In this article we provide the first examples of property (T) $\rm II_1$ factors $\mathcal N$ with trivial fundamental group, $\mathcal F (\mathcal N)=1$. Our examples arise as group factors $\mathcal N=\mathcal L(G)$ where $G$ belong to two distinct families of property (T) groups previously studied in the literature: the groups introduced by Valette in \cite{Va04} and the ones introduced recently in \cite{CDK19} using the Belegradek-Osin Rips construction from \cite{BO06}. In particular, our results provide a continuum of explicit pairwise non-isomorphic property (T) factors.

Relative Property (T) Actions and Trivial Outer Automorphism Groups

We show that every non-amenable free product of groups admits free ergodic probability measure preserving actions which have relative property (T) in the sense of S.-Popa \cite[Def. 4.1]{Pop06}. There are uncountably many such actions up to orbit equivalence and von Neumann equivalence, and they may be chosen to be conjugate to any prescribed action when restricted to the free factors. New examples of Property (T) factors with trivial fundamental group and unique prime factorization

In this paper we provide new examples of property (T) group factors with trivial fundamental group thereby providing more evidence towards Popa's conjecture on triviality of fundamental groups for property (T) group factors (page 9 \cite{Po13}; see also Problem 2, page 551 in Connes' book \cite{Co94}). Embedding universality for II$_1$ factors with property (T)

We prove that every separable tracial von Neumann algebra embeds into a II$_1$ factor with property (T) which can be taken to have trivial outer automorphism and fundamental groups. We also establish an analogous result for the trivial extension over a non-atomic probability space of every countable p.m.p. equivalence relation. Semidirect product rigidity of group von Neumann algebras arising from class $\mathscr{S}$, inductive limits and fundamental group

In this article we study property (T) groups arising from Rips construction in geometric group theory in the spirit of \cite{CDK19} and certain inductive limit groups from this class. Using interplay between Popa's deformation/rigidity and methods in geometric group theory we are able to extend the class of groups considered in \cite{CDK19} that remembers semidirect product features while passing to the group von Neumann algebras. Admissibility Conjecture and Kazhdan's Property (T) for quantum groups

We give a partial solution to a long-standing open problem in the theory of quantum groups, namely we prove that all finite-dimensional representations of a wide class of locally compact quantum groups factor through matrix quantum groups (Admissibility Conjecture for quantum group representations). II$_1$ factors and equivalence relations with distinct fundamental groups

We construct a group measure space II$_1$ factor that has two non-conjugate Cartan subalgebras. We show that the fundamental group of the II$_1$ factor is trivial, while the fundamental group of the equivalence relation associated with the second Cartan subalgebra is non-trivial. This is not absurd as the second Cartan inclusion is twisted by a 2-cocycle.

Groups with infinite FC-center have the Schmidt property

We show that every countable group with infinite FC-center has the Schmidt property, i.e., admits a free, ergodic, measure-preserving action on a standard probability space such that the full group of the associated orbit equivalence relation contains a non-trivial central sequence. Shift-minimal groups, fixed price 1, and the unique trace property

A countable group Γis called shift-minimal if every non-trivial measure preserving action of Γweakly contained in the Bernoulli shift of Γon ([0,1]^Γ,λ^Γ) is free. A new look at C*-simplicity and the unique trace property of a group

We characterize when the reduced C*-algebra of a group has unique tracial state, respectively, is simple, in terms of Dixmier-type properties of the group C*-algebra. We also give a simple proof of the recent result by Breuillard, Kalantar, Kennedy and Ozawa that the reduced C*-algebra of a group has unique tracial state if and only if the amenable radical of the group is trivial.

On compact bicrossed products

We make a comprehensive and self-contained study of compact bicrossed products arising from matched pairs of discrete groups and compact groups. We exhibit an automatic regularity property of such a matched pair and and produce an easy construction of the associated bicrossed product $\mathbb{G}$.
