in type IIB string theory. The electric theory is a USp(2n) gauge theory and its magnetic dual is argued to be an SO(2n) or SO(2n-1) gauge theory. These theories are obtained as the low-energy effective theory of O3-D3bar systems in type IIB string theory, which are related by S-duality. Confinement and dynamical symmetry breaking in the USp(2n) gauge theory are caused by the condensation of scalar fields in the magnetic dual description, which is c…
Motivated from unified models with string origin, we analyse the constraints from duality invariance on effective supergravity models with an intermediate gauge symmetry. Requiring vanishing vacuum energy and invariance of the superpotential couplings, we find that modular weights of the matter and higgs fields are subject to various constraints. In addition, the vacuum expectation values of the higgs fields breaking the intermediate gauge group, are determined in terms of their modular weights and the moduli. We also examine the possibility of breaking the intermediate gauge symmetry radiativ…
We study four dimensional $N=2$ supersymmetric gauge theories with matter multiplets. For all such models for which the gauge group is $SU(2)$, we derive the exact metric on the moduli space of quantum vacua and the exact spectrum of the stable massive states. A number of new physical phenomena occur, such as chiral symmetry breaking that is driven by the condensation of magnetic monopoles that carry global quantum numbers. For those cases in which conformal invariance is broken only by mass terms, the formalism automatically gives results that are invariant under electric-magnetic duality. In…
The parton model relations in conjunction with quark-hadron duality in deep inelastic scattering suggests an asymptotic dominance of quark-diquark type of baryonic excited states with a radial Regge uniformly distributed mass squared spectrum $M_{n}^2 = μ^2 n + M_0^2$. We argue that this points to a lineary quark-diquark confining potential. We analyze the radial ($n$) and angular-momentum ($J$) Regge trajectories for all light-quark states with baryon number one listed in the 2016 edition of the Particle Data Tables. The parameters of the mass squared trajectories are obtained by linear regre…
In this paper the phase structure of dense quark matter has been investigated in the presence of baryon, isospin and chiral isospin chemical potentials in the framework of (3+1)-dimensional Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with two quark flavors. It has been shown that in the large-$N_{c}$ limit ($N_{c}$ is the number of colors of quarks) there exists a duality correspondence between the chiral symmetry breaking phase and the charged pion condensation one. The key conclusion of our studies is the fact that chiral isospin chemical potential generates charged pion condensation in dense quark matter wit…
We study the isospin breaking effect on octet baryons. Using the two-flavor dynamical domain-wall QCD configurations combined with the quenched non-compact QED configurations, the electromagnetic mass splittings between isomultiplets (p, n), (Sigma^+, Sigma^0, Sigma^-), (Xi^0, Xi^-) are investigated. We evaluate the main source of statistical fluctuations in the two-point correlation function, and find that the elimination of O(e) fluctuation (e: the QED charge) is essential to extract the signal. Preliminary results for $m_p - m_n$ as well as other mass splittings are presented. Possible orig…
We revisit the mass splittings of SU(3) baryons, taking into account the second-order effects of isospin and SU(3) flavor symmetry breakings within the framework of a chiral soliton model. The masses of the baryon decuplet turn out to be improved, compared to those with the first-order corrections. The mass of the N^* as a member of the baryon antidecuplet is obtained as M_{n^*}=1687 MeV, which is in agreement with the recent experimental data. The pion-nucleon sigma term becomes Σ_{πN}=(50.5\pm 5.4) MeV.
We explore, by a rather peculiar limit of QCD sum rules subject to a Borel transformation (realized by allowing the related Borel mass parameter to approach infinity), how the small difference of the masses of up and down quark translates into the leptonic decay constants of pseudoscalar or vector heavy-light mesons. For the charmed and bottom mesons, we find that the decay constants of their lowest-lying charged and neutral representatives should differ by an amount of the order of 1 MeV.
In present work we discuss the production of heavy quarkonia and diquarks in $pp$-interactions. The aim is to take into account the production of bound states of quarks originating from independent parton scatterings. This production is regulated by constraints on the invariant mass of constituents. Such an approach leads to larger value of the diquark production cross section than traditional consideration in single parton scattering. This production mechanism of doubly heavy baryons can sooner be verified by modern experiments (e.g. LHCb). We also discuss related contributions to double and …
N* masses in the spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 sectors are computed using two non-perturbative methods: lattice QCD and QCD sum rules. States with both positive and negative parity are isolated via parity projection methods. The basic pattern of the mass splittings is consistent with experiments. The mass splitting within the same parity pair is directly linked to the chiral symmetry breaking QCD.
We propose a mean-field approach to analyze many-body systems of fermions in the gauge/gravity duality. We introduce a non-vanishing classical fermionic field in the gravity dual, which we call the holographic mean field for fermions. The holographic mean field takes account of the many-body dynamics of the fermions in the bulk. The regularity condition of the holographic mean field fixes the relationship between the chemical potential and the density unambiguously. Our approach provides a new framework of gauge/gravity duality for finite-density systems of baryons in the confinement phase.
We consider a class of N=1 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories, with gauge group SU(N)xSU(N - M) and fundamental matter content. Duality plays an essential role in analyzing the nonperturbative infrared dynamics of these models. We find that Yukawa couplings drive these theories into the confining phase, and show how the nonperturbative superpotentials arise in the dual picture. We show that the odd-N, M = 2 models with an appropriate tree-level superpotential break supersymmetry.
We analyze the theory of softly broken supersymmetric $QCD$. Exotic behavior like spontaneously broken baryon number, massless composite fermions and Seiberg's duality seems to persist also in the presence of (small) soft supersymmetry breaking. We argue that certain, specially tailored, lattice simulations may be able to detect the novel phenomena. Most of the exotic behavior does not survive the decoupling limit of large SUSY breaking parameters.
We identify conditions under which a summation over nucleon resonances can yield, via quark-hadron duality, parton model results for electromagnetic and neutrino structure functions at large x. While a summation over the lowest even and odd parity multiplets is sufficient to achieve duality in the symmetric quark model, a suppression of transitions to specific final states is required for more realistic cases incorporating SU(6) breaking. We outline several scenarios consistent with duality, discuss their implications for the high Q^2 behavior of transition form factors, and illustrate how the…
We consider type IIA brane configurations, similar to those that realize SO(2N) supersymmetric QCD, that include orientifold planes and anti-branes. Such brane configurations lead to Sp(2N) field theories that become supersymmetric in the large-N limit and break supersymmetry upon the inclusion of 1/N corrections. We argue that this class of field theories admit Seiberg duality and interpret the potential between branes and orientifolds as field theory phenomena. In particular we find in the magnetic theory a meson potential that leads to dynamical symmetry breaking and a meson condensate simi…
We study the relationship between chiral symmetry breaking and baryons in holographic QCD. We construct a soliton with unit baryon charge in the presence of a nonzero mean value of the scalar bifundamental field, which is dual to the chiral condensate. We obtain a relation between the chiral condensate and the mass of the baryon and find in a clear-cut way that at large values of the condensate the holographic soliton is no longer located on the IR wall. Instead it is split into two halves, which are symmetrically located on the left and right flavor branes. On the other hand we find that the …
Chiral symmetry of the 2-dimensional chiral Gross-Neveu model is broken explicitly by a bare mass term as well as a splitting of scalar and pseudo-scalar coupling constants. The vacuum and light hadrons - mesons and baryons which become massless in the chiral limit - are explored analytically in leading order of the derivative expansion by means of a double sine-Gordon equation. Depending on the parameters, this model features new phenomena as compared to previously investigated 4-fermion models: spontaneous breaking of parity, a non-trivial chiral vacuum angle, twisted kink-like baryons whose…
The lightest baryon octet is studied within a covariant and confining Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. By solving the relativistic Faddeev equations including scalar and axialvector diquarks, we determine the masses and axial charges for ΔS = 0 transitions. For the latter the degree of violation of SU(3) symmetry arising because of the strange spectator quark(s) is found to be up to 10%.
A combined expansion in the number of QCD colors 1/N_c and SU(3) flavor breaking parameter epsilon has long been known to provide an excellent accounting for the mass spectrum of the lightest spin-1/2, 3/2 baryons when the quarks are taken to transform under the fundamental SU(N_c) representation, and in the final step N_c \to 3 and epsilon is set to its physical value ~0.3. Subsequent work shows that placing quarks in the two-index antisymmetric SU(N_c) representation leads to quantitatively equally successful mass relations. Recent lattice simulations allow for varying the value of epsilon a…
We investigate the strong coupling constants for the baryon octet-octet, decuplet-octet, and decuplet-decuplet vertices with pseudoscalar mesons within a general framework of the chiral quark-soliton model, taking into account the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking to linear order in the expansion of the strange current quark mass. All relevant dynamical parameters are fixed by using the experimental data on hyperon semileptonic decays and the singlet axial-vector constant of the nucleon. The results of the strong coupling constants for the baryon octet and the pseudoscalar meson octet …
Using gauge/gravity duality as a tool, we compute the strong sector, isospin breaking induced contribution to the neutron-proton mass difference in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model of large $N$ QCD with two non-degenerate light flavors. The mass difference, for which we provide an analytic expression, turns out to be positive and proportional to the down-up quark mass splitting, consistently with expectations and previous estimates based on effective QCD models. Extrapolating the model parameters to fit QCD hadronic observables, we find that the strong sector contribution to the nucleon mass sp…
The masses of baryons and heavy quark baryons are studied analytically in an expansion in 1/N, SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking and heavy-quark symmetry breaking. The measured baryon masses are in striking agreement with the 1/N hierarchy.
We study ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric $Spin(10)$ chiral gauge theories with a single spinor representation and $N$ vector representations. We present a dual description in terms of an ${\cal N}=1$ supersymmetric $SU(N-5)$ chiral gauge theory with a symmetric tensor, one fundamental and $N$ antifundamental representations. The $Spin(10)$ theory with $N=0$ breaks supersymmetry at strong coupling; we study how this arises at weak coupling in the dual theory, which is a spontaneously broken gauge theory. Also, we recover various known dualities, find new dual pairs and generate new examples of dyna…
Spin-flavor symmetry breaking in the levels of excited Baryons are studied to leading order in the 1/$N_c$ expansion. This breaking occurs at zeroth order. For non-strange Baryons with a single quark excited, it is shown that to first order of perturbation theory the breaking is given by one 1-body operator (spin-orbit), and three 2-body operators, all involving the orbital angular momentum of the excited quark. Higher-body operators can be reduced to that set of operators. As illustration, p-wave Baryons are briefly discussed.
The use, for flavor symmetries, of the quantum (or q-) analogs of unitary groups SU(n_f) yields new, very accurate, baryon mass sum rules. We show, in the 3-flavor case, that such approach accounts for nonpolynomial SU(3)-breaking effects in the octet and decuplet baryon masses. A version of this approach with manifestly q-covariant mass operator is given. The obtained new version of the q-deformed mass relation is simpler than those derived before, but, for its empirical validity, the parameter q is to be fixed by fitting. As shown, the well-known Gell-Mann--Okubo octet mass sum rule results,…
We consider charge-symmetry violations in the nucleon-nucleon force which result from isospin-violating meson-baryon coupling constants. The vector mesons are assumed to couple to the nucleon's electromagnetic current, which we decompose into isoscalar and isovector quark components. We compute these currents in the context of a constituent quark model. The isospin violations in the meson-baryon couplings arise from the difference in the up and down constituent quark masses. We show that class IV charge-symmetry-breaking potentials arise in the resulting $ω$ and $ρ$ exchange contributions to t…
The SU(3) octet states with baryon number B = 2, hexaquark dibaryons, are considered. Decay coupling constants sum rules for dibaryon octet into two ordinary baryon octets with ?$λ_8$ first order SU(3) symmetry breaking are given. An SU(4) extension of the analysis is commented upon. Possibilities for the experimental observation of multibaryon and anti-multibaryon states are pointed out.
Starting from the bound state Hamiltonian equation of motion in QCD, we derive relativistic light-front wave equations in terms of an invariant impact variable $ζ$ which measures the separation of the quark and gluonic constituents within the hadron at equal light-front time. These equations of motion in physical space-time are equivalent to the equations of motion which describe the propagation of spin-$J$ modes in anti--de Sitter (AdS) space. Its eigenvalues give the hadronic spectrum, and its eigenmodes represent the probability amplitudes of the hadronic constituents at a given scale. An e…
We investigate the axial-vector transition form factors of the baryon octet to the baryon decuplet within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model, with the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking included. We consider the rotational $1/N_c$ corrections and regard the strange current quark mass as a perturbation. We compare the present results for the $Δ\to N$ axial-vector transition with those from other models and lattice QCD. We also compute all possible axial-vector transitions from the baryon decuplet to the octet with the strangeness changed, i.e., $|ΔS|=1$. We obtain the value …
We estimate the isospin breaking contributions to the baryon masses which we analyzed recently using a loop expansion in the heavy baryon approximation to chiral effective field theory. To one loop, the isospin breaking corrections come from the effects of the $d, u$ quark mass difference, the Coulomb and magnetic moment interactions, and effective point interactions attributable to color-magnetic effects. The addition of the first meson loop corrections introduces new structure. We estimate the resulting low-energy, long-range contributions to the mass splittings by regularizing the loop inte…
Within the chiral soliton model the SU(3) breaking collective hamiltonian introduces representation mixing in the baryonic wave functions. We calculate ${\cal{O}}(m_s)$ effects of this mixing on the decay widths of decuplet and antidecuplet baryons. We find importance of the 27-plet admixture in the $Θ^+$ and $Ξ_{\bar{10}}$ decays. The role of the $1/N_c$ nonleading terms in ${\cal{O}}(m_s)$ transition matrix elements is discussed.
Present evidence on baryon axial--vector couplings is reviewed, the main emphasis being on internal consistency between asymmetry and rate data. A complete account of all {\sl small} terms in the Standard Model description of these latter leads to {\sl both} consistency {\sl and} evidence for breaking of flavour SU(3) in the axial couplings of octet baryons. Talk presented at "5th Int. Sympos. on Meson--Nucleon Physics and the Structure of the Nucleon", Boulder, CO, sept. 1993. To be published in $πN$ Newsletter.
We study the structure of QCD at very large baryon density for an arbitrary number of flavors $N_f$. We provide evidence that for any number of flavors larger than $N_f=2$ chiral symmetry remains broken at asymptotically large chemical potential. For $N_c=N_f=3$, chiral symmetry breaking follows the standard pattern $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R\to SU(3)$, but for $N_f>3$ unusual patterns emerge. We study the case $N_f=3$ in more detail and calculate the magnitude of the chiral order parameters $<\barψψ>$ and $<(\barψψ)^2>$ in perturbative QCD. We show that, asymptotically, $<\barψψ>^{1/3}$ is much s…
